I have owned Arlo cameras now for years and tried the first generation all the way through to pro. I have even tried out Ring cameras and others, but nothing has ever come close to Arlo. This camera is no different and is the pinnacle in my opinion of the way a wire free outdoor camera should operate. This is not only easy to set up into your existing router ecosystem, with a plug and play feature, it is easy to connect and start in the intuitive app. The features of this camera are an all in one spotlight, alarm, plus 4K HD pinch and zoom features and a feature which I think is awesome, widescreen panoramic viewing which is exceptional for viewing an entire area with one shot. This device has a rechargeable battery which is easy to charge directly in the camera with the magnetic charging cable plus it is very easy to mount on an Arlo camera mount or the included magnetic mount which is easy to install anywhere. Comparable to the other cameras Arlo has come out with, this is the best of the best and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a top quality outdoor wire free camera with every feature in one device.

The Arlo Ultra. Disclaimer: Arlo provided me a 2-camera setup as part of a Friends and Family program. My opinions are honest and not influenced by this freebie. As you will see ☺ What I really want: A camera than can take readable pictures of bad-guy license plates in the street at night. Can the Ultra do this? History: I originally had the Arlo battery-only cameras. The batteries lasted a month, and I had to get a ladder to recharge them. Never again. I gave up on these. When the Pro2 came out, I installed them using long USB cables for power, drilling holes into my garage, and stapling the cables up under the eaves. Battery problem solved. But the pro2 is not good at night. So on to the Ultra. Install the Ultra Base. I used my iphone. It detected the base unit. It then checked its firmware rev for “couple minutes”, which lasted 45 mins until I gave up. I rebooted it. It flashed (presumably unhappy) lights at me. I deleted the device (which then hung the iphone) and tried it all again. It then went into updateFW again, this time for 5 mins. Then locked up. I tried my Android: similar. I tried my iphone again. Eventually, for no obvious reason, it succeeded. Install cameras. Each time you try, you get “check FW rev”, a message I began to hate. Each of these lasted about 5 mins. After many attempts, I gave up. The iphone app still always entered the Base station setup menu, and I could not get out of that. On Android, I had more success- I got into screens which showed pictures of what I should be doing. Still didn’t work, though. (And what does “hold the sync button” mean: press it once? Hold it for the entire duration of discovery? I don’t know). Still nothing. Hmm. A thought: did Arlo send me dead camera batteries? Yes, it turned out they did. (And of course you can’t check battery strength until you have succeeded at setup). I charged them for a while. You get ONE charging wire, for two cameras. Why, Arlo? So you can charge me $30 for the other one I need? With power (!) camera discovery worked. I went to replace a Pro2 with an Ultra to see the difference. The Pro2 is under the eaves, with USB power. The Ultra has an entirely different magnetic power connector, which I cannot use. So either I have to rewire my house (NOT IN PLAN, Arlo), or there is some connector between the new power cord and the old Pro2 cable. Is there? Meanwhile, my Android was fine; however my iphone at last showed the Ultra base unit but no cameras. I fixed this by updating the Arlo app; but really, Arlo, couldn’t you tell me which IOS version I needed before I wasted all this time? Is this why the original setup was so difficult? 4 hours of setup so far. Arlo really need to do QA on setup in real-world conditions. The cameras are not yet mounted where I want them. But I’m playing with them anyway. Motion: seems to trigger quite nicely at short distances. Seems to miss capturing the first 2-3 secs on the video. (Manual says it goes back 3 secs; this seems not to work. ) Too early to determine how reliable the person/vehicles/animals motion detection works – although it seems to get people right most of the time. I got NO triggers at night for cars in the street (and I know the newspaper car came by). This with spotlight/night/color turned on. (The pro2 does this too) De-motion: The camera stops immediately motion ceases, even if the next motion starts within a second. This means you’re going to get hundreds of very small clips, which for sure will be a complete pain when you’re looking at the SD card. ( I have 70 from my driveway in only 90 mins, mostly about 10 secs long.) Recordings: sometimes the images are heavily pixilated across the bottom half of the image. Sometimes there entirely messed up. This often (but not always) occurs when the camera is pointed along my driveway to the sun. Battery charging. Started charging camera1 (at about 30%, I think – may be wrong) at 3pm. At 5:30, it’s 68%. So full charge looks like a LONG time. Camera 2: 30% at 7:00, 100% at 9:30, so about 3.5h for a full charge. Battery usage: On my driveway (quiet street)…..in 23 hrs, power dropped to 79%, ie it will last about 5 days. Not good at all; hence you will NEED AC power. Compatibility with Pro2: can I move the old Pro2 cameras to the Ultra Base? Some things say I can. However, since the app nicely handles both, there seems no good reason to do this. Solar. Only with the Ultra solar panel. Incompatible with previous solar panels. Spotlight. It seems to go on when it wants (notion and dark?) with no way to turn it off other than waiting. Now you can turn off the little leds (so that bad guys don’t notice, presumably). Yet there’s this ultra-bright spotlight. Odd. If I turn it off, do I get night images? (Yes, says the manual; just not in color). I got no night images at all, so can’t tell. Angle of view. 155° is ok, with a little fisheye. At 120, the things at the edge of the image are elongated a lot. Every car becomes a sports car with an XKE front. At 180, the fisheye effect is extreme. Only 155 is really usable. Clarity. On the Pro2, I can read a license plate at 20 feet. (Viewed on 28” monitor on my Mac). On the Ultra, at (I assume) 4k, I cannot. Huh? What am I doing wrong? Storage: The pro2 has 2 USB slots for local storage (except in practice you could only use one). There was no way to look at the images other than removing it and taking it to the PC. (That’s’ just sad, Arlo!) Then you had no useful image viewer. In fact, Windows can barely deal with that many files (thousands). Sigh. The ultra didn’t fix any of this. Clearly, Arlo wants you to use (and pay for) cloud storage. The ultra has a single micro-SD. I have a drawer-full of spare USB sticks. I have a drawer-full of spare SD cards. I have NO micro-SDs. Nasty, fiddly things. And there’s no room in the base for a real SD card? Of course there is. Viewing: Why can’t I view all images from a camera at fast forward, like you can on everybody else’s cameras? Summary: Does it satisfy my original hope? No. (Like, I suspect, all home-security systems). Is it better than the Pro2? Not really, and certainly not worth the price jump from $400 to $600 (2 cameras). And could Arlo just do minor things to make the experience better? YES.

Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. I have bought Arlo Pro in the past and like the product and Arlo app. I was thinking of upgrading options recently and Arlo Ultra came just on time. Arlo Ultra are easy to install and set up, the same consistent experience as I had with Arlo Pro cameras. Ultra cameras deliver much better video and image quality with enhanced 180 degree angle to have much larger coverage area. In addition, Ultra's night view is significantly better (with color) and night video quality is much beyond my expectations. The Ultra camera accurately detect motions and the app send notification with less delay. While I was very satisfied with Pro's free 7 day video storage service in the past, now I feel even more secured with Ultra's 30 day video storage service and think I will definitely subscribe for monthly service after 1 year free period.

Arlo has provided me with the Arlo Ultra 2 Camera System free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. The main features that I interested in are 1080p HD video, color and infrared night vision, and integrations with Amazon Alexa, Apple Watch and Google Assistant. Setting up the SmartHub and Cameras was seamless, and of course the most labor is mounting the cameras/solar panels for outdoor used; just like any other brand products. Good option that you can install a micro-SD card in the base station for local storage, to keep recordings. Video quality is great and the 180 degree view is a game changer. Picture quality is very clear as well as color. Audio quality is also much better. The cameras are battery powered, so you either need an additional charger and spare batteries, or you need to take down a camera in order to charge the battery. I used both cameras for outdoor, so I purchased 2x of Arlo solar panel chargers. If you are looking for the best camera available (from any provider) and its powerful-but-simple software; then this is the wireless camera to get.

For a wireless camera, this is the best!

