Good game... not the greatest
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Much like it's predecessor, the graphics and story are good, however, the free running mechanics are absolutely horrendous. It's more than just an annoyance this time though considering some missions have very tight time constraint windows in which you have to use your free running to collect flags in a course which requires you to constantly turn around or make quick turns. I found myself yet again, jumping off of posts into a stream or the middle of nowhere, when I was looking right at the post I was trying to jump to, or grabbing a rope and swinging right past it instead of stopping. Seems Arno has a mind of his own when it comes to this, as I've had some times when he will jump within feet of a branch, letting it sail right by instead of landing on it like supposed to. I've also fallen through a roof and become trapped half in and half out like I was in the Philadelphia experiment, with my only hope of getting out being to be shot by the enemy (which after a while finally happened, I miraculously fell out of the roof, on top of it and slid off#. Another annoyance is sometimes in the middle of a fight, he just stops fighting. No matter how much I hit the x button to attack, he just stands there like an idiot. o to parry? Nope... just stands there and gets hacked to bits by the enemy. He can run away, but that was it... so again, had to wait for the enemy to kill me and respawn god knows where after I'd made significant progress getting into the area. Another fun thing Ubisoft did on this one, they started off letting you use enemies you are engaged in as a human shield when about to be shot, then in a patch a couple months later... took that ability away. No wonder I couldn't remember how to do it.. IT WAS GONE!! Now, you have to dodge it when the icon turns red... which I do every time, and every time... I still get shot. You know they realized they seriously missed the mark on this game when they offer a free DLC #which, by the way they still don't know when will be available... but "soon"). The ONLY reason I give it two stars and not less is the graphics and story.

A Little Light on Features, Still Enjoyable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game offers about 3/4 of what you likely have come to expect from an Assassin's Creed title. You have the traditional blend of history and AC fiction, an arsenal of weapons and gear, and the same basic gameplay of all other AC console titles. There is an added element of online co-op, which is a nice idea. However, the load times can be great, and you must go back into the pause menu and select your next mission every time you want to do it. If you've found a person you liked playing with, you must us PSN to track them down and friend them, as the game disconnects everyone upon completing the mission. You will then have to invite them every time you want to play a new mission. There is no continuing party or online play menu. This is yet another title without a competitive multiplayer, so the online aspects become very repetitive and dull. The missions are all scripted, with all NPCs on a loop. The story mode feels limited at times, as it only has one major area - Paris. There is one other smaller area of Versailles. The open world with multiple cities is no more. The ability to command a ship is gone, which means no more enjoyable sea shanties from your rugged crew. In those regards, Unity is a step back from the last few installments. As of April 2015, there are still a few glitches here and there, but I didn't encounter any that ruined the game for me. Most were just animations, like an NPC walking in mid-air or a tuft of hay suspended above a cart. You will likely find yourself getting stuck inside a wall or under a bridge/ledge from time to time, but you can always reload the last checkpoint or fast travel to get unstuck. It rewinds you a few moments, but it's nothing disastrous. Even in spite of its flaws, this is an enjoyable game, and you'll find that you forget those flaws as you play. It's not among the best in the AC franchise, but as a standalone campaign, it is solid enough to warrant a purchase now that it has come down from the $60 release price.

Could have been pretty good if they delayed it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Performance issues hamper what is a pretty good looking game. I cannot recommend buying this until they fix the issues and bugs. Another thing to note is that they abandoned the ship battles and pirate theme that made Blag Flag so much fun. Feels like 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Great game
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't let the bad press scare you away from the game. The game is fun and isn't nearly as broken as people claim it is. I've logged over 300 hours on the game and the only issue I've ever had was when I did a "leap of faith" and I few through the floor and keep falling. But this isn't a big issue because this bug has happened to me in almost all the other AC games. On the PS4 this game is beautiful and I've never encountered any lag. So have some faith buy and enjoy a great game.

