I read a lot of the reviews before purchasing to decide if this was the system for me. If you are looking for a constant recording system or going to place them in an area that has a high amount of traffic then this may not be the system for you. One of my batteries is still strong after 2 months however I have had to recharge the others. Eventually I will run power to the most active camera. What you read is correct about the audio on the system to a point. Things seem to be louder and closer when listening through the cameras. There was a party down the road and it sounded like it was in my front yard. I walked outside and could barely hear them. If you use a cell phone and try to talk through the camera to someone it is very faint, however if I talk through my computer it is very loud. What the directions states is correct. If at all possible do not place your camera where you are wanting to catch someone walking straight to the camera or straight away from the camera. I'm not sure what the distance is for detecting movement, I read that it is 15 to 20 feet. However I had to move the view on my driveway camera because it was recording every car that went down the road. My drive way is 55 feet long. Lag time. Everyone is correct on this. What you see on the live feed is about 1 to 2 seconds behind what is actually happening. Setup. Very easy as long as you pay attention to the directions and read them well. Yes they are easy to understand but as a man I glanced at them and thought "this links in the same as other things do" wrong. Once I read the directions slowly it was a breeze. In the beginning I had issues with the cameras loosing connections or the base station loosing connection. The cameras going off all the time with nothing around and driving me crazy on my phone. But after a couple of weeks everything straightened out In closing. If you have a lot of activity you will be recharging your batteries often. If you set the record time to a minute or more you will use the battery pretty quick. And the thing that amazed me the most is I never realized how many stray cats or dogs roam my front driveway at night time. One night I had 5 dogs playing in my driveway. If you have it set to send you email notification, get ready because you could be getting a lot of them. If you set it to send notification to your phone, you will be getting a lot of them. Thinking every time someone is trying to rob you. I have one that a bird likes to fly in front of and set it off. Read as many of the reviews as possible and decide if this is the system for you because almost everyone states the same thing. If you purchase the warranty from Best Buy it only covers if the cameras or units stop working from natural causes. Meaning if you drop it and break it, it's not covered under the warranty. Oh, The video to me is great during the day and night time. Happy shopping.

I'm a single parent and homeowner so having good security at my house is very important. I started looking into security cameras over a year ago and never could commit because of the hard wiring part of it and I did not want to pay someone to install them. After reading other reviews about the Arlo HD Camera's with two way audio, I decided to buy the set. To my surprise, I had the camera's up and working in under an hour with no extra help! They are so easy to mount and easy to move if needed! I work from home and was concerned I would need to upgrade my internet speeds but that has not been the case. I live in large ranch brick house and I have had no problems with the signal getting to the cameras at each end of the house. I can access the cameras on my PC in my office and also on the Arlo App on my iphone. All of it is very user friendly and I would highly recommend these cameras!

Not bad for the package. The motion detection is nice to have. It sends an alert when the camera detects motion or sound. Not having to run wires is also nice. You can't have the cameras to far from the base cuz the base won't detect the camera. The battery life on my set is pretty good.

I like the system a lot. It takes a bit of time to get it figured out and I had some initial connectivity issues with the individual cameras. Once I got that figured out it was pretty smooth. I tried turning on the siren/alarm function using the phone app. It got stuck on and I had to close and re open the app to turn it off? I haven't tried it again. Other than that, the picture is clear, the range and view are good. They allow you to zoom and adjust brightness remotely....The sound is clear. I am very pleased with this product and use it daily to keep an eye on the house and the pets.

