Will be returning today! I did a lot of research before buying them and thought I’d love them. For the money you pay, it’s not worth it at all. Battery dies way too fast! Charged it up fully put it in my camera then a week later nearly dead again. No excessive notifications for this camera to cause such a power drain! However, the other cameras go off way too much even after changing the sensitivity. Overall, for the money you pay for these cameras you’d think they’d work so much better!!

I’ve been using the Arlo Pro 2 security cameras for a few years so I was excited to see what the new Arlo Pro 3 cameras had to offer in terms of upgrades. Upon delivery I was eager to jump in and get them setup. Unboxing revealed 2 Arlo Pro 3 cameras, 2 batteries, 1 hub, 1 hub power adapter, 1 camera charging adapter, 1 camera charging cable, 1 magnetic camera mount, 1 screw on camera mount, 2 sets of mounting screws, and the setup guide. I was happy to see that Arlo has updated its packaging with a smaller regular box opposed to its older plastic packaging which was frustrating to open. The Arlo 3 cameras themselves also have an upgraded design. They are larger and more rounded and appear identical to the Arlo Ultra cams in design. The Arlo Pro 3 hub is also redesigned with a new rounded style. I also noticed that the camera charging cable has been redesigned with a magnetic interface opposed to usb. I jumped into setup so I consulted the setup guide which very simply directed me to connect power to the hub and connect it to ethernet, install the Arlo app on your mobile device, and then insert the batteries into the cameras. That’s the extent of the written instructions. To install the battery you will find a push button on the bottom of the camera which makes the camera release form it’s housing. The rest of the setup is handled by the Arlo app. Here you are required to sign up for an account if you don’t already have one. Notable here is that if you have Arlo cameras already you are limited to 5 cameras on an account. Exceed 5 cameras and you have to pay a monthly fee. This is an unfortunate theme with Arlo. More about that later. After signing up for an account the app will detect your hub where you can now name it to your liking. Next there was a prompt for a firmware update which the app states can take up to 5 minutes. Here I experienced my first hiccup as the app never notified me of the firmware update completing. Instead it just kept running. I finally closed the app and restarted it to find that the firmware update was in fact successful. You are then prompted to add your cameras to the hub. The hub detected the cameras very quickly and indicated that the cameras also required a firmware update. This process took a few minutes for each camera. Upon completion I was ready to place the Arlo 3 cameras in position. Here one finds a convenient bandwidth indicator which you can reference for best connectivity to your hub. I must say other than the slight glitch I experienced with the hub firmware upgrade the setup was a breeze. Anyone could set the Arlo Pro 3 up in a matter of minutes. The specifications of the new Arlo Pro 3 reveal some nice improvements. Instead of 1080p one now finds a 2k resolution of 2560x1440 with HDR from a 4 megapixel sensor which provides a 160 degree viewing angle. An on camera spotlight is also included like on the Arlo Ultra 4k model. Here one can setup the spotlight to be motion activated or you can manually activate it within the Arlo app. Also onboard there is an emergency siren. Nice addition. My older model only had the siren on the hub. There is two way audio communication which allows you to speak through the Arlo app to an individual in the vicinity of your cameras. Great for telling the delivery guy where to leave a package or to tell the kids to get to bed. An additional improvement is color night vision. I was curious to see how my Arlo Pro 2 compared to the new Arlo Pro 3 in terms of video quality. I set them up next to each other and then live viewed the two cameras. I was pleased to see the improved resolution and wider viewing angle evident in the Arlo Pro 3. This angle can be changed within the app. I was however a bit surprised to see that the Arlo Pro 3 video was much less vivid in color that the Pro 2. The Pro 3 simply appeared washed out. The Arlo app is feature packed with tons of options to adjust your cameras settings and modes. You can select armed, disarmed, scheduled, or geofencing. I have mine setup with geofencing so that my cameras are armed when I’m away from home and disarmed when I’m home. This is done automatically by the hub detecting the presence or absence of your mobile device. If motion is detected you are notified nearly instantly. You can also live view your cameras within the app. I do this often when away from home to check on things in and around my home. I often just look to see what the weather is at home. Of course it’s great to see if deliveries have arrived. There is even auto package detection but this is part of a paid subscription package option. Frankly this is one of my biggest disappointments with the Arlo product line. Yes they are great products but the best features are subscription based and will cost you more. Particularly disappointing is the that Arlo has done away with the free 7 day cloud recording on the Arlo Pro 3 which they have previously offered on other models for years. This is now yet another fee service which is $2.99 a month per camera. Considering the high price of Arlo cameras I find this insulting. One can however record to a usb drive attached to your Arlo hub but this video is not viewable remotely within the Arlo app. Instead one needs to remove the usb drive and play it on a pc. Seriously? The Arlo Pro 3 is undoubtedly a high quality and feature packed home security camera system. Just be aware that you have to pay extra to fully utilize this great device.

I have had a Blink 4-camera system at my home for a year and love it. My problem was that I wanted to be able to view my daughter's cameras when she is out of town and they haven't set anything up to make that an easy process with the Blink. I started looking into a new system and everywhere I looked, the Arlo was the top pick. I figured I would spend more money and get a great system, but this is not the solution. The daylight video is fine, but no better than the blink, but the night vision is horrible. With my Blink camera, I could clearly see the animals in my yard (deer, skunks, cats, possums, etc.). CLEARLY see them. With this system, you can see a shadowy figure of the deer and that's all it picks up. I'm sure there are other animals walking by but it doesn't pick them up. Another big issue is when you get an alert, it doesn't go to the page that has the video. You have go to another page and it takes at least 15 seconds for it to pull up. That's an absolute security failure. I didn't realize that it is run from a "hub" that is connected to the wi-fi. I live on an acre and my house is about in the middle of it, so I got an extender to put in the garage to give me service as far back as I need it. I wanted one of the cameras on my garage, which is maybe 40 feet from my house, but It wouldn't connect with the hub. I wanted one behind my garage, but that was also too far. I was told to try the hub out in my garage plugged into the extender, which was then great for the garage and the other 2 in the backyard, but the one in the front of the house was too far from the hub. I can't understand how a very affordable Blink system is so much better than this $800 system (I bought it for almost $500). I'm returning it and will set my Blink up again. I highly encourage anyone that wants something other than indoor security to steer clear of this system.

Cameras are easy to install almost anywhere you want to place them around the exterior of the house. Unfortunately 2 of the 4 batteries went dead within 2 weeks of installing. Even after fully charging each battery before they were installed. Logging on to view on the Pc the cameras seem like they had a glitch. There wasn't continuous viewing without cameras having to reload picture time after time. I read reviews through Consumer reports, they were good. Cameras were in the top 3 to 5 for being completely wireless. Spending $500 on a cameras system I expected more.
