Skeptical about the monthly service.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Heavy and solidly constructed for its small size, its been two days now and the battery is at 46%. Clear daytime picture with excellent zoom capabilities. Worthless in most nighttime situations because although it has pretty good night vision we can't figure out how to turn it off and if there is any type of light (i.e. a distant street light, home lamp post, porch light, etc. etc.) it blinds the picture and you can't make anything out. Although the instructions were straight forward it was very difficult to set up, mainly because it took hours of trying to get the camera to properly SEE the bar graph on my phone on their website as required. Most objectionably is that three quarters of its advanced features are only available if you subscribe to their monthly service for between five dollars a month and twenty dollars a month (the more expensive your monthly subscription the more features you get). Also it doesn't see through window screening very well, but then again only the better cameras are able to do that. And because of were the mount attaches, it cannot be stood up sturdily, thus it needs to be mounted by screwing in the mounts to a wall etc. etc. and then screwing in the camera to the mount, which is not ideal for a piece of equipment that has to be disconnected often and recharged. Hence it is a very Plain Jane camera for the expensive price with what you get without paying the extra monthly fee.

Arlo Pro 5S performs poorly in online live view
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Reviews: My "Arlo Pro 5S 2k" Update, after some three months of usage. I love the vibrant color when night-time viewing in relatively bright light. I don't use the camera's spotlight. It is convenient to have the battery-powered camera, to which I have attached Arlo's A/C power cable. The app is rather well put together; and it provides access to many features. Here are my two major problems with this camera: (1) This camera simply cannot stream live view via a browser for more than twenty minutes at a time. If you want to regularly live stream for such lengths of time, then don't buy this camera. When I am home, I much prefer to use my large monitor to live view, i.e., instead of the much smaller screen of a phone or tablet. I use two other monitors for my two Nest Outdoor camera, which are almost invariably in "live view" mode. (2) There is not feature to delete multiple files of the video feeds that the camera automatically records/captures, and stores over a period of time; instead, you must select a file, then select the "Delete" command, and finally hit a button to confirm the desired deletion. You must go through this three-step process for each video file that you want to delete. (2) If you value your time, don't purchase Arlo Pro 5S unless you are willing to spend a lot of time deleting the automatically captured videos motion feeds. Most other camera manufacturers provide users with an options to perform individual file deletions, or to perform multiple deletions. I contacted Arlo; the techs claimed that too many customers had complained about their having mistakenly deleted files that they had, after-the-fact, decided that should have not deleted. Well, Arlo ought to accommodate BOTH multiple and individual deletions; instead, Arlo causes more responsible users to waste much time because they currently only have the ability to delete a single file at a time, using a three-step process. WOW! For example, if a user usually has to delete more that ten files per day, it really results in a lot of wasted time and effort, especially over a long period of time. As to NUMBER ONE above: When using the Arlo camera app itself, you can usually uninterruptedly live stream for at least three hours at a time. I have used 1GB WiFi, with an extender placed approximately nine feet from the front entry door. Above the top of the outside door frame is the camera.. However, if you want to access live view via a browser, then it is extremely short-lived and erratic upon each attempt. A major problem is the length of an uninterrupted live-view session is highly unpredictable. Namely, initially, it may average approximately 20 minutes. Then, live view automatically ends. This means that you must once again attempt to enter into live-view mode. And, if you are lucky, for any next two or three repeated attempts to enter live-view mode, you are able to enter live view for maybe 10 or 15 minutes, at the most. However, after using up the first four or five attempts at live view, any additional attempts at accessing live-view mode will each result in a substantially lower amount of time during will live-mode will work, e.g., 1 to 5 minutes upon each such attempt. And, after those intial four or five attempts have been used up, you can no longer CONTINUOUSLY use that SAME browser to access live view. YOU MUST LOG INTO YOU ARLO ACCOUNT USING A DIFFERENT BROWSER. At some later point in time (e.g., 30 minutes) you can revert to using your original browser, and begin the entire cycle once again! i have suffered through many hours-long periods of time where I necessarily had to methodically ALTERNATE among the latest versions of Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Firefox. I contacted Arlo tech representatives several times about this problem. Almost invariably, I was told that this was a "known issue," which Arlo was working to resolve. This is hogwash. I have worked decades as a software developer and database analyst. Arlo had to have know about this issue from early testing of the product. I also use two Google Nest Outdoor cameras, none of them exhibit this problem when using a browser for live view. Especially the Nest cameras will display uninterrupted live view for days at a time!

