I’ve been using the Arlo Ultra 3-Camera 4K system for about four days now, and overall, it’s been really solid. Setup was super easy — the app walks you through everything step by step, and I had all three cameras up and running in under an hour. **The good:** The video quality is excellent — super clear, sharp, and detailed. The color night vision and built-in spotlight work great at night, and the wide field of view covers a ton of space. The app is smooth, and notifications come in quickly without much lag. **The not-so-good:** Battery life could definitely be better, especially for the cameras that get the most motion alerts. Recharging isn’t terrible, but it’s something to keep in mind. If they come out with a wired version of this system, I’d definitely go for that instead — I’d even be willing to pay a little extra just to not deal with recharging. Some of the premium features, like person or vehicle detection, also require a subscription. **Bottom line:** After four days, I’m impressed. The clarity, reliability, and coverage are excellent for a wireless system. If Arlo ever releases a wired version of this exact setup, I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

PROS - Price point is a decent value for this particular bundle ($399 as of today vs. $650 if purchased separately, according to Arlo) - video quality is clear and crisp (4K w/HDR) & above average night vision - Wireless (rechargeable battery) / Easy placement - Cloud + local storage (the local storage is great to have) - Indoor or outdoor use (depending on your needs; we have all of ours outdoors) - Works with Google, HomeKit, SmartThings, or Alexa (note that they don't work as well as Google's own cams in relation to Google Home, but they do offer the majority of the features associated with using Google Home) - USB-C charging (finally!!) CONS - Subscription-based (can we stop with the subscriptions?) - Expensive pricing on subscriptions versus other alternatives (up to $300 annually) - The cams can be slow to go live at times, no matter the strength of your router, but they are stable enough once they get going It had been some time since I upgraded my Arlo cameras. I was an early adopter when they first introduced their cameras, and I was excited about the value and quality they offered, as that was their goal as a new company in the home security realm. In the beginning, they provided cams, but now they offer all-around home security. However, with that, the company focuses more on subscriptions. It has expanded its product line, which may confuse newcomers to home security. There are multiple versions of security cameras. The ones included in this set are called Ultra 3, which is one of their most premium cams due to its 4K HDR. Along with three Ultra 3 cameras, you receive a security base station (more on that later) with a battery charging kit that can charge two batteries at once. Additionally, they include an Arlo yard sign. The setup process was simple and hassle-free. First, download the Arlo app and add the cameras to your account. Once you're connected to your Wi-Fi, the rest is easy. You can place the cameras wherever you want and name them as you set them up. The app opens the cams with a slight delay, like most Wi-Fi-based security apps. I am impressed with the clarity of these cameras. The 4K HDR on my newer cams has improved so much from my older ones; it amazes me how far home cams have come. The cams deliver a vivid, sharp picture, whether it's day or night. The night vision is not washed out or blurry, which is a significant upgrade from what we had before. The security base station serves as a home security hub that can connect to local authorities or emergency services if needed. Users can access features such as 60-Day Video History, custom detection settings, event captions, 24/7 Emergency Response, and defined activity zones. Custom detection, for example, lets you receive notifications for sounds, packages, vehicles, people, and more. Recognizing specific cars and people is a cool feature. In recent years, it has become standard for most home security cams. After the trial period, subscription plans start at $17.99 per month (billed annually). While $18 a month is reasonable compared to other security offerings, keep in mind that this is Arlo's lowest tier and does not include 24/7 emergency response. For that feature, you would pay up to $24.99 per month, which includes 24/7 professional monitoring, cellular and battery backup, and a potential home insurance discount (depending on your insurer). For the highest tier, it's $300 a year, which is significant. It would be more appealing if users could select and price individual features à la carte instead. Some features are utilized by only a few users, so why pay for them if you don't use them? Investing in a new security camera brand is a significant commitment. Once you start, switching to a different company can be challenging, as you'll be heavily invested in the products and likely want them to work together seamlessly. Be sure to compare the pros and cons of Arlo with other available options. If you decide to go with Arlo, you will be satisfied with their products, provided you can get past the subscription pricing.

This is my second Arlo camera/base bundle. The older model was a bit smaller, picture a little bit less detailed. This new model has a wider field of view which allows for you to pick up the sides of the shot better than previously. Battery life seems to be a little longer although they’re brand new so they should be as expected. You can get extra batteries on multiple different sites just a quick google and price compare some places are cheaper than others and then you’ll be ready to go when the camera needs to be charged. The old model you had to charge in the housing which was pretty annoying and inconvienent. If there’s any complaints it’s been the latency in which the camera sends the image or alerts you that the camera is triggered. So if someone is on a bike or running by time the camera starts recording and letting you know of the trigger the event is over and the image is missed. That was the old system and also the new. Still a great camera system and overall I’m happy with it for my needs.

