Great hardware, bad software, policies, and service
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: the hardware is great! Amazed at the quality of the camera images and very easy to install Cons: local storage can only be accessed by main account and main account can only log in from one device. Arlo tries to force you to use their subscription service for the cloud, which I don’t want to do for these reasons: 1) expensive 2) security and privacy 3) minimize data usage since I have data caps where I live Customer service is not that helpful. Software is very buggy Overall: would not recommend since all the issues reduce functionality of the product

Not sure
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the HD system super easy to install and connect but not sure if it is best system for my home. Kinda annoying when you constantly get notifications every time someone goes in or out of house or outside enjoying your yard Don’t want to turn it off because I might miss recording important incident. Wish it was constantly recording instead. Quality is pretty good and camera moves in on motion. Battery life seems good but our $1000 system didn’t include charging base so u must remove a camera to charge or spend more money to buy one. Definitely should be included. It’s a good start but needs fine tuning

Great Cameras/System
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While the reviews prior to 3-24-19 are valid & likely accurate for their time, rest assured that they are no longer accurate today due to FW upgrade release which corrected issues Fantastic Upgrade from Pro or Pro 2. Rough start initially, as I bought my first set on initial launch at BB. Arlo has corrected the major bugs that affected me/us. I bought a second 4 pack once FW improved. Video quality is great, especially with 4k cloud recording upgrade. Currently I have 8 Ultra cams, each with 4k recording upgrade & the video looks great. I might switch 2 to CVR plan once outdoor power cable becomes available. 5 of 8 cams are hooked up to the Solar Panel accessory & they're working great too. Really looking forward to additional accessories becoming available and future FW updates improving the cams even more.