Great continued evolution of the Arlo series
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using Arlo cameras since 2017. All my cameras now are the Pro 3, 4, and now 5. My needs are pretty simple. I have around 8-9 cameras in various locations inside and outside my home. Certain cameras record when motion is detected any time, and certain cameras record when motion is detected only at night, and certain cameras are simply there to be viewed when away from home to check up on the house or my dog. For me, the arlo system meets these needs perfectly. I wanted something wireless with reasonable battery life that's also reliable. The cameras are reliable through a wide range of weather - rain, snow, high heat, extreme cold. Once it cools below zero they sometimes say it is too cold, but we're talking below 0 F; batteries don't function well at those temperatures. Generally on the most active cameras the battery lasts around 1 month, while the cameras that don't get used much the battery lasts 4-6 months. To me, this is great. Speaking of batteries, the 5 uses the same batteries as the other cameras I have. The new Low Power mode of the pro 5 should extend that battery life if its a frequently used camera. The newer cameras, including this Pro 5, do not need a base station and can connect directly to Wifi which is nice for new users. I do have a base station from my other cameras. It's centrally located in the house and has great range with the cameras. Usually the cameras connect with no trouble. I have had occasional issues with initially pairing a camera, but this pro 5 immediately paired when following the App instructions. That said, I have never had a camera in 6 years become unpaired from the base station. If the battery is dead and replaced, they always connect right away. The reliability is great. The Pro 5 has improved video quality over previous cameras, a low power mode where it takes pictures instead of video (great feature if needing battery savings), as well as dual band wifi which allows the camera to connect via the 5ghz band to a wifi network. If the camera is close enough to the router, this will give a more reliable and faster signal, but farther from the router the camera can fall back on the standard 2.4ghz which still works well. Since setting up my Pro 5, I have had no problems and the battery life is doing great as well. For a new user, the Pro 5 will make a great purchase, and for an existing system owner, it'll fit right in.

Arlo Pro5S is awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great little camera. Its faster recording then Pro4. Video feeds are better quality. Motion is detected better. Night vision works great. Really this is good camera. Must have subscription though. No more free recordings. But you get a lot for that subscription. I totally recommend it. New App can be better and I think over time it will become even better and more user friendly. Watch for Arlo special sales to save a lot on new cameras. If I had to choose between Pro4 and Pro5S I would definitely choose Pro5S.

Premium Security At A Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo Pro 5 is everything you love about the Pro 4 plus better battery life, better low light imaging, and dual band WiFi. The new sensor provides both better daytime video and color night vision using the spotlight. Although the resolution is the same as the Pro3 and Pro4 cameras, the image quality seems better. My installation is a mix of Arlo security lights, Pro3, and Pro4 cameras, along with a old Pro2, all connected to an Arlo Smart Hub. The Pro2 was finally being retired in favor of the new Pro5. Setup was easy, delete the old camera, add a Pro 5 camera, and decide how to connect it. Due to the location, I opted to add the Pro5 directly to my wifi network rather than the Arlo hub. Video quality is excellent, with good color saturation. The full duplex audio is also clearer and the latency(lag) seems better, although that might be due to the direct connection. In addition to the better battery life, there is a new power saver mode that will take a series of snapshots rather than full video. The downside of the Arlo system is that you really have to have a monthly plan with Arlo to get full utility. The basic plan adds 30 day video storage in the cloud, various object and motion detections, audio detection, auto tracking and zoom, activity zones, notifications and some other capabilities. While I find the cost quite reasonable, it does need to be figured into the overall cost. Overall, the Arlo Pro5 camera really is the gold standard for wire free security cameras. Arlo does provide regular updates to the app and seems to be actively expanding their capabilities. As a starter or an addition to an existing system, the Arlo Pro5 is well worth your consideration.

A fantastic addition, and now my primary camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've gone through a few security cameras, but this one is my new favorite and checks all the boxes for me. To be frank, the number one thing I like about the camera is that I don't really need to subscribe to a service to really use it, although there is a trial of the Arlo Secure service if you need it. But even just out of the box, I found the camera easy to mount, simple to use in the app, pretty versatile, and well thought out. The picture quality is really good, but you can make it lower to save bandwidth and power. There's an option to speak through it as well. I think the feature I like the most is the spotlight that can be set to turn when when the camera senses movement (the type and location of which you can specify). The field of vision is also quite good: from where it's mounted, I can see from the front door all the way to the garage. I currently have the camera set to record video whenever it detects motion, and these events are stored as video files that I can see directly on my phone. The software also has an Alexa Skill, so I can view the Camera's live feed on a separate device. The only problem I rant into was the initial setup. The camera requires a 2.4GHz wifi network to set up. Once the setup is complete, it can actually work on a 5GHz system. But it took FOREVER for me to finally get the phone app to connect to the camera - something to do with my mesh network. After some finagling, I was finally able to make the connection and complete the setup. Since then, I've had no problems with it.

