More like a toy. Not a serious security system.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Arlo Pro 6 months ago. I'm regretting my purchase. The Arlo goes offline quite frequently. This would be understandable if the Arlo was connected wirelessly. But the fact that the Arlo requires a wired ethernet connection directly to you router and STILL manages to lose Internet connection is unacceptable. The few times I have been out of town, the arlo became disconnected from the Internet even though I could remotely log into my home network (ie. Intenet was fine). I had to go home just to restart the Arlo, and no footage was recorded that weekend. I am out of town now and the arlo.netgear.com site is reporting that it cannot connect. In addition, motion detection camera recording is short and sporadic. Hope you can catch the burglers face when it cuts off after 10 seconds while he's still in motion! This is NOT a serious security system. I use it now just to watch my dog at home, not for security. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Go with an actual security service, not a company that sells mediocre routers.

EXCELLENT SYSTEM
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We were looking at another security system, but the associate showed us this system and boy are we glad we were shown this system. We had been having construction materials come up missing (stolen) but did not know who the culprit was. When we added this system within days we had another attempted theft, this time we were prepared. My phone alerted us that some motion had been detected on one of the cameras. We actually were able to see the guy attempt to get into the house when we sound the alarm and then called the police. The police had the suspects picture and knew exactly who it was by the tattoos on his face and was soon arrested. This system has already paid for itself with instant notification and peace of mind. You will not be disappointed in this system.

Too much lag
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture quality is very good. The magnet connector is very strong and camera sits sturdy/wind resistant. Wide range programmable camera view is good. Free recording is a big plus. However, the LAG in recording and two-way communication is TERRIBLE. When I receive packages from UPS, the camera has a 3-5 second lag before it records; I'm lucky to see the back of the person delivering the package and in some cases I don't see the person at all. A thief could run and snatch a package from my porch before recording begins. There is also a 3-5 second delay when I speak to the person at my door. I can hear them instantly, but not the other way around. One plus is I was able to purchase a usb/dc cable connector for the camera, where I can plug the outdoor camera into an outlet inside my house freeing me from having to climb a ladder to change batteries in the camera (check out Wasserstein Weatherproof 16ft/5m Cable Compatible With Arlo Pro & Arlo Pro 2, (on Amazon) - works great. I replaced an older analog wired camera with this Arlo camera and used the existing hole driven through my exterior and interior wall for wire-thru connection). I only purchased the one camera for outdoor use at my front door; I won't buy another camera until Arlo fixes this 'lag' issue.

Was not impressed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So i was really hoping to be happy with this product due to all the good reviews I've seen on here I did not want to run wire. But clearly none of you have seen what a real security surveillance system should look like. There are some cool things it can do like you can talk threw it set alarm off. But still surveillance is garbage at night even worse. the motion sensor continues to go off at night literally for no reason . Yes I moved them everywhere to try to fix it from being tripped. Literally the rain would set the motion off at night. I returned this product asap it's worthless and pointless it's not reliable. If you had a covered porch and that's all you needed to cover and didn't want to run wires then I guess it would be better then nothing. I bite the bullet and just ran wire to hard line surveillance system to get a 24/7 recording and notification when motion detected way more happier now I can actually see what's going and would be able to get face recognition and if something happened and the motion for some reason did not get tripped it still would be recording. That Arlo is such trash it only records when motion is detected and it says it will detect motion with in 25 feet more like 20 and all you get is a short video or how ever long you put the record time for when it's tripped and the top record time is not long. If your lazy and want a half of a system buy it. If you want something good that's reliable don't buy wireless. Best Buy is awesome with customer service and return policy but there not where you want to buy a surveillance system from. There selection is not good go to the main source. But you can not beat Best Buy's instore returns and curtesy.

Too much Lag time. Critical flaw. returned.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The title says it all. Nice design, easy set up. OK video quality for wireless. Easy cell phone alert and app. There is a 2-5 second delay when detecting motion and recording begins. Cars drive slowly by my house and all I see is a brief flash at the end of the recording. I have one on my porch, which is approx 40' from my front gate. If someone opens and closes the gate, walks up the sidewalk, all that is captured is a shoulder as they pass the activating camera. Looking online, this is a major flaw shared by many others. For my needs this system is useless. If there was no delay, or even a shorter delay, it would be a 5 star product. Returned and looking at wired systems.

