I would definitely recommendations this camera for purchase. It pretty much is all it says it is. The night vision video quality is satisfactory. Setup including the "activity zone" option was easy. The ability to be able to track a target and also zoom in on it is impressive. It's like the birds around here know of this feature as well and so seem to come around pretty often to get noticed. Not a big deal except they really do get noticed as I'm sent an alert each time.

I purchased the Arlo Pro 3 in place of the Ring floodlight cams and I'm very satisfied. The 2k camera provides clear video and the APP is very easy to use. The cameras can also be mounted anywhere your Wi-Fi signal will reach granted you have decent internet. The batteries seem to last 30-45 days depending upon the amount of activity the camera picks up. The alerts can get a little annoying so i would suggest you set up a custom activity zone if the camera is too face the street or front yard.

    Good upgrade from previous gens

I owned a first gen Arlo Pro and had skipped over the second gen, but it was time to expand to a new environment now that the third gen has come out, and suffice to say, it is a worthy update. Initial setup was extremely easy, since I already had the Arlo app I didn't have to download it, but that's available on both the Apple and Google Play stores, so there's no hassle there. Adding a new hub then the cameras to it is a breeze, it's a simple matter of clicking add, hit continue a few times as it tells you to plug in the ethernet and power, let it update the firmware and you're done. Adding the cameras is equally easy, put the battery in and hit 'add camera'. It's done in a few minutes once it verifies the firmware is up to date. The new Arlo Pro 3 comes with 3 months of the premium features, which are on-par with other smart security cameras, and allow for activity zones, smoke detection, e911 and cloud recording. Something that these are capable of, however, is telling you a little more about what is going on. I have received separate notifications for people vs cars, and I received one for packages. This is far and above a better set of detection than most other cameras in the class. The smart features are charged per-camera unless you upgrade to one of the higher plans, which, price-wise, are still comparable to most other security camera offerings. The one downside to the 3 months of free premium is that it starts immediately, even if you choose to skip the setup right at that time. You can, of course, go back and finish it, which did do, but I noticed that in the subscriptions it mentioned that it was already active and it had an expiration, so dont set them up until you're ready to use them. The video quality is outstanding, when viewed from my phone I could actually see the label on the package that was sitting beneath it when zoomed in. I cant say this will be the experience with everyone and very much likely has to do with distance from the object, but it's a feature I'm sure will be useful in the future. The camera itself has a 'spotlight' on it, which consists of a couple of LEDs. This is not a true 'flood light' as some other camera offerings have, but it is reasonably bright. The LEDs I can best equate to the equivalent two smartphone camera LEDs. This is a nice addition if you choose to use them. You can have them turn on with motion if needed for a bit of extra security. Now to discuss some challenges I've had with the cameras. Something I really enjoyed about the previous gen was that the mounting magnet was in the camera base itself, which meant I could stick it to basically anything metal, and did. I've stuck the previous gen to doors, a water heater, a curtain rod, etc. The current gen has a metal plate inside the camera base and the magnet is in the mount itself, so you're basically forced to use the mount, which, to me, drastically limits the mounting options. Also, the new battery *feels* cheaper than the previous gen. You can tell by looking at it that it's 2 pieces that are locked together, but there is a flexible 'give' to the battery now, and it definitely doesn't have the quality feel of the last one. The current gen and previous gen batteries are also not interchangeable, despite being almost exactly the same shape and size. The contacts on the battery itself are in a different location. Putting in the battery was an interesting experience, cause while popping the camera open with the button on the bottom went as expected, sliding the camera closed and pressing it hard enough to lock it was... odd... the middle of the front of the camera insert is soft and had a lot of flex when pushed on which was a little disturbing, so be sure to lock it closed by pushing on the SIDES of the camera casing as I'm unsure if you could cause damage to some workings of the camera by pushing on the middle. The cameras are supposed to have a color night vision, which I couldn't seem to get to work. It showed up in black and white along with the rest of my cameras, and I didn't even have the other base station connected at the same time, so I know it wasn't due to some interoperability issue between the two versions. I'm sure I had the latest firmware version as well, as both cameras and base station went through a firmware upgrade during setup. I'm sure I'll figure it out at some point and it's likely just a toggle I'm missing. All in all the upgrade is worthwhile, and the option to go to this generation is a good one if you do not have any smart cameras at all. The ability to expand this system with more cameras, place them where you need and have all of the added benefits for motion, night vision, e911 and smoke detection are excellent. Pros: Excellent video Color Night vision Spotlight Multiple types of motion detection Smoke Detection Activity Zones Expandable system Cons: Cheap feeling battery No magnet inside the camera Odd soft spot on front of camera unit

It was very simple to set up, not sure if it's worth the money though. Quality in the video could be better, there is a delay in notifying you when it detects motion. And when you do receive the notification of motion it does not allow you to view the footage right then.
