poor customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was easy but camera audio had a very loud ticking sound. Contacted Arlo customer support who told me that I will have to send the camera back to them at my expense and they will send me a replacement after they receive it. I don't feel I should have to pay to replace a defective piece and am returning the whole unit to Best Buy. The audio on the working camera was mediocre at best.

Great camera for the money.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After geek squad came back today with a new arlo pro system and hooked it , they discovered the port on the original system was broken. The new system is so fast at 4 seconds of lag , also picks up movement at 150 ft away. So if anyone is having this problem check big port on the back of the monitor ,if it does not click when you plug it in you have a problem . Using system outdoors in Wi. Also if you have outlets plug them in,you won't have to take batteries out to recharge them.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked great for the last 4 years now apparently you require a software update on the hub that cost anywhere from $150 to $500. For it to connect to the internet and continue working

Not good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not good for security. The lag time from motion detection is very slow and the cameras frequently go offline. Bought for security at entry door. First bought one Arlo Pro camera. Optimal positioning for camera recording would not allow motion sensing to work effectively. Bought another Arlo Pro camera to position further out to sense motion and start both cameras recording. The further camera is 22 feet from the base station with one exterior wall separation. It frequently goes offline. When it is online, the lag time from motion detection is horrible. Delivery drivers will set off motion detection but the recording lag only catches them driving away in delivery vehicle.

Don't buy this inferior product!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always laugh at bad reviews, thinking people were just in a bad mood and frustrated, because they couldn't operate a device, but i spent a week with this toy, and highly warn against buying it under any circumstances. Here's why: 1. There's an inherent lag on ALL Arlo products, no matter your bandwidth. This lag is enough time for someone to simply sneak past the camera, and to miss the criminal activity you want to capture. The support rep confirmed the inherent lag in a chat. 2. If you don't get the $99/per year paid subscription service, you WILL get spotty service. Meaning you won't capture all the activity going on. A security camera needs to be on 24-7, so you can monitor everything that's happening. Their free cloud service was down more often than it was up, losing 12 hour stretches of video at a time. This was just in the first week! 3. The motion detection circuit is archaic and will only work up to 15 feet. Newer smart-cams like the $20 Wyze Cam have new visual motion detection, that's so sensitive, it'll capture motion hundreds of feet away. Because of this shortcoming, Arlo makes a terrible outdoor cam, for your driveway or backyard. It will miss all the crucial activity, rendering it useless as a security cam. I wouldn't even use this as a pet cam. 4. It needs to run with a big, clunky base station, that hooks up to you ethernet, taking away limited inputs to your modem and hogging up space on your desk. The $20 Wyze Cam works with only an app, no additional hardware necessary. No extra components to fail. I do not work for Wyze Cam. I'm simply comparing Arlo to a superior product, that cost 10X less, and blows it away. 5. The local USB videos are totally useless, looking like they were underwater or behind glass. It's for no explicable reason, that the USB stores totally different looking videos than the ones stored on the cloud service. Tech support could not explain this. Which leads me to my next grievance... 6. The biggest problem was support. I've never, in my entire 50 years, spent 3 hours talking to tech support. This is completely insane. After 3 hours, they still couldn't resolve a simple issue, and agreed to send me a new camera, but only after i sent back the old one. That's when i decided to return this poorly designed toy to Best Buy and wash my hands of the whole frustrating debacle and with Netgear. DON'T WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS MONEY AND TIME ON THIS PRODUCT. BUY SOMETHING THAT HAS NEW MOTION DETECTION TECHNOLOGY, NO SUBSCRIPTION, AND THAT SAVES VIDEOS LOCALLY. I wish someone had given me this advice, before i wasted a week with this poorly designed scam-cam.

Needs improvement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased the Arlo Pro 4 camera system a few days back. Set up should have been a snap but one camera would not sync to the base. A second camera kept going offline. I switched out different batteries and kept resetting the base unit to set up again but kept having the same issue with the same 2 cameras. I took the system back and exchanged for a new system. Everything set up fast with the second system but after 15 minutes one camera kept going off line. I again swapped out batteries and moved the cameras around but the same camera kept going offline. I even reset the base and started the setup several times but the same camera kept going offline. Next morning the battery was at 10 percent for the offline camera. I like the idea of the system and the 3 cameras that worked were great. However I think quality control is poor and they pushed the new system out without greater testing. Not worth if for the price and hassle on the current product. Taking them back. Would be 5 stars if it werent for the failing cameras. As usual customer service at Best Buy was good.

Not reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When these cameras are working, they are great. But they are only for people who can go up and down a ladder every two or three months and sometimes more often than that. I bought the tenergy batteries and chargers because it was advertised that the batteries lasted longer. Not true in my case. I have to get up on a ladder every 6 to 8 weeks to reset the batteries or to change them. I would not recommend this for anyone who is not comfortable dragging a ladder around and getting up and down the ladder quite often. That being said, when they work, they work great. I have five of these cameras and will eventually replace them with hard wired cameras to eliminate the battery hassle. The other option would be to place them within reach so I wouldn’t have to use a ladder.

Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decided to wait a few days before posting. So far the system has performed perfectly. Set up was a breeze. I utilized my smartphone on the WiFi to set up the system. I recommend buying a system with the most cameras. It is much cheaper to buy more than to add after. My only gripe is the short delay before the system starts recording. I will adjust the sensitivity to see if that helps.

So Disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hubby and I returned a Swann system because our attic posed too many challenges to get it wired. Best Buy then tried to upsell the Arlo Pro outdoor system. Everything I read that concerned me (short battery life, no live stream, difficulty staying connected, etc.) were all countered by Mr. Slick, the self-proclaimed Best Buy "expert" on Arlo systems. Every question/concern was countered with "oh, that's the regular Arlo system, not the Pro". I wasn't sure, so I talked hubby into leaving, but he wanted to return and buy the 6 camera system. We discussed it and I agreed. It was $1000, and for that kind of money, I expected so much more. First, we had to download firmware that didn't want to load. Then we couldn't get the cameras to sync. Then hubby placed them around the house and began to position them and they would lose connectivity and time out. So frustrating. But here's the biggest rub: There is NO LIVE VIDEO. You have to tap each camera if you want a live shot...by the time it loads (if it does), it's no longer a live shot, it's from two minutes prior. Not great if you're checking out motion or a noise. This is not a setting issue. You won't see all cameras live at once because they freeze with the last motion and you have to tap each one separately and wait for it. We couldn't get the audio to work...lots of reviewers cite the same problem. Also, as we played with them outside lots of people walked by (kids, families) and it neither recorded or notified us of motions. So, the only motion it records is if you're right up on top of the camera, and then there's a delay...so, if you think you're going to get a recording of that burglar, you may only get frames if anything useful. How do you really assess what the problem is (burglar, friend, mother-in-law) if it's delayed by half a minute or more and didn't record right from the motion? And I want notified before someone is a foot from the camera (especially the mother-in-law ;)). If you're considering this, just know It's not live fluid video (even if Mr. Slick tells you it is). If that's what you want, look elsewhere. I should have heeded the other reviews and realized Mr. Slick was just trying to sell me something. After wasting the day on this, it's boxed up and getting returned. Very angry to have wasted so much time and effort.

OK Security Cameras to watch your pets
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cameras worked OK for two months after initial set up, but I have some issues with them: (1) Sometimes it takes forever to get their status. (2) The logon screen on my cell phone (Motorola) won't allow me to finish entering my password. It would wipe out what I entered in the middle of my typing and flash the screen. I have to try many times before finally got in. (3) When I made some adjustments on their location, they stopped working properly. They would show live scenes but would not record motions more than 3 inches away. After more than a week, they seem to gradually gain back some functionality. (4) If the motion is very fast, they won't catch it. So these cameras may be OK to watch your pets, etc., but may not be adequate for security reasons.

Service Discontinued! Stay away from ARLO!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great hardware. The firmware... Base station likes to fight with local wifi for channels, no way to set a fixed channel. Viewer improved over the years, but it took forever for them to fix an Aspect Ratio bug (Level 2 support was clueless, even with detailed description and screenshots). But getting an "ARLO End Of Life" notification after just a few years is unforgivable. Last ARLO product I will ever buy.

Avoid, unless you enjoy headaches
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking a simple security camera system for my house. I searched a few different web sites, checked out some reviews, and basically tried to do my homework. In the end I decided to go with this Arlo system. It was easy enough on the initial set up. Getting the cameras into the location I wanted was a snap. So far so good, then the problems. First issue, I have the front door camera pointed down my walk way and can see the street. My walkway is 23 feet long and the motion sensor does not activate the camera until the person has already knocked on the door. If the person has a hat on you never get a shot of their face. Second, of the four cameras I have in the set two of them refuse to stay connected to the system for more than a day. They have full batteries, the wifi signal is strong at their locations, but the go offline. There is no alert to let you know a camera went down. One of the cameras won't reconnect to the base. There were a few poor reviews on this system and I am going to give it about a week more. If the problems consist it will be going back to Best Buy and I'll try a better system.

Not worth the $$$$
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Battery life is awful. I wish I would have scrolled down and read more reviews. I see a lot of positive reviews, and at first I was happy with the product but once the temperature dropped below 50, the battery life that is supposed to last for 6 months went to lasting about 2 days. It's easy enough to recharge but it's a pain to have to remove the cameras especially if you have them in high places. This also means that if you go on vacation your camera system will run out of battery life unless you're only gone for a day or two. Now I'm left having to look for another device. I feel like I wasted $700

Poor Customer Support from Netgear
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased a 4-camera system from Best Buy Online. Unfortunately, one of the four cameras began sending false motion alerts every minute or two the first night it was installed; even after the sensitivity was set on 1. I called Netgear customer support and after some testing they agreed the camera was defective. Three days later I recieved an RMA email which requires customers to pay for shipping the defective camera back to them before they will mail a replacement. Imagine how long that could take if an email takes 3 days. Customers can also pay $16+ for Netgear to ship a replacement first. I believe Netgear should incur the cost of their product defects rather than the customer. Based on my product experience so far, I would still recommend this product with reservations.

not worth the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I expected so much more from this device given that it cost almost $200. It has crystal clear video, when it stays online. Most of the time it was either buffering or offline. I had my isp provider check my service tier to make sure I had enough bandwidth, and that my equipment is adequate to support all my devices. I was assured that the issue wasn't my service or equipment, since none of my other wireless devices have any issues staying connected. Also the two way audio is very poor quality. I've seen $50 cameras that have better audio quality. This is very disappointing, I'm returning it and looking into another brand.

Love it when it works- which is NEVER!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I purchased this after doing a lot of online reading. Got it home, set it up, worked fantastic for about two months. In the past two weeks I have had to do multiple hard resets followed by setting the whole system up again. The initial set up took close to 45 minutes- yesterday's hard reset and reinstall took 3 hours. Guess what.... it didn't even function properly for 24 hours before the system is down again. It doesn't even seem worth my time or yours to review the ins and outs of a product that doesn't work more than it does. I would say take a pass and go for something wired.

Great security system camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was recommended this security camera by an associate at best buy and this was the best purchase besides the fact that if there is a lot of movement in a location than the batteries need to be recharged constantly. Overall a great buy and would recommend this