Moving in the right direction...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.-=First Impressions=- You are treated to the typical Arlo presentation. Prepare to open a well presented and secure packaging to protect hardware from damage. Looking at the camera, it's a bundle of glossy white and black plastic, reminiscent of a piano key. They updated the design for the camera housing to a sliding sleeve-like implementation offering a more weather-sealed design by eliminating any ports on the back. Overall great design but I hate the proprietary charging port underneath. Looking through the box you get a magnetic mount, a nice magnetic charger (proprietary… whomp whomp), some screws, and literature. I am not a fan of the new wall mount versus the ball mounts of past models though. The proprietary cord is short and adds another disappointment early on for me. I'm going to have to shell out more cash to find a better solution that currently isn't available for purchase. For now, I will only be able to run this camera in battery-mode which won't last long. The Arlo Hub has also been updated with a new and sleek smaller footprint that eliminates all ports you have on previous models. Way too minimalistic if you ask me since you lose the 2 USB ports in the older base station and get only a micro SD for video recordings in return (whomp whomp). The Ultra base station is backwards compatible with previous Arlo models, but the camera alone is not. If you wanted to save some money and just get an Ultra add-on camera, you are out of luck when trying to just add it to your old system. The app/software is still a bit clunky but it works more often than not. Syncing the cameras to the new base station was quick and painless. The time it takes to connect to the feed seems hit or miss. This could be my network but I doubt it. Even still, I would expect connectivity issues and timing out to have been worked out in the alpha phase of an app. They are still around, but Arlo is doing a great job working on patches. Although many of the major issues have been worked out through firmware updates, I still get annoyed when I try to connect and get a timed out message. XX||- FIX for BASE_STATION_ERROR_4403 -||XX I received the base_station_error_4403 when upgrading the firmware on an Arlo Pro 2 camera, but I resolved this by removing the camera battery and putting it back in. This forced it to resync and it took the firmware update. I also restarted my router and Arlo base station as part of the trouble shooting process before removing the camera battery. Hopefully this will help some of those who are weary of Arlo and these bugs. -=Build=- (8/10) Everything is made of plastic, but still solid. Bright. White. Shiny. Plastic. They are built with affordability in mind. The camera lens bulges out like a frog eye, so just hope you don't drop it when trying to change a battery with the new button release feature. I guess camouflage and blending in wasn't important and still isn't by camera manufacturers. The cameras all yell, "Look at me! Look how pretty I am! I'm watching you…" Hopefully, nice skins are made for this one that won't cause it to overheat. The provided magnetic mount is NOT good for outdoor use since someone can just walk up and snatch your camera. To rectify this, Arlo has included a threaded mounting option for which they do NOT provide. You will need to shell out more money if you want to use these outdoors. Overall, I do not question if these will last. Above average build quality but I do worry about how hot the camera can get recording 4k all day in a high traffic area. Not worried about it blowing up or failing, but heating and cooling rapidly cannot be good for the internals. -=Setup=- (9/10) These cameras were up and running in 10 minutes. If you can install an app on your phone or press a button you have all skills needed to make this work. Mounting where you want them takes the skills of creativity and planning to make sure you are getting the view you want most. All you do is give power to the base, plug the base into your router, and sync the cameras… that easy. The longest part was creating a login for Arlo which took all of 3 minutes. Out of the 10 minutes to get the cameras online, 3 of them you will be making an account unless you already have a Netgear account. If you want to use the Alexa skill, add another minute to setup because you have to link the skill to your Netgear account. I easily integrated my older Arlo 2 Pro and Arlo 2 cameras with the new system. Just press sync and name your camera. -=Things I Love=- +180, 155, and 120 FOV - I love the wide angle options available. I have Arlo Pro 2 and I set the Ultra to 120 for a better match of other cameras. +Audio recording quality - sounds full and realistic. Has noise cancelling built in as well. Nothing records audio better than this camera. +Ease of Use/Setup - this is the fastest camera system I have ever setup. I have use ALL of the other competitors out there. +Spot light - A great addition to a security camera. +Arlo App - this app is the best! I can monitor ALL my cameras live if I want to as if I am in front of a security room with screens for each camera. You can have 2way conversations through the app, make camera adjustments, and zoom all in app. +Video file size - I have over 2 weeks of footage with 4 cameras recording just coming in around 70GB. I predict easily 1 month of recording space on this card before it overwrites. +Third Party Integration - the camera seamlessly integrates with Alexa. I love the ability to say Alexa, show me the backyard and I get a full screen (ON TV!) through my FireTV. It works with the Echo Show and Echo Spot well also. It also supports SmartThings, IFTTT, and Strinfigy too. +AI Arlo Smart - the camera is smart enough to know the difference between a person, animal, vehicle, etc to reduce the number of false alerts. +Doubles as Unmonitored Security System - the Arlo system includes a siren that can be triggered automatically if you set the rules to do so. It offers geofencing so if you are away and it detects you are not in your home, you can set rules to sound a siren much like ADT systems with ear piercing decibels. This could make an intruder think you have an alarm and force them to leave. +Secure Offsite Storage and Easy Downloads of Videos - if someone steals or disables your cameras, the recordings don't go with them. You have them stored online and easily accessible to upload or email to someone in the cloud. Options if you don't like the cloud for your privacy. -=Things to be Improved=- -Lack of outdoor mount - for the price of this system, you should include at least one outdoor mount instead of charging over $20 for one. -New base required - if you are an existing Arlo customer, you will need to buy an Arlo Ultra with base station to get in on this awesome camera. The new base is backwards compatible so you will not be able to just get an Ultra addon camera. -Proprietary cord - NO WHERE can I find a cord that is longer for a hardwire install. I am forced to use battery because I am a few inches short of where I have a plug nearby. Very disappointing. A 6-7inch cord to charge… REALLY ARLO? I am sure we will be able to purchase this one soon from Arlo. -Video quality - you get 1080p when streaming outside of your WiFi meaning your recordings. The actual footage on the SD card is very compressed. It has more dynamic range but I really see 4k in great lighting. Low light I question 4k quality. It looks more of the 1080p quality. It is still very graining in low light situations. -Battery life - isn't the greatest. To test I used it in my living room to see what a very high traffic area would do to the battery life and it only made it 3 days before I recharged it at 10%. -Mount - not a fan of the included mount. It makes it hard to charge your camera while mounted. I recommend using the threaded mount (you will buy). -Alexa Skill - it would be nice to be able to do other functions besides just showing the feed. Features like 2-way communication and maybe zooming in from the remote or voice commands would be great. Maybe asking battery levels/connection strength of the cameras as well would be useful too. -High gloss white exterior - I would like to see other options rather than having a bright white camera as the only one. White is not a great color to conceal a camera and will attract attention of someone who wanted to steal the camera. -=The Verdict=- If you are looking at this, you probably are or have already researched the other names in the game. In my opinion, this is THE BEST system out there overall. If provides the most options and you can scale it to grow with you. I can foresee this becoming a part of every security systems. I like where this is going. Not a must buy now that the Arlo Pro 2 is cheaper with this release.

