Awful Customer Service outweighs mediocre product

I bought the Arlo Pro 4 Camera system and wish I could return it. Worked great for a month, then the power in my home went out while we were away and the batteries died (because they try so hard to reconnect to a hub with no juice). Without getting into details, I needed a new charger and one battery because they both malfunctioned. Took 2 weeks to get a charger. Almost a month later, still waiting for the battery. Have now had 5 interactions with customer service. The product itself is fair. Good pic quality but there's definitely a lag and it doesn't always pick up activity and/or start recording quickly enough. If you have multiple devices in your home, you will likely have to deal with wifi interference at times.

    Could be great

When the product works it is ok to good. Sometimes it's unavailable to view.... sometimes the camera doesn't pick up motion, chargers don't work/charge the came, the camera stops accepting a charge. This could be a great system, but the support is HORRIBLE/almost non existent. It's the kind of stereotypical... non US based support that reads from a script regardless of what you have communicated to them. They are never clear on what they are stating and don't seem to know their own product. Commitments are never met ala... "wait 24-48 hours while we check on "X" and will get back to you", but of course no one ever does. You call back and have to go through the same thing all over again even though they "have made case notes".This product could be great, but they need to fix their software, hardware, and maybe even more importantly FIX their support. Most people understand if something goes wrong especially with electronics, but to add endless holds, the most annoying music (someone had to intentionally picked the worst/loud/staticy music to make you want to go away and hang up), and reps that clearly don't care or understand. If they care they aren't empowered to do anything. Try at your own risk.

Purchased these about a year ago. I've stopped using them for the following reasons: Problems with batteries and cameras. Battery went bad on 2 of 4 cameras. Worse is that the night vision went bad on one. Taking cameras down for charging , doable but irritating. I've changed to a hard wired , powered system.

Nice design, poor system interface and performance

I was excited to throw down $750 for the Arlo Pro security system (4 pack plus wall mounts). Sleek design, although, excessive packaging. You can tell that Netgear spent a lot of time and energy to develop a system that was easy to operate and sleek. Unfortunately, I have three major problems (which resulted in me returning the system w/in 24 hours) 1. Setup time took way, way too long. Syncing was a breeze and i thought I would have the system up in 30 minutes. However, I had an ongoing issue w/ the firmware update. I tried multiple times to update the firmware, but it failed (every time). I had to update the firmware to view the live streams. After nearly 3 hours, I gave up. 2. Unfortunately, i live in an area w/ DSL as my only high speed option (max 1.5 download speed). The system does not work well @ DSL speed. You really need something faster (Fios, fiber optics) 3. Camera quality is fair. 1080 is preferred. i understand the balance between battery life and image quality, but Arlo picture quality was horrible (could be directly related to my slow as mud DSL service). Net, net, the Arlo Pro was not for me. I'm really disappointed, but know when to cut my losses.

Arlo Pro is more like Arlo Rookie!! Can't setup any motion zones which makes this product nothing but a toy. Had a Logitech system 10 years prior which had the ability to setup motion zones but Arlo Pro....nope! Completely a waste of money!! Don't bother with Netgear products as they will just take your money and run...

    Nice Product - Doesn't Last

I purchased the Arlo Pro 4-camera indoor/outdoor wireless 720 system plus one add-on wire-free camera from Best Buy, July 26, 2017. The system worked great for the first year, then I had one battery problem in June of 2018. The battery would not charge. NetGear/Arlo replaced the battery, and all was ok until August 2019. Now I'm having problems with the other batteries and one of the cameras will not stay online. I followed all the troubleshooting steps and even discussed this with Arlo tech support, but the camera continues to go offline on a regular basis. Since my product is no longer under warranty all Arlo is willing to do is send me one more replacement battery. Spending over $600 for this system and having it last only 12 to 24 months is simply not worth it. I'm sure I could upgrade the Arlo Pro 2 and spend another $600, but for me, the price, warranty, unreliability, and poor customer service is not justified. I do not recommend anyone purchase these cameras based on my experience.

Major issue you need to know!