I purchased the first Arlo system when it came out in 2014. It was a major upgrade from Netgear’s previous Vuezone system (which I also had) due to the HD cameras. This new Pro system is much like the original but with some very nice upgrades. I love the rechargeable battery feature and not having to buy new batteries every few months. The two-way audio is another new feature that will come in handy along with the “smart siren”. The siren is actually located on the base station and not the cameras. It can be triggered manually by using the app or via motion detection. The siren is very loud (100 decibels), however since my router, and therefore, the basestation are both located in my basement, I am not sure how effective the alarm will be should the need arise. But I know it scared the heck out of my dogs when I was testing it so I hope it does the same for any would-be intruder. Free cloud storage is also a great bonus. With the Basic account you get 7 days of video up to 1 gigabyte recorded to the cloud which is more than ample for me since I monitor what’s going on constantly. Setup was very easy and since I already had an account I simply needed to add the new base station, sync the cameras, and everything was up and running. Took maybe 20 minutes. The feature I like best about this system is how much internet bandwidth it requires to operate. The cameras only use internet bandwidth when they sense motion and begin recording or when I turn them on to view the cameras remotely. Since our property is located in the mountains we only have access to satellite internet and our monthly bandwidth allowance is a mere 10 gigabytes per month. Before I got the Arlo system I considered the Dropcam/Nest cam but I discovered that their cameras stream constantly. According to the Nest website, the average monthly upload bandwidth usage of one Nest cam set at 1080p resolution is a whopping 140 gigabytes. Therefore, just one Nest cam would eat through all of our monthly bandwidth allowance in about 2 days rendering the cameras useless. Conversely, the Arlo cameras only begin recording based on the motion settings I’ve established or when I want to view remotely so they do not stream 100% of the time like the Nest cams do. According to Netgear’s website, an Arlo camera set on “Best Video” consumes about 700-750 kilobits per second, so each 10 seconds of recorded video takes up only about 1 megabyte of bandwidth. For this reason alone, this is the best system I’ve found to work in conjunction with our satellite internet service. But with all the features this system gives you, the ability to customize camera schedules individually, and the outstanding video and pictures the cameras produce, this is a fantastic security system for the money.

High Quality Night Vision & Solid Durability

I’ve owned another brand’s similarly priced, HD, webcam-style security system for about 3 years now. I am satisfied with my current system, but I wanted to get this new Netgear Arlo Pro to compare. After spending several weeks with the Arlo Pro I can truthfully say the only advantage my current system has over the Arlo Pro is the convenience of not having to charge the camera battery. Of course, my current system’s cameras have no batteries and must be plugged into AC outlets. I spent about a month reviewing the Arlo Pro using an Android phone, iPad Pro, and laptop and desktop PCs. Here’s a little of what I found out: VERY HIGH QUALITY HD NIGHT VISION: The Arlo Pro camera has night vision clarity way beyond that of any other HD night vision camera that I’ve seen to date. Even when zoomed in nothing is lost. That’s my litmus test. Daylight vision is easy, high quality night vision is much harder to achieve. PORTABILITY: Once the Arlo system is setup and its cameras are wirelessly connected to the base station, you have complete freedom of portability to move them in and around your home without regard to the availability of an AC power outlet. I love that advantage! Put them anywhere you want until you find out where you want them permanently. Or keep them completely portable. Your choice. BATTERY CHARGING: That portability comes at a price and that price is the minor inconvenience of battery recharging. I found that the length of time a camera’s battery charge will last depends on how frequently motion detection events occur. A camera placed in a high traffic area will need to be recharged more frequently than one placed in a low traffic area. Motion detection events equal battery consumption. Netgear sends you an automated courtesy email to alert you when a camera battery drops to 15% charge. I found that eerie, but helpful. The camera battery is not difficult to recharge. You just pick up the camera and take it to wherever you have the Netgear AC power adapter located and plug the mini-USB connector into the camera case. The battery completely recharges in a couple of hours and it doesn’t even need to be removed from the camera. In fact, once I installed the proprietary battery cube inside each camera I’ve never had a reason to open them again. You must use the proprietary Netgear AC power adapter because the battery will not recharge if you use a generic USB power block or PC. Yes, it will plug in, but no it won’t recharge. The instructions state that, but I had to try it anyway. SOLID DURABILITY: I didn’t mean to, but I accidentally dropped a brand new Arlo Pro camera from about four feet onto a concrete basement floor. Pieces went everywhere and I was pretty sure my new two camera system just became a one camera system. The pieces ended up being just three--the silver magnetic mount, the battery cube, and the camera. Nothing appeared broken so I put the battery back in and the camera popped back to life as if nothing had happened at all. Amazing! MY TWO FAVORITE FEATURES: There are so many bells and whistles on this system that I couldn’t possibly write about them all. My favorite is when reviewing a stored video you can click once on the Download button and the video is instantly stored on whatever device you’re using. Second, I think it’s pretty cool that you can email someone a temporary link to view a video. The link is only good for 24 hours and requires no login to view it. Very simple. A PROBLEM: When a USB drive is connected to the base station for Local Storage, the Arlo Pro system will store the video files both in the Cloud and on the Local Storage USB drive. However, only the Cloud videos can be viewed in the Arlo software Library. The USB drive must be moved and connected to a computer with a USB port in order to view its videos. It would be helpful if the Local Storage videos could be viewed through the Arlo software just like the Cloud videos. However, I found out that reviewing Local Storage videos on a PC is very quick compared to reviewing videos in the Arlo software Cloud library (which is not slow either). Also, the Arlo User Manual tells you that even if the Internet is down, motion event videos will still be recorded to Local Storage. RECOMMEND THE ARLO PRO?: Absolutely! The extremely good night vision and solid durability sold me.

