Great Cameras with added Security in Mind

I wanted a security system with cameras for a property, as we’ve been having issues with fly dumping and needed to capture evidence. I wanted a system that worked more as a security system than just a camera system, with the option of having a paid service if I need it down the line without needing additional equipment. This way it could catch any other issues like fire or theft and alert me to them. I saw that Arlo had the new Pro Camera system, in a 3 pack with an additional battery which was perfect for what we wanted. Pros: - Simple to set up and install. - Rechargeable Batteries. - Optional Professional Monitoring Plans available. Cons: - App is not the easiest to navigate. Setup: To start, Arlo setup a QR code right on the inside of the box to scan or search for the Arlo Secure app in your app store. Then create a new account, following the step-by-step instructions to attach your device. The setup process went smoothly, including adding the other cameras after the initial account creation, with the app allowing you to save settings like WiFi Network details to help speed up adding additional devices. I had no issues setting up all the cameras. Beyond the app, the wall mounts and hardware are all included. The setup is straightforward, if you’ve ever attached anything to the wall with a wall anchor. Just create an appropriately sized pilot hole for the anchor, tap the anchor in with a hammer, then screw in the wall mount with the screw. Simple, and worked with little effort. Software: My biggest complaint about the Arlo Cameras is the Arlo Secure App, it’s not very intuitive. The layout isn’t very intuitive as it’s setup as a security app first and camera monitoring 2nd. The default tab when opening the app is Dashboard that offers controls to set the system status to Arm Away, Arm Home, or Standby. At first this seems to be all that the Dashboard tab does, but if you go to the plus sign at the top and add a Widget, you can add each of your device feeds to this tab, making it an enhanced version of the device tab. I was a bit confused at first, because the camera I just setup didn’t display on the dashboard but after messing around I found that I could add it when selecting add a widget. I wish by default all cameras were added to the Dashboard tab, or a prompt offered some guidance on how to manage the Dashboard tab. On the bottom of the app are tabs for Dashboard, Feed, Emergency, Devices, and Routines. Dashboard is a system status & summary tab that allows you to set the status of the system and customize views of your cameras. You can add additional device feeds as Widgets to this page. This is not very clear in the initial setup, which as I mentioned took me a while to figure out. Feed displays timeline of the events along with a snapshot of any activities captured. These snapshots can be clicked to take you directly to the video for review. This part of the app is very useful, as its basically the Notifications you’ll receive. Emergency is where you can setup the Emergency Response settings, such that when an emergency occurs, you can quickly trigger a call to the proper services to get them to your location quickly. This can be a very convenient feature. Devices is where all your devices, cameras usually, will display in a list feed. You can scroll down to enable live views of each and access additional settings. For indoor cameras, if you enable Standby mode, you will have to login each time you want to view or edit the camera settings as a privacy setting. Depending on the device, different settings will be available, but for most there are volume controls, recording (for 2-Way Audio), Video Recording, Photo, and Spotlight. The last tab is Routines which help create automations based on the status of the overall system. This allows you to set different behaviors for each device when you arm the system in Away, Home, or Standby modes. Additionally, the smart Automations allow you to configure behaviors based on Schedules or Geolocation such that when you Leave or Arrive, the cameras behave differently. This is convenient feature really helps reduce the manual steps of arming or disarming the system. Subscriptions: Arlo offers an optional subscription plan that provides enhanced features like cloud storage, smart detection, or professional monitoring. As I mentioned initially, I might down the road need to get a security system anyway, so having these cameras to monitor plus be the security system checks off 2 needs with 1 device. The subscriptions have 3 plans: per camera for $9.99/mo, unlimited cameras for $19.99/mo, or Premium for $29.99 per month. All plans can also be purchased as Annual plans, which reduces the price by $2 to $5 per month depending on the plan. If you want to completely avoid the subscription plan, you can also go the route of local storage with the Arlo SmartHub which will allow you to store your video data locally for longer periods of time. For now, I’m not going this route, but it is nice to have the options if I decide I need to retain the videos longer in the future. Cameras: The overall Camera quality is very good, each consist of an outer shell and inner camera that can be separated by pressing the button on the bottom, this is how you setup the camera and replace the battery. Additionally, there is a covered USB-C port for charging or wired power. On the back of the shell is the wall mount attachment. The camera has a resolution of 2K with a large 160-degree field of view, this is perfect for capturing an entrance or back gate. The camera captures recordings in 24 fps. The captured images and audio are very clear, I had no issues seeing or hearing what was happening in the back alley. In fact, I was able to capture a few audio clips of someone realizing there was a camera, with hilarious dialogue. Even in tough conditions like low light or bad weather, I found the Arlo Pro 6th cameras were able to clearly see and record what was going on. The night vision has a 25ft distance, but if you’re in a well-lit area that distance can be a lot more. I was easily able to capture video at night down the alley way, at least 50ft if not more, and with the 2K resolution I could zoom in to see further. The built in Spotlights were helpful for seeing color at night and surprising unexpecting people who shouldn’t be there. Connectivity: I found that the cameras all maintained a solid wireless connection, though this will heavily rely on your wireless network more than the cameras. I had no issues streaming the cameras video to my phone when on or off the same network. There was some obvious latency, but only 2-3 seconds which was most noticeable when in the same room as the camera or when using the 2-way audio. The only issue I encountered was that every so often, the cameras would have an issue with connecting the 2-way audio, such that it wouldn’t send audio from my phone to the camera. This wasn’t really an issue for me, as I just wanted to be able to record and view, but I think there’s something not working on my phone with the Pro 6th. Battery Life: It will be a while before I can confirm the 8 months of battery life per charge that is stated by Arlo, but so far, I’ve had the cameras going for about a week with only 3% to 4% battery consumed. The camera with more activity has consistently been lower. Your result will vary based on your situation and camera setup. For now, if I only need to charge the cameras 2 times per year, that would be great. I’m considering picking up the Solar Panel Charger, as that would eliminate needing to charge them at all plus does not require running a cable to the camera from a plug. For only ~$50 per solar panel, that’s a reasonable price to not have to swap out the batteries. Conclusion: If you are looking for a secure way to monitor your home or business, with the option to have professional monitoring such as theft or fire, the Arlo Pro 3 Cam Wireless 2K Security Cameras are a great option. They work with other Arlo system products, which helps create a custom solution for your needs. Additionally, whether you use the subscription or want a local storage solution with the SmartHub, there are options within the Arlo Products to meet your specific needs. The smart automation helps make setting your systems status a breeze, so you don’t have to adjust every time you leave or arrive. Overall, I’m very happy with the Arlo system, and will be adding more cameras to my setup over the next few months.