When it comes to security cameras I want it all: Perfect image quality, live viewing of the camera via phone or the web including sound monitoring, motion detection capability, alerts when important motion is detected, automatic recording and remote storage of content when motion is occurring, remote access to the recordings, and finally simple installation. I have been searching for the perfect camera for a long time and I can’t describe how happy I am to get a chance to use the Arlo Ultra because I can now say there is finally a camera that meets all my requirements! For those that place a lot of weight on the setup of the camera you will be very happy with the Arlo Ultra. I think I had it up and running within 15 minutes of the package’s delivery. You just download the app and it walks you through a very easy process. As far as the physical set-up is concerned, you only need to plug in the power cord and a network cable to the base and you are essentially ready to go. Just download the app and add the base and camera by following the simple instructions (Add camera: plug in the battery and it finds it!) Once you name the camera you are ready to go! Oh, and mounting the camera with the magnetic base is also incredibly easy and even the most clumsy installer will have this mounted and positioned perfectly very quickly. The Features Image Quality: Here the camera really outshines all the other wireless cameras I have ever seen. You have the option for up to 4K resolution, which is the resolution that I started my testing with. I had to admit that initially I thought the quality only looked OK then I realized I still had the plastic lens protector on. I took that off and could really see the benefit of the 4K resolution! The downside is that the higher the resolution that you use the more bandwidth it will use, but who doesn’t have ample bandwidth nowadays? Also, you really need that higher resolution if you want to be able to identify people’s faces from any distance, etc. I did some quality tests at lower resolution and the image still looks good but I would wonder why you would buy this camera if you don’t want to use the 4K resolution. With that said, if from time to time you want to conserve bandwidth you can feel confident that you will still get a great picture with this camera. The other great benefit here is that you can get a very wide angle but they do something to avoid the typical fisheye distortion. This is nice if you are trying to cover a very wide area. The position of my camera is high so I can still get all of the important areas using one of the less-wide settings. I still have been testing this feature and as of now I have yet to see where the widest width has any detrimental effect on the image quality and it is nice to be able to include more of my yard. Live Remote Viewing: This can be done via the web or via an app on your mobile devices. I have been testing it with web interface and the iOS app as well as an older iPad. Both web and iOS versions are fairly straight forward and the controls and options are the same on both. One of the very important aspects of live viewing for me is the ability to listen to what is going on. I use the camera outdoors and like to also be able to hear what is happening when watching. This camera not only allows me to hear but it also contains a speaker so I can talk through the camera while viewing a live feed. I can let an intruder know that I can see them and the cops are on the way! The sound system also has a nice feature to reduce the wind noise that can make it difficult to distinguish the desired audio. This is a really nice addition! Motion Detection Capabilities and Alerts: This is an extremely important feature for a security camera as most of us will not be viewing it live all the time that we are away from home or work. As with most cameras these days this camera has good motion detection software, the ability to control the sensitivity, as well as the ability to send an alert via email or push notifications once motion is detected. The big difference with the Arlo Ultra is you can use their advanced modes to narrow the alerts if the motion is detected as a person, an animal, or a vehicle vs. just any random motion. I have a lot of trees and bushes and every afternoon we usually have a lot of wind. This has always set off my other camera’s alerts so frequently that it makes them useless and I either have to turn them off or ignore them. So far, with this camera I have been able to limit my alerts so if the motion is a person I will check in to see what is happening. They also have a package detection capability that is in beta test and, although I have implemented it, I have yet to get any packages. This seems like it would be a very nice feature if you have a lot of porch pirates in your area and want to be able to be more alert or take action if an unexpected package arrives. I will be doing some additional testing on this feature as well. The system also has the ability to create motion zones, which I have done, but I have not figured out how to specify whether the zone is an “ignore” or “alert” zone. With that said, I really like the way you can create non-rectangular boxes to cover odd shaped areas. On my old devices it required rectangular zones which might force you to create multiple zones to cover an odd shaped area. This is a really nice feature. Night Vision: If you have any familiarity with security cameras you are familiar with the black and white footage from night vision where all the people/animals look like they have “electric eyes”. This camera has that too, but it kicks it up a notch by adding a camera light that will allow you to create a setting and automatically turn that on when motion is detected and give you full color night shots! (You can also turn it on manually if you are viewing the camera.) This will allow you to see that the prowler was actually wearing a red hoodie and not a grey one. That could be very helpful to law enforcement to help identify and arrest them. You can also use the light to flash when detecting motion which could act as a deterrent to would-be criminals. Maybe that would provide the best benefit of all and prevent any problematic activity before it starts. Additional Features: One of the most unique features that I have never seen on another camera is the ability for this one to track motion and zoom automatically. My camera is mounted high and so there is a lot of area that gets covered. When someone is walking around this camera will zoom into where they are and move the frame as they move. In my limited testing the motion wasn’t completely smooth but it is nice to not have to zoom in manually. I am assuming the system is using a digital zoom (I couldn’t find details on that) but the quality seems pretty comparable to the non-zoomed image, which is almost unheard of for a digital zoom. One big advantage I see for this is that when reviewing security footage there can be a lot of “nothing happening” that you have to sit through to see what you want to see. This automatic feature helps you not have to go back and manually zoom in and cuts down your time spent reviewing. There are a bunch of other features that Arlo may not be that heavily promoting but here are a few that I really like: The way to charge this camera is so much easier than the old models. This one has an external charging surface and a magnetic connector so you just need to get the connector close and it will latch on and start charging. Where I have this camera located I can easily just run out the cable, attach it, and pull it off when done. No need to take the camera down, or try to open a charging cover and push in some small connector, or even open the entire camera to remove the battery. In the past whenever the camera needed charging it also needed a position check to make sure it didn’t get knocked out of position. That won’t happen with this camera! Another feature I love with the Arlo family is the ability to view them on my Apple TV. No more relying on only my tiny phone, iPad, or computer to watch live or recorded videos, I can watch these babies on my biggest screen from the comfort of my couch. Another addition to the Ultra camera is that it has a siren built in, which formerly was on the Base. Since the base is indoors and I have a dog, that feature was never used. Now, I can use that if I want to scare off a prowler but not freak out the dog or anyone else inside the house. Overall I think this camera is a great addition to the Arlo line. Although there are a lot of really great new features, the increased resolution to me is what really helps to make this camera the best available in its class. I am a part of a product review program and have been provided with the Arlo Ultra camera as a promotional tool for this review. With that said, the content here is my honest feedback and opinion of the product based on my personal testing and use.