Wire free is the way to go!!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was watching the reviews for the ultra for awhile they have really worked out all the kinks. We have an older home and didn’t want to have to hire an electrician and run wires all over the place. This seemed like the perfect solution. The setup was easy once I figured out to add each camera individually to the base station. The picture quality is excellent. If you can get the power cord to the cameras it does make life easier. It also opens up some additional features. If you don’t use the power cord you will be taking battery out to recharge which isn’t a big deal. I got this on sale and it was great deal. Used the extra money for some power cords

Not worth the money
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all im not an expert on security systems but I am a technician for automation systems with IP cameras. I have been having issues with vandalism. so I chose this Arlo ultra figuring that being 4k it will have clear video and work very well for me. The first thing found in the box was 1 Charging cable but there's (2 cameras) one indoor and 1 outdoor mount. Then I found I couldn't program to come on @ 5 pm and to go off @ 4 am just wouldn't let you I called customer service and she was telling me it had to be with 24 hours, this was not true it has to be in the same day, not just 24 hours u have to buy a plan they cost $100 a year per camera for this feature to work and I figured that out not the lady from customer service because she didn't know her job. I set this all up to have to recharge the battery the next day, I installed it with a full charge. after looking at the setting and readjusting the parameters this was still triggering even when ther was a car going by not even in the trigger area. I had issues with turning off the sound detection on one camera it wouldn't let me I had to reset the whole system and repair the camera and start all over, Battery was dead again because its all ways recording because it always being triggered even tho I have the trigger area set it doesn't matter it will go off when a car goes down the road..I have spent 3 days on this and numerous calls to customer service and I'm not at all happy with the unit I think the company is very scimpish 1 charging cable 2 cameras COME ON this was $600 really, and the fact you have to spend money on a plan so you can program this to go on and off when you want them to, and the battery wouldn`t be dying every day or so. I`m returning this and getting a different unit.

Works Great Easy To Install But Does Have Flaws
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The installation is fairly simple and they work as they should. After owning these cameras for over 10 months I have experienced issues new buyers would like to know. The live feature does have a 3 to 6 second lag. There has been occasions where I need to see whats going on and the camera just appears offline or it stays loading. The battery life on these is good it will last about 10 to 14 days before having to charge depending on the camera if it is located on high traffic area. The alarm to scare off thieves is not loud or intimidating. I would recommend the solar panel charger to avoid constant removing and charging, makes life much easier. Night vision is clear however, it is not the best just like daytime there is instances where the recording looks in 1080p not 4k. The audio is okay not crystal clear as stated, these cameras are good with the potential of being great with new upgrades. Arlo needs to upgrade the technology on these cameras the software is getting outdated. Even though they do need improvement, I would still recommend them to those seeking for wireless security camera system. On the postive side, these cameras hold up well to hot or cold weather, battery life is good, they're convenient and easy to manage, they light up immediately when movement is detected, and they look intimidating. I have caught people noticing the cameras and immediately go away or try to act more professional when they see the camera lol. I don't know if that was important to mention but that has been my true experience up until now.