One of the best cameras on the market
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have previously had Arlo cameras from a few years back, so I had already had some expectations as to the performance of the Pro 5S 2K camera. For testing, this camera was put outside in order to track the comings and goings of my particular street. When paired with a trial plan (I'm intending to go after the $5/month individual camera plan), Arlo's AI is in full swing. The camera quite successfully is able to tell the difference between a car and a person, which makes the snapshot of video clips a lot easier to manage through. And it is true -- you don't get the AI aspects of object recognition unless you're a part of one of Arlo's camera plans. Regarding the hardware itself, it certainly appears comfortably weather-resistant, and while you could install the device where it'll directly be impacted by rain, I've chosen to keep it under the relative protection of a roof. Also, if you don't enable color-based night vision, you'll save a lot more battery life, because color-based night vision invokes a pretty bright light (visible in the marketing materials for the camera), which will drain the battery rather significantly. The good news is that a recharge only takes a couple of hours, and a secondary battery is available for purchase. Overall, I'd go with this camera if I had a choice in security systems.

Connects without a base station
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo, my favorite home camera system. LOVE THESE Cameras but there are still features I wish they would improve. For instance. This camera is great that you can connect it to your home wifi without needing to be connected to a Arlo Base Station. BUT……… it has to be a 2.4 Ghz network. Seriously? Yes. Arlo, please make these work on 5Ghz. I had to re do one of my home networks to broadcast on 2 Ghz just so I could get it working. I spent maybe 30 min trying to get this connected the first time because I didn’t have a 2.4 Ghz network set up at home. Once I re configured my home network I was able to connect the camera to the Arlo app and was up and running. I have a 4K Ultra already connected to a base station for the font of the house. I added this 2K camera to the other side of the house and I can barely tell the difference in the video quality. These cameras are awesome. This one has a small spot light that lights when you want it to. This is nice for nighttime viewing or lighting a pathway when motion is sensed. Another area I wish Arlo would improve is make these wireless cameras work with the Apple HomeKit. ALL my other Arlos connect to the base station and through the base station I can connect them to my HomeKit and watch the cameras on my TV *through my AppleTV). But this stand alone camera is not compatible (at least not that I can find) with homekit since it doesn't’ go through the base station. So I really like that it doesn't have to be connected to a base station, this allows me to get it in different places in the home that only have wifi signal but might be further away from the base station. But I can’t view it on my TV through HomeKit like I can all my other arlo cameras. So you need to use the Arlo app on you mobile device to view the feed. I understand the two factor authentication but it is a bit annoying to have to use it so fifteen when logging in. Or when I log in a different device (say my iPad), I get logged out of my phone. Arlo, come on, please let us be on multiple devices especially if it wont work with Home Kit. Love the camera, and all the features. There are just a few ways I wish Arlo would make these even better.

Love The Resolution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I currently own the Arlo Pro 4XL system and needed another camera for my backyard. As with every technology it is continuously being improved so I was curious to try out the new Arlo Pro 5s 2K camera. Install was very simple. Charged the battery, mounted/installed, connected to my wifi and hub and away we go. I also noticed an upgrade to the Arlo app which is even more user friendly then the last version. I really like the the new home page/dashboard and the ability to personalize which cameras or widgets are highlighted. Back to the the camera...First I want to note how clear this camera is. I definitely noticed a lot sharper sharper details in my videos especially as I zoomed in which is a nice feature when trying to capture a face or a license plate. The range of view is consistent with my other cameras which is great. One of the other benefits is the extended life from the batteries which is always a bonus. I have yet to test the longevity, but feel this is just another benefit to upgrade when looking for new security cameras. So far so good. Love the new camera and would recommend when looking to upgrade or invest in a new wireless security system.

Nice Upgrade!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera was a nice upgrade from my old, out of date camera. Set up was easy and fairly quick. The 2K resolution is crystal clear and the color night vision is quite impressive. The built-in spotlight is a game-changer. It's bright enough to deter any would-be intruders, and it's motion-activated, so you don't have to worry about it staying on all night. Plus, you can customize the motion detection zones to focus on the areas that matter most to you. Two-way audio is another fantastic feature. I've used it to scare off package thieves, have a chat with delivery drivers, and even just to say hi to my dog when I'm away from home. The sound quality is excellent, and it's a fantastic way to interact with whoever's at your doorstep. One of the standout features for me is the Arlo app. It's intuitive and user-friendly, allowing me to check the live feed, review recorded footage, and customize settings all from my smartphone. The free cloud storage for the last 7 days of footage is a huge plus. If you need more storage, they have subscription plans.