Regardless of if you’re worried about the future, living in a high crime part of town, or just want to be able to keep an eye on the kids from your phone while you’re at work this Arlo Security camera package should be able to fit your needs. Inside the box you get everything you need to get setup quickly other than a screw driver (or drill for pilot holes, which I highly recommend). This package arrived with three HD security cameras, four batteries, a two battery charger, hardware including wall anchors, camera mounts, a “Protected by Arlo” sticker for the window, and a metal sign to stick in your yard (do these even deter anyone?) which was a nice bonus but I don’t believe is necessary. The batteries are mostly charged but the setup, which is done through the Arlo app on your phone, recommends charging the batteries completely before installing and setting up. I found the charging process was about two hours give or take and I was ready to assemble everything. The app is pretty easy to follow, consisting mostly of entering wifi password, adjusting the camera, and how to install the batteries. Your phone will be how you view the live feed, saved recordings, adjust your detection zones, etc. It's mostly obvious what you’re doing although it took me a minute to realize the microphone turns on by default to talk through the camera and I imagine there’s ways to fine tune your detection zones and sensitivity to avoid false positives like the kids playing back and forth between two cameras. Picture clarity of the cameras is pretty top notch! You can clearly see everything even on the smaller phone screen which surprised me, I’ve seen some pretty grainy or washed out security videos in the past. The audio is really clear, both the speaker on the camera that allows you to talk to the other end as well as the audio its picking up. Each camera has a spotlight which is pretty bright but you can tone down the brightness in the app. In fact there’s a lot about the app which you can play with and experiment with to get the perfect setup for your home/business schedule. For instance, other than being able to make immediate adjustments like the microphone sensitivity, the brightness, and the detection zones you can also setup automated schedules with rules. For instance, you can let the app know that you leave for work at 8:15am Monday through Friday and are home from 5:00pm until bed at 11:36pm so that it will arm and disarm the system for you while you’re home to avoid false positives. Or you can control the mode manually at will. You can setup an emergency response for if you were to have an invader try to break into your home while you’re gone, you can set it to call a friend if you needed to have someone pickup a package after delivery…honestly there’s a lot of functionality in the app that its likely I’m not even using it to the fullest potential. I only have the basic free version but you can also subscribe to Arlo to get monitoring from their agents, save videos and screenshots to the cloud, and other bells/whistles to protect your home even better than with your own routines, schedules, and setup. Batteries are supposed to last 3 months before needing to be replaced but the battery levels I’m seeing are about 5-10 percent daily which is nowhere close to Arlo’s estimate. I also really got annoyed at the CONSTANT notifications I was getting on my phone every time a squirrel, mailman, passerby, or child came and went through the camera’s field of view. I could blame myself for being too sensitive and not setting up the camera the most efficient way possible and I’m sure with time I’ll be able to dial it in but buyer beware the first few days are going to drive you nuts! Not my most thorough review I’ve ever done because honestly there’s a lot of features and there was simply no way to go through everything and get good at it. I think this would be a good setup for at least a starter system but it seems to have enough going on that I could see myself using this for the foreseeable future. I’m actually thinking about getting another camera to get more coverage of the back and side yards and I know Arlo has indoor products as well. Give it a look, read other reviews, but I don’t see how you could go wrong with Arlo.

