Being a happy Arlo customer for years, I couldn't resist when my family member asked if I am interested in participate this program trying out Arlo Ultra cameras at free of charge. Setting up the camera was effortless by following the video on Arlo homepage. But it took me a while to figure out how to add my old Arlo devices on the new hub. Video quality is amazing and a lot of cool functions came with Arlo Smart.

I bought these in January 2019 first release. I did stick with it, figuring they would fix the issues they had. After the upgrades and new release in March 2019, I'm very satisfied with the unit. At first everything was great, but the connection. Now they seem to have fixed that problem. The picture is impressive even at night and the app is easy to use but could use some more updates.

    Best Cameras Ever

I bought the 1st gen cameras several years ago which worked as advertised. I decided to upgrade to the Ultras because of all the added features. There may have been some software issues when these cameras first came out but those issues have obviously been resolved. I hooked mine up and updated them without issue. I haven’t had any problems with disconnections or any new features not working as advertised as others have been complaining about. The clarity is unmatched in my opinion. The spotlight is definitely a huge improvement. The way the cameras track a person is really impressive. If you set these up correctly you cant go wrong. I’m going to recommend these.

    Overpriced & Underwhelming

Bought after using both Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 cameras. Arlo Ultra offers 4k "performance" and markets it as an out of the box performance improvement. Reality is purchasing this expensive hardware only gives you access to their subscription plans that enable the 4k ability. Unless you are willing to pay for 1) Smart Premium service $99 yr PLUS 2) 19.99 per camera per year, you really won't be able to use the 4k capabilities in a meaningful way. On top of that, they only include minimal accessories like magnetic mounts or charging cables and then charge an exorbitant to purchase them seperate. $25 for a basic charging cable. $39 for two cheapo plastic magnetic mounts!? Arlo nickels and dimes more than any other company I've come across. Only after you buy their expensive hardware and get it home do you realize that to take advantage of all the features highly marketed you need MULTIPLE pay subscriptions. My recommendation: Pay for a installer 1 time to run POE HD security cameras OR just stay on the Arlo Pro 2 1080p cameras b/c your Arlo Ultra effectively is a 1080P camera unless you pay for subscriptions.

    Arlo Ultra Rocks!

Recently installed an Arlo Ultra camera and base station in tandem with my Arlo pro system. Installation was easy and when the camera was up and running, the 180 degree mode was just what I needed. My pro camera would not cover the whole patio in my back yard, but the ultra did! Picture quality was superb right out of the box in the daylight. Next test was motion detection and visibility at night. It did not take long for Arlo to pick up motion at 2am during a pitch dark night. I was totally impressed with what I saw when I played the video. The screen went from black to almost daylight (when the light went on) and the video quality was excellent. Arlo also defined the motion correctly by indicating “animal” on the screen. I clearly captured the neighborhood cat prowling for something on my patio. Could not recommend the ultra enough, great resolution, great field of vision, and a great value for my application. Arlo Ultra rocks!

    Connection problems ruin these

I'm an Arlo user and helped a friend set up this newest system at their place since I had experience with the app and cameras overall. After a couple of days they were packed up and taken back to the store. My opinion - Arlo (Netgear) has NEVER placed enough emphasis on fixing glitches in their cameras. My 1st and 2nd gen systems have connection issues, but I supplement mine with another system to fill in the gaps. This $1,000 system is just as buggy (no... MORE) than the 1st generation cameras. During our two days of trying to get them to work - they constantly lost connection to his VERY strong wifi, refused many times to go into live view, and many times had to be re-synced to the base station in order to get them to work after disconnecting. Each time this involves having to take the camera down to do that. Not in the least way convenient. Like me, he has a very good wifi system and NO other products he uses have connections issues with it. This is an Arlo problem that many people experience via forum complains online. Arlo needs to stop worrying about new products and fix the glitches in their existing ones. For now, I would say to definitely avoid this expensive bug.