So, I was a big fan for Netgear products and the Arlo system. I bought the original 2-camera Arlo system and used it for years. Moved and bought a new home, and needed additional cameras, so I bought the 4-camera Arlo Pro system. As everyone says, "this is easy to setup and use!" What has happened is that Arlo has pushed an update that breaks the application. If you haven't noticed it yet, when you create a schedule timeframes to arm/disarm your cameras it doesn't automatically do it. There is currently a running thread in the Arlo support forums that goes back several months and they are "investigating" the issue. I wanted to keep this short. Until Arlo fixes this issue, the Arlo systems are pretty much useless. Yes, the cameras function and record. But the main feature that allows you to create a schedule for arming or disarming your cameras automatically is totally broken. Up to you on purchasing an Arlo system, but be aware of the issues.

    FAULTY PRODUCT - Buyer Beware!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I am beyond frustrated with my Arlo camera system.   In 2019, I purchased the Arlo Pro 4 camera indoor/outdoor wireless system.  In total, I only used it for about a year and a half.  And then I started having issues with the batteries charging.   First, they were barely able to hold a charge, and rapidly drained.  THEN they would only work while literally plugged into the charging cable. Now, NONE of my 4 cameras will even RECOGNIZE that they are plugged into the charging cable.  I have tried everything I can think of to resolve this short of buying new batteries - because I shouldn't have to buy all new batteries so soon.  Especially because I only ever used these cameras indoor, so they have not even been exposed to the elements outside.  I have removed the batteries and reinserted, plugged the camera in and THEN put batteries in to charge, switched outlets I am charging from, left the camera plugged in for 24 hours hoping at some point it would begin to charge. Absolutely nothing works.  Given it is ALL 4 cameras that are having the same issue, I can only conclude that this is a faulty product. And after reading about how many people have had this issues, it seems like this product is crap.   Spending $500 on my Arlo system is one of my biggest regrets. I wouldn't recommend and Arlo camera to ANYONE.   MORE FRUSTRATING has been trying to get in contact with an actual human being at Arlo to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. The 'chat bot' was utterly useless and ultimately directed me to discussion boards.  When I indicated to the "chat bot" that I wanted to contact live support, I was told that YOU NEED A SUBSCRIPTION to be entitled to speaking with a live person for support.  I'm sorry, I spent $500 on your product and you don't even have the decency to offer your customers support? Wow.  Definitely will never purchase anything Arlo again. BIG mistake.

When the cameras work they are great. Great night vision, loud alarm and I get notification straight to my phone when motion is detected. I had to exchanged two cameras due to the batteries not holding a charge. I had the same issue again so they changed out the entire system. I have issues with random cameras going offline often. My side camera does not detect motion often. I have had the new system hooked up for about 8 days and one camera is almost dead already (I do not receive many notifications on this one and I shut this one off when I get home) and I currently have a camera that is offline. It is a pain to have to take them all down to take them in for replacements or to resync them because they aren't working correctly. I purchased the system because I did not want to have to run wires. This system was much more expensive then the wired system and I regret my decision. This system is way to expensive to have continuous issues.

Arlo Pro 4 pack- not worth it

I only had product for 3 weeks, had to return. This product will not work outside with temperatures below 32 degrees, ( I live in Buffalo, NY) my camera only lasted 4 hours now totally DOA even after charging with the charger that comes in the 4 pack kit. Also 1 camera out of the box DOA. I contacted Arlo/Netgear about these issues, they did not resolve the issue. There was a lack of support. Customer service I would give them a Zero. Apparently they do not care. System had a lot of cool features but if the cameras do not work, it is useless and I would be out of $700. I will not purchase any Arlo or Netgear equipment. Hope this review help, Pro 1 camera out of 4 worked For the working camera it does send me email notifications to my email when activated Camera does have speakers and Mic on then that do work, I thought that was cool Con Will not work in the cold Batteries have issues Customer’s service is horrible if you have an issue Scheduling seems not to be users friendly.