These cameras will never get better.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Eh - Nothing special. Same documentation incorrect. Same problems with previous Arlo cameras. Really nothing new unless you want their security platform. These types of cameras may add features etc but at their core they will never get any better at detecting someone. Distance will always be limited to ~25 feet.

Typical camera, nothing fancy.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera was easy to install and has a great picture quality. It works well with my other Arlo cameras. The only negative thing is that I found it difficult to figure out how to make the siren function. There were no clear instructions so there was a lot of time searching online. I thought it was a tad pricey when compared to other cameras but I wanted an arlo with a siren so …. This was my only option

Easy to install, use and great video
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have Arlo’s basic spotlight camera from a few years ago that still works well so I was excited for this new updated wireless camera. And this does not disappoint. The set-up was quick and easy since I already have the app installed. I did have to update the app to finish installing this new camera. And boy, I love the new updated app. It’s easy to access the dashboard, the feeds from both cameras or I can filter the feed for one camera if I choose. I use it on the tabletop for a few days to watch and familiarize myself with it then I mounted it. Mounting was quick too, it’s comes with 3 screws for the wall. The mount screws into the back of the camera. When it needs to charge, I would just unscrew the camera from the mount and screw it back in. It offers 2-way communication so I speak from the app to the person on the other end. Sound was clear. It has a cool feature call auto zoom and tracking. The night vision works well, even in complete darkness, you can out what’s happening. You can set the sensitivity for motion and sound levels to help with battery usage. I’m curious to see how the long the battery lasts. I hope it does last few months because it’s mounted up high where I need to climb a ladder to remove it to charge. It offers a subscription plan like many other manufacturers do these days but you get the basics without it, like live streaming, motion and sound alert. The video quality is great and it has a nice wide view of the area it’s facing. The only thing I’m not happy about it that there is about a 25 second delay with me receiving notification of detected motion and sounds. If there was an intrusion, every second counts so that is disappointing. I hope there’s a way to fix that. I might look up info in their community section or try to reach out to Arlo. But otherwise, it works very well.

Great camera except for NO HOMEKIT
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is hard review to post. My very first smart camera system was two Arlo cams and a hub probably over 10 years ago, and they are still going strong even though Arlo no longer supports them. I have always thought Arlo was top of the line for smart security cameras, until this one. I actually decided to get this one in case one of the originals does stop working. Plus, I had a front area of my home that I had wanted more coverage of for a while. Let me just get right to the point of why such a quality camera only gets a 3 star rating. I was more than shocked when this arrived to find out it doesn’t support Apple HomeKit. Every Arlo camera I have has native HomeKit built in (through the hub). This one not only doesn’t have native HomeKit, but because it directly connects to WiFi, there is no way to even connect it to my Arlo Hub. I thought I had to be missing something, because why would Arlo not add HomeKit to this camera. I researched it online and sure enough, no HomeKit. Strike 1. Next on the list, was the subscription requirement. I wasn’t surprised because I have a 2-3 year old Arlo Essentials camera that I have to maintain a subscription for. The subscriptions aren’t mandatory, but the cameras are pretty dumb without one. A subscription plan is required for activity zones, specific detection (package, person, animal, etc.), and more. With two cameras now requiring a subscription, I guess I will be taking out a multi-camera plan once the trial is over. Contrary to our 2nd home which has 11 cameras, none of which requires a subscription, this is a real bummer. Strike 2. Fortunately, that is all the strikes. The camera is otherwise Arlo brand ease and quality. Setup was less than 5 minutes, excluding installation, using the updated Arlo App. The app handled virtually everything, and it was on my WiFi network and connected in no time with little effort. I was a little surprised at how long the initial charge took. Several hours to get to 100%. Obviously, I can’t speak to the battery life yet, but based on the other Arlo cameras, don’t expect any surprises there. However, I don’t remember their periodic charges taking that long. The image quality is great, as is the 160° view. So far the activity zones appear to be much more accurate than other cameras I’ve used. The automatic (but programmable) spotlight is a great deterrent, plus love the color night vision as a result of the spotlight. If you just want a smart camera and don’t mind paying for a subscription, this is a great camera. However, if you want a camera that is an integral part of a HomeKit smart home, this isn’t your camera.