--- SETUP --- The box contents are 3 Arlo cameras, 4 batteries, 1 dual-battery charging station, an Arlo yard sign, an Arlo sticker, and camera mounts. This unit doesn’t have and doesn’t need an Arlo base like some of the earlier models. After a full charge of the batteries, simply follow the app instructions to insert them into your cameras, connect them to your WiFi network, and you’re ready to go. --- PERFORMANCE AND EXPECTATIONS --- Finding out that these 2025 model Arlo 6th gen cameras don’t require a base was an amazing feeling! I have used Arlo for security for a while now, but after my most recent move, I misplaced the base. Now, each individual camera has a WiFi connection and that is all you need to get yourself going. The app required an update after opening it for the first time. The update was fast on my high speed internet. After the update, I removed the older camera systems and added the new cameras. The app asked me to make sure I selected the correct cameras, and I like how it did it. It showed me how this new camera was different from the previous cameras, which is that these new cameras include a USB-C type charging port. After I made sure that I selected the right choice, it guided me through installing the camera’s battery, connecting it to my home WiFi, and showed me a preview of what the camera was seeing once it was ready. The camera itself also required an update, but again, that didn’t take long. The box only included screw mounts. I still had some magnetic mounts from a previous Arlo package I had purchased, and living in an apartment where screwing isn’t allowed, I use the magnetic mounts instead. My porch has two tall metal beams that hold up my upstairs neighbor’s porch. Using a tall ladder, I mounted the magnetic mounts onto the metal pole, and I placed the Arlo camera to the mounts. The corners of the cameras work great for these magnetic mounts. I was able to adjust the camera’s so that they protect my porch steps, as often, packages are dropped off there instead of the front door of my apartment. Even at night, I had a clear vision of who was walking near my porch. The view even extends to the parking lot, which is where I park my vehicle, so that was a bonus that I enjoyed. There are light sensors on the camera that turn on, but you can control that in the app. Using the app is great to customize your experience, including, but not limited to adjusting the battery life, if you want night vision to be in color or in black and white, and many more options. That is also where you can purchase a subscription for full protection. Subscription prices, at the time of review, are 9.99 for a single camera, or 29.99 for unlimited devices. Though the camera will function without a subscription, the subscription will give you more peace of mind by allowing you to alert emergency personnel through the app, and many more features. Overall, the Arlo system is a great security system for peace of mind. You can access the feed remotely from your phone, and it’s great to be able to communicate with delivery drivers from inside your home or remotely. --- APPROVAL --- I would most definitely recommend this system to any home, especially around the holidays, when more packages are delivered.

I've owned Arlo cameras for quite a few years. The advantages are that they are wireless and easy to install. Prior models offered 7 day free cloud storage. Unfortunately, the newer models do not, and require a subscription plan to view past recordings (not a deal breaker, as most cameras do these days). So far, so good with these new ones. They are still very simple to set up and install (with the added bonus that they do not require a hub as the old ones did. My old Arlo cameras started breaking one by one (the camera strip inside the base swears and tears rendering them useless) and, when I was down to only 2 cameras out of the 6 that I use on my property, I realized it was time to replace them. Best Buy offered a great deal- an extra battery along with a charging base (my old charging base does not accommodate the new sized batteries). This is definitely a major plus as you can simply pop in a charged battery when one of the cameras run low and charge the low battery independent battery independent of the camera itself. Overall, I am very happy with Arlo- they offer a reasonably priced wireless camera (for those not electrically inclined such as myself) that are very easy to connect and install. I took off one star for the necessity to subscribe to a paid plan (the cheapest one only allows for one camera which does not suit my set up) but, as I said, most security cameras do these days so there's not much getting around that.

