There was no AC adapter to charge the battery. Wanted to buy the alto charger but none was available to match the camera even the 25ft. Charging cable was not available to match the camera. Will never buy after market products for something so expensive. That’s why it was returned.

    Overall good camera system

Overall this is a good camera security system. Have had for close to 4 months now. Pros: Reasonable priced compared to some other devices. Package included 3 cameras, 4 batteries & charger. live shots and recorded videos notifications to phone and can disable cameras battery life decent for outdoor cold maybe once a month charge needed mounts solid but twist to take off if needed, also battery can be removed with tool included without taking down whole camera. has button phone for light, and siren and talk Cons: Delay in live shots, sometimes 10 seconds. (all systems appear to have delay, some longer than others.) when going to app I have to tap screen to active live shot battery life does go faster if not in good wifi service. we have 2 with strong wifi and one mid strength signal and the mid strength always needs charged sooner. must get subscription after 3 months free, ($10+ per month) otherwise cameras almost useless. Overall I am satisfied with the camera system. Does what we needed.

I have set up several “traditional” security camera systems with a DVR/base-station, wires and cameras, as well as IP/network wired camera systems. This camera is by far the simplest to mount and configure. Using just my phone I was able to complete everything I needed to do to get the camera up and running, and it was simpler than setting up some wifi enabled plugs I have scattered around the house. Someone with a cell phone, and basically NO experience with setting up any kind of electronic device should be able to get this camera up and running in very little time. Placing the camera and orienting it was also super simple: one screw to mount the base where I wanted it. Once the base was on the wall the magnetic attachment between the base and the camera made pointing the camera exactly where I wanted it to look unbelievably easy. Operationally the camera is as simple as the setup. The interface on both phone and tablet is easy to navigate and the image is outstanding. The wide field of view is a very nice feature as it allows a single camera to cover a large area, even if the “fish-eye” effect is a little weird at first if you’re not used to it. I was actually more impressed with the two-way audio feature as I didn’t know what to expect. The audio is crisp and clear even from a good distance away. The motion detection on the camera is not so sensitive that it picks up cars driving pass the house as my older system did, but it seems like it does a real nice job of detecting any movement within about 30 feet or so. When the motion sensor sees something it also turns on a spotlight. This is not the brightest, but it doesn’t need to be as it illuminates the detection area meaning you have a nice color image of whatever set it off, while not being so bright as to get annoying every time a cat strolls past late at night. People I know in law enforcement have recommended this type of camera to me as the light has a deterrent effect on many scaredy-crooks. The system also has an integrated siren and enhanced 911 call capability, but haven’t tested them, but I can see where they could be useful as well. The nicest feature is the notification system. Each time motion is detected and recorded a notification pops up on devices that are authorized in the Arlo account. This is a nice feature and it has alerted us to a couple of package deliveries as they arrived rather than stumbling upon them hours later as sometimes happens at our house. Each notification categorizes the type of motion detected if possible as person, vehicle, animal etc. and puts a small image in the notification from the recording so you can quickly see what caused the notification. The only thing I have had to get used to is the lack of a continuous recording feature. I understand that as a cloud-based system 30 second clips make a lot more sense though, and it’s really just my own personal preference as I have found that motion activated systems don’t always catch everything you really want to see, but that is a small quibble. The camera came with a 3 month trial of the online account that provides recording and some of the advanced features. Without a recording capability the camera is VERY limited in what it can do so I will likely pony up the $3 a month for the camera after the trial, though I have looked at expanding to additional cameras with a base station, that would allow for local backup. All in all I am extremely happy this camera, though at the cost and the subscription I don’t think I will be replacing the rest of my legacy security cameras any time in the immediate future. I put this one in the highest traffic area for people and vehicles, and the most likely place it might catch someone breaking into a vehicle or stealing a delivery, and I think this camera is perfect for that.

    Solid performer, a little pricey

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I got this as part of the Arlo EOL program discount, as such I was happy, but full retail is steep. Mostly a solid performer, geofencing can be a bit frustrating if you have 2 or more people who are part of the system. If 1 person doesn't have their phone set "right", you will not correctly trigger the home mode. The camera has overall has a slightly better image than the original Arlo that it replaced. Expect to need to charge more often in active areas of placement as you trigger the motion and use power. Best for active areas is to forget the battery and wire in the power if possible or get the XL battery to ~double battery life (which is acceptable). Note the batteries take several hours to charge (overnight for XL). A spare charged battery for the swaps is essentially needed.

This is my first security camera purchase. Happy with the product overall. Picture quality is very good. Installation is very easy. Battery life is about one week, I live on busy street. Recommend mounting the camera in very accessible location, because of changing batteries. I used a small blocks of wood to attach the camera to, and then using a clamp to attach the block of wood with the camera to the house. It took some time to figure out the best location for the cameras. Using clamp allowed relocating cameras from place to place without damaging the house exterior. Smart notifications are good but not perfect. You will get lots of notifications no matter how much filtering you do. My understanding is that even if the smart notifications filter the viewed object, the camera still registers the object, and does drain the battery, except you do not get the notification. I like the compact size of the camera and would advice against XL model cameras which are very bulky.

I had wanted to get an outdoor security camera for some time but did not splurge earlier because I didn't want to deal with complicated set up. I got this camera and was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to set up. Once the app was downloaded, it was easy to pair and follow the simple instructions. The camera is held to the base by way of a magnet. In my opinion, this has pros and cons. The con is that anyone could conceivably just come and take the camera with no problem whatsoever. The pro is that it is easy for the user to install the base with the included screw and anchor then mount the camera and adjust as needed. It's also easy to remove the camera to charge it when necessary. It appears to me to be secure in the attachment and I have no fear of it falling off (unless perhaps a bird landed on it, for example). While I've not had it long enough to test the life of the battery charge, I can say that I did place it where it would detect movement multiple times which generated the spotlight to come on and generated alerts. So far (about 5 days), the battery life indicator says 88%. It's super easy to charge; just remove the camera and attach the included charger to the unit. There's no need to remove the battery. The alerts appeared to trigger from four to six seconds after the the motion was detected and the event saved in the library for review. In the dark, the spotlight is activated thereby illuminating the subject. The video image quality appeared to me to be very good, nice and clear. Going to live image, you have the option of activating the spotlight if it's dark and when that's done, the image is colorized as opposed to varying shades of gray. The two way audio also appeared very good and clear. Activity zones can be set up so that you can indicate areas from which you want to receive motion alerts. Also, this seemed well able to distinguish human from animal. Also, auto zoom and tracking can be set up and it can be disarmed or placed on a schedule or have geofencing set up to limit the alarms and detection, thereby prolonging battery life and unnecessary alerts. I've not used the Arlo Smart services, such as smart notifications, e911 or call a friend. I've got package detection on but haven't had to use it yet. Alerts can be easily viewed and/or deleted from the library. It does have an activate siren feature that I've not tried so as to not "cry wolf" for the neighbors. I presume that if I detect an intruder, I can activate the siren myself to hopefully have him think twice about taking that package or trying to get inside. I'm still within the 3 months of the free trial subscription and am not sure what services (other than cloud storage?) may be gone after that time trial.

I have to give this a 1 star rating because Arlo now forces you to pay a monthly subscription to have any recording capabilities on the Pro 3/4. My Pro 2 records upon motion and stores it for 7 days for free. This is no longer the case for the Pro 3/4. I was ok with paying $9.99/m for continuous recording for one camera, but now I have to pay another $9.99/m just so I can be notified and record after motion on my 2 newest cameras. What a terrible idea.