Appallingly poor customer support
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The cameras seem well-constructed and are easy to connect to a mobile app. The batteries have to be recharged far more often than is practical, which begs the question: why do you have to order more magnetic brackets? As often as they have to be taken down for charging, these should come with the system. The system also fails to recognize movement in about half the field of view. To date, we’ve been unable to resolve a single issue through customer support. They’re poorly informed, difficult to communicate with, and completely unable to answer the simplest questions: Why are we unable to turn off notifications for one camera? Why are we unable to access our Arlo account from a desktop browser? Why does the camera not report an alert for obvious movement in the field of observation? They’ll consume a tremendous amount of your time, pass you back and forth to several persons who all fail to answer your question, and ultimately close out your ticket despite not having resolved the issue. We hoped for a more reliable, well-supported product at this price point. It also seems that in addition to the premium price for the hardware, Arlo is shifting away from free cloud storage to subscriptions. Fortunately, this is a growing market sector, and it shouldn’t take long for a better product to emerge.

Amazing Picture but connection could be improved
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are the best quality cameras in the whole market, you can see license plates and decent details in a crowded picture. Works great with all the major smart home platforms (including apple homekit). The hub is the biggest downfall of this device. I have a large home and the hub emits its own wifi signal to communicate with the cameras. There will be interference with your own wifi signal. The delay is also more significant than my Ring cameras which directly connects to wifi instead of a hub. If you have a large home you might want to get multiple hubs so you can get reliable connection to each camera. The whole system is expensive but you do get the best video quality out there along with smart home integration.

Great promise not delivered
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been my experience. Was able to install all cameras immediately after charging the batteries guided by the Arlo App instructions. About 1 week after installation, one camera disconnected from the base. All attempts to have it rejoin the base via the app as suggested resulted in failure. Decided to contact support and throughout the course of 2 weeks of interaction via both phone and online chat and endlessly repeated Tech Support steps, the one camera still cannot be reconnected to the base. After those two weeks, they just stopped communicating. As of today, I still have not been able to add that one camera back to the base. Not only that, but another camera stopped recording in 4K (only in 2k now), even though they are charging my credit card $15 per month to be allowed record in 4K for up to 5 cameras. To recap, two of the 4 cameras are working as advertised (at 4K). The other two are falling short with 1 not being able to reconnect to the base at all even after lengthy tech support suggestions, and the other one can now only record in 2K. Tech support has ran me through a miriad of different steps to attempt to fix the disconnected camera issue, but after 2 weeks of trial and error attempts, they stopped communicating; pretty awful for a $800 product, especially since I'm very versed in network and wifi based technology. The two stars is basically because the two cameras that are working, are doing so exceptionally well.

Struggles IMO
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to like this camera but it still has issues. At times it picks up too much motion outside of the designated zones and other times its late to the record the motion. The online support from Arlo is always the same... reboot and see if that works. I like the ease to install, the integration with SMART home, Geofencing, size. I was not as impressed with the 4K. I have a 4K Sony Camera and the picture quality is not even comparable. I kind of wish I would have done the POE camera system.

Do not work as advertised
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had and still use the original Arlo cameras that came out several years ago. We bought the Ultra cameras because we were hoping to have better images of potential prowlers, and were mistaken in thinking the investment would be worth what we spent. So far, the batteries on the Arlo Ultra only last 3-4 days on the same settings as the original Arlo camera batteries, which tend to last about 30 days before needing a charge. We’ve contacted Arlo regarding this issue, and their answer so far is to adjust the settings down further, basically rendering this $1000+ dollar investment useless. They have stated using the 4K option (which we’ve never done), and checking in on the live stream (done very rarely) drains the batteries quicker. They’ve also said the resolution is higher so the batteries shouldn’t be expected to last as long. We’ve had these for about 2 months now and 100% regret buying these. Customer service has been giving us the run around and today said, “try to keep the cameras so they only get thirty 15 second recordings a day.” So basically, the cameras might work for about 7.5 minutes per day on average, and if you’d like for more than that, spend your money elsewhere.