When I needed this the most it failed to record any footage. Can't figure out why or what caused it to not record, but it happened at least two times that we know of. Batteries need to be replaced way too often and are not cheap. There are good things about the system, but they do not outweigh the bad for me to suggest anyone to buy this

    Worthless and Unreliable Junk

I will never buy another Arlo surveillance system. My last apartment was continuously broken into by a neighbor who thought she had a right to enter my apartment with keys that she illegally obtained from possibly the landlord. I bought this system and since Netgear kept changing the Android app repeatedly, they made the system worse and dysfunctional. Now this base station is obsolete because the cameras can no longer be paired using the button on top of the base station, and the app for setting it up keeps getting changed more so to benefit the company not the consumer. When I moved out of my last apartment, I discovered more illegal intrusions. Talk about bad luck or just a bad city. This time the intruders got into my router, ruined that and its replacement, then somehow took ownership of the base station and two cameras so they no longer work. No amount of resetting or even buying a new base station fixed it. I would get error messages saying the cameras do not belong to me. At the time I would find my own system listed in available Wi-Fi devices to connect to. How was that possible unless they port forwarded my system to theirs then made it easily accessible online. I am assuming they gave it open access to anyone in the area without a password. My experience in 2018 was nearly identical to the current problem unless this is the new way of hacking. Apparently they were using my own cameras to spy on me to see when I was home so they could go into my apartment. The locks on my apartment are cheap and easy to break. I complained to management who did nothing to improve that situation so essentially I had to temporarily move out. The police did nothing and didn't believe this was possible because typical Pittsburgh idiocy says if it didn't happen to them it doesn't happen. By the way, make sure you have a battery backup APC. The one I had initially stopped working, and I didn't purchase a new one until months later in 2018. At the time, I didn't realize the intruders were turning off my power which killed the base station power. My power box was conveniently placed for criminals to find outside my door not inside the apartment where they are typically placed. This apartment was just crying for a break in with a setup like that. I considered suing the landlord because he wouldn't put a lock on it. That base station takes about 10 minutes or longer to boot up when the power is restored which is lost time and allows the intruders to get out because the system reboots. Arlo should have built-in battery power for at least 15 minutes to cover that period in case of power outages. If the signs of intrusions had not been so subtle I would have figured out what was going on. This person was very devious and obviously dangerous. I know who she is. I just don't understand why she was doing it. I currently have an appointment to drop off my worthless Arlo system which I know they will not be able to fix since the base station will not recognize either of the cameras, and the cameras cannot be reset. Resetting the base station does nothing. $500 wasted on equipment that was worthless especially if it can be easily hacked by criminals smarter than those who created this junk. The only worthwhile use I got out of it was to spy on my cats and one video catching the landlord breaking in illegally which the worthless police did nothing about. If the police don't believe actual video of an intrusion then what do I need cameras for? I plan on purchasing a better system and will never buy another Arlo product or recommend it. For the price it should be a much better and more professional system. This one is too easy to hack.

Don't threaten this camera with movement!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I researched quite a while before I bought this camera set and I was really excited to install it. The quality seemed great, the app looked fine and overall it seemed to be the right outdoor camera. To test the whole system out, I installed one camera facing my front porch. And after an easy installation the system worked like a charm. As soon as it is "armed" and recognizes a movement, it starts recording a clip of 10 seconds or more (dependent on your settings). So I was happy and thought it was a good buy. On the end of day 2, my camera still showed 100% battery level. Unfortunately that all changed on day 3. Instead of a calm day, a light breeze came up and my American flag which was within the range of the camera started blowing in the wind. Sure enough, the camera picked up the movement of the flag and recorded one 10 second clip after the other. The next thing I got was an email from my ARLO system telling me that my camera had only 15% battery left! This was day 3! So instead of lasting 4-6 months, the battery drained within 3 days. What could I have done to prevent this? The camera does not support zones, so whenever something moves, it records. You can either disarm the camera (= turning it off) or you can arm it. But as soon as it is armed and something moves, it records. If you think about connecting it to a power source: forget it. Then this camera is not weather proof any longer (not that Arlo would mention that fact on the product page). I honestly have no idea how Arlo can sell this product and claim "long lasting rechargeable batteries". Who wants to have a camera which either needs total motionlessness or which needs to have its battery replaced every 3 days?