This replaced my original Arlo Camera on the front door. The biggest plus here is that the battery is rechargeable, so no more heading to Amazon every few months to buy more CR123s. You have to take the camera down to charge it, which is the biggest drawback because you have to go through remounting it. The magnetic charge adapter interferes with the magnet mount somewhat when it is in place. If they had moved that slightly it would be great, because you could leave the camera in place and get an extension cable to charge it for a short time. The picture is 4k and you get to choose a range of aspect ratios (think "fisheye") for your location. The light is not super bright, but is enough to get the sensor out of the black/white IR mode if you want a little more detail. Microphone is ok, and speaker is a little delayed. The SD card fits in the base station as well, rather than the camera itself. Arlo provided me with this product free of charge, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest based on my use of the product.

Overall, I think this is a good product and it works well for me. The setup was extremely easy, and I like the magnetic mount of the camera- it makes it very easy to recharge the device. The hub was easy to plug into my mesh wifi satellite and it was up and running quickly. The app is easy to use, and intuitive. I like the crystal clear picture, two way audio, and motion activated lights at night. The night mode itself is ok, but not great. My main gripe with the camera is the zoom feature. There's an AI that controls it, but you're unable to take over and zoom on your own. The pictures on the website with zooming in on the license plate aren't what you get, and I wish I could control zooming that much on playback. I ended up turning off the automatic zoom, b/c it felt jerky to me. Overall, this is a good camera that was easy to set up, but there is room for improvement. Arlo provided me with this product free of charge, but the opinion I expressed here is honest and based on my using the camera.

This is our first security camera so this review is not in comparison with other brands. Setup is simple and easy to follow. I like that it’s wire free because I can place it anywhere or change its position anytime. It’s currently placed indoors so we can check the house when we are away. Since this is our first security cam, I can’t compare the video quality with others. But for our purposes, video quality is enough. One thing I noticed is there is a bit of a lag between video and audio, not sure if it’s due to our wifi connection or the app. However the lag is not too bad that hinders us from understanding what’s going on. Also sometimes the unit gets disconnected, especially during the evening when everyone in the house is using the wifi. This doesn’t bother us though because technically we don’t need to view the camera when we are all in the house. I like the motion alert feature as well. It sends notification to my phone whenever the unit detects a movement, although there’s a little bit of a delay which I suspect are pretty common in other security cam as well. Overall, I like this security camera - it has many features that you can customize depending on your needs. I might purchase another unit to install outdoors this time.

I really like the Arlo Ultra Wireless security camera. Unpacking the box brings the base station, the camera, a battery and charging cord for the camera, and a power cord and ethernet cable for the base station. Setting up was a breeze. Just plug the base station into your router and put the battery in the camera and charge it up. To get the camera working, you need to download the Arlo app. It's in the app store, so it's easy to find and install. Once the app is installed, the setup begins. The free one year service is there automatically, not requiring a credit card or anything for the trial. The app finds the base station and then the camera, downloading any firmware updates that are available. I love the portability of this camera. I am able to put in in my bedroom window at night (we are hoping to discover what kind of animal is defiling our backyard at night, lol) and in the day, we move it to the window by the front door. The only downside to putting the camera behind a window at night is that the night vision lights reflect off of the glass so you can't see anything. To see outside at night, I have to turn off the night vision and make sure the yard is illuminated. This thing is packed full of features. It can identify a person and zoom and track them. It can identify when a package has been dropped off and will track it if it moves. Really cool. This thing is fully worthy of 5 stars save for the night vision issue and the fact that it doesn't come with instructions, only a little paper that shows you how to plug everything in and to tell you to download the app. All in all, I highly recommend.

