Prior to getting this item, I did some research, so I already had a mindset of the product not living up to expectations. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised that the item exceeded my expectations. The big knock was on battery life, which to be honest, wasn't really as bad as stated with previous products. I originally chose to install one camera in the front and back of my house. However, after about a week, I moved the front camera indoors, providing additional coverage inside of my home. This was a compliment to the security system I'd already had installed. Installation was a breeze. Picture quality was better than expected. This would be a nice addition to any home security system, or, even as a first line of defense. Fortunately, we don't have a lot of foot traffic near our home, but I'm certain in a time of crisis, these cameras will serve their purpose admirably.

I was excited about this product before testing it. I have three canary cameras and would like to have a similar cloud product for outside camera positions. I do have experience with fixed wired outside units and a dvr. It can be very expensive to have outdoor surveillance camera installed in your home or business. One must handle the power, network and mounting issues. This system is wireless, has a decent battery life and is easy to mount due to their size and a nicely designed magnet mount. The camera immediately uploads 10 second or so video streams to the cloud and one can view, download or share these streams easily via the app or a browser interface. One of the two cameras that came that came with the system would not sync to the base unit. After 20 minutes of troubleshooting, a 15 minute wait on hold and a 10 minute call it was determined by Netgear tech support that the case needed to be elevated to the next level of support. Later that day I received an email suggesting an RMA with options include me shipping the camera and waiting, a swap (they ship camera in a week or so and I ship mine back anytime (cost) or an expedited ship (extra cost). All three of these options are unacceptable to someone who just bought an expensive system and wasted a hour getting it to not work. Netgear needs to realize that when they charge more for a products (Arlo pro or high end router) a higher level of service is expected. They do not need to become Apple but this is not a $79 router purchase. The single working camera seems to have a good battery life and takes OK clips. As usual with outdoor cameras, one must be mindful of the position of the sun and night lighting as you can easily have issues with contrast or false alarms. I did not ideally position the camera but did it place by two different entrances and let it run for a couple of days. The video quality and motion activation were both disappointing especially compared with my wired sony units. One time the motion detectioin missed first part of the approach of someone to the door and another time there were artifacts in the video (blocks and stuttering) both of which obscured the face of the potential intruders. Perhaps with firmware upgrades, perfect positioning and ideal wireless conditions these camera could be serious security cameras but I was quite disappointed in the product.

Got these about a month ago but couldn't put them up until Wis. winter was over. Initial set up was a challenge. I will say I got thru to Netgear/Arlo support and the pleasant person on the phone was with me for over an hour and was quite patient as I could not get Arlo to accept my email address to set up my account. We installed and uninstalled the app several times and it finally worked. Once we got the account set up everything went smoothly and he stayed on the phone while the base station and cameras went thru firmware updates. Once that was done everything was great. I have had the cameras up for over 2 weeks now and all batteries are still over 90% charged. Picture is crisp and clear and very sensitive. We never realized our yard was a path for local deer to cross thru. Have not been able to get the camera view thru my Lenovo Google display yet but I have not tried really hard. Microphones are very sensitive to noises. 2 way audio is not very loud and I don't think I would be able to scare someone away. Cloud storage is great and app. is very user friendly. Would have given 5 stars except for the difficulty with initial set up which the support person told me happens at times. Overall very satisfied with operation and quality. Also bought 3 pack of Wasserstein outdoor mounts which work very well for mounting the cameras outside as I did not use the magnetic mounts as I was nervous about theft. Would recommend

The Good, the bad and the UGLY

I both love and hate my Arlo Pro system. The Good: Super easy to install and the battery life on the cameras is amazingly long between charges. The system does a good job of alerting activity (except with GeoFencing). The Bad: The video quality for both the 720p and 1080p cameras isn't good enough to capture license plate numbers or clear face detail. I think the cameras need optical zoom rather than digital zoom to get better resolution. If running the cameras off of batteries there tends to be motion detection lag so one can miss whatever triggered the camera. This can be solved by running hard wire and having the camera on continuously with the 30 second look back option. The UGLY: One of the best and worst features with Arlo is GeoFencing. When it works its great, but on many occasions the software team at Arlo mess it up and it literally can takes months before it works properly again. As of this writing Geofencing only works for a primary phone or device so the family can't have GeoFencing start and stop the system based on the phones coming and going. I'm shocked that there hasn't been a class-action against Arlo related to the repeated failures and misrepresentation of the system functionality related to GeoFencing. Check it out on the Arlo forums. If Geofencing is important to you then DON'T buy Arlo.

I'm no stranger to security cameras, as I have no less than 4 wired around the house. The Arlo pro setup is an interesting product. While my experience is generally more traditional security cameras, these are an interesting idea. Fully wireless cameras seems too good to be true, but in essence they are more motion detectors that can send video for my usage. What's really cool about these cameras is the app-enabled experience allows you to view video, audio, and even talk back to people on the other end. There's a decent delay, but you can make it work. The app itself can use touch id to protect your cameras if you lose you phone or lend it to someone. You can set schedules and watch for both motion and audio threshold. I use the motion threshold and it does a decent job of capturing video and reporting the motion detection. The magnetic mounts are convenient, but I'd be concerned mounting it outside it would be a theft or vandalism target. I hide mine under an overhang inside a porch to catch notifications of package deliveries or potential pranksters. I've relatively technical, so when I say I've had problems with one of my cameras, its not for lack of trying to fix it. One of my cameras appears to disconnect all the time. Also it tends to stay off. While the batteries come 'fully charged' I don't believe it, as one camera wouldn't stay on more than a few seconds. I charged them up, but even after firmware upgrades, one of the cameras just keeps disconnecting. It'll stay connected for a few days, then lose connection and I have to deal with it. I feel like it may just be a bad battery or camera, but for the price you'd expect better reliability. The cloud storage that comes 'free' is helpful. Its not like you are recording round the clock like wired on premise cameras. These cameras are meant to be accessed anywhere and allow you to view recordings anywhere. That's why they're best suited to security roles. While I trust a netgear more than other no-name brands of cameras, I still have an inherit distrust of 'cloud connected' cameras that will probably follow me for a long time. I really do like many of the features. The hardware is good when it works, but I've had a few reliability issues I haven't even had time to really resolve. I like it when a product just works - one of my cameras does just that, I just wish both would. I was really excited about this product, but honestly it's just 'ok'. I love the wireless concept, but I really the reliability and maturity of wired makes me feel good about pulling all that cat 5 cable. I realize that's not an effort everyone can or will make, so I'd consider these cameras seriously for certain use cases.

he picture quality is spectacular. The Wireless installation was a must. I didn't want to have wiring all over the place. You can view all your cameras easily through the Arlo app. You can also use your Apple TV Arlo app to view it on your TV. On the Arlo app it also allows you to zoom in and out. Installation was easy (Although I only supervised due to a fractured foot). There is a sensitivity level you can select so not to pick up every car that drives by. Anytime something or someone comes within the view of the camera it will alert you. You can setup how you would like to be alerted. Finally come with a charging battery, and it last for 6 months. It has audio, and alarm. You can activated or turn if off. You must get it.
