No problems - love this modem/wireless router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a Dell Studio PC with Vista and wireless G (no N). It took about 5 minutes to hook up the modem/router after Cox cable came to my apartment. I did not have to do any settings - just type in the passcode. My wireless Internet connection is very fast compared to what I get in hotels, airports, and other locations (I travel a lot for work). I am on my laptop for hours at a time and it does not lose my connection. I think the price is a little high but overall this modem is 5 star. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a combination high speed cable modem and wireless router.

Not as good as I thought it would be
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first installed this router it was working great. Unfortunately, now there seems to be a lot of interferrence with other routers in my condo building and I can't get it to work like before. I find myself constantly unplugging it to reset it. Not happy with this model at all. Considering getting the upgraded version of this if I can trade this one in for a credit.

Great for Comcast Blast Internet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded today from AT&T DSL 6.0 to Comcast Blast Internet. Prior download speeds were 4-5 mbps with upload speeds around 0.50 mbps. Now, download speeds 34-36 mbps with upload speeds 4.5-5.5 mbps. If it were any faster it would anticipate what I was trying to type. Comcast had me up and surfing the internet in about 5 minutes!!

Great Unless you have Time Warner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product because I signed up for time warner cable internet and wanted a modem with wifi built in and that was advanced enough to have longevity through a few years/upgrades etc...and because it was listed as being a compatible router for self-purchase by time warner. When the technician came to install it, the router worked but wouldnt connect to the time warner service. they hooked their modem up(the exact same model, mind you) and it worked instantly. pretty sure that even though time warner says you can buy your own, they have something installed that prevents any modem other than one provided by them working. Great Product, but dont buy if you have time warner cable...

Works as advertised
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since Comcast FINALLY finalized testing on the upgraded firmware and upgraded our market it has worked perfectly. Before that it would drop service for a few seconds once or twice per day, but that was a problem with the ISP and not the Gateway itself. Now all is smooth sailing with no outages at all. A great buy!!

It's a no go
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this modem hoping to gain some performance and to clear up some desk space. I was happy with the performance of the hardware that was plugged into the modem but the wifi performance was terrible. The biggest problem I experienced was with streaming Netflix through my PS3. The playpack would stop every 10 min. or less because of lost connection and then you would have to wait to rebuffer again before proceding. I returned the unit and bought the SURFboard SB6121 modem and hooked it to my belkin router. This worked great and I can stream HD content thru the PS3 with absoluty no issues.

Great modem/router!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This modem/router works great with Brighthouse internet! Switching from DSL to cable, I originally bought a cheap Netgear router recommended by Brighthouse. Come to find out, the Netgear model recommended only works with Comcast. I was so dissatisfied with the cable internet performance that I almost cancelled and went back to DSL. I bought this modem as a last ditch effort and am so happy! It works great!

Great, if you're not interested in future proofing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As many other reviews say, this is a competent all-in-one cable modem and router. HOWEVER It says on the box that it supports IPv6. Since it makes sense for the future to migrate to IPv6 everywhere, and since securing dual stack is so problematic, then going Native v6 as early as practically possible is the prudent way to go. The SBG6580 only supports IPv6 on the WAN side. You cannot provision an internal IPv6 LAN with this device, as the router interface does not provide a field for a v6 address. When Comcast comes to install your device, the first thing that happens when they switch on is downloading firmware. If you don't have a v6 service today, then you get the v4 firmware. At that point this device lives in no other world than IPv4. A particular downside of this arrangement is that you cannot even make use of a v6 over v4 tunnel, such as is provided by Hurricane Electric or Sixxs.net: because you can't provision the static v6 tunnel address. The only way to get IPv6 on the LAN side and as a tunnel is to attach a separate router that is IPv6 capable on the LAN side, but must be dual-stack too, since your drop from the SBG6580 is going to be through IPv4. Cisco-Linksys, and Dlink sell products which will do this job. The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory is engaging in a testing campaign to qualify SoHo routers for IPv6.