If you're looking for a super high-def security camera, this is a great choice. Pros: + 4K quality is excellent; the picture is super high definition + Night vision is a nice feature to see problems outside even after dark + The integration with the Arlo app is pretty slick; I'm impressed + Arlo's ability to be mounted and mostly hidden in a variety of places is really useful + The smart hub will let you expand to more Arlo cameras Cons: - Expensive! Be sure you want and need the features before you pay this much - Subscription; the Arlo service is a subscription and will cost after the 1 year included if you want all the features - Only comes with one camera; other Arlo bundles have multiple cameras to cover all of your entrances/exits All in all, this is a great product if it's what you need. Think twice before dropping the money, but feel safer with the security it provides if you do buy it.

There’s allot to ike with this camera system. The setup was easy and it's simple to use via the app or website. The fit, finish, and build quality are excellent. AMong the best of security cameras. The camera’s battery life is good. It lasts a week or more depending on how much activity it detects. The 180 degree field of view works really well. There is minimal fisheye distortion which is impressive in its own right. The Arlo SmartHub provides very good range to the Arlo cameras. Camera worked anywhere on my third acre lot, even in a shed at the edge of my lot. Though the signal strength was getting low 100’ out through an interior and exterior wall. There is a limit of 10 cameras per hub. There are numerous accessories from both Netgear and third parties to help fit most any need you may have. But there are some big and minor missed I found. The 4K feature is heavily touted, but falls short where I believe it will be most useful. There is a great Auto Zoom feature will automatically zoom in and track an object. It is not supported in 4K mode, so you may not get the level of detail you are hoping for. Getting a good face picture or reading the plate off a across your lawn may not be feasible with just HDR. If you plan to use this feature, stick with the cheaper Pro cameras. Also, you are limited to just two 4K streams recording at a time. Video storage is inadequate. While the SmartHub has a microSD card slot, the largest supported card is just 32Gb! If you have a few cameras in use, especially if you record in 4K, the SD card will fill up fast. Larger 128GB and larger SD cards keep getting cheaper, so this seems like a ridiculous limitation to me. Why not add a USB port and allow very large USB hard drives to be connected as many home routers, including Netgears do? There are a few different cloud clip recording subscriptions and options available with 14, 30, and 60 day retentions periods . Recording clips to the cloud in 4K and continuous 24/7 recording are currently extra cost options. Audio from the camera has a 3-4s delay to your phone. Unlike the commercials, a conversation through a camera will be difficult, at the very least annoying. I have noticed this every other brand of wireless camera and doorbell I tried, so this is not a unique shortcoming. The most unique and intriguing feature is also its achilles heel. It’s convenient to be able to easily mount a camera anywhere with no wires. Then to reach up and pull the camera down to charge it. But this also makes it easy for someone to steal them. Even if you use the thread mount to better secure the camera, the guts of the expensive camera will slide out with the push of a single button. You can mount it high out of reach of thieves, but then it's hard to charge. Then come playing with it each time you remount it to get the view angle just right. The Ultra 4K camera has magnet in the mount, not the camera. This seems backwards. If you have a steel post already, you have to use the Arlo mount. Drilling a hole in a steel post, especially above your head may not be easy or desirable. Outdoor and indoor charging cables are available, but seem a bit pricey. As are the battery chargers and spare batteries. If you have a place you absolutely cannot get power to and can mount it securely, this camera may be useful to you. As with any security system, determine what if any accessories and subscription plans will be needed for it to meet your plans. While I find the Arlo Utra a great addition for a specific need I have, it will not replace my other more traditional multi-camera HD system which records to a 8TB drive.

Received the Arlo - Ultra Indoor/Outdoor Wire Free 4K HDR Security Camera System - White as part of the Bestbuy Tech Insider Network. The setup was relatively simple, just took a while to update after a couple failed attempts. Initially, after the setup and placing of the camera, the tracking, recognition and other features were really good. We set it up in the front room where the cats play and use the restroom. After the first few hours, it just doesn't even connect and the system is always offline, even after resetting the hub. Been a couple of days and it's very unacceptable for a security system. I'd recommend the system because of the rich feature set and I suppose the name of Arlo, but the overall connectivity and stability leave a ton to be desired for such an expensive system.

Love the New Features in Arlo Ultra!

Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. I have owned every generation of Arlo's security monitoring cameras and I have to say, I am delighted with Arlo's latest flagship offering, Arlo Ultra. Here is a summary of the Pros and Cons:- Pros -4K local network picture quality (only available without a subscription when you stream the recordings on your local network) is very crisp - and on zooming in the picture shows fine details which you could not see with lower resolution cameras; -Great wide angle lens covers a much wider field than previous generations; -Spotlight feature is a great addition, which makes capturing clear images at night time/in very dark conditions a reality - this is a big improvement; -12 month free bundle of Arlo Smart is a big plus - I can now have more than 5 cameras (I have 7) with no extra subscription - PLUS I get all the benefits of an Arlo Smart Subscription (Person Detection, Animal Detection, etc Rich notifications, e-911) - for free. When our cat comes to the front door to ask to be let in at night we get a cool notification "Animal detected on front door" with a clear picture of our furry bundle of fun in the message - he does not even need to meow any more to be let in!; -Easy to install - I was up and running in minutes, even after installing the new base station; -Great, clear audio quality; Cons -I used to attach my previous generation Arlo cameras to the metal gutters around my house - they have a magnet built in which makes this possible and made installation super quick and easy. With Arlo Ultra, this is no longer possible, so I had to get my drill out! Overall, these cameras are a big step forward from the earlier generation Arlo cameras which I have in my system. The new features (4K, spotlight, wide field of view, Arlo Smart 12 month subscription) are very impressive and make a meaningful difference to the user.

This Arlo Ultra 4K HDR camera does exactly what it is advertised to do—provide imagery of any area in or around your house or property where you choose to set it. Setup was simple with two steps involved. First, connect the included base station (“hub”) to both AC power and an ethernet jack on your router or modem with the included cable. Then download the Arlo app to your smartphone, and the rest of the installation practically goes by itself. The app will first connect to the hub and then check for and install any firmware updates. You are then instructed to insert the battery into the camera (out of the box, that battery had about 50% charge, so you can start setting it up immediately). This powers the camera on automatically, and the app finds the camera. It then checks for and installs any firmware updates for the camera. In my case, both the hub and camera received updates. You’ll have to register for an account with Arlo before doing anything, but that’s simple as well. Once the firmware updates are completed, setup is pretty much complete. You can start using the app immediately to view the camera’s imagery and listen to whatever sounds are in the area of the camera. The camera is 4K HDR, and the image is very clear and bright as it appears on my phone, but it is slightly fisheye. Arlo claims that its “advanced dewarping” feature eliminates they fisheye view sometimes seen with security cameras, but the edges of the images, in my experience, still curve inward slightly. This is undoubtedly due to the camera’s capturing a full 180-degree field of view. The camera also features “enhanced color night vision,” so nighttime images are in color, rather than the traditional black-and-white that most home security cameras deliver. Overall, the camera is fine. The camera connects via a separate wireless network created by the hub. There is no need to pair the camera to the hub or create or use passwords to connect anything to the wireless network. All connections are made automatically, and there is no interaction with your existing home wireless system. The camera mounts to the included mounting bracket via a strong magnet, so removal and attachment to the mount, which you’ll need to do occasionally to recharge the battery, is simple. The camera mount itself requires one screw, which is included. The Ultra package includes a 1-year subscription to Arlo’s cloud storage service, Arlo Smart Premiere, so your captured videos, which are activated either whenever something moves in the camera’s field of view or when you activate the camera from your phone, are stored. After one year, if you don’t renew the subscription, videos can still be stored on an internal SD card (not included in the package) in the hub. The documentation says that up to 10 cameras can be connected to the same hub, but I have not connected more than one. Other features of the Arlo Ultra system are geofencing, two-way audio, so you can communicate with whomever you’re seeing on the camera, a 12X zoom lens, the ability to take a snapshot of the camera’s current image, and a spotlight which can be turned on either by detection of motion or from the app itself if you should want to illuminate the area covered by the camera for a short while. There is also an alarm with a very piercing sound that can be activated by motion if you choose to enable that. One of this camera’s best features is also one of its drawbacks, in my opinion. It is battery-powered, so there is no need to run power wiring to it, which makes installation MUCH simpler and permits placing the camera in many locations that would not be suitable for a wired camera. But this also means that, wherever you mount the camera, you’ll be going back up the ladder periodically to take it down and recharge the battery, something you never have to do with camera whose power source is hard-wired. In my opinion, the compact-ness, versatility, and ease of mounting far outweigh the need to periodically take the camera down for a recharge. I have been using the camera for about a week, and it’s still using up the initial, 50% charge the battery had when I took it out of the box. At this rate, I’m guessing I’ll need to recharge it maybe every two or three months, which is not much of an inconvenience. The camera is indoor/outdoor, and over the week I've had it up, we've had one rainstorm. The camera was not affected. Overall, I highly recommend this camera if you’re looking for a high quality, easy to use, simple to set up, and versatile security camera system. Get additional cameras, and you can have full coverage in and/or around your house.

