Arlo Pro 5S 2k HDR -Great camera for home security
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo Pro 5S 2K is Arlo's latest-generation product with a host of powerful features. It serves as a significant upgrade to the Arlo Pro series camera that I currently own. Arlo has consistently impressed me with its performance and the robust security features it offers. However, the only drawback is that to fully unlock its potential, you must subscribe to their service package; otherwise, it functions similarly to a standard camera, albeit with superior image and video resolution but lacking motion or activity alerting features. It comes with a 30-day trial period to access all the security features it offers and with my existing subscription, adding this to my existing set-up was a no-brainer! Installation: Setting up the Arlo Pro 5S 2K was a breeze, taking less than 5 minutes for my Arlo app to detect the camera. A notable feature of the Pro 5S 2K is that it can function as a standalone (without the need for Arlo base station) camera with dual-band Wi-Fi support (2.4G and 5G). The package includes a charging cable and an outdoor mount. Features: • This camera is both wireless and weatherproof. My four-year-old outdoor Arlo cameras have endured various weather conditions and are still going strong, making the new ones an excellent choice for outdoor use. • When evaluating outdoor cameras, the first three aspects I consider are video and image clarity, resolution, and field of view, and the Pro 5S excels in all of these categories. The images are sharper, even in low light, and I can zoom in up to 12X for enhanced detail on distant objects. With a 160-degree view, it's ideal for monitoring larger areas. • The night vision capabilities are outstanding, with color night vision and an integrated spotlight it captures crucial details in color during nighttime recording. With its 2K HDR resolution and 12X zoom, it provides more detailed images. • While I can't speak to the battery life yet, given my past experience with Arlo devices, it should last at least three months with minimal alerts. The Pro 5S also offers a "low power mode" setting to extend battery life when it drops below 10% - configurable to 20% and 30%. • In terms of security features, it offers a plethora of options to tailor to your needs, from simple phone alerts for motion detection to the ability to call a friend or activate a siren and emergency response team. These features require a subscription, but they are well worth the investment, especially for peace of mind during extended travels. Additionally, it features a microphone and supports two-way audio for outdoor conversations. • The app is user-friendly, feature-rich, and easy to navigate for configuring settings or reviewing alerts and feeds. • Phone notifications are impressively quick, typically arriving within seconds, which is a significant improvement compared to another brand I've used with reporting delays. Overall, Arlo cameras have consistently proven reliable in my experience, but the Arlo Pro 5S 2K brings even more features to the table, making it a worthwhile upgrade for my outdoor surveillance needs. I definitely recommend it for outdoor use, especially if you already have an existing Arlo setup and subscription, adding this camera for outdoor use is a no-brainer!