Exceeded my expectations
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first camera system and I love it. It wasn’t difficult to install, and the display is awesome. I actually feel more secure in my home because of this system. some things aren’t perfect: * It probably takes 60 seconds to connect. While theoretically you can talk to somebody at the other end of the camera it doesn’t happen instantaneously and doesn’t work very well. * I was excited about the “look back” feature but that only works for a plug-in camera. I have solar. But these are small things. Overall you get a fantastic video, decent recording and a bit more secure feeling about what’s going on.

Expensive, but what Arlo Pro Should have Been
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a big proponent of Arlo cameras. I have many, including the baby monitor. In terms of just ease of installation and ease of use (I find the app very intuitive) they are great. Really the biggest downsides are having to charge the batteries from time to time and the high cost to get continuously recorded video. The Arlo Ultra doesn't solve those problems, but it is what the Alro Pro and Arlo Pro 2 should have been. SETUP As I said, setup is dead simple. If you already have an existing Arlo system, it does require a few additional steps, but I didn't find it to be a hassle. You plug in the base station to ethernet and power, then you download the app and create an account and search for the base station. Then it automatically searches for your camera (make sure you charge it first). Then you simply put the camera mount where you want it (indoor or out) using the included screw and attach it magnetically. And voila, you're good to go with initial setup. If you already have an existing system, you will need to replace the base station, add the new base station, delete the old one, and then perform a search within the app to locate each camera. You will have to hit the sync button on each camera to complete the process. I do want to add one thing, I had a bit of issues setting up the Arlo Ultra, but it was user error and not following the directions. To put it in sync mode, you have to take the cover off, take the battery out, then put the battery in and the case, then it goes into pairing mode. There's no sync button as on previous versions. Bottom line, just follow the prompts in the app. VIDEO QUALITY Yes this baby purports to record in 4K HDR. While I notice a significant increase in video quality over my Arlo Pros, 4K could be overkill. I admittedly have not downloaded a file to look at the native resolution, but looking at it on my phone it doesn't quite look to 4K. But, you can zoom in and still read small text. As I said, my camera is in the front of my house, when you combine the 4K resolution with the ultrawide lens you can keep your camera farther away to see more, but also zoom in to see details. The ultrawide view is something to behold. Normally you would expect fisheye effect (think GoPro cameras) but that distortion isn't there. It's pretty amazing. Again, it allows you to capture more area and the higher image quality allows you to zoom in when you need to. Overall, I was very impressed with the image quality and the ability to capture such a wide area that other security cameras cannot. FEATURES Like I said, this Arlo Ultra is what it should have been from the beginning. You have a built in siren, built in light and microphones. In addition, you get one year's access to Arlo Premier. Arlo Premier is a subscription service that gives you 30 days of recordings (NOTE: when you set the camera to record, say motion or sound, it will record in 10 second increments. But those are saved in the cloud for 30 days. The basic, no subscription plan gives you 7 days of recording. And it's even more expensive to have continuous video recording, which is charged per camera). Arlo Premier also gives you the ability to create motion zones. So sometimes you want to be notified when someone gets near your house, but if you have kids running through your yard you may not care and don't want to get notified. So for me I trained the Arlo Ultra on my front door and created a zone that covered the front door and the sidewalk leading up to it. This zone feature also works on Arlo Pro 1 and 2, but the zone is simply a square (on the Ultra you can create almost any specific shape you want). While I love the inclusion of Arlo Premier and it definitely makes up for the high cost of initial purchase, I am not certain I will keep it. BUT it's nice that Arlo offers it to you to try out. EASE OF USE Installation aside, Arlos are easy to use. As I said, the app is intuitive. When you go into the main screen you are shown feeds from all of your cameras. There are smart touch screen buttons/prompts that are easy to navigate and figure out what they are intended to do. For the Alro Ultra, there's a button to turn on the spotlight, you can swipe left to arm it (meaning it will set to detect motion). You can then easily set up the notifications to send a push notification when it detects motion/audio or you can turn those off and just check whether the camera detected any motion/audio. It's really tough to put into words how easy the app is to use. Bottom line is that I think anyone will find it very intuitive and easy to navigate. VALUE The reason this gets 4 stars and not 5 is the price. Yes, the feature set is vastly improved over the prior versions, but it is still so pricey. When you compare past Arlo models, it seems to be in line considering the fact that you get a built in light that is also sold as a separate accessory. It is a great product, but I would definitely label it as premium. You might be better off, depending on your needs, to get the Arlo Pro 2 at a cheaper price. CONCLUSION All in all, you are getting a high quality camera that is easy to set up. It is extremely versatile and can be placed almost anywhere. You'd be pretty surprised as to its range; mine makes it out to the front yard without connection issues. But you are paying a premium for it. If you have the means and are looking for the best all around security cameras (taking into account ease of installation, ease of use (interface) this is one of, if not the best, options.

