Very good security camera system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like the Arlo security camera. It was packaged very nicely and while it didn't have a ton of written directions, once you put the app on your phone, it walks you through set up really well. I have a few minor complaints. First, it appears that you have to have a wired connection between the base station and your internet router. This is probably to support a stronger signal, but it just adds to the clutter of devices huddled around our router. Second, the screw that is included to secure the magnetic mount to the wall is tiny. It was a little difficult to drill into my porch's ceiling. I was able to get a mostly solid mount, but I think I stripped the screw in the process. The magnetic connection between the camera and the mount feels solid, but as other reviewers have mentioned, it does make me worry that someone could just snatch the camera (which of course would not be a minor issue). Third, the Arlo system comes with a year long subscription to some type of advanced features suite. Being new to home surveillance systems, it was not entirely clear to me if this subscription is necessary for expected functioning and what features I would lose without the subscription. Lastly, I do get a lot of notifications on my phone from this system. So while you can adjust the notifications (and notification of people appearing on the camera is kinda the whole point), it can become a little annoying. Aside from those issues, I really like the system. While we don't live in an area where I am very worried about crime, the system has given me a new sense of the comings and goings of our family. I know now when each kid gets home from school, when the mail comes, when a package gets dropped off, and when my indoor cat escaped to the outside! The little thumbnail on my phone let's me know what's happening. Now all they have to do is something funny and we will have internet gold. The video and sound quality is very good. No complaints there. The LED light that comes on when the camera senses movement at night is really handy. It's not a flood light, but enough to find your keys on an otherwise dark porch. The camera runs on battery and it has lasted three weeks before requesting a charge (yes it tells you when it needs charging!), so that shouldn't be a major issue. So this has been a good addition to help turn our old house into a smart home. Arlo provided me with this product free of charge, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product.

An Ultra Headache
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No piece of tech have I ever been more frustrated with than the Arlo Ultra 4K HDR Security System. I purchased my 2-camera package from Best Buy on first launch. By now, anyone aware of the Arlo Ultra knows how disastrous it was. I had everything boxed up, ready to return. When I heard that Arlo promptly released updates and pulled the product from shelves, though, their mea culpa was enough for me to give the Ultra another go. After updating the hardware, I was very pleased with my experience. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a decided improvement. However, with the latest updates released for the relaunch, I’m right back at frustration. Prior the latest updates, the Arlo Ultra’s motion detection was superb. It captured events as small as a bird flying across my front lawn to people riding bikes on the street. That is no longer the case. Events that were routinely captured before--even events occurring within 8 to 10 feet of the camera--are being missed entirely. When activity triggers a recording, some videos start well after the motion has already begun or some videos cut off before the motion has stopped. This isn’t good if you’re relying on the Arlo Ultra for security. (The only way to ensure that all events are captured--and captured in full--is to fork even more money over to Arlo for their CVR add on. The company, however, does not provide a way for you save videos from the CVR.) There is lag, on both audio and video. On average, it’s around 3 seconds. (It has been as high as 7 seconds, though.) People ring my doorbell before they show up on the live video feed. Two-way communication is like those awkward cable news interviews with audio delays. Technically, the Arlo Ultra houses the ability to capture 4K video. Don’t expect the same quality as any other 4K device you’re accustomed to, though. It is near impossible to make out a vehicle’s license plate 15 to 20 feet away using the local 4K live stream or referencing the recorded clips on the SmartHub’s memory card. The video quality is good, but not 4K quality. The speaker volume is insufficient. During the few times that I’ve attempted two-way communication, the individuals at my house found it very difficult to hear me. In fact, the speaker volume is so lackluster that I trigger the siren just to see if the neighborhood kids playing in my front yard react. Generally, they don’t. When they do, they look around to find the sound, yet never look at the Arlo Ultra. For those who are curious about my set up, the Arlo Ultra is positioned 11 feet off of the ground on the front of my house, 18 feet away from the SmartHub, and plugged in for constant power (because the batteries cannot make it a month). I have Motion Detection set to 100, Power Management set to Best Video, and Speaker Volume set to 100%. Internet speeds are 930 down, 43 up. I contacted Arlo support regarding a number of these issues. The only help they could provide was "Can you move your Arlo Ultra closer to the SmartHub?" and "The motion that you’re trying to detect is outside the 25 foot limit." If it wasn’t outside the return window, the Arlo Ultra would be gone. I regret not returning on first launch as I had intended. There have been too many issue and too much time wasted on this system. Don’t be Arlo’s beta tester.