Great Picture on the Pro 5S
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The all-new Arlo Pro 5S 2K wireless camera delivers a sharp, detailed picture with a 160-degree view, and the newly updated app allows you to set specific settings that should help with the camera's overall functionality. Pros: Setup Alerts Resolution/Video Quality Updated App for (more) Features Cons: Stand Alerts within the app Out of the box, the Arlo Pro 5S 2K was easy to set up. I plugged the camera in to charge (for an hour) to get a full charge. Since I already own the Arlo app and Home Station, it was easy to pair/sync up the camera to my already home network. The app literally walks you through the entire process. If you do not own the app, you will need to download the Arlo Home app from the Play or Apple store. Although you do not necessarily need the Home Station (which allows you to insert a memory card for local video storage), you can subscribe to cloud storage, which, for five cameras, its $12.99 a month for up to thirty-days of captured recordings (you can save these recordings as well so they do not automatically delete). What I enjoyed with the new Arlo Pro 5S 2K camera is setting up the alert settings. With the new app, I am able to configure the sensitivity levels of motion detection, as well as set activity zones for specific recording areas. I found this to be an improvement over the old Arlo Home app because other cameras I have owned were picking up too much in the recordings, and ultimately, their battery died quicker. Additionally, newer settings allow the user to select Color (new) or Black and Whie night vision. Still, you are able to set up the volume level for the microphone, as well as audio sensitivity settings. Video quality for the Arlo Pro 5S 2K is incredible. I found, especially at night, the video quality to be clear on the "Best video" settings. Keep in mind that if you select a battery saver or "optimized," etc., the quality is not as good, and I believe the resolution suffers. Also, the newer 160 degree view provides a wider lens to capture moments even further than before. Additionally, the quality of the picture was clear, precise, and with HDR, colors were vibrant. Again, the updated app allows you to take control of the camera settings further than before. The new home screen within the app allows you to set up widgets (quick access) to your cameras, as well as "arming" routines (more on this in a moment). Additionally, when set up correctly and with a paid subscription, you can set up emergency services (if you detect something suspicious, you can select "call emergency"). One of the issues I had with the app was the stand that comes with it. Over time, if you are removing the camera to charge it, the threading and ball movement (although great when setting up the camera initially) can become loose/stripped over time, and your camera will eventually tip or lower on its own. I wish Arlo built a better stand for this purpose (especially because it is outdoors), or they went back to their magnetic bases. Two, although not entirely related to the camera itself, one of the settings within the app may or may not give you alerts. I found out (from an Arlo agent) that specific "armed" settings may cause the cameras to not send notifications/record events. For instance, if the app is set to "standby" nothing will record. In "arm home" mode, only some movement is recorded. Finally, "Arm away," will record all events that take place around your recording areas. When setting up, be advised that your cameras may not record unless the armed feature is set a certain way. Overall, the Arlo Pro 5S 2K provides a clear picture during the day and night. The app has several new features to get the most out of the Pro 5S 2K, and setup was easy.

Awesome Purchase
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Arlo Pro 5S 2K 3-Camera Bundle to upgrade my home security, and I’ve been really impressed so far. Setup was super easy since the cameras are wireless, and the magnetic mounts make it simple to position them exactly where I need them. The video quality is excellent — the 2K resolution is noticeably clearer than my old 1080p cameras, and the color night vision makes a huge difference when checking footage at night. Motion detection is accurate too; it’s great that it can tell the difference between people, cars, and animals so I’m not getting bombarded with false alerts. The built-in spotlight is surprisingly bright and does a good job of deterring activity around my property. The two-way audio is clear enough to have quick conversations with delivery drivers or to scare off unwanted visitors. Battery life has been solid — I usually go several weeks before needing to recharge, even with moderate activity around my home. That said, you do need the Arlo Secure subscription to get full use out of the cameras (like storing video history and more advanced detection features), which is an extra cost to keep in mind. Overall, this is a reliable, easy-to-use security system with excellent picture quality and smart features. It’s not the cheapest option, but you really get what you pay for in terms of performance and peace of mind. ✅ Pros: • Clear 2K video with color night vision • Easy to install and adjust • Good motion detection and smart alerts • Spotlight and two-way audio are very useful • Works indoors or outdoors ⚠️ Cons: • Subscription needed for cloud storage/advanced features • Price is on the higher side Final Verdict: If you want a premium, worry-free security system that’s simple to set up and delivers high-quality results, the Arlo Pro 5S 2K bundle is worth the investment.

