Excellent cameras. They do everything I need a home surveillance.

Disclaimer: I received these Ultra Cameras free of charge through Arlo’s Friends and Family program, but this is a truly honest review of my own experience and opinion of the product, and not influenced by Arlo in any way. I generally don’t use “cutting edge” technology products because they are expensive and complicated. Also, I have a couple of older generation Arlo Pro2 cams (which I did pay for) that have always done exactly what I needed them to do, so I was a bit skeptical of these Ultra’s, they seemed like overkill. But after a few days of use so far, I have to say, I’m honestly pretty impressed! I will continue to update my review if or as my experiences change. Set up was easy (just adding new base station then adding cams). Lots of firmware updates, but that’s normal for any electronics. No failures, no time outs, added 3 new devices and I was up and running. I did have to wait to install while I charged both batteries and there’s only one charging cable, but that was minimal inconvenience to me. Pros: · Image quality in live mode is outstanding. It’s a dramatic improvement over my existing pro2 cams in live viewing · Auto zoom and tracking is really cool. I had the cameras armed and they would keep following my dogs through the yard. The cameras don’t actually move, but they somehow follow the moving object and zoom in until it is out of line of sight, then zoom out again. · Color night vision. My grass is green in the yard at night—not perfect, but much better than B&W. Sometimes I can’t even see what my pro2 recorded at night. · Spotlight is a nifty feature, especially since I don’t have exterior lighting on that side of the house. Cons: · The auto zoom and tracking doesn’t work with 4K. It’s one or the other, not both. That didn’t really affect me, but if feels like I’m being cheated out of something… · Battery life is draining quickly. I need to spend time fine tuning sensitivity to improve this. I had this issue at first with the pro2 as well. · The range between base station and cameras seems to be a little less distance than my other Arlo cams, at least based on the “range” meter when installing. · Service – This isn’t Ultra specific, but I don’t like having to pay for service, but I do because some of the subscription features are cool (notification people vs. animal, packages, etc). Finally, I want to comment on two points. Since the cameras were free, I can’t list this as a pro or con, I just have to comment on it. They’re expensive (even though mine were free). Second is service (Arlo SMART). The cameras do come with 1-year of free service, so that’s a good deal. But if you pay $600 for the cameras, then additional monthly charges are frustrating. From a pure technology and feature set perspective, I definitely think that these cameras are better than my existing Arlo cameras—the new features are pretty impressive. I’m happy with my existing cams, but these are better. But, that has to be weighed against the cost of the camera set. I cannot compare these to other cameras as I have never owned other cameras. But I really like these Ultras—Arlo hit a home run in the high end cameras market, if you can afford to buy them.

Would not recommend this camera set. It fails to perform as described. When you make adjustment for areas you desire coverage and video, this camera just takes video without regard to restrictive settings.

This was easy to set up and it is very good quality product.

This is the second of these 4 camera systems that I will be returning. The first system had one camera that failed about 2 weeks after installation. I spent over an hour on the phone with Arlo tech support for them to determine that the camera was faulty and needed to be exchanged. Unfortunately Arlo charges shipping for you to return the camera to them for replacement so I opted to return the entire system to Best Buy for an exchange. The second system lasted a bit longer. The first camera failed at 3 weeks and then a second camera failed at 3 1/2 weeks. I am going to give this one more shot and hopefully get a set with 4 good cameras.