Ultra 4K camera have clear and crisp resolution

Purchased 6 Ultra 4K cameras to provide security around the full perimeter. The sector selection on this system is easy and provides for several options where I was able to follow my fence line. I get no side movement notification with this system. I only get notified if something gets over or through the fence and they system lets me know if it's a package, animal, or person...how great is that. You can't beat the video of the 4K camera. Only negative is the software is still being updated to provide the same ease and value as the camera system. It would be nice to see thumbnail versions of the video selection instead of going though the videos in sequence. However, I'm sure the techs will get the software right eventually...but the system is so go otherwise, I had to give Ultra 5 stars.

Camera range is dismal - does not work well even within 25 feet of the hub. Recording is far from 4K quality despite having ultra fast internet...not even to the optional SD card App crashes routinely; tried contacting customer support and they were unable to resolve the issue; they escalated it to 2nd level support and I have not heard back (it's been 48 hours) I have had ring cameras for over 2 years and I'm sticking to them. This product has a way to go before its ready to compete.

My wife just had to have these for Christmas, I read reviews and tried my best to talk her out of them. I bought 2 lights, 4 solar panels, 2 ultra cameras. Two of the four solar panels do not charge well at all, I have switched them around, did not help. Both lights work pretty good, only complaint is the motion sensitivity. They show to have adjustable range, but it is more like close or long. They are suppose to trigger the camera, which they do, but with a hell of a lag! Both of the Camera's has DIED!!!! In process of trying to return. Anyone I speak to has such a heavy accent, I cannot understand them. I have received emails which is suppose to have the RMA number. Trouble is, someone forgot to type in the RMA number. I have close to a grand in this system. I may have burnt the money. Do yourself a favor and buy a different brand. Range to the camera is approximately 125 foot, if you set the base station outside! If it goes through walls it is more like 65 feet. Buyer beware!!!!! Only about 1/2 of footage would go to the library before the cameras died. Everything worked close to perfect for about 5 days. JUNK JUNK JUNK!!!!

I have a lot of experience with the Arlo brand. I've had 4 Arlo cameras monitoring the perimeter of my house for well over 2 years. Now that I have my 4k Ultras setup I'm even more impressed with the brand. The ease of use in setting up the Ultra is a breeze and the video quality of the 4k picture is beyond amazing. You just can't beat the feeling of seeing clear recognizable facial features of anyone who comes close to your home. I truly feel that my family is safer now that I have my Arlos monitoring my house while I'm away. Its a great product to have for peace of mind. Arlo provided me with this product fee of charge, but the content and my opinions expressed here are honest and based on my use of the product.

    Deception... disappointment

So, I ordered the Arlo Ultra 4k 4 camera kit and it arrived in one day. I was impressed with the speed of shipping. The system is pretty easy to set up. Cameras are good. What they don't tell you: They are completely crippled until you pay a monthly subscription. For $1000.00 you get live view and motion detection, no recording, no geo fencing, nothing... Buy a driveway alarm and look out the window. Arlo advertises 1 year of smart premier service included with every Arlo Ultra camera. This is a lie. This is not an option anywhere in the site or with customer service. Customer service is in Dubai and they use the C team so there is a language barrier for the 45 mins they argue with you and tell you that you are wrong about the advertised 1 year free service. Arlo has this 1 year free service included in all of their lit on this product. After 45 mins of trying to get this guy to understand English he then tells me the Ultra department is busy and will call back within 30 mins. Nope. No call back. Another lie. After a net search, it would appear that lots and lots of folks are experiencing the same. DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY it will not give you the one year free option. Highly disappointed. I am returning the kit today. I don't do business with liars. It's a scam. I expect MUCH more for $1000... going to a DVR system. Arlo is a scam. Period. Do your www research.... read the threads on the Arlo site. Don't waste your money or time.

