Could not get the system to connect!! Tried every way that was given through box directions and info on the on-line blogs, etc. promptly returned. The battery system Arlo I bought last year worked for a while, but the batteries needed to be constantly replaced at $80 for two little cameras!!! Forget it! Dont buy!!

    Nice Camera

Got my arlo q in the mail today! I was very excited to get this camera I saw a commercial for this somewhere and was very interested. The packaging is nice easy to open but secure. Not to complicated. Camera is lighter then I expected but good quality. Unpackaging the camera was easy but now connecting it is a different story the camera light is showing blue which says its connected but in the app I don't see the camera. Took me about 30 min to finally get going. I would suggest if you encounter the same problem close the app and restart it. Now once it's started working it's a pretty nice system. The app has all the features you need. You can even turn off the blue light that gives away that there's a camera recording. You can also make your own mode and choose how long the recordings are, it goes all the way to 2 min of straight recordings. And you can also turn off the email and push notifications. They are kinda annoying if there's someone moving in the room. The two way speaker system is pretty cool works good. I'm sure if you use it with a burglar in your house you can scare them off . It's perfect for what I need, check on the kids and the security when my family isn't home. The only thing besides my connection issue earlier is I wish if maybe they can make it more secure all you have to do is reach back and unplug it once you spot it. I put mine on my mantel hiding behind some pictures. I'm thinking of getting another one for my front door since I got mine free from netgear friends and family.

    Excellent Arlo addition

Arlo Q is a great addition to the Arlo Smart Home security cameras. After using several other different brands (e.g, D-LINK, etc). Arlo is the best by far. Arlo Q's picture is great (1080p), great nigh vision and excellent in low light conditions, and I am impressed by how wide its viewing angle is. My previous D-LINK camera only had a very narrow sight compared to Arlo Q. In addition to be able to hear sound and send audio back, I highly recommend this camera.

We tried using these as baby monitors. The apps crash in the middle of the night constantly leaving you with no connection to your baby. Twice we have not received alerts when our kids were awake in their rooms.

Changed router having trouble. Arlo support is terrible. Camera is hot to the touch. I will tell everyone not to buy Arlo. Looks like Ring products are better. Switched router Ring had no trouble.

Very sorry I bought two of these cameras. The lag in the video is terrible. They constantly loose the picture. I wanted to use these as security cameras inside the house but now I just use them to keep on eye on the dogs.

    Powerful alternative to Dropcam

The Arlo Q came in a green box that screams simplicity. I took everything out of the box, and one of the first things I noticed was that the power cable was extra long. A nice feature that I wasn't expecting. Everything was plugged in and the LED lit up. The install and initial setup process was simple. I downloaded the Arlo app from Google playstore, launched it, and hit the New System Setup button. I followed the prompts, entered my wifi name and password, pressed the Sync button on the camera, and then held my phone with the generated QR code in front of the lens. After the confirmation beep, it asked to create a new account. I entered in my email/password, but after clicking continue, the app said I already had an account associated. After a little digging around, I found out that an account I had on my.netgear.com could be used with Arlo. Just a small bump in the road in an otherwise simple setup process. Once configured for my network, the Arlo Q immediately prompted to update the firmware - and I let it. I then poked around in the modes (ie arm/disarm), triggers (motion/sound), and rules (android notification/email/snapshots), and customized to my liking. The app I found extremely easy to use whether it is viewing a "live" stream or changing the mode. After using the camera for a while, there are several things I like: + Wide picture angle - much more field of view than expected + A clear picture + Night vision works really well - the infrared LED's cover the entire viewing area + The magnetic base is useful and the 6 magnets stick well to metal surfaces + The design of the base and freedom to swing/tilt/pivot + Arlo app (and the Arlo website) + Motion and sound detection + Long power cord + 7 days free of motion recordings + Easy to view recordings online through the app or webpage - broken down by day and time Some of the things I didn't like so much: - A "live" stream is delayed around 5 seconds. I don't think I could use this as a baby monitor because of this. If the app could connect directly to the camera when on the same network, I think this delay would improve. - Delays also occur when using the microphone or mute buttons on the stream - The infrared LED's are clearly visible at night (red tint) and might freak some kids out (hello 1984?) - No local storage; if you lose internet, I don't know that it would upload to the cloud once back online - Not designed for use outdoors Overall, I think this is a great product for the price (cheaper than other major competitors) and a simple way to setup a surveillance system inside your home. If you don't mind the delay, it would also be a great baby camera. I think Netgear hit a homerun with the Arlo Q; fix the delay issue and it would be a grand slam. Note: I received this Arlo Q for free as part of the Netgear First Look Review Program by providing my unbiased review.

    Great little camera

I bought this camera after doing lots of research. I chose this camera because of the quality of the video and because I can communicate throught it and save videos for free on the cloud if you do not have it recording all day. I only activate it when I leave or when it is time to go to bed. You can customize the settings and schedule it to record during certain times of the day or capture video as it senses movement or sound. I had to turn off the sound activation because it would start recoring everytime the noisy kids from the upstairs apartment jump or made a noise. I also turned the little light off the camera so that no one knows if it is recording by using the app. You wont be disapointed on this investment, soecially if you have kids. I have caught them doing things that they were told not to do like eating all the cheese sticks for lunch.

Great addition to the Arlo family

Overall this is a great addition to the Arlo lineup. I haven't tried competing cameras like the Nest Cam, Samsung's Smartcam or Simplicam, but the Arlo Q delivers perfectly acceptable video from my perspective and integrates seamlessly with Arlo's wire-free cameras, which I've used and enjoyed for months. The appearance of the Q is standard in the industry and, in my opinion, equals competing cameras' good looks (for a wifi security camera). Thankfully, placement of the Q is easy because the included usb to micro-usb cable that powers the Q is plenty long--I don't have exact measurements but in one location on top of a 5.5 foot bookshelf, the Q's cable had length to spare--and the device is visually unobtrusive (again, for a wifi security camera anyway). Setting the Q up was simple and Arlo's mobile app is easy to use. Motion and audio detection work well in my experience so far. My only critiques are 1) there is some delay between when you click the "view" button in the mobile app and when video starts to play and 2) there is a lag between what's going on in real-time and what you see in the app. Overall, a very nice wifi camera and one I would wholeheartedly recommend to people already invested in Arlo's system.