Instructions = terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The modem/router is just OK. I think I was expecting a stronger signal. When sitting near the router the speeds are fast and signal stable. 10 feet away it drops quite a bit. At 30 feet the signal drops and speed is between 3mb and 5mb. Nothing like the old Linksys router. To apply wi-fi security one needs to log in. The printed material lists the default password as 'password' when in fact it is 'motorola'. This typo could cause quite a bit confusion at first. Changing the IP address is another issue. Especially when you have your devices to connect at specific IP addresses. This modem creates new, rather strange IP's.

Ez setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once installed Comcast headed up and running after a couple resets. I had my main Windows 7 PC connected to it Within minutes. The Documentation is so short and straightforward that it was missing some essential information to log in to the main unit in order to change the network parameters. My Adobe was not up to date so once I get the documentation off-line the information was easily attained. I was able to set up the rest of the information easily. The units menu and user ability is easy to follow and set up as far as changes go. The four LAN ports it provides and the wireless works well. The wireless has a better range than the wireless router that I was using along with My outdated cable modem it replaced. I primarily use this for that 8 wireless devices I have in the house and video Netflix connection. It also continues to allow me to control my networked stereo system from my phone or iPad. It's supposed to contain its own firewall. I have to trust that this is going to work well.

Pretty poor modem
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the first few months, this modem worked great. But then it started dropping the signal and not work for up to a couple days at a time. Then it would come back super strong for about 15 minutes, then go super slow, then stop. You get the idea. I even called Motorola, and they were super friendly (which good customer service is always a perk!), we changed the channel on the box, and it worked amazing for about 2 more days. Most of the time it takes at least 3-5 minutes to even open my gmail! I would say spend maybe a few extra dollars if you can and get a better modem. This one has seriously ruined my life.

very good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i agree with most of the people on here that gave a good rating. have some expertise to set it up so the unit performs properly if you dont then dont waste your money in something that you dont know how to use your self on another note this product is very basic and easy to use I think, also make sure if you want to use the N or 5ghz set up make sure that your devices can support it if not then they will not work. i do recieve speeds above what i am paying for with this device which is a big plus =]

Nice modem/router combo
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup software guides you right through the installation very quickly. I got the old equipment out and the new installed and on the Internet in about 30 minutes. That includes the activation procedure with the cable company. The wireless piece works out of the box. I only needed to change the SSID and the wireless password to secure it. I also like the fact that the modem and router are now one piece of equipment. I have a little more room on the desktop now. I am satisfied.

High hopes, sortof delivered...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My router died so I bought this all-in-one Modem-Gateway unit to replace both the router and the modem I was renting from the cable company. IF you use WPS security, IF you have a small area for the wireless to broadcast, and IF this unit will be in a cool location, then this might be the right hardware for you. It is easy to set up as long as you use WPS security, but it does seem to run warm. Also, my across-the-street neighbors' network broadcasts stronger than this router. finally, I have an old computer with a WEP-security wireless card that I have to maintain on my network. This unit wouldn't allow me to run WEP on the network unless I turned off Wireless N (bummer, since I paid extra for that). Also, I couldn't even run WEP on the same network - I had to set up a separate guest network to run WEP. The main network ran WSP security and was really easy to set up, while the second network was more difficult although the same hardware ran both networks. Too bad that i can't access the network printer from both networks though. If you are running all the current security, etc, then this might work but if you need to run anything out of date then you should pick something else. This becomes a nightmare trying to make it backwards compatible.

Product has bugs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought two of these, one for each house. I gave one away and replaced it with a Netgear product. I still have the other. Arris says there is no firmware upgrade to fix the product. The problem is that this product periodically hangs and downgrades its speed. To try and fix the problem I connected a timer switch to it to reboot it every night. But I found that my web cameras couldn't reconnect after the Arris modem was rebooted. I'm sorry I bought this product and will replace it soon. The Netgear product is cheaper and is supported after purchase.

Works as intended
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this month's ago, returned my cable modem to Bright House as I wanted to save some money and eliminate having to lease their own slow modem. This cable modem works like a charm. Very fast! Online gaming and streaming is a breeze. Love that it's a dual WiFi router and cable modem combined as it saves on having multiple devices on the TV stand.