So Arlo marked themselves as a security system and with the awesome feature of being able to see if something happens around your house or even inside your house. For example, they show you videos of a porch where a guy is about to steal your amazon packages, but then the over gets a notification and yells at the guy, who then runs away ... Reality is NOT like that - In reality, the cloud and APP for ARLO is way to slow for you to be able to do anything. Sometimes (When worst) you are waiting minutes for the recording to pop-up in the APP. You could just go directly to the preview and try to watch the guy stealing your stuff but connecting can also take 20-60 seconds and with the huge delay you will NOT be able to scare anyone off - simply already too late to do so. And if you thing Arlo support is gonna help you ... naaa, "Bring it back to Bestbuy" - Response time from Arlo support is 2-3 days and using the Live Chat will set you back min. +20 min. before even getting through to them.

Poor because at the end of the day, I had to buy a replacement hub because it failed on it's own. It wouldn't power on. There were no power outages in my area. The hub never moved. So I just had to buy a replacement to make use of the money already invested.

I just had a package stolen from front porch that my $1200 arlo ultra didnt catch because it wont connect, when called tech support and selected the arlo and ultra options was t5old by tech " I donb't support the ultra" after 40 minutes on hold, an email resulted in and executive escalations case, where and email was sent with no way to respond or enter the " requested inputs" about system, then an CS MGR called to simply question why I called CS to start with, ignoring the info about the csr and emails, stated tech was supposed to contact and didnt see where had nor infor on why not done, promised to call back and over a week never did, more emails go unanswered, til VP assigned new employee to call and resolve it he agrees there is no way to respond to issues other than agree it was pathetic, agreed a free system should be provided, needs to talk with his boss, has me wait from fri til this afternoon, calls and "offers" I could return to BB, or they will have me work with their team engineer, wow so all that I went through and they wish to simply get me to troubleshoot their system...ask yourself this , do you want to chance your money and have same thing happen to you... new systems have issues to work out, this wasn't about issues with item, instead pathetic poorly trained csr and tech and execs

Bad batteries and bad customer service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I like the camera and since they are close to the hub, I don't have the connection problems most other customers complain about. However, the batteries are not good and customer service refuses to send me new ones. Both of my batteries charge to 100% when the cameras are brought into my house for recharging. However, as soon as I remove them from the power source the battery percentage drops to 65%. I have called customer service and asked for new batteries and they will not send them to me without lots of testing that I have already done and is very time consuming (it involves pairing/repairing of the devices with the hub and exchanging camera housings etc). Basically they are too cheap to just send me a new battery even though the Ultra cameras are quite expensive compared to the pros. I reluctantly agree with most of the reviews on this website that the customer service is very poor.

    Disappointing Video Quality

I have the Arlo Q and the Arlo Ultra. I tried to post pictures with this review, but my file size was too large. The picture that appears to have better quality is actually from the Arlo Q. I bought the Ultra hoping that I would get better resolution, and both devices are plugged in to line power, not running on the battery. My car was broken into in the parking lot that is less than 20 feet from my window, and my Arlo Q did not have enough resolution to even make out the type of car, so I bought the Ultra hoping that I would see an improvement. It is configured for 4K local streaming, and I can see the 4K symbol while I am streaming from home on the local network. I have been watching it for a few days, and the resolution is, in fact, worse than my Arlo Q. I have ruled out coexistence issues as a root cause by testing each camera with no other wireless networks enabled in the house. I will be returning the cameras when I get the chance.

Stay Away, I purchased this system October 14th and have had several issues with them. The app was easy and installing them was a breeze. The first issue they wouldn't work with a Canadian vpn server, no problem switched and they worked. The next issue one camera wouldn't charge, they advised me to buy a Arlo approved charging cable $50. I actually bought the same cable for $16, Best Buy evens sells this companies products. I finally ordered another charging cable and now one camera keeps losing connectivity. They have Tech support and I have used it , but for the amount of money these things cost, its a waste of money, shop around if you're considering Arlo Ultra
