We have been having some suspicious activity happening outside our home and the camera I had just wasn't cutting it. The Arlo Ultra UHD camera has proven itself more than once. All the sketchy activity has stopped. The setup was supremely easy, it only needed a minimal 3 hours of charging lasts over 3-6 months, the camera is easy to mount, and it has on-camera SD card storage as well as a very easy to use optional cloud recording subscription. The camera could be placed in a super dark area and you can still see all activity in color! The wide-angle lens ensures you will not miss anything. Best of all, the camera has deterrents such as an optional siren and motion activated spotlight that will send any hooligan with half a brain running! The amount of features this little gadget packs is endless and allows you to customize it to whatever you need.

To start in the box you of course get the Arlo Ultra camera, the Smarthub, AC adapter, battery, charge cable, an ethernet cable, mounting hardware, and the guide. The set up was very easy using the Arlo app. Just follow the steps and its a breeze. Plug in the hub, connect it to power, and your router with the included cables. Setting up the camera itself is easy as well. Install the battery, charge it up, then pick your install location that suits you. For me that is the front door. I really wanted to use this not only for security, but also to know whos knocking on my door. So with the included hardware its very easy. Using the Wall mount and screw set it installs very easy. The whole process is easy to get going. The Arlo app is very easy to use with a simplified user interface and guided step by step set up and usage. You dont need to be a tech person to get everything up and running. I prefer this over more complicated apps with some other devices. And if you are a tech person that likes to get in and tweak settings, etc. there is plenty of that as well. I just stick to the default settings for the most part. Once up and running it does everything well. The camera feed the the app is great. 1080p is fine for me and I never thought I needed the 4K, but its there if you prefer that. The wide 180 degree view catches the enire front door, porch, and most of the front yard. It also has great night vision so you can still see whats going on in the dark. And if its still too dark it has a built in spot light. And when it needs a charge the magnetic cable snaps into place for an easy connection. I love that its fully wireless as well. This allows you so many more install and usage options not having to worry about wires and cables. In case of emergency you can also have a loud siren go off to scare away anything unwanted at your door. Overall I really love this camera. Its feature packed, yet still simple. The app is well laid out with easy to follow instructions and usage. And the camera itself works great. You cant really put a price on piece of mind, but I think its worth it here for sure. Just knowing whos banging in my door is worth it enough, but of course this is that and so much more. If your looking for a solid, easy to use home security solution this is a great choice.

These cameras worked fine for the first year until the free subscription ran out. We have had constant issues since them and some seemed to be resolved when we signed up for the subscription. The customer support team does not seem to know how to resolve issues. I would recommend looking at the Ring cameras versus these as we may switch to them in the near future.

Quality Hardware, Easy Setup & Great Footage

Setup: The Arlo VMS5140 was a breeze to setup. You simply plug the base station into your router, install the battery into the camera and install the app on your smart phone. Once you power on the camera the app will guide you through the setup. There's no need to follow instructions in a user manual. During the setup the system detected that a software update was needed and performed the update automatically. Features: The build quality of the camera is really good, it's heavy but manageable. I've mounted and tested the camera both indoors and outdoors. The night vision does a great job during the night to illuminate the video and provide quality video. The spotlight takes it to the next level by shining a bright light when motion is detected. The siren feature of the camera is a nice to have, but I don't see it as a feature I would use. When testing feature the siren wasn't as loud as I expected. The 180 degree camera does a great job of capturing your whole yard, room, porch or whatever you're trying to monitor. I've had other wireless cameras that burn through batteries that aren't rechargeable. I really like that the VMS5140 has a rechargeable battery that can be removed. The charging cable is magnetic, like apple laptops used to have. The charger snaps right into place, it's great! I like that you have the option to store video locally on a SD card that plugs into the base station. Performance: The camera detects close and distant motion very well. The video and audio quality is excellent given it's 4k. The app is simple to use to setup, manage and review your footage. I was worried that the battery life would not be good, but it's really impressive. When testing indoors the camera was constantly recording motion and only 3% of the battery was used that day. I would highly recommend the VMS5140 for anyone looking for a wireless camera system for their home or business. Note: I received the Arlo VMS5140 free from Arlo for testing purposes. This review is my true and honest opinion of the product.

If you live in Mexico and want to enjoy the one year free plan subscription the package comes with, forget it! Aldo, if you want to get a pay plan in order for exploit the cameras full potential and use cloud storage, also impossible! Something Best Buy seller should have mentioned in order to not but them or instead buy another brand for international use. Very dissapointed.

For $636, I expected perfection. I didn’t want to believe the bad reviews and hoped the new release after they were pulled off the shelves was going to work. It didn’t. My cheap Blink cameras are about the same quality. Zooming in makes the image extremely blurry. Arlo tech support says they are working on a fix. That’s a joke. I’m giving it a couple days and they will be returned.

I had one of the cameras fall and the lense popped out. I tried to contact support so that I could pay to have this camera fixed and they said they do not have this kind of service. In other words, if it breaks or is out of warranty you have to buy a new one. I’ll never buy another Arlo or Netgear product again.