This is a great wireless camera combination, and I'd recommend it if you've been looking for a new or additional security measure for your property. The video quality is great but should be noted that higher-resolution transmission does take a bit longer to load. There is a slight delay in starting the companion app, but this is to be expected. The home base station is nice but does need to be plugged into an ethernet line to work properly. This Arlo camera is small and light, and mounting it is a breeze. The only real gripe that I have, overall, is that the Arlo cloud servers are only provided for 1-year. After your cloud storage trail is up, you'll need to pay for that service. Overall, if you don't have any other camera systems in your house, or if you're already integrated with Arlo, then this is a perfect option for you. There's a reason Arlo is such a powerful name in the home security department.

    Easy Installation, Great Quality Camera

I am a long time Arlo security system user. I recently received from Arlo an Ultra 4K HDR wire free system in exchange for an honest unbiased review. So here goes..... Installation was simple and connections complete within 10 minutes of opening the box. I must add though, I already had the Arlo app installed and working on my phone for my previously purchased Arlo system. Once connected to my router, the new Ultra system appeared in the app and the new Ultra camera appeared under new system without a hitch. The picture and video quality of the Ultra camera is excellent. There are zooming in and out capabilities and when zoomed in the picture quality is clear and crisp. There are several enhanced features available in the Ultra system. For starters, there is audio capability. I can talk back and forth to someone in the room remotely. Love the option of remotely hearing and participating in conversations in the room via Arlo. There is a light feature that can be activated to illuminate the viewing and monitored area. This is activated within the Arlo app and is a very nice feature. Setting adjustments are available in motion detection mode to allow a specific area be designated to activate recording. You can also set the sensitivity level so something as simple as a plant moving in the air doesn't set off the motion detection. The best feature in my opinion is the rechargeable battery. Supposedly the batteries last 3 to 6 months depending on activity. I have had my camera active for a week and the batteries are at 98%. The only improvement Arlo could have made here is that the flat part of the camera where the charging unit connects should have been at the bottom of the camera so that the camera could stand on it's own and record without recording upside down. In it's current design in order for the camera to stand on it's own without the mounts the viewing is upside down . An audio alarm is available that is activated remotely to intimate an intruder. I have not used this feature, so cannot attest to the volume or effectiveness of the alarm. There is an e911 option that will call 911 when activated. Overall I love the new camera and am planning to add another one to the system. Highly recommend for a no hassle, easy install, clear video security option.

Awesome Camera, Great Functionality, Super Easy

Overall, this product is awesome. I was a little skeptical at first, but as soon as I opened the box and configured it, I was blown away. The setup couldn't have been any easier. Out of the box, plug in a hub, charge the battery, and you're off. The Arlo app walks you through each step of setup and configuration. Mounting the camera was super easy and the strong magnet in the camera made it steady, but easy enough to remove. Configuration required some bit of tuning, but the product allows for enough tweaking that it performed great for me. I was able to set up alert zones for movement and specifically ignore spots where "noise" was to be expected. In an outdoor environment, I drew the lines around my walkway and it recognized daily activity without error. Setting up the alerts was great because I received a notification on my phone anytime movement was detected in the zone. The camera quality is probably the best part of the product. The video streams were clear and detailed in both a daylight and nighttime environment. Connectivity with the Hub was never a problem even at a decent range. We even deployed the camera at one point we thought there was a mouse in our home, and it detected motion in the middle of the night. We were able to tell exactly when and where the mouse was coming out! Battery life on the camera was exceptional within the month we've had it deployed and we've only had to charge it a couple of times. With the 4K stream, I would expect the user needs to ensure they have enough bandwidth on their network, but our basic internet package handled it seamlessly without any disruption to our normal activities. While the price point for this product is not cheap, the real value comes in terms of expansion to multiple cameras and the high quality video capabilities. This would undoubtedly serve as a higher-end monitoring solution with the ease of wireless capability. You will likely want to continue a subscription for storage after the free period, but I think it is well worth the cost for a product of this quality. Arlo provided me with this product free of charge, but the content and my opinion expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product and nothing else.

    Easy to use camera system

I received this unit free of charge to review from Arlo. The content and opinions expressed are my own and based on my experience with the product. With that said, I had quite a hard time getting the camera to connect to the base. Once I finally did get it connected, the video stream was extremely slow. At some points the video would freeze, and I could only hear audio. This was happening when I was at a distance of less than 5 feet away from the base, so range was not the issue. After messing with the hub and settings for about 30 minutes I was prompted to upgrade the firmware. After the update was applied the video issues stopped and everything appeared to be working as it should. I picked a spot to mount the camera over the door to the patio looking out into our backyard. The mount to the camera appears strong and sturdy, but the fact that the mount is only held onto my house by one screw and a tiny plastic clip is a little unnerving. I feel like Arlo should come up with a better way to secure the mount to the mounting point. It’s holding fine for now, but time will tell how long that will last. Video quality overall is very good. Picture during the day is clear and crisp. Quality at night or low light takes a dip, but that’s to be expected. The 180-degree view is really impressive with how much of my back yard I can capture. The spotlight works better than I expected it would. It illuminates a large portion of my yard at night. Motion detection seem to be pretty spot on. I do get the occasional false alert. Mostly at night when a big bug flies by the camera. I was able to capture a large dog walking through my yard and the camera was able to tell me that the motion it picked up was from an animal which was impressive. Two-way communication works as expected. Not bad quality, but not the greatest. Battery life is very good. I’ve had the system set up for about a week now and the charge as only dropped about 6%. I have yet to experience any loss of connection or video drops. All in all, I’ve had a positive experience with the Arlo Ultra. I’m going to be looking into to purchasing another camera to mount at the front of my house. The initial set up was a bit rocky, but so far that has been the only hiccup I’ve encountered.