Solid security camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo Pro 5S 2K Indoor/Outdoor Wire Free Spotlight Security camera is a solid security camera, it was easy to configure with the Arlo Secure App, and it integrated well with our older Arlo doorbell device. It comes with decent battery life, great video quality for extra details and good floodlight for those dark nights. As a wire free device, it can be installed anywhere there is access to Wi-Fi. We have it installed outdoors, and it’s been working fine this short time we’ve had it. We’ve been able to access and configure it through the Arlos Secure App with no issues, and it’s been able to detect movement, light up, record, and send notifications (as expected/configured.) You’d need to buy a subscription, if you don’t already have, or may need to update/upgrade it, if you already have one, to have access to cloud storage and useful features provided by this camera. I got a 30-day trial period for this device (the 30-day trial period seems standard), so after that I’ll need to upgrade my plan. It doesn’t have local storage to store videos/pictures, so take that into consideration when deciding to buy this and opt for one of the Arlo subscription plans. No device is perfect, but I think this one is close to a 5-star rating. - Pros: Wire free, easy configuration, great video quality, indoor/outdoor use, decent battery life. - Cons: no local storage, spotlight not too bright. >> Note for existing Arlo device owners. Prior to owning the Arlo Pro 5S 2K Camera, I already had an Arlo Essential Video Doorbell Wired device (2020 model) installed and set with a monthly subscription plan. When adding my Arlo 5S 2K Camera, I was asked to upgrade to the new Arlo Secure App, and in doing so, I was welcomed with a warning that my existing (old) Arlo Doorbell was “not currently supported.” There was a note to have all the devices powered and running the latest firmware, and I verified my Arlo doorbell was on and had the latest available firmware. It seemed that I was out of luck with my existing Arlo doorbell. I searched online for clues on what do, but nothing useful came up beyond finding an end-of-support list of Arlo devices with my doorbell device absent from that list. Still not sure whether to proceed with the update or not, and risk losing access to my old Arlo doorbell, I contacted Arlo Customer Support for guidance and clarification. The Arlo Customer Support team were extremely helpful and assured me that my doorbell was supported (despite the message to the contrary.) So, back to upgrading the Arlo Secure App and installing my new camera, I chose the “Upgrade Anyways” option (still felt a little uneasy with that “Anyways” word being there) and in an instant the Arlo Secure App was updated. I added the Arlo Pro 5S 2K Camera and configured it. And after all being done, I still had access to my Arlo doorbell, nice! >> Setup If you already have the Arlo Secure App, you might need to update it, also make sure your current Arlo devices are with the latest firmware (see the notes above.) Otherwise, just download the Arlo Secure App from the app store (you’d need to create an account with Arlo.) In the Arlo Secure App, select “Add” device and follow the on-screen instructions, they are descriptive enough to allow you setup the camera without much effort. Just a few things to note based on my experience setting up the Arlo Pro 5S camera: - If you already have the battery inserted, to connect to a wireless network, you don’t need to extract the battery completely, just take the outside cover and there is a button near the battery charge connector that you can press for the camera to start blinking blue. I found out about this when changing the wireless network from a 2.4Ghz to one supporting 5Ghz. - It is recommended (well it is instructed) to connect to a 2.4Ghz network for the initial setup. - I had an older version of the Arlo Secure App, and I thought it would take minutes to upgrade it. I was surprised that it took only a couple of seconds to complete the upgrade (I suspect the App updates were already downloaded and were just waiting to be activated.) - After the camera scanned the QR code for connecting to a wireless network, it took a while for the App to “recognize” the camera. It was about a minute, but it felt very long, especially given that I had the camera and the phone with the App next to the router. - Once the camera was added, an option for updating its firmware showed up, which I selected, and the light started blinking blue and then amber interchangeably. The update failed then and on a few subsequent attempts, I decided to skip that step and complete the setup. Later, with everything working, I went to the Firmware option for the camera, and it showed “no updates available”. This was a little annoying since one gets to believe the camera is not up to date during the setup. - You do need to enter the Wi-Fi password, as leaving it blank still allows you to move to the next screen and you might be “forever” trying to add the device. You can choose to “share” access to the devices with other family members. From the primary account, in the Arlo Secure App, you choose who to share, what devices to share, and what access they’ll have on the shared devices. We have two phones that can access the doorbell and the camera, and can react to the notifications, very nitty. >> Outdoor I was searching for an outdoor security camera that could resist the dire weather conditions of the Pacific Northwest, and this one seems to be holding on just fine for now. Winter will tell how sturdy the Arlo Pro 5S camera is since the weather is rainy and cold with some snow. Nevertheless, it’s been raining and a little cold for the past several days and accessing the device has been fine from within the Arlo Secure App. One problematic aspect I see by having the device outdoors is recharging the battery. When the recharge time comes, it means uninstalling the device from its outdoors location, getting it inside for recharging, and installing it back in its outdoors location. This means, you’d need to place the device in a more or less accessible area, but not too accessible so that it can be easily stolen. The battery seems to last for several weeks; however, I still foresee myself complaining when recharging the battery. If I had it for indoor use, I’d suspect recharging the battery would feel easy and not an inconvenience at all. >> Floodlight For outdoor use, the floodlight’s brightness is just ok, not too bright but enough to distinguish objects and the general vicinity. If floodlight is one of your primary features sought after, you may need to find another Arlo device in which that feature is more prominent, as I don’t think the floodlight feature is the shiniest one for the Arlo 5S camera. For indoor use, the floodlight intensity is more than enough as far as I could test, you can even choose to dim it if it is too bright. >> Battery As far as I can tell, the battery life is very good. Based on my usage in the last few days, in Optimized mode (not the best video quality but decent enough), I expect the device to last for over a month before needing to recharge the battery. I haven’t measured it since I had done it only once, but it feels the device charges fast (well depending where you plug it in). You’ll get to know when it is fully charged when the blue light is on (the minimum you expect is to know when the device is fully charged!) >> Security features With the Arlo Secure App, you can access to the many features of this device and adjust the settings to your needs: - define activity zones. - adjust the field of view (from wide 160 degrees, 125 degrees standard and to 110 degrees full mode). - video quality. - Spotlight brightness. - and many more. In the Arlo Secure App, you can also configure Routines (a set of schedules) on when to arm your devices for much needed security. I am very pleased with the device and the app. For example, we’ve been able to detect bunnies running outside in the rain (we thought they were gone for good, but it nice to know what is going on out there while we are sleeping.)

