Wouldn’t recommend
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this camera because I’ve been eyeing security camera setups with quality video. Was going to go with another brand, but decided to stick it out and buy these since they are 4K, have local storage, spotlight etc. Let’s start by saying I have constant 250mbs internet so that couldn’t be a problem. So as far as setup, super simple literally plug and play. But once everything was connected near the Base station I went to move the camera to different distance to check for connection issues if any. I moved I would say from 5ft away to about 20 ft away in the same room no walls and it went from excellent to fair. And as soon as I went outside around 45ft disables the camera. Next when checking the quality of the video it honestly didn’t even look like 1080 let alone 4K. And finally when I tried to randomly check up on cameras they would keep loading and never produced videos. Mind anyone who’s reading the cameras are still in the same room within a 20ft range of the base station. Maybe they’ll work out the kinks and make it better but for now I’ve already returned mine.

Needs work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I had bought the Arlo Pro 2 kit back in December. I was not overly impressed with video quality but for being wireless it was good. I then noticed the Ultra was coming out so I returned what I had bought and purchased the Ultra 4 pack. The video quality is definitely better on all fronts. Issues I had with the Pro 2 was the ability to get full WiFi signal. After some manuvering I was able to get full signal on one camera. So today I got the Ultras and hooked the hub where the Pro 2 hub was and can’t get full signal to the camera that once had full signal. The other camera I had out in front of my house can’t even get signal where the Pro 2 had 2 of 3 bars for WiFi. And to also point out I have good WiFi in my house with an eero setup as well. I have 179 down mbps. I find this to be a huge disappointment given they can’t keep the same quality and improve from before. Granted the image quality is better but what’s the point if the signal is junk. Very disappointed. Arlo has 45 days to figure this out or I will be returning and going to Nest as my gut told me before ever buying any cameras.

Easy to Use Security Camera System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a fantastic security system with cloud based storage. The 4K camera has great resolution, allowing one to zoom in and view video and pictures with clean imagery. I really like the night vision and the integrated light. The system is easy to install and set up by just following the app on one's phone. Captivity zones are easy to set up on the app. Notifications are timely and you can easily review a month's worth of videos as they are posted by date. Battery life is exceptional. If you tend to like written instructions, be aware that Arlo relies on the app to lead you through the installation. Arlo provided me this product free of charge, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product.

Great....Not so Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When this camera is working, it works great. But there always seems to be something wrong with it. Sometimes it is set off by nothing and sometimes it doesn't even go off, even if motion is right in front of it. I have it record, but not notify and I've had it notify, but not record. It can be very frustrating. It does work best if it is constantly plugged in. You will get a greater range for sure. Batteries don't last nearly as long as what I had read. I don't think I would recommend this. It is a lot of money for something that is so temperamental.

Fantastic set of cameras. Need app improvements
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. Setup was a breeze. I was able to connect my old Arlo Pro to the new Ultra base station without any hazzle. Camera clarity is great. Have not explored the activity zones, biggest plus with Arlo Smart is the way it can differentiate between pets and people. I would have given 5 stars, the only reason for holding off 1 star is the app and homekit support. We have heavily invested in Apple Eco system and when the product was announced, it said it will have Homekit support, but it is still not supported. Hopefully the next firmware update will enable homekit support. App needs to be refreshed, still few missing features.