Good features, but consider Arlo Pro or Pro 2

Overall, this is a good camera, with lots of features and good quality hardware, but the value is just not there compared to the other Arlo Pro cameras which cost much less, or other offerings from Nest (if you are ok with wired options) Although the camera includes a free one-year free service subscription, I don't think I'll renew it after it expires, as the additional features (compared to the free offering available with the Pro/Pro2) is just not worth it. Also, the battery life is very short, so you should plan to invest in a solar panel or hard-wiring options if you plan to mount outdoors. I setup the Arlo Ultra as a replacement for an existing Arlo Pro in the exact same location. I also have an Arlo Pro 2. The additional features and resolution you get from the Ultra are not worth the additional cost or the subscription fee after the initial one year free service is over. Without the Arlo Ultra paid subscription, you're really not getting much more than what is already available in the Pro or Pro 2. The camera is advertised as 4K, but the reality is that 4K only applies to local network streaming and recording. Cloud streaming and recording is only at 1080. The package delivery and zooming features are still beta and don't work well. The person/vehicle identification works, but the camera only notifies you that there is a person/vehicle, and you have to open up the app and stream to see who the person/vehicle is. The spotlight is bright, but very short range, only 5-6 feet at most. Don't expect this to light up your driveway or anything at night. The battery life on the ultra is bad compared to the Pro/Pro 2. I noticed about 10-15% battery drop in the first day after I setup the camera in the same location where my Arlo Pro's battery would last 6 weeks before I get the low battery warning. I suspect some of that is because the Ultra's motion sensitivity is more "sensitive" compared to the Pro, even at the same settings, which of course impacts battery life. I went out a purchased the solar panel accessory, since I don't want to be climbing up the ladder every week to swap batteries. Unfortunately, the batteries and cables used for the Ultra are not compatible with the prior Pro/Pro 2 batteries and cables. Thankfully the Ultra still has the same screw mount compatibility so you can re-use your existing mounts from your Pro/Pro 2 cameras. I'm also experiencing some issues with the Ultra staying connected to the hub base station, which I did not have with the Pro. I'm not sure what's causing the disconnects, but I suspect the Ultra's reception is not as strong as the Pro. I would rate this higher at 4 stars if the purchase price and/or annual subscription price were lower. As is, the Ultra is just not a good value at this price point compared to Nest offerings, except for Arlo's wireless capabilities.

Wireless and 4K Image Camera with Great APP

Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. I have always wanted to get security cameras for my house due to the frequent reported cases in our neighborhood and personal car break-in event on our drive way. It was great that Arlo Ultra offers exactly what I’m looking for. The camera is wireless and has 4K resolution and is supported by strong software that offers many handy features. This product comes with 1 hub, 2 wireless cameras and batteries, 1 indoor and 1 outdoor mount. It was quick to set up the hub by connecting the Ethernet cable to the router and a power adapter to power outlet. Wireless cameras are also easy to set up. The camera has 180 degree view so we don’t have to worry too much about the viewing angle as it covers lot of areas such as our entrance, drive way, front yard, and the side walk. And because of that, it was fairly fast for us to pick the mounting area and decide where the camera is facing. The installation can be done within 10 minutes if the right tool is used. I found Arlo App very user friendly. It categorizes the recorded movements into few buckets such as animal, person, vehicle, or motion and the app saves these movements into the video library for replay. It also offers live real time functions that you can turn on the siren, light, or audio talk functions on the camera through the App to scare away any strangers if necessary. The battery either has large capacity or is designed to be used very efficiently. The camera was installed 5 days ago and its battery life is still at 90% even though we have checked the App every few hours. Overall, I love this product. The camera is wireless, easy to assemble and install. It has wide angle and offers crystal clear image. The camera is supported by easy to use software that offer features to the home owner that cares the most.