High cost of Ownership; poor batteries & Support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

    The GOOD, The BAD & The UGLY: Good looking, wireless but un-reliable & expensive batteries and worse than the rechargeable batteries is their Indian call center. After purchasing the Arlo Pro cameras (set of 4) for 650 bucks, I hooked it up and used it for a week to make sure the system was working. Everything was fine. We packed up the cameras during home renovation and never used it for another year. When I tried to recharge the batteries after a year, none of them would hold charge. And between the four(4) batteries it is 200 bucks. I call up their Tech. Support and get routed to their Indian call center, and boy, the first and last thing they tell me is my warranty expired after one year. Come On, haven’t they been taught to stand behind their own product. If you get routed to their Indian call center, just hang up and call at a different time to be connected to their US or Phillipino support centers…atleast they try to troubleshoot the issue. At their Indian call center…just a bunch of miserable folks who are sorry for you but would not want to help trouble shoot your issue when you need help. It’s not like I have been abusing their system. It was the first time issue I called their technical support line. Arlo says that their rechargeable batteries need to be replaced every 4-6 months. So, if you have a set of four (4) cameras, your yearly cost of batteries itself is 400-600 dollars... Very high cost of ownership. Video has delays and Audio has white noise; the cameras can hardly see anyone beyond 15 feet if it’s not lighted; the app is not robust and crashes the Android phones & tablets sometimes; cameras are not rain or snow proof…water easily enters the body of the camera and can corrode the charging circuit or battery terminals;

    Please please DO NOT BUY!!

After reading a lot of reviews, I've come to the conclusion that, if you merely use this as a system to ONLY WATCH whats on the cameras, then it apparently is great. If you plan on using for anything else, THAT ARLO advertises then go somewhere else. I purchased these for two main reasons: 1 - To be able to watch my kids, and talk with them while at work, both for security but also for peace of mind. 2 - To be able to communicate, or just even watch people as they come to the front door. Let me be clear, NEITHER OF THESE HAVE WORKED AS ADVERTISED. Both things are extremely slow and sluggish, if they work at all. When I try to use the "push to talk" feature, it completely freezes and I have to close the app or internet browser to get the camera up and running again. And Arlo's first solution is to blame your internet over and over again, even though I have 1 GIG INTERNET!!! I've spent LITERALLY 3 months talking with Arlo support both on the phone and through email, doing all of their suggestions, even though I knew in advance that they wouldn't work (Like uninstalling the Arlo app, EVEN THOUGH I ACCESS THE CAMERAS FROM THE INTERNET BROWSER ON A COMPUTER!!) I just received an email from Arlo support this morning telling me to do something that any one with even the smallest amount of technical knowledge whatsoever would know wouldn't solve my issue. This is after 3 months of technical support. 3 MONTHS! It's also something that I've already been told to do 3 times, AND THAT I'VE TOLD THEM THAT I'VE DONE! So after 3 months of this, I'm back at square one, EXCEPT, I've now been told that they only offer support for 3 months, unless I want to buy the subscription!!!!!!! So even though this is an issue I've communicated to Arlo since day one, I no longer have support for these cameras, and I can't return them because its well beyond BestBuy's return period (and honestly, BestBuy shouldn't have to accept these returns since its obviously the manufacturers fault). So I'm out $700 with a product that doesn't work, which means they just sit there. I strongly suggest you go with a different brand. One that not only functions as advertised, but also has a better reputation for customer service.

90 support is only for setup only nothing else. I call customer service because I had a message saying software update needed. When i tried ,message came up unable to update. Customer service told me it would cost $66.00 for assistance even through I was within my 90 day support. They said it was not related to setup so therefore it wasn't covered.

Nice that is wireless, records up to 7 days of free footage. Batteries die fast if lots of motion or cold outside, periods when Arlo App is down which is a security issue. Convenience of wireless not worth giving up reliable security.