Reliable with a subscription, not for Apple users
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm already using older (End of Life as per Arlo) Pro and Pro 2 cameras that served me well. These cameras connect to a base station and the base station has an USB drive serving as local storage. Arlo's cloud offering for these cameras provided 7-day recording and they integrate with HomeKit as well as Alexa and Google Home and SmartThings. These cameras don't support Apple's Secure Video storage but otherwise works for my needs. The Pro 5S camera improves in almost every way. The hardware specs are great: - Integrated spotlight - Selectable B/W or Color night vision (Color uses the spotlight). - Can be used with no base station, supports 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wi-Fi, and direct connection to Arlo's Alarm panel. - 2K recording and streaming. - Built-in Siren. - Package, Person and Animal detection, but only with a subscription. - 2-Way audio via the Arlo app and some integrations. However, after dealing with Arlo's overseas support for about a week, someone in escalation support realized that these cameras, unlike their end-of-life sibilings, do not support HomeKit. This implies no Apple TV support, and anyone in the family that would like access to the camera's livestream needs to install the Arlo app, which is not simple because it requires two factor authentication tied to the main user, meaning I need to sign in anybody that needs to use it. They cannot access the feed from the Apple Home app from their phones nor Apple watches. They do however integrate with Amazon's Alexa and the integration works a lot quicker than with the older cameras. We have some Amazon Echos with screens through the house and it works well. It also works with SmartThings, Google Home and IFTTT integrations (Use it to turn lights on when the camera detects movement). These cameras do not support any type of recording without subscription, except for the local recording to USB on the base station (that I happened to already have), but that local recording does not work through the app. I have to access them disconnecting the USB drive and finding the recording on the computer. Useful for emergencies but hardly convenient. These cameras are designed to be used with an active subscription. This is why it comes with a 30-day trial of their subscription, because they're not very useful without it. It's worth it if one buys into Arlo's security packages and uses their alarm panel, which works better with their top tier subscription (Yes there are different subscription plans). Battery life is good for 3 to 4 months. There's an optional solar panel for these and Arlo offers additional mounts including magnetic and ceiling mounts, as well as white, black and camo enclosures. The cameras are waterproof even when connected to power. They use a magnetic connector that works very well. If using a permanent mount, one can leave the enclosure attached to the mount and remove the camera body with a push of a button. The battery is nested inside. Very simple to change the battery, and much better than older models. Overall, great cameras if an Arlo subscription is good for you and you're not relying on Apple's offerings.