I have been using this Arlo 2K Pro 6th Gen in an unorthodox way. Let's start with setup. 2 ways to charge this either with USB c directly into the camera or using the charger made for the batteries themselves. Good to have both options. It took about 4 hours to charge from about 40% with the battery with chargers. Charger can charge up to 2 batteries at a time. Quick change battery function on the camera is great feature. Setup via mounting is easy. Follow directions and you are mounted. Overall appearance is nice. Sleek Arlo white and black. App setup was super easy too. Follow the on screen directions and you are all in. I already had an Arlo account so I did not have to go through that. Ok so my unorthodox use of the camera is I have a rodent problem. Namely rats and mice. My wonderful neighbor decides to feed the birds and leaves their bird feeder out and the rats decide to pass through my yard to get to their yard and there you have it. I have already taken care of several of them but there is 1 that is really smart and I wanted to know where and how they were entering my backyard. So I placed these cameras around my yard and found the points of entry and exits. Anyway that is. Work in progress. But the Arlo did detect animal versus human pretty well. Also day and night quality is good. Focal point is pretty good too. Overall Arlo had done a good job with this next generation camera.

I’m really impressed with the Arlo Pro 3 (6th Gen). Setup was quick and intuitive — I had all three cameras connected and mounted in less than an hour. The 2K image quality is sharp both day and night, and the motion detection is accurate without too many false alerts. The battery life has been excellent so far, and the dual charging station makes it super convenient to keep a spare ready. I also like that it integrates easily with my smart home setup. The yard sign is a nice extra touch for deterrence. Overall, great build quality, reliable connection, and very user-friendly app. Definitely worth it if you want a simple, wireless, and high-performing home security system.

The Arlo Pro 3-Camera (6th Gen) set is an excellent wireless security system. The 2K HDR video is crystal clear, the 160° field of view covers plenty of space, and the night vision with spotlight works beautifully. Setup was quick, and the dual charging station makes battery swaps super convenient. I love that it connects easily with Alexa and Google, and the app is smooth for checking footage anytime. Overall, a reliable, high-quality camera system that gives real peace of mind!

    Disappointing Battery Life

The Arlo Pro 3-Cam 2k HDR Security Camera set is a very capable system loaded with tons of features and phenomenal video quality. Unfortunately, it falls short on battery life. I have been using plug-in security cameras for the last 8 years and I regret switching my system over to the Arlo Pro because the battery life is nowhere near what I thought it would be. PROs: 1) Install - Installation took around 5 minutes for each camera and I had everything setup and ready to go in less than 30 minutes. Arlo has made the setup experience virtually painless. 2) Video Quality - The Pro's 2k HDR resolution is crisp and shows any detail you could possibly need. 3) App / Features - What drew me to the Arlo ecosystem was their suite of features and range of customization I was missing from my old system. On the app, you are able to create custom event triggers like pushing notifications if you leave your garage open or it can recognize different people thanks to their AI integrations. The app has every feature you could possibly want. 4) Swappable Batteries - The Arlo Pro's have removable batteries that allow you to swap them in seconds by ejecting the camera from the housing. The kit comes with a charging doc and 4th battery that you can keep on standby so you experience minimal downtime. CONs: 1) Battery Life - Battery life is terrible for my use case. My household is very active and we see around 100 events triggered every day - this is fueled by kids coming and going with their friends. Within 2 days, one of my cameras showed 80% charge remaining. After 15 days, one camera is at 25% and the other that isn't triggered as much is at 44%. This is unacceptable. I understand we might trigger events more than the average user, but these results are even after I changed the video quality settings to be as low as possible - which defeats the purpose of investing in a "Pro" camera system. My cameras are mounted out of reach which means I have to pull out a ladder every time I need to change the battery. If you think I'm going to pull out my ladder every 2 weeks, think again. I decided to grab a solar panel thinking this would solve my issue - wrong. The battery on these cameras charge so slow that the solar can't out-pace the energy it's using. 2) Light - The spotlight on this camera is so small that it's almost pointless. I know Arlo is limited because of the battery, but lights a no brighter than the flashlight on your cell phone. FINAL THOUGHTS: I you don't have an active house like I do, I don't doubt you'd be able to get several months out of one battery. If you think you will have high event triggers, I would avoid this system. The only other scenario where I would recommend these cameras is if you mount them where you can reach them without needing a ladder.