Great, for adding to the franchise...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't say it's my favorite of all the series, but for those that are fans of the franchise, it's a must have in the collection. Now, for those new to the franchise, I'd say play the first few before diving into this one. It'll be easier to understand the concept behind the franchise, after playing the games in the series prior to Unity.

Despite bugs, still an amazing game.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yes there are quite the amount of noticeable bugs, glitches, and FPS drops but does that make it a bad game? Absolutely not. Fans of previous AC games will quickly feel at home as soon as they jump into the game. Fear not, newbies to this amazing franchise can pick up the freerunning/parkour mechanics just as quickly. Fighting mechanics in this game are also A LOT more refined; no more smashing one button and having 1-hit counter-kills. Fans who view ACII as the pinnacle of the AC franchise will not be impressed with the immersiveness of the storyline. However, I have found myself losing track of time just from the side missions, or "Paris Stories" as well as the "Murder Mysteries". Murder Mysteries really are a blast if you want a break from all the fighting and just want a challenge. This game also does an excellent job of making you feel rewarded. Not only is there the currency of the game (livres) but there are "creed points" and "helix points". creed points are gained by completing "assassin-like" moves and combat and such to spend on upgrading equipment, while helix points are bought with real life currency to "hack" some of the harder-to-obtain items. Although there is an option to spend money, the legendary gear are by NO MEANS UNOBTAINABLE. I spent the majority of my time playing the game so far investing in my Cafe Theater and just racking up 10,000 livres every 20 minutes. I found myself decked out in all legendary gear in no time without spending a penny. Which brings me to the game's customization options: truly a great addition to the AC series. Why they didn't have this earlier, I don't know but I LOVE IT. You can customize yourself to be a tank, ninja, or sniper (is how I call them) with the available stats. I was a bit disappointed when I found out there was no multiplayer. (aside from coop) I have not gotten into the Coop missions that much so I can't write a complete review on this but based on the few missions I played, they are exactly as what you would expect: Work together with friends to infiltrate a heavily guarded fortress and such. I do love the fact that if one of you gets ganged up on you can cover each other's backs. Overall, I really do LOVE this game just as much as every other AC I've played (except for maybe ACIII. I didn't really like that one.) There are tons of bugs to deal with, although Ubisoft said they will be releasing patch 4 that will hopefully clean up the game. But until then, Assassin's Creed Unity will be getting 4/5 stars from me because they do make the game slightly less enjoyable. I hope this helps!

Beautiful, yet not perfect.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Assassin’s Creed Unity improves on the gameplay, the mechanics, the amount of people in the game and the music compared to earlier AC releases - and it even includes a fun co-op mode. Where it falls flat is on the delivery of the open world. It constantly feels like the PS4 is about to break under the pressure of working too hard. Framerate dips, pop up and ins and odd textures will definitely make this a pass for many gamers. We were still able to enjoy the game despite these short comings, but we can’t help but feel disappointed.

Fun after patches
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had problems getting immersed in the story near launch because of all the frame rate issues and glitches. After all the patches they released, it's running a lot better and getting to be more enjoyable. Not my favorite AC game, but it's solid.

Pretty sloppy game.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.AC Unity from the onset is a very good looking game graphically and does have a main character (name Arno) that is not annoying to play as. The game's story is just average ( seeking revenge by joining the brotherhood of assassins) with many boring and predictable plot twists. The main issues that many players including myself, who purchased the game on the release date, faced with this game are that the game is a programming mess with a lot of texture popping in and out, controls at times feel very tank like, very awful glitches that basically break or crash the game, NPCs that behave very odd like floating while moving. The game felt very half baked or basically a rush job. The side missions along with the multi-player missions were rather boring and not worth the time at all. Ubisoft decides to take the game down even more by adding unnecessary features like uPlay, micro transactions and companion app link. Do I recommend this game? Honestly, the answer is a NO if you have never played an AC game before. If you have played previous games, then it is a YES when the game is at a bargain price ($30 and below).