Easy setup, less than stellar battery life
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have other Arlo cameras inside the house for doggie cans, and I have an Arlo doorbell. All excellent products with good reliability and months between charges. This camera’s spotlight must really rack up power drains because the battery only lasts about two weeks. That would not be an issue except that the charger is completely proprietary for some reason. Functionality and quality is fantastic as expected. The video feed is sharp and full color, even at night. The sensitivity of the motion sensor for the spotlight and camera can be adjusted. However, it is not intelligent enough to distinguish an animal or passing car from a person, so you get a lot of false positives depending on placement. More intelligence to discern those things would be much appreciated. Think carefully about where you’ll mount the camera because you’re going to need to charge it often. Ideal placement may be at the top of an eave, but don’t put it there unless you plan to haul a ladder and extension cord out every few weeks! I tested battery stamina prior to mounting the camera and am glad I did. I ended up putting it lower and closer to an outlet. The phone app is EASY. All my Arlo devices are on one screen and I can view activity live at a glance. Pay for subscription to keep your feeds. I recommend for ease of use, quality, and reliability, but I stole a star for that silly charger and battery life.

Great high-res place anywhere camera for Arlo ppl
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo Pro 5S 2K - Wireless indoor/outdoor security camera Quick Overview ================================= Arlo has been making cameras for years now and their focus has been wireless, battery-powered models that can be "placed anywhere". This new Arlo Pro 5S 2K is a new, high-resolution version that's safe inside or outside your home. Overall build ================================= If you've seen Arlo's other (and more recent models) this should be familiar. It's smooth, white and has a familiar "extruded oval" shape. The front face where the camera lens sits is black with openings for an LED spotlight and IR emitters for night vision. It comes with the camera, a mount, screws/drywall anchors, a battery, and a charging cable (indoor use only). Initial Setup ================================= Setup is easy and they'll want you to use the app (Arlo Secure) to do it. I actually installed the battery first (push the button on the bottom of the camera to slide out the internals), so if you need to start over, just pop it out again and close it. Install the app, fire it up, and follow the directions. Basically you'll be logging in (or creating a new account) and adding your new device. Tip: It will use whatever WiFi network your phone is currently configured for to connect the camera, so if you have a separate WLAN set up for cameras/surveillance, make sure to join that before completing the setup. Once that's done, the app will display a QR code that you'll hold in front of the camera to confirm. Alexa and Google will have no problem working with this camera, but apparently Apple HomeKit support was removed on this specific model! Once that was done, I gave it a name (Porch) and set it up next to a Ring Indoor Stick Up cam so I could compare. Performance ================================= It was easy to see that the resolution and field of view were immediately better on the Arlo Pro 5S compared to my Ring cam. 2k vs. 1080p doesn't sound like much of a difference, but also the FOV (160 vs. 130 degrees diagonal) helped me see more. The dual-band WiFi (again, better than my Ring) helped ensure solid streaming whenever I wanted to check in on the live view. Additionally, going "live" and speaking through the camera to have a conversation was a bit better than expected. Sure, there was some delay, but it wasn't terrible! Night vision via infrared was fine - the resolution bump helped the picture quality over my Ring cam. The "Color Night Vision" utilizes a spotlight LED to illuminate the area which really helps in low light. Again, I don't have that option on the Ring Stick Up cam, so it was nice to see here. Within the app, the first thing you'll see is you should sign up for a monthly plan for advanced features. The cheapest plan for a single camera is 4.99/month, but unlimited cameras will run you 12.99/month. That gets you up to 4k recording stored for up to 30 days, smarter motion detection features, and more. There are even more feature-rich and expensive options as well. There's a great chart on the Arlo website showing what you get at each level. After setting that up (or skipping it for now), you will see the usual device/camera options like setting up motion zones for alerts, filtering alerts, adjust motion/audio-detection sensitivity, and more. Power Management is also an option since the most efficient "Best Battery Life" mode can let this camera go for up to 8 months without charging the battery, by only recording snapshots when motion is sensed. When you need to charge your camera's battery, you'll have to pop it out of the mount and connect the magnetic charger to it. This should be done indoors as Arlo sells a separate "outdoor rated" charging cable. Conclusion ================================= Ecosystem is everything. If you're fully in the Ring camera camp (like me), it'd be hard to find a home for this camera even if it's that much better than some of my existing ones. Having said that, this is a great addition to someone who has an Arlo secure (multiple cameras, security system) setup in their home. You're getting a high-resolution, place-anywhere camera with solid connectivity (thanks dual-band WiFi) and tons of configuration options (though many behind a paywall). For those that love their Apple HomeKit enabled devices, this camera isn't for you.

