Arlo has forgotten their customer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had the Arlo Pro 2 which I thought was decent but thought i'd upgrade to the Ultra given the advertised features. While features might improve with firmware updates my biggest gripe is the obvious disconnect Arlo now seems to have with their customer base. Those who choose Arlo want a high performance wireless solution. With the Arlo Pro2 and the Ultra some features require constant AC power.... so much for wireless claim (granted still an improvement over wiring thru your whole house). Arlo customers want a DIY solution to avoid paying a monitoring company or monthly subscription, yet Arlo intentionally tries to move its customers into a subscription plan. Prior to purchase I specifically contacted Arlo about the free 7 day cloud storage that they offer with the Arlo Pro cameras and they explicitly told me that the 7 day free cloud recording would continue with the Ultra... now it seems they've taken that away. Sure, they give you a 1yr free membership to their lowest subscription but then require you to pay more if you actually want 4k recording capability from your 4K camera or to access the advanced features advertised (and hence the reasons for the purchase). This is a complete bait and switch tactic and appears very dishonorable. Furthermore, they don't understand their average customers needs. If you buy a $1000 4 camera system (double the price of a hardwired 8 camera from Lorex or Nightowl from Costco) they send you 4 batteries at 50% charge with ONE STINKIN' CHARGING CABLE!!! Takes about 2hours to charge each battery... Then they want $50 for a 2 battery charging port (that no one carries currently) that should have been included with larger bundle packs IMO. Way to slap your customers in the face for buying more of your cameras at once. Seriously, does Arlo even use their own cameras? People buying security cameras have a reason for doing so, they dont want to waste a day charging their cameras with a single cable. Set up on my Arlo Pro2 was minutes.., the Ultra literally took me 2hours to set up because it couldn't identify its base station I was about to return it when it finally connected. Arlo, If you're going to advertise yourself as a plug-n-play, quick set up, DIY, 4K system then you should actually deliver on your claims. As to the product itself, as others have reported, you don't get 4k on your expensive 4k cameras unless you pay more. The color night vision is a marketing term--its black and white night vision until your spotlight comes on then it allows for color. The spotlight is decent but not enough to illuminate a backyard from a distance (especially if any backlighting). The magnetic charger cables are nice but the whole camera still has to be removed from their location in order to charge because the outside of the camera is what contains the magnetic charging connection. The lag is ridiculous ranging from 5 seconds to 17 seconds or no notification at all. Arlo's claim that the Ultra has better range and better battery life is not correct. My cameras and hub are in the same location as my Pro2's were and having multiple connection issues despite being up to date with the latest firmware upgrade that was suppose to fix this. The tracking doesn't work. The 180 degree field of view looks nice until you realized that that camera doesn't detect motion until its right in front of it. The magnetic backing of the camera has changed from the Pros and will no longer stick to metal so you have to use their connectors/bases. So my options seem to be either go back to Arlo Pro2 or because of the apparent disrespect/disregard for their customer base shun Arlo altogether and explore a different system... I'm leaning toward the latter now. Best buy return policy is 14 days... doubt Arlo will change enough in that time frame to convince me to keep the cameras but will hope for the best. Pros: Look cool, spotlight is nice integration, magnetic cable is nice (tho pointless since camera has to be pulled down anyway and no outdoor cables are included (also $50 btw)) Cons: Everything that matters

Not what they say
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo promises alot and delivers less! once again the apps for these wireless cameras can be the main problem. But the camera vision is limited.

||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.System is easy to set up and install, and works well. Recharging cameras is also simple. Very good access to recorded footage. Like the fact that recorded video goes to cloud and downloadable to your computer.

Too Much Extra Ongoing Payments to Utilize 4K
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These cameras started out really buggy since they were basically released too soon. After endless software updates, I think they are finally usable. The problem is that if you do want to use Arlo's cloud storage for 4K videos, you have to pay a lot for it. I know there is a way to utilize a physical SD card in the base for storage of 4K videos. But as one who really enjoyed the free 7-days of Arlo cloud storage they provided on my Arlo Pro 2 cams, the Ultra is a step back overall.

Excellent 4K system
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Met my expectations. This is a 4K system which gives you the ability to zoom in further without the pixelation of 1080p security cameras. Excellent battery life and local SD card storage!

Solid security camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Arlo Ultra security camera is a good solid camera; though it does have a tendency to jump at shadows. The base station requires a wired ethernet connection, and the base station comes with the required ethernet cable (congrats to the manufacturer for not making their customer go out and buy more stuff just to get it working). It’s made of glossy white plastic, and it will probably show wear in about five minutes. Within a minute of removing the protective plastic film, static cling drew a noticeable amount of dust and lint to it. The wireless camera is also made of glossy white plastic, and it comes with a really cool magnetic mounting base. I’ll confess, the base is probably my favorite thing about this camera. The camera charges via a proprietary charger (also magnetic). I’m not so keen on this as USB-C charging would have been appreciated (I tend to misplace proprietary cables when I don’t use them often, and I’m hoping that I won’t have to charge this camera too terribly often). Camera setup was relatively easy and painless. The hardest part was figuring out how to put the battery in the camera (note: there’s a button on the bottom of the camera to open it up that the instructions don’t seem to reference). The guided setup in the app is pretty straightforward. It has you plug in the base station, pairs your phone to it, and then runs updates. The updates took quite a while to download on my setup. After updating, you’ll then be guided to the camera pairing process. Things got a little rocky at this point. The camera kept losing connection, and it too required a long update as well. After updating, the camera connection seemed to stabilize nicely. The image quality of the camera is quite good. The camera also allows for 2-way communication between you and the person being recorded. It takes a few seconds to wake up when you’re accessing it remotely (far too long for the delivery guy to wait around for unfortunately), but it isn’t the worst I’ve seen in this regard. The LED spotlight triggers automatically when the camera is plunged into darkness. It also triggers when motion is detected in the dark. The motion detection is actually my one big complaint about this camera.. This camera is SO SENSITIVE to motion! I had it aimed at a blank wall, and I continued to get motion alerts on my phone every few minutes just from the way shadows would move across said wall. This camera is ultimately going to be aimed at a doorway, but I worry about getting so many false alerts. You are able to adjust the zone being monitored for motion in the device settings, but getting there isn’t all that intuitive, and I can’t find any settings to adjust the overall sensitivity. Arlo has a subscription service to monitor your camera and retain your videos for 30 days. Without this subscription, your videos are unmonitored and only stored for 24 hours. All in all, I think this is a pretty good camera. No, you probably won’t be able to use it to converse with a delivery driver in real time as they’re dropping off a package (the delay to dial into it is too long for that). Yes, you will be able to use it to see if your kids made it home from school okay or to catch your neighbor taking a package off your porch. I would recommend this product.

poor video, poor battery life, poor app
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Camera range limited at HD setting, cameras are battery powered and wireless connection. less than one month, battery power are already less that 30%, must get up on ladder to attach charging cord. Single led light will only light up within 15 feet. Would not recommend for the price.

Terrible do not buy this system !!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If it was stable and if it recorded and detected motion the way it should it would be a breat system . My cameras either stop recording or stop recording and need to be reset on a daily basis. I am not alone with this problem many others are complaining about it on the Arlo community and Arlo is staying silent about what they are doing about it.