Too expensive for what needs improving 05/14/19
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start with let me be clear. I really wanted this to work. I mean REALLY wanted it to work. The specs looked great. The wirefree ability, 180 degree views, 4K pictures, floodlight, night vision etc was totally what I was after. Many have written about the positives, so rather than waste time recovering those areas, let me update you with my personal findings and the reason I HAD to return my 4 camera Ultra set. Firstly, I had the very latest firmwares installed. I followed all the recommended setup instructions and also posted on the Arlo help forums when issues occurred, yet no one was able to help. Issues: 1) Despite having a measured internet speed at the various camera locations of around 25Mbs, together with an at the router line speed of 55Mbs, there was a HUGE lag in the system. The cameras were approximately 20-75ft from the base station, yet all the cameras had a lag of approximately 15-25 seconds when on 4K and 7-15 seconds when on standard resolution. This made 2 way conversations impossible, combined with alerts coming through about 2 seconds after triggering but then taking 30 seconds to see what had triggered them. By which time the courier had already left before I could get to them. This was the greatest fundamental flaw and made it unviable to own for me. 2) The floodlight is pathetic. It’s not much brighter than a cell phone light. Ring’s Floodlight cam is miles better. 3) The batteries lasted around 2 weeks with average to higher activity areas. I can’t imagine that 3 - 6 months is even remotely realistic unless there are no triggers whatsoever. In which case, do you need the cameras in the first place? 4) This isn’t clear from the box or literature.... The 4K is only available if you are logged in to the same network as the base station. If you are remote, you can only get the lower 1080 quality. Likewise, the 4K isn’t massively better quality than the 1080 in the first place. 5) If like me you intend to use your cameras in different countries (bringing them with you when you travel), make sure you register them first in the US. I brought them unopened to the UK and then found that the 1 year cloud back for free, only allowed me 1 month, as the device detected that I was in the UK. When I returned to the US, it would not return to the advertised 1 year of free cloud use : ( 6) The speaker on the cameras and the alarm are ridiculously quiet. The siren would not wake my dog inside the house if the windows were closed. The siren could be on 24/7 and unless your neighbours lived came out of their house and lived less than 20ft away, I’d suggest that they’d never know the siren was on, especially if there was any background road noise. 7) You can record to a micro SD card but you have to manually remove the SD card and insert it into another device to view its contents. You cannot play the contents through the Arlo app. Again this is such an oversight and could have so easily been integrated in to the app but I’m guessing Arlo don’t want you to have easy access, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to charge you the high subscriptions and make money for nothing. 8) Unit cost. This is far too expensive at the current $999 for 4 cameras. If it were all working as claimed I’d say $800 was fair but given that much didn’t work as well/if at all as claimed, I’d say $4-500 would be reasonable. Arlo need to really pull their finger out to make this meet the claims that they boast. Some may be corrected by updates but the floodlight and speaker are probably just under sized, even on max settings. 9) Subscriptions. It’s not obvious from the box that on top of paying for the Premier Smart package fees, if you want to record to the cloud in 4K, you’ll have to pay IIRC $1.49/camera/month extra. That’s another $72 a year on top of approximately $80 a year for the basic package. Conclusion - I’d recommend you avoid Arlo Ultra until the Company rectify these issues unless you live in Tokyo and you and your neighbours have a houses made of paper. Any brickwork restricts the signal so badly to render the lag insurmountable. Arlo get a grip. You’ve improved the Ultras from the original rushed to market early this year, when I out had to withdraw these units from the marketplace due to issues but you’ve barely made them useable, let alone market leading. I’ve read a number of reviews where the authors say stick with Arlo Pros and save your money. alas, I’d have to agree.

Great Cam System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used the Arlo Pro 2 and recently upgraded to the Ultra 4K, and I like the system. I have not had any issues with connectivity, the picture quality is insane and colored night vision "wow". I have read alot of issues regarding the connection, maybe you all need to upgrade your service and speeds? You can not have the best without the correct support system to run it. The batteries are lasting 1 month before charge so I will need to adjust those for more life but overall I like the wireless system.

Excellent camera system for home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disclosure: Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. I got this camera system and set it up through the Arlo app. The setup was very intuitive and quick; I had it up and running right out the box with no hiccups. I set one camera in the front hallway of my house and with it's wide angle lens, it had a view of everything. The motion detection on the camera is top notch as it was able to detect people and animals as they walked through the hallway. The night vision was really nice as well, giving a crisp image even in the complete dark. I placed the 2nd camera in front of my house looking out on to the street. The 2nd camera could see the street from one end to the other. The live stream mode was excellent with 4k resolution. In live stream mode, I was able to use the mic feature which was convenient to talk to a family member remotely, but my only gripe was that in mic mode the other side is muffled, so you may not hear what they're saying back to you unless you mute the mic. Battery life on the cameras have been great and charging is really easy, love the magnetic snap on charger that goes directly on the camera. So far, I'm liking the Arlo Ultra and definitely looking to see what other smart home accessories come out in the future.