Best out there
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did a lot of research on wireless security cameras and loved Arlo. After running it for just about a month I can say I'm as happy as they day I purchased. Great app, great video quality (even in 720p).

Beware of monthly subscription
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo system is great. What Used to be the best part was that it was free after you purchased the cameras. Video history was available for 30 days, When I upgraded and purchased the doorbell, the free ride was over. I now have to pay $12 per month to get what i had before for free. The only company i know that penalizes you for buying more units.

Not Good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bestbuy offers a 15day trial period to install and examine this product within which timeframe it can be returned for full refund. I experienced a lot of difficulty using it outdoors...1st the nighttime resolution is not good...2nd this camera was consistently a problem..notices that the camera was not connected to its base or was not connected to the internet, many instances where no pictures when captured when crossing at a distance of more than about 40 feet from the camera. If it is located outdoors and resetting is required..one must move the camera and take it within 3 feet of the base to reset. Not good...but then I was not sure what to do to fix the problems. Many of the problems were also found in the community resource where fixes were tried by other owners. The major problem was Arlo Pro does not provide a live human to speak to help resolve issues or clarify problems . Many of the problems that I observed were not corrected by taking recommended action to fix the problem. This product was excellent if you want to see an object in real/live time. But it is very inconsistent in outdoor recording motion such as a walking person more than 30 feet from the camera. In my view the 15 day trial period is simple not enough to fix the many problems I experienced....so I am returning it.

Does Not Last
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first, the Arlo cameras were great! Easy installation, wireless, and user friendly. However, they barely lasted a year! The cameras would drain the batteries in less than a week (we tried every brand out there to no avail). Then, the infamous message "This Arlo device is offline. Please make sure it is connected to the Internet. Visit support.Arlo.com for help." The minute that message comes up, kiss your battery life good-bye. That would happen with a strong Internet connection. When researching this issue, it became apparent that this issue was happening to several individuals. Calling their support line is a total waste of time. Completely disappointed with this product! Terrible waste of money!

Having Many Problems
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this 4-camera system 4 days ago. This is how I have spent the last 3 days: I installed the iOS app, connected and powered up the base station and prepared to sync the first camera. I immediately got a prompt to download firmware updates for both camera and base station. The first camera kept "rejecting" the update and it took 5-6 tries to complete it. I proceeded to set up the cameras. Camera #1: The camera sync'd successfully and everything seemed to function. It sensed motion and recorded video. I could do one live view. If I attempted a second live view, the camera disconnected from the base. To fix this it is necessary to delete the camera from the system and re-sync. I repeated this two more times, but each time, if I attempted a second live view, the camera would disconnect from the base. It is now sitting in the box waiting to be replaced. This is the camera that kept rejecting the updates. Camera #2: I had no further problems updating firmware and setting up the remaining three cameras. Camera #2 was installed to view the driveway and is about 30 feet from the base. It has functioned perfectly since it was installed. Camera #3: This camera was installed in the breezeway between the house and garage about 25 feet from the base. After an hour it went offline. I repositioned it putting it about 16 feet from the base and re-sync'd. It functioned well for several hours. The next morning, I found the camera offline again. I am guessing that it occasionally disconnects when motion is detected. This is the state it is in at the moment, non-functional. Camera #4: This camera was installed on the front patio about 40 feet from the base and functioned perfectly at first. The next day something odd started happening. If camera #4 sensed motion, camera #2 recorded video. In other words, if motion was sensed on the patio, I got video of the driveway. This points to a malfunctioning base station which may explain all the problems I am having. Arlo Mobile App: The iOS version is unstable. About 3 times out of 4, the section of the screen where the email notification setting is located is blank. The PC web link in Chrome is more reliable. Technical Support: The Netgear technical support is a mess with multiple access points. They use a scatter-gun system of chats, phone calls, email support, FAQ's, user forums and technical articles. The result is a confused and unfriendly system. They have several web links for support. In one of them when I typed "arlo pro" in the search box, the result was "no such product found." I found a link to a technical article about email notifications. When I clicked it, the response was "file not found." The user forum is typical with a lot of babbling that fails to address the question asked. I finally found an email support link and provided them detailed information about the problems I was having. The responses, so far, have been boiler plate answers implying no one read the information I provided. They have an awkward threading system for support questions that makes it difficult fo have a discussion. This is where things are at the moment. I am giving them one star for the one camera that is functional. I am intrigued by this system and really want it to work. I will happily update this review and add stars if the problems can be worked out.