It does exactly what it says!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, let me say I have fiber to the premise at my home which means that I need the 5g camera as the lower band doesn't work. These cameras are still hard to find. I like ths security system because it has a hub that I hard wire to my modem, so no dead zines in my home. The camera was easy to set up and unlike anotherr brand I had it was no problem setting it up on my phone. Notifications are as frequent as you choose. I can set up a custom time for the week when the cameras are monitoring. Basically a lot of thought went into the design and function of the Arlo, and for me it's well worth it

Great added Security
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying: Arlo provided me this product free of charge, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. That said, in order for it to work, I did need to purchase a WiFi extender so not completely free. I most likely would not have purchased it, if not free, but now that I have it, I'm thinking of adding a second one outside my house in the back (first one is outside the front door). I found the set up to be pretty straight forward with the iphone app. I think the hardware itself seemed to be constructed well, and camera images even at night are good. In terms of the software, whenever I thought it would be nice to do this, say have it turn off during the day when I was home, I found a way to use the app to do what I wanted. I thought the software features were quite good as well. My two minor issues is, that it would have been nice if the base station had two WiFi chips, one to connect to the home WiFi and another for the camera, so it did not have to be hard wired to the router. The other issue is that the bracket does not set the position, so when you take it down to charge, you have to re-position each time. That said, the battery life has been better then I expected. Overall I would recommend this product, for basic home security and found it pretty straight forward to set up, even for an old guy like myself.

Pretty good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's a lot of pro's but some con's as well. Ease of installation and setup are great. Video quality is decent. I have a crazy fast internet connection and even on the same network as the cameras I dont see what I would call a 4k image but its not bad quality. Main issues I have is battery life isnt good at all and there is a lot of lag from when the camera gets a notification to when it notifies you to when it finally pulls up the image.

Latest and greatest from a networking gear company
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo is a Netgear brand. If you are not familiar with Netgear, it’s a networking company known for router products. That’s one of the big reasons I’m interested in their security cameras. Arlo has one of the most comprehensive line of security cams and accessories I’ve seen. The Ultra has some nice features like 4K and HDR advanced image quality technology, wide angle 180 deg. view with no “fish eye effect” and a built in spot light. A rechargeable, replaceable battery, is included in the box. Battery life suppose to be 3-6 months. I didn’t realize there’s a Battery Access Button on the cam to open it up. Once open I inserted the rechargeable battery. I used a nearby electrical outlet to power the cam in the mean time. Arlo can be expanded with multiple cams. So in a way it’s future proof. I tested it with a low light, night time, environment outside my front door. No glare and very sharp images very much appreciated. Field of vision good. I can see quite a bit of my condo landing outside my front door. Base station has a built in siren which I have never seen before. Installation using the mobile app was very easy. But I have installed another one of these devices before. I’m not aware of other smart home devices that work with the Advanced Smart Hub (Base Station) but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. There are many ways to mount the cam. Be sure to check out options. Don’t think you will be disappointed. Base station makes it easy to switch routers. And you might if you move someday. So far I’m very pleased with how things are going. Recommend this product be given a close look if you want a security camera for indoor or outdoor use.

Best on market
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just picked up Arlo Ultra 4 pack (previously using Pro system). Ultra is a huge step up. Video quality is amazing (so is audio), new design is impressive, moutning system now allows a lot more freedom (even ceiling mount - cameras are heavier but magnet is also stronger than Pro), and the spotlight is a game changer. Have one on front door, one in backyard, one on side fence, and put one in the kitchen to watch my house when I am away. Field of view is amazing, captures the whole room from a shelf without distortion. Initial setup showed a connection issue but new firmware solved that and the system is solid (many early reveiws were on original firmwar that had an issue - why do companies release product that starts off bad?). I'll be picking up solar panel for the front door cam... new magnetic connector on bottom of camera for power is slick. App is simple to use... also connected the cameras to my Google Home Hub for quick control and views. Also works with Alexa but I havent tried that yet. Includes Arlo Smart which is pretty cool... detects objects and cuts down on notifications - so I can receive only when a person approaches my front door (filters out tress, wind, etc). Includes E911 as well which I have not set up yet. Arlo just upped the game - everything you would want to protect you house. Great product and service.

