    Stopped my dropped internet

My internet used to drop as much as a couple times a day. I would have to go down to my basement and unplug the modem, wait a few seconds and then plug back in. I had Comcast out to my house at least 8 times and had 4 other basic modems. Could not fix the problem. I was getting ready to drop cable and go with DSL or some other slower, but higher cost option. My neighbor told me he had the same problem. He said he went to best buy and just bought the most expensive modem they had. Said he had no problems since. I figured I would give it one more chance because if I still had problems I could return it within 14 days no problems. Happy to report 2 months and not a single drop. I have regained my sanity. Worth every penny.

    Easy Installation - FAST Performance

I upgraded my Charter internet to MAX, which is 25 Mbps. I needed a combination cable modem with 4 LAN ports, and the WiFi is a plus. The unit installed in minutes, Charter accepted the MAC, and away I went with 36+ Mbps compared to my old 5 - 7 Mbps through a DLink DCM 202. I am happy to have decided on this modem (SBG6580) over the 6120.

To everyone on here making this product out to be such a piece of junk, read the instructions. Almost all of you I'M sure use Comcast and those of you who don't and still have problems are using another service that does not support (DOCSIS 3.0 technology). This is the fastest internet speed available in the U.S. at this time and that is what this modem is intended for so before you go bashing a perfect product, "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!"

The Motorola SURFboard eXtreme DOCSIS 3.0 works very well and is noticeably faster than the 15xx modem I was renting from Comcast. Since I have bought it - it has already paid for it self in the saved rental fees. Setup was very easy and straight forward.

Despirte all the bad review, I purchase it at my local BB store anyway for $134. I recently purchase the $99 Motoralla Wireless Broadbrand Modem which only has one ethernet port and I didn't want to buy a switch. I use it for 1-2 week at least and decide that it won't work cause I will be getting a PC. I need extra ethernet port. So I read some review and Bought ithis Modem anways. Why you ask?? * 4 ethernet port *Wireless * Broadbrand Modem A 3 in 1 ..who else won't want it??! I didn't want to buy two equipment and use two power outlet...no no no.. I rather save energy and use just one. Setup was a breeze for me, the CD wizard I think isn't need but that is just me. I have to call my ISP cause I didn't write down the old modem MAC. For $134, this will last me for quite some few years plus I don't have to pay Charter $5 each month!! HAHHAHA!! Wireless signal on my PS3 average about 50%+ which is by the living room about 4 room so its not bad. I have place order to get CAT6 cable to use with this so the date would be faster, cause the modem only comes with a CAT 5e.

Great Combo Modem for work and play

I bought this modem two years ago primarily since my other cable modem was not completely compatible with work systems I remotely access from home. Now that I work 98% of the time from my home office reliable internet access is a must. I also have a growing family and the need for internet access is important here as well. In my house we have 4 computers with 3 different OS, two game consoles, 4 tablets plus my work computer. To do this I a different dual band wireless modem that is slaved into the Motorola modem. Other than a couple of minor tweaks to the configuration software everything else is not changed. Also my ISP recently upgraded the network to handle speeds up to 50mgbs in the home. I did not have to upgrade my modem at all. This modem out of the box is able handle these higher speeds with no problem.

Easy to set up. Called ISP to change MAC Identification number. Connected to a computer via ethernet cable to confirm that it was working, and I was ready to go. Download speeds are much improved. I recommend this gateway.

Excellent Product...But does not work w SuddenLink

Bought the modem prior to internet service with SuddenLink. Set up networking and security. Very nice unit with all the features I expected at that price point. Installer came out and hooked up the box. Got a green indicator of internet on front. however I could not get internet connection to any connected device. After talking to tech support with Suddenlink they have had many complaints about this one product not connecting. Supposedly the company purchased one and could not get the box to accept there IP address. Ultimately I will return the product and buy a inferior product that works with Suddenlink equipment. love the feature and would have loved to keep it. btw checked these reviews before buying it and there was reviews that said it worked with Suddenlink. unfortunately this is not the case.

I bought this modem yesterday finally making my mind to stop paying to Comcast for a modem. I have been with Comcast for 6 years and could have saved a lot!! Ofcourse the technology kept changing, so I might be wrong too!! I liked the router very well. Installation for just few minutes..integration with Comcast was absolutely clean and straight forward. I didn't even open the manuals, just removed my existing modem & wireless router, plugged this one in, boom..I had my cable up. To get to the internet it took those few minutes to connect to Comcast for registration and restart.

I solely made an account just so I could write this review. I was a little hesitant to buy this with the so-so reviews, but decided to make the purchase any knowing I could return it if the poor reviews held true. The bad reviews, however, have been completely wrong. I had it up and running in minutes and it's performance over the past two weeks has been stellar. It handles a heavy work load with work, gaming, streaming video and large downloads. We have a tablet, notebook, kindle and two phone connected to the wifi and not once have we dropped connection. It is also very secure which I appreciate in my densely packed apartment complex. The only thing I haven't been able to test is its range. I get a strong connection all the way into my parking lot, but haven't had to test it in multiple floors, longer distances, etc. I am nothing but satisfied with this product. Do not think twice about buying it. Read the directions and the product with do the rest. Feel free to ask any questions you may have.