Incredible 4K Camera Resolution!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was provided to me free of charge and my review is an honest assessment of this system as I've used it thus far. Initial Thoughts: The quality and finish of the packaging is superb. It's similar to the neat and elegant way Apple packages all of their products. The cameras themselves are sleek and attractive and still maintain their minimal size despite the additional tech packed into them. Everything you need to get started is included in the kit, including two different mounts. Though they're inexpensive to buy separately, I love that two different mounting options are included with the kit. One is the traditional magnetic mount (albeit stronger) and the other is a screw on type mount that provides a bit more theft-security for the camera. Setup: Prior setting up Arlo Ultra, I took down all of my existing Arlo Pro cameras so I could re-add them to the Arlo Ultra base station once it was set up. Simply removing the previous generation Pro cameras from around my house in order to re-sync with Arlo Ultra upon set-up completion was honestly the hardest part of the installation. The Arlo app walked me through all of the steps necessary with no glitches. Each camera took a few minutes to sync with the base station and during the installation process there were a few updates that were required before the cameras would work. A one year subscription to Arlo Smart came with the kit and this too was easy to set up. I'm still experimenting/fine tuning Arlo Smart on my system but currently I have it set up to detect people and pets and so far it does a good job. Battery life is always a concern and the customization features of Arlo Smart seem like a good way to conserve battery life by selectively recording what you want. Stray Thoughts: In the Arlo app when I click on a camera to see a live view, sometimes it takes longer than I'd like. I'm not sure if the fault lies with my own internet connection or with Ultra but it seems to be only a minor problem. The camera charging cable is improved - it's now a magnetic connection. The charger 'snaps' into place magnetically to the exterior of the camera Each Arlo Ultra camera has a built in light and siren. These features are a great addition for home security. $600 for a two camera kit may seem expensive, but when you factor in all of the camera features as well as the one year Arlo Smart subscription, it's definitely a great value.

Updates have definitely made worth buying
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a lot of thought I finally gave the Ultra's a shot even though the mainly negative reviews. Out of the box the cameras have had zero issues connecting or losing signal. I had to update the base and both cameras so I'm sure they are working hard at fixing problems! But I had 0 issues. My cousin who installs security cameras for a living was even impressed. (He came up to help me with positioning the cameras). Well one thing they have not fixed is the ability to zoom in on license plates and read them. With that said all the ways my security has been upgraded because off all these cameras features I'm pretty happy! I will check back in if any problems occur.

Not Ready for Prime Time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have friends with other Arlo products so I am familiar with the operation. Right now I have a bunch of expensive paperweights. Sometimes the cameras record, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes you can do jumping jacks in front of one camera but only the other one farther away and with worse signal records. Even when it works right the alerts take forever. I still have Ring installed and the alerts are near instantaneous. Arlo alerts are coming 10 sec to 5 min after the event. Kind of sad for my Ring to record an event and alert me while my new $1k cameras (2 of which should have caught the event) record nothing. Overall, seems like either a bunch of really bad software bugs, or just a total miss. I am going to give it a couple weeks of updates, after which this is going back. One positive, the video quality is great when it works.

Great purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Best Buy recommended me this pack. I was a bit wary because of the steep price but decided to give it a try since friends have recommended Arlo’s earlier models. As other reviews have stated, setting up the camera was a breeze. I haven’t mounted the camera yet because I wasn’t sure if this was the product for me especially reading some reviews. I’ve seen a few glitches but not horrible. Look forward to some updates for that fix. But seriously, this image quality is unbeatable! The security features are super cool: insanely bright motion-activated spotlight, E911 feature, and siren. They’ve thought of it all. Committing to this great purchase and mounting it first thing tomorrow!

Works Great when it Connects
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was so excited to try out the wireless 4K Unit. Set-Up was straight forward through the app. Took a few moments once you opened the APP it walked you through how to set it all up. Then came firmware updates for the base station and for the camera. This is where things went south. My camera and base station are maybe five feet from each other direct line of sight. The system completed its setup worked for 15... yes 15 seconds and camera disconnected and never connected again. Then while I'm on the phone with support, the base station died and quit working. I have been trying to get it to work for the last 10 days and it just wont recognize the equipment anymore. Hopefully they can fix the issue. But in its current state I cant recommend this product. For the 15 seconds it worked - it had a great picture.

High Quality Cameras That Help You Feel Safe
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arlo has provided me with this product free of charge through a friends and family program, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product. Super high quality video. Exceeded my expectations for a security camera. The wide viewing angle is great. We live in an apartment and with one camera we can see the front entry, kitchen, and living room all at the same time. Two way audio is a great feature both for security and to be able to talk to anyone who is at home. Awesome feature set with a super easy to use app. What’s great is that everything works well and as expected. I feel safer knowing that I have these cameras installed and that I can check in on what is happening at home at any point and know that I will be notified if anything is happening that I should know about. Only complaint was that set up took longer than expected. I had difficulty pairing the cameras to the base station. It finally worked when I put the cameras so close to the base station that they were almost touching. Also the cameras require some calibration to get them to work the way you want them to, but with the app it is super easy to change the settings and adjust sensitivity, video quality, viewing angle, etc. Despite the difficult set up once they were up and running I couldn’t be more satisfied.