I was looking to add cameras to my Arlo Ultra 2 system and this was an easy choice with both additional cameras as well as the convenience of a charging dock. Setting these up were extremely easy where they’re plug and play with an existing SmartHub 3. All I had to do to add them as new cameras to my existing system without having to use the included hub with this bundle. Battery compatibility…this is interesting. The battery size, shape, and connector are the same so I can use my Ultra 2 batteries in the Ultra 3 cameras however the Ultra 3 batteries don’t seem to work in my Ultra 2 cameras. The blue light comes on indicating they’re powered but they don’t connect with the app. The charging dock does at least work with the Ultra 2 batteries but it was a bit disappointing to not have full cross compatibility with batteries. USB C charging on the cameras is another nice change from previous cameras which had a proprietary magnetic charging cable making it so I don’t have to find a special cable every time I need to charge. The downside to this new USB charging port is that you can’t place it on a flat surface to charge and monitor at the same time without placing the camera on its side. That was possible with the previous magnetic charging cable that had a flat surface. The highlight of getting this bundle is the charging dock which makes it so you can quickly swap batteries and always have one charged and ready to go. The strange thing about this charging dock though is that it uses a proprietary wall adapter and it’s not USB C like the cameras. Would love to see that be USB C as well. They include a Premium subscription trial with the bundle but I’ve found the Plus plan that I’ve been using with my previous setup to provide the features I need, however I can see the Premium Plan being a good deal for the additional 24/7 monitoring features it provides. I’ve been happy with Arlo Camera systems and this has been a nice upgrade but I would have loved to have full battery compatibility.

I’ve been using the Arlo Ultra 3-Camera 4K HDR system for a while now, and it really does deliver on performance. That’s true of just about an Arlo product I’ve owned. I’ve found these cameras and others before to be reliable, so a plus for sure. The video quality is excellent, the 4K HDR looks sharp and vibrant, with great contrast and clarity even in funky lighting. Faces, license plates, and small details show up much clearer than you’d expect from a wireless system. The night vision and motion alerts have both been reliable, and the app makes it easy to jump between live feeds or saved clips. Setup was pretty smooth too. The base station found all three cameras almost instantly, and the app’s setup guidance straightforward. The magnetic mounts are a good design — I love how easy it is to adjust angles or take the cameras down for charging. Just be smart about where you put them. Because they attach magnetically, you’ll want to mount them out of reach or somewhere less accessible so they can’t be easily taken down by someone passing by. Biggest issue is not with the cameras themselves but the subscriptions from Arlo. The cameras work without it, but you lose a lot of what makes them “smart.” Features like cloud recording, advanced motion detection, and package/person recognition are all behind a monthly paywall. It’s not outrageous, but it does add up, especially after you’ve already dropped a decent amount on the hardware. Overall, though, the Arlo Ultra system feels premium, looks great, and performs extremely well. If you’re okay with the ongoing subscription cost, it’s a great wireless security option.

Arlo is a big name in wireless security for a reason. They hit a lot of benchmarks that users are looking for. The biggest benchmark seems to be simple install. As someone who installs security cameras regularly, at face value, it doesn't get much simpler to install. Is that the reality however? The answer is no. The install and setup of this Arlo Ultra 3-Camera system did not go smoothly. First, this kit includes a smart hub, a battery charger, 4 batteries, 3 cameras, and 2 power supplies. The first instruction for install is to fully charge the batteries before attempting setup. Guess what it doesn't tell you? Which charger cable goes to the battery charger and which one goes to the smart hub. The connections work for either, however the output of the chargers is different and these power supplies are not interchangeable. If your batteries are solid orange, you are using the correct power supply. If your batteries have a flashing orange light, you are using the wrong power supply. This is also not shown anywhere in the directions. To be honest, not a lot is shown in the directions other than download the app and follow the instructions. After figuring out and labeling the power supplies and charging my batteries, I attempted setup. After four attempts, by Smart Hub would not connect to network and was not able to be detected by the Arlo Secure app. I logged into my router and could not find the smart hub on my network even though it was connected via ethernet cable to the router. I found out that the supplied ethernet cable did not have continuity in a couple pins, which Im assuming was the result of a bad crimp. After figuring this out, I used one of my patch cables and we were finally started. After getting the Smart Hub setup, the Arlo Secure app could not find the cameras. I was able to find a work around by pressing the pairing button on the inside of the camera which allowed me to sync the cameras to the Smart Hub. Once setup, the picture quality was underwhelming in live view, despite changing the settings to allow HD viewing in Live View. Recorded view is a little bit better, however gives me the feeling of simulated 4K vis actual 4K recording, The analytics from Arlo, however, have always shown to be pretty solid. This is by second set of Arlo wireless cameras. The first set I ditched quickly as the battery would only last about 4 days before needing a charge. These current cameras I have had setup for about a week and are currently sitting at 84%. I will be interested to see how these do in my colder climate as that weather seems to effect battery life. These cameras to allow you to sign up for Emergency notifying services, however I work for an emergency service so this is not necessary for me. If I wanted to secure a camper, rental property, or apartment, I would definitely consider these Arlo Ultra 3 Camera setup. They allow a quick and simple solution for temporary or fluid situations. If I was a home or business owner, I would go a different route and get a legitimate wired system for my premise.