Looking at this, I feel like I'm looking at the future! Wireless cameras, and I can view them from anywhere? Amazing. And it works great. There's good and not-so-good, but you can decide how it'll fit your needs. The not-do-good stuff: First, I was so eager to get these out of the package! It's presented beautifully, but it took me at least 10 minutes to unbox it. I'm really good at mechanical things, but this packaging was extremely challenging. I'm in Minnesota. I put one camera outside for a view of my backyard. The camera lived for about an hour then it stopped working. To be fair, it was -2 degrees F last night. When I rescued the camera 3 hours later, it was able to come back up but the battery was down to 73%. When they say "all weather," they don't mean sustained sub-freezing temperatures. The base requires a wired internet connection. That could be limiting for some people. The speaker on the camera isn't very effective; very low volume and poor audio quality, so you can't use this to shout at intruders. If you really like to maximize your equipment and dig into advanced features, you really have to dig to get information about expansion, external storage, troubleshooting, etc. How does external storage work? Does it backup locally instead of the cloud? Both? I guess I'll find out after the 7 day cloud retention period. A quibble -- the configuration site lists the external memory as "SD," so I wasted a few minutes looking for an SD slot. The good stuff -- once I got it out of the package, it was super easy to set up. The batteries were fully-charged and I had no problem synching to the base. The instructions were very simple and covered basic setup. The mounting base was really easy to use, and it's a cool feature. However, it gives your camera zero security. Someone can simply snatch it. Once I got it set up and the interior camera placed, I received alerts so I could watch my dogs barking at delivery people. I'm looking forward to be able to spy on them throughout the day! Placement is going to be key. Think about where you would want the cameras. Overall, I really like this, but it is a bit limited for my uses.

note: after my own extensive troubleshooting, it turns out one of my cameras had a hardware defect. i essentially deducted 1 star from my review because of the difficulty getting through to tech support (1 hour + expected wait time on several occasions.) once i got through to them, the RMA process was relatively painless, though they did ask me to perform the same troubleshooting steps over the phone before they would authorize a replacement camera. the review below assumes a properly functioning camera, as the second one in my set was. pros: 1. easy setup - mobile app or browser based 2. stable connection - once in place, i saw little to no outages in my testing 3. good picture quality (normal light and night vision) - also configurable for best quality (more battery drain), longer battery life (sacrificing a bit of picture quality), or half way between. 4. wireless placement - once charged, fully wireless with magnetic wall mounts included 5. accessible via mobile app or browser 6. alerts via mobile app alert or email - configurable based on pre-installed or custom settings and schedule 7. 7 days cloud recording free (upgrades available) or local storage options via USB thumb drive. cons: 1. tech support can take some time to reach, should you need help. reasonably efficient RMA process once you do get to them. one item of note, though they are replacing the camera free of charge, the customer is responsible for shipping to get to the RMA center. in my case this amounted to under $5 for ground, but interesting none the less. a prepaid return label would be nice. overall: good camera system, assuming no hardware issues out of box. range from base station seems to be good (2.4GHz). certainly best used for intermittent checking and alert based recording, as opposed to real time monitoring over long periods of time. battery life is rated at 6 months + using alert recording, though in real world usage this number would likely be lower. real time monitoring will lower it significantly. either way, still a very good wireless security camera system in my opinion.

    Constant issues with charging batteries

I love the simplicity of the camera system, from set up to viewing videos. I have them set up outside and it detects motion as advertised when someone comes up to my house. The problem I have with the Arlo is the batteries. Best Buy geek squad only supports a full system replacement and I am now on my second system that the batteries stopped charging. Reading online reviews this is a common problem. I don't pay for the Arlo support so I don't have that option. Best Buy won't replace the batteries or the charging cable only so I have no idea what the real problem is. The way the charging input is shaped makes the Arlo supplied cable the only one I have found that works. I have not had the cameras for a year yet, and have 2 returns.

