    warning!

I purchased this device to have wireless access to the internet. Normally one can change the factory default password to a personal password. Motorola wants $30 to change the default password to your own personal password. The device password is 89b1e50b6e8457eaf72. Do you see yourself typing this more than once? Do you see yourself saying this password to your friends when they visit and ask to get on your wireless connection? What happens if you need to change your password? $30? No thank you. I returned it.

BEWARE!! Doesn't work with Comcast anymore!

Comcast just came out to do an install for me and told me they did a firmware update last week and this modem will no longer work with their system. The udates are rolling, so if you already own this then it may be working now, but won't soon.

If you live in a story home you might want to look at other wireless routers. It works get within a few feet but after that you lose speed.

    Don't buy this device

I purchased this device because it was the only all in one modem/wifi router that works with Comcast. Big mistake! After awhile started having problems with the wifi speeds. Seems that many other people have had the same problem. No help from Arris, they wanted $39 to talk to me. Buy separate devices from Netgear. I am trying to continue using the Surfboard as a modem and a separate Netgear wifi router.

    useless router

I am pretty much sure this router should be called back from market. Motorola company should be ashamed for introducing such useless product in market. It has connectivity problem and you move from one room to other and you connection drops and you get one bar at max sometimes. Even when you are sitting with modem sometimes you see three bars in wireless signal. dont buy as i feel this technology has still not matured.

    Bad QA

Bad right out of the box. Motorola used to be the best. This product while a great Idea, has had no quality assurance check at all. The cable side was dead right out of the box. I returned it - Best Buy was very good about the return-no hassle at all. I can not bring myself to purchase any product that is dead in the box. Shame on motorola. I will find another brand to replace it with.

Does not work on suddenlink cable

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

When you call motorolla they tell you there is an update to download on the net that will make it work. Call Suddenlink and they say that is a problem since you can't connent to internet with it and the updates are done when you connect. No way to update the Bios without being connected to internet. It does not work on Suddenlink Cable in Conroe, TX.

COMPLETE JUNK!!! THIS IS THE SECOND UNIT AFTER I REPLACED THE FIRST ONE FOR THE SAME REASON. JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IS SAYING, THIS THING DISCONNECTS AT LEAST ONCE EVERY 2 HOURS AND SOMETIMES MORE! I HAVE TO GET UP AND UNPLUG IT AND PLUG IT BACK IN FOR IT TO WORK AGAIN.

    NO PHONE CONNECTION

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is supposed to be a gateway router/modem. However, it has no connection for a phone. So, if your provider for your phone system is your cable company, then don't buy this product. You will be left with a non-operable phone system. Why they built a one-box-fits-all but having it lack a phone connection jack is a mystery.

    Must Reboot To Give IPs

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This did not ever happen on the router I replaced. Periodically, the SBG6580 must be rebooted to give some of the wireless devices IP addresses. Sometimes the devices state there is an IP conflict when they are all using DHCP. Very inconvenient.

Comcast said Motorola Modems are worthless

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is my second Motorola cable modem. Comcast said that they are not made well and will not work with their advanced systems. It worked well for a few months and now is worthless like my other Motorola modem. The Comcast Tech said that the newest Motorola modems like this one is still backwards in technology and of poor quality.

It was bad from the beginning...

Hard to set up due to the instructions did not tell you that the passwords are limited with so few characters! It eventually got hooked up although it goes to sleep at any given moment! If it is asleep, l can't use it. I have to unplug it to reset it! NOT RIGHT! I am going to return it today and get a different one! NOT this one!

Worse purchase ever. The device resets itself many times a day for no apparent reason or cause. Totally unreliable. It was the only gateway in the store when I went to buy one; I wish any other was in stock.

    Very flakey connections

Compared to my previous standard modem and setup, this modem, which I thought would be faster and save me money, was a major disappointment. I have to regularly replug the adapter to fix connectivity issues.
