I helped my parents set up a QSee set of wired cameras for their shop and was very satisfied with its installation/operation. I've wanted some wireless security cameras for the house for a while. The Arlo Pro system seemed to fit the bill. The features that attracted me to the Arlo Pro over other brands is that they can be truly wireless (run off batteries), offer a wired option for power, and two way audio. At 8.25 ounces with battery installed, these cameras are pretty lightweight. Surprisingly, the battery is rated for 4-6 months of use in battery optimized mode. Initial setup was simple enough...insert battery, plug in base station and then press a button on the base station and on the camera to pair. However, I was disappointed to learn there is only one plug and cord for powering the two cameras. So if I want to wire both cameras for constant power, I have to purchase a separate cable and plug. Luckily it's micro-USB powered at 5V and 1.8A, so most modern phone chargers should work. I tried out the two-way audio while inside the house. While the microphone on the camera picks up fairly well, the speaker is inadequate. If I'm to ward off a would-be thief with two-way audio, I want my voice to boom with authority. The built in speaker just won't cut it. I was impressed with the ease to mount the camera with the included mounts, it was then that I realized that the cameras are magnetic. The magnets are strong enough to hold the camera in the position you place it on the included hemispherical mounts. I had a little fun with the camera by sticking it on my fridge for a while. ;-) Unfortunately, the hemispherical mount didn't give me full flexibility in my application, so just a slight bit of carpentry was needed for my application. I read on some forums that these cameras throw an error below 40 degrees (F). I happened to install these (battery only mode) in 19 degree (F) weather and there were no errors overnight. The software is a little quirky. I installed it on my Android phone and auto-rotation does not work, I tried on my iPad and found the same problem. Next, in some cases when flipping between full screen mode and windowed mode, I lose camera controls. In those instances, I have to exit the app and then upon re-entering I regain camera controls. I have a 32 GB USB drive installed on the base station and cannot get it to manually write to the USB drive. I could only get it to record to USB when the system is armed with motion triggered recording. File size is pretty small at less than 1 meg per 10 seconds. The app is also slow to provide a Live View. Even on a decently fast wireless network, it takes several seconds to load. Most disappointingly, I wanted the system armed overnight and because it was lightly snowing, I kept getting notifications/emails that motion was detected. I don't see a way to reduce sensitivity. The included modes are what you would expect. Armed (On), Disarmed (Off), Scheduled (On/Off per schedule you set), and at the time of this review, a beta of Geofencing (auto-On when your phone leaves the vicinity), but it is limited to 1 phone, so with a family of 5, it's not worth setting up. These cameras capture at 1280x720 pixels. The pictures are decently sharp for most applications. Night vision is fairly sharp too. But at that resolution, your subject needs to be less than 10 feet away from the camera to get good facial definition. I had 2 inch tall text on a wall 10 feet away and it was illegible. The zoom feature is worthless as everything gets too pixelated to help with anything. I'm also a little put off with the subscription system. Currently with my free plan, I'm limited to 5 connected cameras. If I want more, I need to pay a monthly plan $10/month for up to 10 connected cameras. It then goes up from there to $50/month for up to 40 connected cameras and longer online storage duration. I will probably buy a couple more cameras to get decent coverage of my house, the cameras themselves are a pretty good price for outdoor cameras. But with all the quirks, I can only give this system 3 Stars.

Only installed two weeks one camera stopped work. Only can record one camera's action at one time, other five cameras actions can not be recorded at same time. The batteries goes quick, always need charges. The price is too high.

I got the Arlo Pro, What i like = easy to use, i can tweak the settings in many ways, pic quality is excellent and very reliable once you get it tuned to your needs. Cons: battery life i about 4 to 5 weeks max, the more activity that sees and records the faster the batt goes down, Price was steep buy i guess is the quality. price of batt and accessories are not cheap either. Overall I am very happy with the product, do suggest having a good router- internet provider and a good phone cell service to get the best performance

Set up was easy although I did have to quit the app twice for the firmware to update. Inside the cameras have lasted in excess of 4 weeks with moderate usage. My outside camera lasted a little over a week so when placing it, remember that. The system is flexible and you can control motion sensing and record time. The picture quality is great. The app allows control over the system and features. I have been playing with the microphone feature and to date have not been able to get it to work consistently and an audible level above a whisper. I have read Android devices and laptops are better at accomplishing this. Although there are a few drawbacks this wireless camera system is works the price tag.

Battery Life is Dismal not as advertised, maybe two weeks at best with lowest settings. Connection to device is poor, sometimes impossible. Support is horrible. I would not recommend this product, selling them on Ebay... Going to try Blink

It didn't work the way it is described. It does not continually record like the Nest, and when it did record it would only record a third of the motion or sound detected. For example, I walked straight towards it making a bunch of noise....and nothing. No notification or recording.

I had big expectations for this product but was let down. The 2way audio feature did not work. I could hear them but they could not hear me. The feed was choppy when testing even right next to the Wi-Fi. I ended up returning it for something else.

Worked Great for First-Time Security Camera User!

This was my first venture into the world of wifi security cameras, and the Arlo Pro made that process very simple, user-friendly, and painless. Set-up for these is very simple and consist of pretty much inserting batteries, synching cameras with the base (in a blue tooth type fashion), and downloading the phone app for ease of use. It took me all of 15-20 minutes to go from unboxing the equipment to viewing my live camera feeds right on my cell phone via the app (which is also extremely user-friendly, by the way!). The system comes with digital cloud service included, so I was able to literally start using the system right away. I did not test the alarm, as there was a warning that it is so loud it could cause permanent damage if standing too close to it. All other features have worked as stated, with my favorite being that you can control everything from within the phone app, including on-demand digital recording & recording review. They could not have made this system simpler to install and use, especially for people like me who have not physically "mounted" the cameras but instead placed them in strategic locations as-is. I cannot speak to how this stacks up to other systems on the market, but as a first-time user, this felt great to use and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting the benefits of an easy-to-use security system that can literally be monitored anywhere with cell phone/internet access. Im giving it 4 stars to account for my lack of experience with other systems of this type.

    Night vision

Easy setup; very good video/audio; great with Orbi

Using two base stations and 5 pro cameras in total in order to cover both the front, rear and sides of the house. One base station is connected to a Netgear Orbi router and the other base station to the Orbi satellite. Cameras and base stations were easy to sync (instructions in the app are clear). Placement is important in order to make sure that you can capture motion when needed. Initially had one camera positioned too close to a light gray painted roof overhang (was in a very nearfield view to the camera). With night vision, the light gray paint of the overhang was too bright (almost like a light) and reflected back at the camera causing too high a contrast. Adjusting the contrast control in the app did not really make view any better. Batteries are still near full charge after a week. Netgear claims 3 to 4 months before re-charge is needed in their literature. We'll see. The "grant access" function is also nice so you can give access to another family member to either all or specific cameras and with full access or just view access. Also, apparently you can run the pro camera with it's AC adapter, but you probably have to use a 3rd party weatherproof cord to run into the inside of the house or into an outside outlet with a weatherproof cover since the AC adapter itself is not designed for outdoors (not weatherproof). The Basic subscription allows for up to 5 devices on one account with 7 days of cloud recording for no charge. Have not tried connecting an external drive to the base stations yet for local recording. Wish the pro camera was 1080p instead of 720p, but overall right now, the Arlo Pro seems to work really well.