Easy set up but works sporadically
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the Arlo Ultra camera kit in January 2019 because I wanted care free security camera coverage without having to run wires. The set up was easy. The camera's worked fine for a while. One camera would not connect to the hub. When I swapped the location it started working fine. Now I have two camera's which were not picking up motion so I had to disconnect them and then I had trouble re-connecting them. Once they re-connected to the base, now they show ten seconds of images of the area but do not capture the person or the motion detected. I recently purchased a hardwired video system and use the Arlo as a back up. Not a reliable system. I spent $1000 when I could have used that money towards 2 hard wired systems. You also get 1 year free of camera recording but after a year the service costs $9.99 monthly to view the last 30 days of images. Another waste of money. PS I had the Ring and that was returned within 30 days since the battery life was nowhere close to the stated 6 months. The Arlo batteries do last longer, at least 2 months before needing another charge. One other benefit of the Arlo is it comes with a base which needs to be connected (with Cat 5 cable) to your router but at least I can move the base to central location to allow a proper signal to all the cameras.

It doesnt pickup people until they are at my car doors. Ine system will puck up activity on one camera but not the other. We have to charge our batteries 2x a week. The picture is clear only when within 15 feet or so. Beyond that you couldnt identify them.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was expecting better resolution from a 4K camera. When I zoom in on a vehicle license plate on the road I can't read it at all. The zoomed out picture is good, but the fine details are lost when zooming in. I am not impressed with the night vision. If the area is lit it shows in color and is a pretry good picture. The night vision from the camera it's self is dark and doesn't show much detail. If somebody broke into my car, I doubt these cameras would help identify the person. You have to have at least one text or push notification per camera when an animal, person, car or other movement is identified. Even with the minimum selected, It kind of gets annoying getting a couple or more per hour. I tried to set notification zones, but they don't do anything. I still get notifications anytime something enters the camera view. They are easy to install, but the batteries need to be replaced every 4 to 6 weeks, even on the motion detection mode. They do sell separate power cables for $50 a piece. I plan on getting at least two. There is an option to save videos to your device if you need to hang on to some footage. It is nice to be able to check in on your house anytime from anywhere with an internet connection. Setup and adding new devices is easy, but the instructions are not very clear on the app. They just have a picture of the next part to install, and don't explain you have to tap on the picture to continue the tutorial. I might recommend this to a friend, depending on the person. An 80 year d that has to get on a ladder once a month, probably not.

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One day my wife noticed that someone had stolen 2 garbage cans from our yard, so I bought the Arlo Ultra 2 camera system. I also bought the video doorbell. The picture quality is unparalleled! Simply amazing. Night vision, spotlight, alarm, 2 way audio, 4K video and no wires! Batteries last about 4 weeks with heavy use. Someone came to steel from my yard again. This time, I got a notification on my phone and I caught the guy trying to get away. He got what he deserved and I got my property back! Thank you Arlo!
