The literature accompanying the product is confusing and inaccurate (even reps in Motorola tech support agreed with that) .. based solely on dealing with Motorola tech support for this item - I would strongly recommend against purchasing it. Even the most basic setup questions (changing SSID, password etc.) are considered "advanced" tech support which is "fee based" and as a whole the tech support team is so lacking that I don't even want to deal with them anymore and am returning the modem. For example : Trying to change my SSID and passcode (basic setup!!) I was receiving error messages and no one at Motorola would troubleshoot it and instead recommended that I just stick with the default or exchange the modem. Additionally: Have had connectivity issues since purchase and signal dropping out. It might be a good product, I don't even know because at this point I've become so frustrated with their tech support that I refuse to own their product any longer. I've never had such problems with tech support ..with ANYTHING and am computer savvy enough to know that my inquiries were very basic in nature and that the error messages I was receiving were unusual. Not operator error but a problem with the product and sadly their support team does NOTHING to assist without requiring a $30 fee. Disappointed with the company as a whole and disappointed with the product.

    Wifi works intermittently

I bought this router to replace my Comcast router that was being rented. I did not want to pay the money until it died after i paid it off 3x. So, I went out and bought this modem/router combo. Worked for the first month or so with no issues. Then after i couldn't bring it back to best buy, it started slowing down and it would drop internet connection over WiFi every 10 minutes or so. i bought a new laptop during this time frame and almost returned it because i thought it may have been the laptop. Called Comcast a few times and they sent refresh signals with no luck. Then i called Arris and they told me to switch channels. Once i did that it only dropped me every hour or so. Feeling frustrated, i finally went out and bought a new cable modem. I hooked up my 7 year old router to the new cable modem and bam. Internet that hasnt dropped all day.

    Average Modem/Router Combination

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have used this cable modem and wireless combination for several months. The wireless coverage is average but the biggest problem is the lack of ability to upgrade the device firmware. This is because the cable modem is integrated and is controlled by the cable company. I have had to restart the device fairly frequently (roughly once per week) when the wireless devices lose connectivity. Directly-wired devices through the gigabit ports are very stable and have never lost connectivity. The user interface through the web browser is also very average. It is not entirely clear what settings are used for in several place and when you click the help link, it brings you to a pop-up window glossary of terms. Overall, I am not thrilled with this combination device and will be replacing with an independent modem and separate router.

    Very bad experience

From the start, I was experiencing frequent (multiple times per hour) losses of connectivity. The problems did not exist when I used an Ethernet connection, proving that the issue was with the WIFI. Tech support was minimally supportive, telling me to reboot the system and offering to provide additional advice for a fee. After struggling with this issue for a few months I threw this unit in the trash and bought a competitive product - that runs much faster and has had no connectivity problems.

    Trouble from the start

I wish I would've read some of the reviews before purchasing this modem but let's just say I ran into some of the same issues. I could not for the life of me get my desktop, which is hard wired, to work but my wireless laptop worked fine. The next day my desktop worked but the laptop would not recognize the modem. I only had this 2 days and that I experienced enough pain and suffering to know a bad product when I see it. I'm going to switch this out for the SB6120, which has received nothing but good reviews, and keep my CISCO 3000 for wireless.

The wireless don't work half the time. I got about 75mbps, still none to slow while my one friend is over for gaming. NOT for gaming, or anything that required wireless.

Not a fan of the combo routers

I have tried several cable modem/wireless router combos and I have yet to be impressed. I much rather buy the router and buy the modem separately. This router had a very short range. Once I walked into a different room, the service began to get spotty.

I've had the router for almost two years and have not been happy with the performance. The signal quality is poor and it often needs to be rebooted. The device gets very hot yet it's unobstructed. I've would up turining off the wi-fi and purchasing a wireless router with much better signal quality

Modem / Router kept losing signal

This router constantly dropped signal I had tried different settings, called my Internet provider no issues noted on their end or in the logs on the modem / router itself. It would simply drop the connection several times a day requiring a reset. I took it back after 3 weeks of this and several calls to the Internet provider. I would not recommend this product.

Solid Modem/Wireless Router.. When it stays online

I have no issues with this Modem/Wireless Router combination other than the fact that the modem goes offline a few times a week and requires a power off & power on to restore connectivity. My previous modem/router combo had less power on/power off cycles in 5 years than this unit has in one month.

    Poor Quality, Bad Joke Here

I spent hours trying to get this to work with Comcast. First, the direct wired connected no problem with 35 mbps. But I got it mainly for the wireless feature. After several hours I found out that the wireless only could work when the modem wasn't plugged into my computer. So wireless working but can't be wired at same time. So, ok I just use wireless, until I discovered that the signal was so weak that couldn't reach upstairs like every other modem I had including old DSL, old cable modem, etc. So no problem, I just go and buy a wifi extender. So now I have spent a week trying to get a wifi extender to work with the motorola wifi and the extenders will only work when it is right next to the modem. I believe this is because the signal the Motorola puts out is to weak to connect to the 3 extenders I tried. I had another external wifi router but that didn't work either. Then I read the reviews on Amazon and 50% rate this as 1 or 2 stars for exact same reasons.

This is a horrible modem/router. I have been having connection issues since the 2nd month I've had it. At first it happened a couple times a week and I thought it was my internet service. Now it happens several times a day. I have to unplug it and plug it back in 3-4 times a night to reset connection issues. Luckily I found my receipt so I will be returning it for a new one tomorrow.

I brought this router because I was told it would work with comcast, cable, internet, and phone. However this device does not have a connection for the phone service. While a good investment if you have cable and internet this will not work for phone also.