Amazing Camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friend and family program but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. The Ultra is an awesome camera with the latest advance features mentioned in the description. This is my first Arlo camera. I like this camera because it act likes a home security system. You can zoom in to see sharp details and a spotlight that will light up when motion is detected. You can talk 2-way audio and can turn on the built-in siren to scare away strangers. It was a breeze to set up. Simply download the Arlo app, create an account and follow the prompts. You can save images using local storage via microSD card slot in the base station. This camera is expensive but it’s worth it for all the cool features. I would recommend buying this camera if you’re serious about protecting your property and sending a clear crisp colored picture of a burglar to the police.

NOT READY FOR THE BIG SHOW
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The horror started the minute I plugged everything in and connected the first camera. I never owned a Arlo or Arlo Pro 2 (even though I feel like I should of), but this system is truly not ready. I currently have altice one in the long island area. I pay for 200/35 and have my xbox connected to it (hardwired) with no problem. I went to connect the Arlo new "smart" base station and it gave me a blue light, so I thought I was okay. As soon as I connected my camera and started using features such as Live stream and 4k, the base station began to blink red and the camera shut offline, couldn't do anything after that point. I went ahead and reset the router and base station. Same problem. Checked online and tried to mess with router settings with no luck. Called customer care and no luck, she could barely understand English. Sadly I am returning these cameras as I wanted them to work but they never even showed live streaming for more than 1 minute. When it did work 4k image was ehh, not the 4k you would expect after spending $999.99. The signal strength that other's have complained about is also true. I walked to the back of my small house(20 ft away from the base station) and saw the signal greatly diminish....and then it shut off again. The camera's feel good and the charging of the cameras are quick.

Great product!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We are huge fans of the Arlo security cameras and we have advised many of our friends and family to acquire the system because of how awesome it is. I feel like the Arlo Ultra is a massive improvement from the Arlo Pro system and we LOVE the Pro so that is saying a lot about this system. These are a few reasons why this system is a huge improvement from the Pro: - The software is faster - It was very easy to install - The packaging is very simple, sleek and well thought out - It has a better response rate or catches movement faster - The charging port is a huge plus, it's a really neat update - It can detect what the movement is (is it a person, animal or object moving) - It has a flash light option - The app is very easy to use - The video quality is stellar, you can see fine details - Overall this product feels high-end. It was really well designed and you can tell a lot of thought went into it. Overall, well worth the price tag. **Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product.

Much Improved
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm upgrading from the first gen Arlos which are pretty good but these are a big step up. I'm no techie but installation has always been easy and I've never had a problem with the software. This new model has improved image clarity, improved battery life, and the spotlight is very cool. Seems like it would be a small spotlight but it has a pretty good spread. Definitely will alert trespassers to keep walking. Range could be better but with all the improvements, I'm sticking with it and will keep an eye out for the firmware updates.

Excellent security system - super easy to install!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have installed a few different wireless cameras in my house including an old Arlo HD and Alro-Q. I must say this new Arlo-Ultra is very easy to install and much more usable than the previous two camears. The Arlo HD runs out of those disposable batteries very quickly so most of the time they are not in use till I spend the time to recharge the aftermarket batteries. It is just a hassel. The Arlo-Q requires a physical wire so it is limited to a space near a power outlet so I can't really place it where I really wanted. The Arlo-Ultra solves all the problems I have. After 3 months of usage, the Ultra is still running without need to recharge and the picture quality is great. The new base station also allows me to plug in a micro SD card so I can just record directly to it. This is now my favorite security solution for my house. Highly recommended if you are looking for a simple, easy to use, reasonable priced and reliable security system for your home. Arlo provided me with this product free of charge, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product.

Elegant cameras with true smart features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. Arlo Ultra is my first true smart home product and pleasantly it is very easy to install. It is an elegant peace and never less to say that it adds style to the home. Took hardly 30mins to unpack and setup base station and cameras. Configuring cameras to my need in arlo mobile app was little fun and there were nice options to play with. I wish it was more intuitive and handy videos are provided with tailored needs using Geofencing and custom modes. Intelligent features like notifying when there is only a person movement and setting Activity zone along with custos modes will reduce number of unnecessary notifications drastically. Add on features as integrated spotlight, siren and 2way audio make it wholesome pack. 4K resolution, night vision and 180-degree coverage are best features. Installed one at home entrance corridor and another in living area. I feel my loved ones are safer than ever.

Take your money elsewhere.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cameras work and are decent quality. Arlo as a company and the app itself are the biggest reasons for the negative value on this item. Arlo consistently stops supporting older hardware after a short time period, increases prices nearly every year, and removes features with little to no warning. The app takes ages to connect and oftentimes I've already talked with whomever is at the door before I even get notified that they're there.