Hardware-Very Good; Software/Manual Needs Work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the system for about a month. Setup was straightforward once you understood that you need to put in your new password to set up a new account. This is obvious of course but the way it's presented is very confusing. The problem is their instruction manual. It reminded me of the old wisecrack about a bikini, 'what you see is important but what's hidden is crucial'. One camera was way to sensitive with many many false positives Another refused to detect motion at all. As far as I could tell there was no way to adjust it. Well there is but it's quite hidden. You need to go to Custom Mode (give it a name) and set up all you cameras to use it. The new section for each camera has an easily adjustable sensitivity mode. Problem solved. I needed a tech to walk me thru this...it should have been clear how to do this from the manual. It certainly was NOT. A few other points: I found the resolution of the cameras quite good enough. You can put a USB flashdrive on the base unit to record your cameras. Battery life seems good so far. Geofencing works quite well, though when you come home there may be a slight delay. Check that the cameras will be within the range of your WiFi. (I used my cellphone to do this) I connected the base unit directly to my NetGear Range Extender without a problem. All in all a technical marvel but the instruction manual definitely needs a serious redo and the software can also be improved.

Should Have Returned Them When I HAD THE CHANCE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, these cameras start out to be cool, but fall flat. These are NOT security cameras. They do not activate when something is in the picture and there is no setting to keep them activated while something in the view. I've owned these for over a year and wish I had returned them. I've complained to Netgear and even signed up as a beta tester. Netgear has been testing new firmware on my cameras for over 6 months and they are still junk. I am going back to hard-wired system. In order for these to be any good you would need three to four cameras watching an area the size of a small bathroom 6'x6', as that's all they pick up. The reliable distance for the camera to even start recording is less than 5 feet, and then by the time it does start it misses what ever activated the camera in the first place. Don't Buy, don't waste your money, you will regret it. I regret buying these everyday. I wish there was something less than 1 star as that's all these cameras are worth.

Picture quality - D or F. Its okay, but definitely not even close to HD or SHD. BUT - I was not able to test it in all weather - as - the quality of the picture was so bad, I returned it.

After 1 Year of Use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Short and sweet. Bought this bundle as a gift for my folks: +Dad was able to get the initial set up going himself +Good (enough) video +7 days free storage -Drops cameras and is a pain to get them to reconnect once they drop. Range isn't an issue as they have 2 bar connections minimum -After 6 months of use two cameras died. RMA'ed those 2 under warranty and were sent two replacements. One of the two worked, the other still isn't working and now we're out of warranty. -Online admin panel is ok, but for setup, I wish there were more advanced options to dig in to issues for failing cameras. -Having to reboot and reset up the system over and over as cameras refuse to connect is super frustrating. Bottom line, I can't justify the price for the performance. I have a feeling the technology will improve, but for now, these wireless systems aren't all that great. If you can go wired, you're better off.

Regrets Buying
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchase these camera because I thought I was going to have a secured home. The cameras died after a 1 1/2 months of owning them. The batteries just stopped working. Then I was told I would have continous recording and all the camera does is record 30 sec to 2 min of movement! I would never buy these camera if I had the chance to return them I would. I am on the 3rd set of batteries from netgear.

Very Bad Product and No Customer Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this 1 week before black Friday, it worked for 4 days perfectly, than on November 25 the system crashed, and base station and cameras were not working, took about 18 hours to get back online. After that disaster the base station would keep disconnecting from the server, Many times I would check my cameras the system would be offline, called support spent an hour on the phone with them, resetting the base station and reconnecting the cameras, same issue after the support call. Here's what support told me, send the base station back when we get it we will would send me a new one!!!!!!! REALLY. After expressing my dissatisfaction, they said they would send me a new base station but I would have to give them my credit card.REALLY!!! Well I decided that this product was not worth the frustration, effort or money they are asking, Its unreliable at best, even when it worked the delay on the video makes the voice option useless. I would not recommend spending money on this beta product, its basically a overpriced toy with ZERO customer service.... There has to be a better option, just haven't found it yet.