Let me start off my declaring that I received the Arlo 2 camera security pack for free as part of the Best Buy Tech Insider program in exchange for my honest review. I have had the chance to use most of the features of the Arlo pro over the past week and I have been very happy with it so far. In fact, I am probably going to purchase 2 more cameras after the new year to cover additional areas around my home. The Arlo Pro cameras are completely wireless, although the Arlo base station has to be connected to your router with an ethernet cable, so make sure you have an open connection. This model has rechargeable batteries that are supposed to last a full year, I guess time will tell. My house is 2300 square feet plus a full basement and and upstairs bonus room where the router and base station are located. I have not found an area inside or around the perimeter of my house that I did not have a strong connection between the base and the cameras so I believe the range is very good. The cameras trigger with motion and sound (or either) if you have the system armed. My cameras trigger with motion inside of 30 feet, so they will cover a large area. The system allows 2 way communication. Some have said that the camera speaker volume is too low, but mine seem to be very useable. I don't think the volume is too low to be able to use this feature. I have talked to my kids through this system and they think its great. The app does require you to initiate the mic to talk, then turn it back off to listen, then reinitiate it again to speak. this is a little annoying, and takes extra time, but its not too bad. Picture quality is good from a 720p camera. They do have night vision. The cameras come with a magnetic wall mount that is very strong, but I would suggest using the optional screw in mounts that attach to the back of the camera. I am using the magnetic ones and haven't had issues, but I just have trouble relying on magnets. One of the best features of this system is the FREE 7 day rolling online recording that is included with the system. The paperwork says that this will always be free. There is a limit of 1 gig of storage space, so if you leave your cameras active all the time, I doubt you will have 7 full days. I activate my cameras when we leave the house and deactivate them before entering. I also turn on the cameras to monitor what is happening in the house when I am away. The system works well. the features are good and so far it has been very reliable. In my opinion, it is worth the investment, especially if you have young children at home, as I do, and want to check in at times to see how things are going.

I travel often for work so I liked the idea of keeping an eye on my new house when I'm away. I hoped that Arlo Pro would provide a sense of security and peace of mind. Funny I honestly expected a laborious setup process. Wow was I wrong. Unpacking all the boxes within boxes within boxes took far more time than the actual system setup. Simply download the app, connect the camera base station to your network, sign up for an account, synch your cams and you're up and running. The app walks you through every step. Netgear truly deserves praise for making this process so very simple that anyone could do it. It took maybe 10 minutes. Next I moved onto playing with the settings within the app. First I wanted to setup geofencing so the system will automatically arm when I leave my house and disarm upon arriving home. What a breeze. I then wanted to add another family member so I granted them access to my Arlo system and turned on geofencing for them as well. So easy. The settings menu is quite detailed and very intuitive. I'd have to say the most difficult part of the setup was deciding camera placement. I was disappointed by the fact that the Arlo cams only came with the magnetic mount and does not include the adjustable screw mounts. You would think Netgear would include at least one. I didn't feel the magnetic mount was practical for outdoor use so I purchased two of the more secure screw mounts. I installed one camera at each entrance to my home. I haven't experienced any issues with use so far. Video quality is ok but I do wish Netgear had opted for 1080p. I suppose 720p conserves bandwidth but the video quality seems lacking. I love the ability to check in on a live view of your cams. This comes in handy just to check on things. When away I sometimes like using it just to check the weather at home. The two way audio is another great feature. I've only played around with it but can imagine how it would come in handy to communicate to anyone approaching the house. There is a lag when communicating but sound quality is good. I've noticed some people have complained about the volume but it seems loud enough to me. The night vision capability is also very good. It's been interesting to see the neighborhood pets visiting throughout the night. Battery life seems great and love that these cams are rechargeable. Overall I must say Netgear has developed a fantastic wireless security camera system that has certainly provided me an additional sense of security.

I did alot of research before buying. After purchasing and using for a week the system is great. Awesome picture and motion detection works great after you set it up. Very easy set up and install. I would recommend getting the better outdoor mounts. The ones that come with system are not very effective. Overall I would highly recommend.