Best camera I’ve found, but a few caveats
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the white three-camera set of Arlo 5S Pro cameras with spare batteries and a charger 5-15-24. They replace some 18-month-old Eufy 2C Pro units with rapidly diminishing capability. The Arlo setup was difficult until my base unit arrived, and then it was a snap. Outside of the issue of where to store video, I have these observations: 1) the clarity of the Arlo cameras is far superior to Eufy. 2) Once you have figured out how to reach folks on the phone at Arlo getting help seemed OK. They constantly follow up. 3) the Arlo software is balky, but you can, indeed, selectively delete multiple clips via the phone app by swiping left-to-right on one, then marking those you want to ditch. Otherwise, you are left having to bulk delete all your recordings you do not save. My plan is to download what I want to keep permanently into my IOS photos, then delete either as marked blocks on the phone or all unsaved. It just takes some getting used. Finally … 4) understand the following — the 3-unit package deal is a special purchase from Arlo for Best Buy. It comes only with the “theft proof/resistant base.” If you want another base, you are out of luck. I was able to disassemble the unit (11/16 deep socket extracts the mounting nut) but standard round threaded mounting posts appear not to work with this special-buy unit. These are white. If you want black, you must pay extra. Knowing now how to disassemble the base from the housing, I am going to buy some Pro 4 silicone covers for my new cameras for weatherproofing (I hope) and making them blend in to the dark wood of my townhouse where these will be mounted. As for the base, rather than buying expensive black ones from Arlo, a little spray paint ought to do the trick. I notice that Arlo is now dropping the price on black 5S cameras so they may get down to near what BB is charging, but you would also need to buy the charger and spare battery/ies. I have not had these long enough to comment on the battery life, but having a charger and the ability to make a quick change out helps. I will have one camera as a spare as I will use the others to monitor the front and rear of my townhouse. I will later be exploring the solor charger or hard-wired power.

Only downside is the mount. I wish it allowed for the Arlo to move around a bit more prior to tightening the holder. You can only mount flat against a wall.

Great, well rounded cameras
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a fan of this brand of camera. I bought my first set of an earlier model in 2016, and I must admit, after trying a few other brands, the app for these is one of the better UIs for browsing events. I can scroll back through all the clips for 30 days (I have that level of subscription). The option to select a date on a calendar vs just scrolling up for minutes is handy too, as I can quickly go to a specific date. The clarity is very good on these (2K) and I like the "color night vision" option. I bought some of the solar panels in conjunction with these to keep the batteries fully charged as well as extra batteries and chargers to use in the 3 I do not have solar panels hooked to. Now, in winter, the batteries drain faster due to the temps (these are litium-ion after all), but they usually last me 5-6 days with LOTS of activations over 24 hours. My one in a less active area lasts 9-10 days in cold temps. Warm temps the solar ones have been recharged all summer and I only replace the others maybe once every 2-3 weeks. If I had to criticize one thing about these, it's the way to release the camera to swap the battery. You use a small allen wrench to turn a screw 1/4 turn and it releases a catch that is supposed to partially eject the camera maybe 1/2" or so so you can pull it out by hand. I have 2 that take me tapping on the side of the housing until it slides out enough so I can use my finger nails to pull it out. I plan on trying some silicon dry lube the next time I replace the batteries in those to see if that helps. I also had an issue with 1 of the cameras getting some moisture in the housing, but I took it down for a week and left it in the house and it dried out. When I put it back out, I used a piece of pipe insulation over the top and slid the edge out about 1/2" past the front of the lense to keep rain off that area and it has worked fine since. I planned on buying a few of those silicon birdhouse covers for them to give them all that same lip to cover the front edge. The other 5 have not had any issues however. Arlo also can be integrated with scripts on IFTTT.com to help automate some things too. Things like texting you an alert when a battery is low, linking the cameras to your Alexa device to tell it to arm/disarm the cameras,or set up a geo-fence so when you leave home, it automatically activates the cameras. The company has provided the site a few applets for use.

