Customers commend ARMS' surprisingly deep and fun gameplay, phenomenal motion controls, and ease of use, making it enjoyable for players of all skill levels. Many appreciate the colorful characters and find the game's difficulty to be a satisfying challenge. However, some wish for more content and find the price point to be a bit high, while others would like to see more single-player options.

Unique
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Game is surprisingly far more fun than I expected. The controls are pretty perfect and I normally don't like the motion style.

Well-made game, but not for me
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was one of my first games purchased for Nintendo Switch. Pros: Art style, soundtrack, UI, and overall feel of the game are fantastic. It promotes a fun, party-like atmosphere that appeals to both children and adults. Cons: The motion controls didn't feel right to me and weren't satisfying. I never felt fully in control of my fighter. Keep in mind that there is an option to use button controls- that just isn't why I got the game. This is definitely a personal issue- I know plenty of people are fine with the controls. Bottom line- consider trying before you buy. The premise is interesting and the game looks and sounds great. It wasn't for me, but that doesn't mean the same for others.

Light on Content, Heavy on Mechanics
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arms is at once a game with minimal barrier to entry but, keep looking and you'll find a surprising amount of mechanical depth. The unfortunate side with this game is that, the modes and things to do with those mechanics are sadly, much more shallow. Controls (whether motion or button based) take 3 major factors into account: Positioning, Blocking, and Punching. Unlike most fighting games (save for Virtual On), the camera is located squarely behind you, with delayed arms being thrust at your opponent. If using motion controls, this allows you to throw your arms outward in hopes of connecting. Unlike Wii boxing, however, you'll soon find that rapidly flinging your arms out will cause a disadvantage, as it will leave your character open to attacks. This puts the fights into a "Rock, Paper, Scissors" scenario. Blocks will stop straight forward punches, but not grabs or punches from the side. Grabs will defeat blocks, but not punches and also leave your character wide open for pummeling, should the opponent dodge. Dodges briefly prevent you from being able to punch and so on, so forth. The variety of fighters and their weapons (aka "Arms") allows for fights to go a multitude of ways. Stages also create different scenarios based on differing ground elevations, or moving platforms. Fights play out different every time and can be thrilling with the pendulum swinging of incoming victory swinging back and forth. While the fight mechanics are fresh, there aren't enough interesting modes past this. There's no story mode, instead a rudimentary "go up the ladder and face every opponent one by one" grand prix. The variations unfortunately step away from the depth of the rock paper scissors approach, becoming simplified bullish variations of "rock rock rock" instead. "V-Ball", a volley ball style game, feels random and largely uncontrolled, "Hoops" seems overly frenetic and unpredictable as people just throw grabs at each other in rapid succession. Skill Shot separates opponents instead favoring trying to rack up a high score on targets. The 1 vs 100 mode is fun, but will undoubtedly get old over time. Multiplayer Party mode is fun, but aside from 1 vs 1 fighting, it simply feels more chaotic than you'd want it to be, plus 1 vs 1 is limited to ranked fighting and is locked away unless grand prix is beaten at a certain skill level. There's a lot to like about Arms. It's one of the few games I can play against my 6 year old nephew and against skilled online players while walking away feeling the satisfaction of a match. I only wish that there was more to do in it.

Fun Game
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is pretty cool and fun. My kids really enjoy playing it. I haven't played it with them, but I have watched them play. They laugh a lot! The arms the characters have are on long springs and reach a long way. All the way to the other person's character. There are a variety of different arms to choose from. This is a 4 player game, and it's like a boxing game. My kids are teenagers and they love playing it!

A lot of fun for awhile
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It kind of gets old after awhile but I haven't had the chance to play the single player. The multiplayer is fun but the motion controls are the best part!

Surprisingly deep combat
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yes, you can just mash buttons in a wild, random fashion and even win a few matches. Once you get past that, there is a surprising depth and balance to the combat system. It gets quite challenging and fun.

Kids Love It
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Seems too simple to me to be very fun, but my 7 year old can't get enough of it. Also, probably the best deal I have seen on a new copy of the game - I used my Pro Card and got 20% off the retail price.

An intriguing fighting experience!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At first, I thought this game would never catch on but after watching some gameplay and finally getting a chance to play it, it turned to be very enjoyable. It's like Wii Sports Boxing and Punch-Out! but more quirky and fun for a new generation! The amount of content and customization is quite decent and the multiplayer modes are addictive, especially Ranked Mode, which I find to be more exciting than the standard multiplayer modes. Definitely recommend it for both fighting game fans and those looking for a good competitive game to have some good laughs over.

Really good game and worth it at a discount.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a huge gamer and love Nintendo games. This is a good solid I.P.. But it is not currently worth the robust price of $60. I have a GCU membership and had a $10 reward certificate so after discount and taxes this game cost me $40. At $40 or less the game is worth it. Its like Street Fighter and they will add free add-ons and content without paying for DLC. So, in 6 months this may be worth more then $40. But right now I give it a 4/5 and definitely a buy for fans of fighting games or Nintendo enthusiasts. For casual fans, you could skip it without missing much.

A Great Addition to Your Growing Collection
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ARMS is one of the few games that you can get for switch right now that is not a port of a Wii U game or a PC Indie game. If you look back on the days of playing Wii boxing with your friends fondly, then you will most likely enjoy this game. Even if you don't, this game is still fleshed out enough that it might be worth a shot for you anyway. Pros- +Diverse cast of fighters with unique systems +Solid online play +Can choose between motion controls and controller Cons- -Not a ton of replay value in the campaign -Some of the modes feel like padding content

I didn't think I would like this but.....
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s difficult to describe just how good ARMS is. The best analogy I can come up with is that it is to fighting games what Splatoon is to third-person shooters. ARMS is a bright, colorful, and welcoming game. Newcomers can easily hop in and enjoy most of the matches and modes available. Meanwhile, the more dedicated will find themselves developing complex strategies based on characters and ARMS loadouts and captivated by the opportunities to challenge others online.

Essential
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Arms is an essential game to own for those with a Nintendo Switch. Nintendo continues to showcase the company's talent through the release of new games with this latest release. Like Splatoon, this game has a certain quality in its aesthetic that makes it iridescent. The controls are intuitive for individuals of all ages while providing enough room for complexity given the right input. The character design is unique and vibrant. Furthermore, the motion controls work perfectly.