Great Upgrade to my old Arlo Pro - System

Disclosure - Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, however, the opinions expressed in this review are those of a previous Arlo product user and are based on the use and comparison with the older version of this security camera system . * I order the product at the store and although it it was out of stock, the package arrived within 2 business days. * the box - the product is boxed in a sturdy and elegant package, the labeling is clear and easy to read. * the setup - Having setup a previous Arlo Pro system - I had already downloaded the software on my mobile device, the setup was a easy as disconnecting the old base, connecting the new one, let the software recognize the new base and cameras, and let the system do automatic update of firmware. Very simple and intuitive. * Camera mounts - the package comes with a powerful, magnet based, mount and a solid "screw on" swivel base. I wish the package would include a least 2 magnet base mounts. * Video Quality - I was using a Arlo pro cameras and it is very easy to see the difference in the Ultra cameras when it comes to video quality and the field of view. The Ultra product is a much better product when it comes to video clarity and field of view. * new features - powerful spotlight feature - very convenient when you don't want to open the door to someone you don't know. * The base - smaller and more elegant, pleasing to the eye. Pros: - easy and intuitive setup - Increased field of view and video quality - easy to mount - powerful spotlight Cons: * I wish it would come with 2 magnet bases. I would definitely recommend this as an upgrade to the older Arlo products.

This is my second Arlo product and I'm very impressed in how this next gen device has evolved. The video quality is spectacular. In the older gen Arlo product, I had areas in my front yard that were triggered by people and animals walking by our home. With this new device, we're able to block out the sidewalk and avoid all of the false alarms we used to get. The notifications capability is also evolved with additional options as well as an option to call a friend or notify 911. The night vision capability is also greatly-improved and the viewing angle is also wider. Arlo has also figured out that you need to prove the value of their cloud service. They give away one full year of their cloud storage so you can really understand whether you need it or not. This is a great product with nice improvements over previous models.

    No Electrician Needed!

Pros: * No wiring needed * Super easy to setup * Great video/picture quality * Good battery life * Easy-to-use app interface * Option for local or cloud storage * Included 1 year service Cons: * Magnetically mounted makes me paranoid someone will steal it The two biggest reasons I wanted the new 4K HDR security camera from Arlo are: (1) I want the extra home security and peace of mind, and (2) NO WIRING NEEDED!! My house is quite old and I just don't have the time or budget to have new wiring where I would want security cameras, so going with a wireless option was, well, really my only actual option. So, if you don't feel like having new wiring, or perhaps you live in an apartment or are renting, this is a fantastic option if you want to increase your home security (or try to deter porch pirates). Setting up the Arlo camera couldn't have been easier. You provide power to the Arlo SmartHub, connect it to your router, then download and use the Arlo app on your phone. The app walks you through the remaining steps (after creating an Arlo account and installing updates). Using the app you can even use "Device Utilities" menu in the app to display the video bandwitdth connection of the camera, allowing you to guage how far you can setup the camera from the SmartHub without sacrificing video quality. Arlo claims the battery life to be between 3 and 6 months (so obviously I have to take them at their word for now), which is very good. When the battery eventually starts to get low, the app will let you know. Then you just take the camera off the magnetic mount, brining it inside, and use the included magnetic charger (it takes less than 3 hours to fully charge the camera). Video and audio quality is better than I expected, but I have my camera in a spot that shouldn't get much wind or direct sunlight on the camera, so your results might vary slightly. I haven't tried to duplicate the ability to read someone's license plate from the camera, but faces come up very clear and detailed. One feature I really love is that the LED light is motion-activated, which is a great deterrence to let would-be intruders know a camera is present and knows that they are there. The "night vision" looks pretty good as well and preserves plenty of details, even in very low-light environments. My only real "gripe" or real worry is that since the security camera is wireless and attaches to the mount magnetically, someone could potentially steal it. Yeah, I'll know when they approach the camera and even get a good look at them, but I'll still be out an expensive security camera. It's just the downside of not having a wired security camera. In my situation, it's still better than having an electrician out. Also, depending on where you mount your camera, it's more unlikely that it can be stolen.

Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. What we initially loved about the Arlo System was the fact that the cameras are totally wireless and can be set up literally anywhere! We received the Ultra + series and loved how simple and quick both cameras were to set up and especially love that the batteries are rechargeable. The video quality is incredibly clear for such a small camera! The 2-Way Audio function is nice because we can speak through the camera whenever people are at our door which makes them think we're at home while we are at work. Function-wise, it starts recording as soon as there is movement detected and takes pictures as well. Both my wife and I can check up on the cameras from our phones while we are away at work - so we know whenever packages are delivered to our door. The camera has an incredibly wide angle of coverage, we have one on our mantle and it covers the entire living room wall-to-wall as well as the next room over with crystal clear images. The cameras record very well in the dark, all images and video come out clear. There is a very bright spotlight feature that turns on when there is motion at night which acts as a deterrent for unwanted people. We love our Arlo System, it gets the job done.