Arlo Ultra - Novice Customer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the new Arlo Ultra (2) camera security system. I consider myself a novice when setting up anything dealing with technology. The Arlo Ultra cameras by far are the easiest to setup. I downloaded the Arlo app and it took me 10 minutes to install and update software. I was going out of town the next day so I setup cameras quickly by my front door and in the backyard so that I could see my dog. I'm using the app on an android phone and the quality of video is excellent. The night vision quality is great and has a flash light that when turned on it lights up the whole courtyard. The sensors can be easily adjusted. I didn't have time to fully charge the batteries when leaving town for 3 days and the cameras worked like a champ. So far I am happy with the Arlo Ultra cameras. If you are in the market for security camera Arlo is the best!! Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product.

A lot of potential, but falls short
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me get the PRO out first: * Wire free is the biggest plus for this system. Always nice to be able to install anywhere around the premises without worrying about network cable or power. * Easy to install, especially with the indoor magnet mount. * Looks great, compact and modern looking. Now lets get to the CON sides: * Two of the camera were attached to Arlo Solar Panel. One of them shutdown automatically due to overheating. After it cooled down, battery start draining at like 10x the speed. Prior to the overheating, camera didn't have issue staying fully charged each day. After overheating, it can barely stay above 40% each evening. * Motion sensor not sensitive enough when you wish it is, but way too sensitive when it shouldn't. I can walk by the camera back and forth, it may pick up motion 1/2 of the time. But on a windy day, it will be triggered left and right when the leaves flop around. Or in the evening when insect flies by/around the camera. * Smart detection is a great concept, and work about 80% of the time. Occasionally it will mis-classified car as pet or dog as people. Remaining of the time, it failed to identify the object. * Magnet mount is great, but not suitable for outdoor. Regular mount is sturdy, but angle usually shift slightly when you tighten the knob. * There are no security of any sort built in to reduce chance of theft. Anyone can just walk by and snapped it off. You can place the camera higher, out of easy reach, but video you recorded will not be ideal due to steep angle or may not be as sharp due to distance. * HomeKit support is mediocre and no HomeKit Secured video support. You are forced to subscribe to their cloud storage plan to use the device. * App sucks. When you received a notification, tap on it, and you are stuck staring at a blank screen for a while waiting for the video to be download. The least you can do is show a thumbnail or something. This not even count the slow app launch, slow FaceID verification, and occasionally take you to the wrong tab. Worst of all is support. Reported my malfunctioning camera after the overheating issue to support, still to no avail after a few weeks of back and forth. Each time they will send you a laundry list of things to try, to test, and personal info to provide (e.g. address, phone number, video recording, screenshot, etc). You go thru the hassle to capture all the info and send it back, only to get a response back a week later with another laundry list. Repeat that a few times, and you will get the picture of the efficiency. This is not to mentioned that my first report of issue submitted via arlo.com went unanswered for over a week. Finally get the ball rolling after a 90min waits for online chat.

Great cameras for home security
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received these cameras for free from the Friends and Family Program. These cameras are easy to install and setup. After you set up your account and download the app to your phone, you can set notifications and time/day of recordings. I like the 180 degree view which goes from the side of my garage door to the other side of my house, which probably saved me from getting another camera for that part of the house. The day time images are very clear and sharp. The integrated spotlight helps color recording at night instead of black and white, it saved me from getting an additional outdoor spotlight for the same purpose. The speaker was great that I can talk to my kids outside from my computer after logging in to my account. I noticed that I was not able to use my phone to speak to the speaker, I am not sure if it was the wifi connection of my phone or something else. All and all I think these are great little cameras that cover most of my need.

Improved system, but leaves me wanting more.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used Arlo Pro cameras in the past and was impressed for what they offered at the price point, so I was excited to try out the ultra. The BIGGEST selling point of these is the wireless feature. That’s what brings me back to Arlo... the convenience. Sure, it’s difficult to continually stream, have to recharge every once in awhile, etc... but you can’t beat it for those awkward spots where you don’t have access to a plug. Setup was a breeze for me, but I have previous experience with the Arlo software and app, so I found it intuitive. After a few minutes and I was ready to go. Streaming left something to be desired... advertising says 4K, but I’m not so sure it’s actually streaming in 4K... maybe it’s my networks fault, it looked good, but not 4K good. Giving 3 stars due to higher price point, and not quite up to par with those cameras in that are in higher price point.