I got this modem even though some people are saying its junk, wanted to try it any way, heck I could return it if i didn't like it. I love it, works great, Comcast installer came but ran a new line to the house, hooked it up, called the tech over the phone, and gave her the mac id and bingo it worked. the darn thing runs great. The wirless is ok but thats might be the fact that i put the modem inside my leviton 280 multimedia metal case. still get 4 out of 5 bars from the far side of my house. Very fast speeds wired or wirless. I would recomend at least with comcast. One cool and easy thing it when you press the small button in the front of the modem it sends the security key to the the laptop, or any other wireless device.

I bought the Motorola SBG6580 about a year ago. I got it to replace the Comcast modem and Belkin router. It was a no brainer. Once i had it hooked up and out of the box i called comcast to give them the number they needed to send my signal to and it has been running flawlessly since. It works well in every room in my house including out on the patio. There were a few times where I lost signal but that was due to my connection to Comcast. I am running 7 wireless devices and 1 hard wired device and not a drop in speed. I would highly recommend the SBG6580 to anyone for either home or business use.

I purchased this in anticipation of having to use wi-fi in the future. I did in fact, need to activate my wi-fi. This works very well. I have it upstairs but it reaches the entire house. Con: I do need to reset it around once a month, but that could be my service provider issue and not necessarily this product. Because of this issue I gave it 4 stars otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

Believe would work good if Channel Setting changed

We bought a Motorola SurfBoard modem/router. The set up was confusing, the CD doesn't work right with Macintosh computers, we had to call to find this out. When we got it setup it worked really great on all of our devices except my laptop, so I was running my laptop with an ethernet cable. Then it started not connecting to our other devices. So I called Motorola, they were polite and tried very hard to help, but nothing worked. We returned it and switched to a Zoom and still had similar problems until someone told us to change the channel settings. The Motorola was very fast and excellent on the other computer and devices at first, and if we had know about the channel settings I know it would have been an excellent unit. Great modem, easy setup, never have to reset

This modem has worked very well for me on Comcast cable in central Illinois. Setup was extremely easy. The only thing that required reading the manual a bit was to change the wireless network name and password, but even that was pretty straight forward. I didn't have to change any settings at all on my computers and wireless devices. Before this I was on DSL with a separate modem and router, which I had to often restart (at least weekly). With this unit, the modem and router are combined and I have not had to restart it since I hooked it up several months ago. At first I was a little hesitant about getting this due to the average rating of 3 stars, but I think for most people this either works (5 stars) or it doesn't. So you should know right away if you need to return it. Highly recommended!!!

I had purchase this product despite all bad reviews. The value for the product it's excellent (if you took into consideration a router cost avg $50-$80 and a single good modem $80-$110) then the price it's ok. I have an apt 1100ft with concrete walls and my previous network configuration (Modem + Router) was a disaster. I use to have signal only in areas near the modem/router area. I decided to try this modem/gateway to fix my problem and the installation was a breeze (if you follow the instructions). I have 5 signal bars in all my apt (even in the areas when I've use to have 1 or none). Excellent product!!!

Had the usual separate modem and router (modem 3 yrs old and modem 2) and have Charter service. Went to Netflix a few months ago so streaming became important. Because of slow internet could not buffer fast enough resulting in movies stalling. Charter speed test showed much lower download speed than package I have. Purchased the Motorola, followed the instructions and set up was a breeze. Repeated speed test many times and consistent max downoad speed. Streaming now works great. Could not be happier with my choice.

    Constantly drops connection now

This modem has frustrated me so much, I had to write my first review - ever. Bought this modem about 4 months ago. It lasted 3 days before it started dropping my Internet connection with Cox Premium. I replaced it and got the extended warranty just in case. About 3 weeks ago, it started constantly dropping the connection requiring a modem reboot (unplug/plug). I have been rebooting about 10-15 times a day if I use it all day. After a week, called Cox. They suggested getting separate modem/router. After two more weeks, I called Cox again. They insisted they had no record of dropped connections for over 100 days and that the model is 100% compatible. Again, their solution was to refresh my signal and for me to reboot. It did nothing of course. So I have to assume this is a modem issue and return it - not knowing for sure what the real issue is. With the extended warranty, I am going back to Best Buy one more time to replace it. Bottom line: Motorola cannot update any firmware. They say the provider has to do it. Cox says it is fully compatible and has no interest in a firmware update. Could it be a bad chip? It runs warm - is this a problem? Who knows what the real reason might be. Personally, I think it is one of those situations where the early versions were either defective or are no longer compatible with Cox equipment, but no one wants to admit it. This is where the consumer carries the burden with few options other than to replace the modem. It's too bad because I like the modem. It was fairly easy to set up, especially if you have Windows 7. Speed was good with DOCSIS 3.0 Cox Premium - and it easily handles all my wireless devices. It's a shame I cannot recommend it.
