I wanted to add some extra security around my house so that I would know when there is activity around the home, and I would have a recording of the event. I have a two story house. So, I did not see an easy way to fish wires from the attic down to the first story level where cameras would need to be mounted. Most camera security systems require that you run at least a wire for power to the cameras. So, I looked into cameras that are completely wireless. The Arlo Pro system cameras are powered by rechargeable batteries (charging cable included in the box) and utilize wifi to communicate with a base station. The base station must use an ethernet port to communicate on your home network. This can be accomplished by plugging directly into your wifi router or into an available ethernet port on your home network if you have run ethernet cable throughout your house. The cameras have motion sensors that work day or night that will trigger the camera to begin recording for a configurable period of time. The system can also send a push notification to your phone to let you know about the motion event. The default video quality is set to be in the middle between video quality and battery optimization. Though I have not had to use the video as part of any criminal report, the default video setting seems to be an acceptable setting producing good quality video, which could be used to develop a description. Netgear has servers for Arlo to store video recorded by your cameras. They have both a free and a paid tier for the video recordings. One big selling point for me was that in addition to freely storing seven days worth of recordings on their servers, the Arlo Pro base station also has a USB port into which you can connect a USB thumb drive to keep a local copy of the recordings. I am using a 64 GB USB thumb drive. Another selling point is that Arlo Pro will integrate with the SmartThings hub so that you can incorporate the cameras sensors and the base stations siren into your home automation workflows. One of the things that I have not liked about the cameras is that they do not have the ability to define regions within the full view of the camera within which to care about motion events. For example, I have a camera mounted at my front porch, and I had a flag mounted on one of the columns. Well, every time the wind blew the flag, a motion event would be generated. My phone would get a push notification and a 10 second video would be recorded. This was happening every couple of minutes. So, I tried mounting the camera in such a way as to only capture the porch activity, which includes the front door and the one window. However, the flag blowing in the wind was reflected in the window, and that was enough to trigger a motion event. For now, I have taken down the flag, which has solved the motion event problem, but I don't like that I'm in a position of choosing between displaying my flag or having a security camera. Overall, I would say that this is a very good product that solves the problem of security surveillance without wires very well. I do recommend the Arlo Pro Wireless Security Camera System.

I am very happy with the Arlo camera. I can open the app and watch live on each camera. Then as soon as they detect motion they start recording. I do not pay a monthly fee....that is all free to DO! The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is after 3 weeks they quit working. My husband had to completely uninstall them and reinstall to get them to work again. We are hoping that is a fluke and won't have a problem again.

So I bought these cameras to keep an eye on my house after my mailbox was driven over at night when my wife an I were sleeping not once but twice. The setup is rather straight forward you go to the Arlo website and create an account. Follow the steps to configure the base station and then sync the cameras to the base. The batteries last a decent amount of time depending on how you have it configured. The way I have it set up I get about 6 - 7 months out of a charge from spring through fall the other 5 - 6 months I get about 2 maybe 2.5 months out of them due to it sometimes getting bitter cold in the low teens for days and as with any battery that is outside it will just chew through it. The image quality is on par for a 720p camera and is more then useable. The audio works great and you can clearly hear what is on camera. The mounting is easy, put a screw in the wall hang the magnetic mount put the camera up. For the outdoor mounts still easy but not that easy, you screw in the mount and then screw the camera into a swivel so you can position the camera. Overall I would buy them again they do what I need it to do with the features I was looking for.

I bought the Arlo Pro because of customer reviews. Still you aren't sure till you hook them up. They weren't hard to hook up, and weren't hard to download to your smart phone and computer. The emails are sent immediately, and the videos work excellent. The picture and sound work as advertised, even at night. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I bought this Arlo system with high hopes, and it did not disappoint! Absolutely love how it works, ease of use, and the setup is a breeze. It will definitely give you peace of mind when away from home and it always help to be in the know of what's going on and what is going on in your home when you're not around. After having a horrible experience with Ring Doorbell 2, this camera system is flawless! Such a great product. Super easy to set up and works exactly the way it is supposed to. Great video quality and very good app. Its also has a setting for it to pick up sounds. Highly recommend this if you are looking for outdoor security that is wireless and wire-free!

    The Good & The BAD

The Good: It has a good picture quality, simple to set up, free 7 days of video storage for up to 5 cameras, can hear through the camera very well The Bad: At times during a recording it will stop & not start right back up if the motion moves out of ranch and then back in ranch you could miss like 30 seconds of footage, talking through the camera has way to much lag and people on the other end can be gone by the time your message gets through, it doesn't always switch from armed to disarmed while in geofencing mode. Other than that I wish the range for motion detection was about twice as far. I would, and have, recommended them though and the person I recommended them to bought 5 cameras and has the same opinion as I do about them.

Truly the easiest to set up & use. No wires & the batteries in the pro last a long time without charging! Can't wait to add a few more cameras to cover the few spots I can't see. The only down spot is the price but that out weighs the product once you see how great it works. Now if they just get in gear with the superstate charging station it will be a complete system.

The entire installation took about 30 minutes, which includes syncing to the base and installing outside. I would highly recommend using the screw-in base for outside installations (I think one comes in the box with the cameras; additional are sold separately - definitely a drag). The cameras have good range (at least for my use - 30 to 50 feet away). Night vision is pretty decent; however, you won't be able to tell distinguishing features at distance at night. The application for the iPhone is easy to use; and with a few minutes of playing around on it, you should be able to figure out most things. You can adjust the motion detection sensitivity, pan and zoom (within the original frame of the camera), and listen and talk through the cameras. The cameras are not extraordinarily loud, but you can hear them outside (if they are higher up, talking through them will likely be less effective). I really like the system. My only issues include the high price (although I would say it is pretty fair for a wireless system) and the potential for a subscription for some extra optionality with the cameras. I did not go for the paid subscription, and I do plan to attach an external hard drive at some point. I'd give this product an A- due to the cost and subscription but excellent flexibility and ease of installation/use.