Powerful Little Camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera is extremely clear. I can see a crystal clear picture down my driveway and across the street. At night I like the spotlight option and being able to turn it off/on. My backyard is extremely dark so even though the night option works in some parts of my yard, but the nightlight makes viewing much easier.

Good, but the resolution is lacking
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a camera to monitor the street in front of my house. This camera met some of the requirements but fell short in a couple of key areas. The hardware feels solid. The battery did not come installed and I had to look up an online video to find out how to install the battery - it was not included in the instructions. After that, setting up was easy. The connection to my internet was trouble-free. I like that the Arlo Secure app gives you the option to personalize the dashboard. I can see where this would be extremely helpful if you had several cameras. In my case, with one camera, I was able to bring the video into my landing page. The color is excellent - true representation. The resolution is where I have the biggest complaint. For my property - a very narrow yet long plot of land - the resolution was insufficient to make out a license plate on a vehicle entered my driveway, about twenty-five feet away. It does not provide the minimum pixels-per-foot for license plate or facial recognition. The ability to see color at night is a convenience that I appreciate. I do have exceptionally good lighting which helps with this feature. The field of vision is adequate for capturing everything happening in front of my house. The spotlight is a nice feature, but unnoticeable in my yard because of my regular lighting. Linking the camera to Alexa was quite easy. All I had to do was open the Alexa app, authenticate my Arlo account, and approve the linking of the two accounts. My biggest concern usually with such a wireless camera is battery life. Starting with a full charge, it has been running now for over two weeks and the battery level is at 82% - this is very impressive. Since I must use a ladder to climb up to remove the battery for recharging, this is a splendid feature. However, it is not enough to overcome the low resolution in my application. It may work for you if you want details at about 10-15 feet, but beyond that, you will need to spend more and get a higher resolution, outdoor camera. Add to that the fact that the charging cable is proprietary (not a standard USB cable), and that Arlo is pushing you to a subscription for the better app features, and you have another device looking to rope you into recurring monthly revenue for them, recurring subscription spending for you.

AMAZING SYSTEM
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We were shopping for a new security camera system for our home. We had narrowed it down to 3. I had been reading reviews on all 3 systems. The reviews on this system are really pretty good, so we decided to purchase a system and see how it performed. From what the store setup advertised, the image quality looked good. We got home and began installation. I was truly amazed on how simple the entire installation process was, from camara mount to app install to viewing took roughly 60 to 70 minutes. The clarity of the camaras was even better than in the store. The ease of set up and use is the easiest I have ever done. I now have 6 camaras and 1 floodlight camara. I will be purchasing 4 more floodlight camaras. If I could give more stars I would. In my opinion this has the best quality for the price. Would I recommend this ABSOLUTELY.

Great outdoor wireless camera
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a wireless camera, and this was easy to install above the front door. Make sure it's charged, setting it up in the arlo app is quick and easy. The picture you see in the app is very clear. Nite vision is also good. I'm waiting to see how long the battery lasts, I'm inclined to get an extra battery and charger. That will make it easier when it's time to change battery instead of recharging the same one.
