Many found it easy to use and appreciate its small size. However, some customers noted that the adapter can overheat, and some felt the price was high relative to its capabilities. A limitation on refresh rate and resolution at higher settings was also mentioned by some users.

    Great HDMI Extractor

Works as described. Great build quality and warranty. I've noticed zero decline in my audio quality. Yes it's not HDMI 2.1 but for most of us that still run 1080p this will allow your PS5 to run at 120hz/120fps. That's all folks.

Great tool to use Astro A50 on PS5. Please know you can use this on earlier models of A50 (i.e. 2017) Therefore, you can buy a pair of refurbished A50 for ~ $100 and buy this and be good to go. There are enough expenses with expanding the memory ($200 - $300 for SSD) that you can save some money by buying some refurbished headset. I did and they work amazing.

Works For Xbox Series X Too.

Works perfectly for Xbox Series X! This was the fix to the horrid decision by Microsoft (and Sony) to remove the optical port on the next gen consoles. I use an Astro A50 headset and the "fix" of updating the headset's firmware to get them to use a USB only connection only provided stereo audio, not the 7.1 you get via optical. Anyway, this adapter fixed my issue and now my A50's are performing as they should. I took one star off because this uses the HDMI 2.0 spec, not the newest HDMI 2.1. (To be fare, none of the audio extractors available do). ...but this means at 4k, the maximum refresh rate you can set your Xbox to is 60Hz. If you have a 120hz TV/Monitor, you'll need to run in 1080p, otherwise it caps at 4K/60. Also, you might need to change (or reset) some settings on your TV if while using this adapter, your Series X doesn't recognize certain features of your TV, like HDR. Hint: make sure the HDMI port on your TV is set to UHD color.

Now I did a review on the Astro’s A40’s TR with Mixamp Pro if anything wants to check that out. Now to say the least if you have a PS4 slim or PS5, you for sure need this. It easy to set up and it works great. My headset has no sound lag or anything. Another amazing product by Astro !

Works like magic and really helps with my Astro A40 with Mixamp. I have a capture card because I record and It’s a standalone AVerMedia and I can connect to my PS5 and Capture Card while getting audio on game and mic for the capture card

An absolute need if you have the a50 and switching from ps4 to ps5. They will work without it but having it is like a hole new headset. Having it makes it just like it was when you were using it for the PS4 and it’s super easy to set up and can’t go wrong. Don’t worry about dropping it it’s aluminum it’s built nice. It’s also small to.

    Used for Z-5500 and PS5

I've had a Z-5500 5.1 Logitech speaker system that I used with my PS3 and PS4. It's not the fanciest system but the subwoofer and the speakers do wonders for movies and video games. The newer PS4's and the PS5 do not have an optical port, which is what I use with the Z-5500. This little adapter here is meant for splitting the HDMI output from the PS5 into separate HDMI video and optical outputs for Astro's headsets but it works just as well with any other audio system that accepts a digital optical signal... like my Z-5500! If you have an older speaker system that you use this way and don't want to shell out big bucks to buy a receiver, this little box will do exactly what you need!

Not real happy I had to spend money on a device to make a $350 set of headphones work with another device, but it works, and was fairly easy to install, set up. Used with PS5 to Astro A50 to Avermedia Live Ultra to Alienware R14. Works as advertised. Somewhat easy to set up for non tech savvy guy like me. Lul.

Honestly, not too pleased that I had to purchase this just to be able to use my $350 headset on my PS5. But whatever... Had it over a year now. It does what it's supposed to. My only concern is how hot it gets. I mean it gets HOT. Like burn your fingers if you hold on too long, HOT. It makes me nervous. But, like I said I've had it plugged in non-stop for over a year. I use my headset almost daily. So I'm happy.

Tbh I was mad i had to spend $40 on this after spending $300+ on the headphones that advertise as PS5 compatible. I don’t think Astro comprehends what that means. It was easy to put together. The instructions with Astro is terrible so i just watch YouTube videos . Astro needs to change there advertisements on the box or at least include the adapter with the headphones that your spending $300 on! Like i know you gotta make money but that’s a rip off mane

Didn't work properly with my TV

I picked this up for use with my Astro A50 gen 3 headset with my PS5 and Samsung 4K TV and while the audio quality was fantastic whenever I launched Destiny 2 the screen would go black but the audio would still be playing. I could hear the system audio and my TV would say that it was receiving a 4K 60hz signal but there was no picture until I restarted the PS5. I tried trouble shooting by unplugging and switching cables but nothing worked. Not sure if I had a defective unit or my TV is incompatible but I'm very disappointed in this adaptor and have returned it and do not recommend it to anyone with a 4K Samsung Smart TV. I also think the adaptor is overpriced at $40 since the headsets designed to use it are already expensive premium headsets and the fact that the adaptor is only HDMI 2.0b. I also find it inconvenient that it requires a usb cable to power. Incase you're curious my TVs model is RU8000 it is NOT HDMI 2.1 but I'm still complaining because for $40 it should have HDMI 2.1 and most owners of Astro A40 and A50 headsets are likely to have HDMI 2.1 screen either now or in the near future.

Hi Talley, Very sorry to hear that the Astro HDMI Adapter for PS5 didn't work properly with your TV. The reason why we didn't go with HDMI 2.1 is because 2.0 covers the majority of users and their hardware going into this next generation of consoles. The PlayStation 5 is limited in its 4k output for games to 60 Hz for gaming. For more information or if you have any other issues or concerns, please go to:  https://www.astrogaming.com/en-us/support.html. Thank you for choosing Astro. - Richard from Astro/Logitech

To the smooth brained entitled babies saying this doesn’t support HDMI 2.1: You can stop pretending you own a $3k tv when you don’t even realize it already has its own optical out port you can use so you wouldn’t need this extractor! The extractor works as advertised and even works on Xbox Series S/X. Make sure to set your HDMI audio to bit stream out and your bit stream format to Dolby digital. Again, don’t be a smooth brain, this is advertised as 1080p 60hz. If you want 4K 120 and aren’t just pretending to own a 3 thousand dollar HDMI 2.1 tv, then just use that TVs optical out and BOOM no adapter needed, no losing your totally not pretend 4K 120hz TV support either.

I bought a 4k HDR HDMI 2.1 monitor that stupidly doesn't have proper 5.1 optical out and no HDMI arc function. So in order to get surround sound I needed this device. I still get 4k 60 from ps5 and hopefully will get VRR too if ps5 ever updates, but for the price this device gave me the audio experience I wanted. I wish Sony still had optical out or my monitor had proper 5.1 pass through, but regardless, this inexpensive device did the trick!

I like the idea of it, using it with a PS5 to split off toslink from HDMI for Astro Gaming Headsets like the Mixamp versions for PS4/5, but why did it have to be HDMI 2.0 and not 2.1 like the console itself? The answer as you might have guessed was a quick buck over longevity. The manufacturer decided to support 2.0 and used something similar to the following excuse “Very few people need HDMI 2.1 as there are not a lot of 8K TVs out there and we wanted to target the largest consumer base.” Unfortunately, that is incredibly short sighted because many people that purchased a PS5 also likely bought it for 120Hz 4K gaming which is only possible with the bandwidth of HDMI 2.1. That said, it’s still a decent product. It does what it’s supposed to do.