I am a huge, huge, huge fan of Arlo. They have been my main source of security cameras for the last decade and I couldn’t be happier. Every time they come out with a newer model camera, the picture and video gets better and better. The sizes of the camera start to vary, but whether it’s an indoor camera outdoor camera once I said it, I forget it. So the size of the camera really doesn’t make a difference to me and the all white exterior used to bother me because of the exterior cameras getting so dirty but again once I said it, I forget it, even though I have to charge the batteries monthly. It’s a nuance that I’ve come to understand and it doesn’t bother me. This system though has the charging dock and I didn’t know what I was missing until I got this super easy to charge multiple batteries at one time so I will never have a camera that’s not being used because I can rotate the batteries and stay up and running at all time. Which a security system should be active. All continues to set the bar for security system

I love this brand and have never had any issues with their products — and that absolutely includes the Arlo - Pro Outdoor Security Camera (6th Gen, 2025 Release). The quality is excellent, and everything feels well-made and reliable. The charging station makes it incredibly easy to keep all three cameras powered without the hassle of constantly swapping batteries. I really appreciate how convenient and organized it keeps everything. The wireless setup was simple, and the installation process was straightforward. The cameras have a sleek, modern design that blends in nicely with our home’s exterior instead of looking bulky or obvious. The video quality is clear and sharp, both during the day and at night, which gives us real peace of mind. Being able to monitor our outdoor property from anywhere — especially while traveling — is extremely convenient. I also love getting instant notifications through the app. It’s reassuring to know I’ll be alerted right away if there’s motion or activity outside. Overall, this system has been dependable, easy to use, and well worth it for the added security and convenience.

So far I am very impressed with this Arlo security camera set. I’m able to place these strategically around the exterior of my house and see everything. It has been very helpful and has given me peace of mind knowing I can see what’s happening. I love that it connects with the Arlo app. It’s easy to pull up on my phone and quickly review footage. It keeps videos stored for about 60 days incase you need to look that far back. I also like that this can connect to my Google Home. Best of all I can open the app and just click live stream on each camera just to see what’s going on. Even if no motion is detected, I can check out the live feed. The batteries come a little charged, but it’s recommended to charge it to full max before setting it up. It came with an extra battery, which is great! I also like how the charge dock has 2 battery slots. It took about 2 hours for the batteries to fully charge. Time will tell when I have to recharge them. Setup was pretty standard. The cameras have a button on the bottom to release the camera from the case. You then put the battery in, press the sync button and connect it via the app. 2 of my 3 cameras connected pretty easily. One gave me some trouble and took a while to update. Motion detection is pretty good. I tested it a few times and I really like the sensitivity. I noticed a slight delay, but that’s standard and can be due to my WiFi. At night time, it displays a bright light to video. I like this. It’s powerful and acts like a flood lamp. I also love that I can purchase and add more cameras. I’m in a single story home and it’s about 2,400 square feet. The package comes with 3 cameras, so I had to be really strategic with the placement. I’ll probably purchase 2 more so I can maximize my coverage. Pros: Multiple cameras can be setup App capable Great price! Compact design Easy to setup Clear audio Clear video quality Dual charging station Decent battery Rechargeable batteries WIFI connection Wireless Works with Alexa, Google Home Motion detection Cons: Monthly plan Overall: You can’t find too many security systems that beat this. The price alone should get your attention. It’s wireless and battery operated, so you have a little more flexibility with your placement. Only ding might be a monthly fee.

This Arlo security system is fantastic. The setup was incredibly easy—I had all the cameras up and running in under an hour. More importantly, the video quality is crystal clear, day or night. I appreciate the reliable motion detection and the fact that I can monitor everything from the intuitive mobile app. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a hassle-free home security solution.

We have enjoyed having Arlo for home security, I like that we can easily take the batteries out to charge, and the camera quality is amazing, I also like that this is customizable as you go, we first got the Arlo doorbell camera and then this camera set to pair with it, the ease of being able to see what’s going on when we are not home has been great. Only downside is having a subscription to view any playback

I’m extremely happy with this product! The setup was quick and easy, and everything worked perfectly right out of the box. The quality feels premium, and you can really tell attention was put into the details. Performance has been excellent so far – reliable, consistent, and exactly as described. It’s been a great addition and definitely worth the investment. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for something dependable and high-quality. Great value for the price!

The Arlo camera has been great so far. The video is really clear, the motion alerts come in fast, and the app is super easy to use. Setup took just a few minutes, and the battery lasts way longer than I expected. Overall, it just makes me feel a lot more secure around the house.”

We were in the market for cameras for the outside of our home. We looked at several different ones and had a friend that has these and we liked the way they worked and the video quality. They’ve actually in the short time come in handy as they caught someone trying to come into our home through a window. Camera lit up and was able to get them to leave.