Easy to use system with lots of features

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have a few camera systems installed in my house. Some work better than others and I'm always looking for something to replace the multi-camera system I have installed. I had an opportunity to check out the Arlo 4K wireless system. The system came packaged very well. It contained some quick-start instructions for the smart hub, the hub itself, the battery for the camera, and the camera base plus things like cords, etc. The mobile app was easy to find on the Android app store. when it was time to create a new account, there were some guessing games when picking a password as a new user since the password rules aren't visible. If the password doesn't pass the rules Arlo thinks will make your password secure, it won't let you create an account. There's no feedback except for red asterisks masking your password. Oddly enough, I tried to create an account but the app told me I already had one. Many years ago I had a Netgear account. Apparently this account conflicted with the Arlo account which required a call to Arlo tech support to delete the Netgear account before proceeding. Once this was complete, I navigated to the Arlo site where I attempted to set up a new account. After selecting my product from the list I was prompted with instructions on how to get the device online and working. After about 2 minutes or less after powering up the device and connecting it to my network via a cable, the website managed to detect the base station along with (almost) the correct timezone and asked for me to assign it a name. I say almost because it detected Tijuana when it should have detected PST in California. After providing a name, I was asked for my email address. A short registration form appeared. After completing the registration process, I was at the dashboard and ready to go. I was expecting to add cameras through the website but I was directed to the mobile app for that task. After installing and opening the mobile app, it was time to add the camera. After a very short couple of steps, the camera was detected and I was prompted for a camera name. The app began to display the camera video and shows a signal strength meter which is extremely helpful in finding a good location for the new camera. A few more clicks and the camera was installed. There was an option for e911 setup but I will decline that for now. After setup the device had a firmware update ready which I agreed to install. The firmware update was retrieved from Arlo and automatically installed on the camera in under a minute. The range for the system is very good (more on this in the Gotchas section below). My base station is inside a closet with several other electronic devices and the camera is mounted outside on the opposite side of the house about 50 feet away through several walls. The signal strength is strong and the picture is clear. Immediately after connecting the camera it began to detect motion and even recognized there was a person (me) in the picture and began notifying me. The video clarity is very good. Better than the 1080p cameras I currently have. It immediately recognizes humans when they come into the frame. The audio is clear although wind noise is a problem sometimes and I happen to live in a windy area. My current cameras don't have audio so I'm unable to compare them. It ends up sounding a lot like a cellular phone call in the wind. Overall there were a couple of hiccups during the install but definitely no show stoppers and I'd say this is one of the easier devices to set up and install. The hiccups I encountered were not something the average new user would have experienced so I'd say it's safe to assume the install will take you less than 30 minutes if you've already got a place in mind to put the camera and the base station. Probably less if you're technically savvy. There are some pretty cool features built in -I liked the fact that these cameras were security-centric and had the ability to turn monitoring features on and off at certain times. -The activity zone selection is super easy. -The website and android mobile apps are both very clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate. -Adding a device is incredibly easy to do. -Cross platform apps are a huge win for my family since I like Android and others in the family prefer that fruit-branded alternative cell-phone maker. -The time line in the app allows you to review past activity captured with the camera in a very easy manner. -The geofencing feature is very cool. As a bonus, you can enabled geofencing for all phones connected to the account, no matter the platform, at the same time. Gotchas: These things are expensive. For reference, I purchased a popular 18 channel 1080p security camera system and had 9 hard-wired cameras installed for about $2k. The equivalent Arlo system is just slightly over that price without any installation. That being said, wireless installation makes this much easier. I'm not sure I understand the decision to make the Base Station mode arming options a single option only. It would seem more logical to give the ability to combine geofencing AND a schedule. I think this needs to be revisited. I'm also not sure about creating your own Mode. It looks like geofencing and a schedule are not options for this particular feature. That would be a good feature to include. Playback for recordings displays a giant pause button in the middle of the screen for about a second. Which is irritating. Selecting a password for the account is a bit of a guessing game since the password requirements aren't obvious and there's no usable feedback when you're selecting a password. Arlo won't you log in from two devices simultaneously so when you add your camera to the base station, it will log you out of the desktop browser dashboard. I'd like to be able to log in to any device simultaneously. Over time, I noticed the Arlo base station red light flashing. Apparently the signal strength isn't registering the same as when I installed which is odd. In order to activate the camera, you're asked by the setup wizard to install the battery. It's not immediately obvious how to disassemble the camera. The hardware to install the camera is probably the worst thing about the entire package and, to be honest, it's an embarrassment. The screw head is tiny. It's easily stripped. I'd venture a guess that most users who will install this will b using a screw gun to install the screw. This is a bad idea. It will almost immediately strip the Phillips screw head and force you to remove the screw with pliers. I actually threw the screw out after trying to use it, pulled a small drywall screw out from my supplies and ground the head down with a grinding wheel until it fit in the channel for the base. This ended up being as good or better than the hardware supplied in the kit. Arlo - if you're listening, the hardware is a fail. Summary: This is a great camera package with an incredibly easy set up minus some minor glitches. The camera quality is stellar and the motion detection is great. If you're looking for an easy camera to set up with some pretty cool features, this is an excellent, albeit expense, choice. Arlo provided me with this product free of charge, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product.
