Would not recommend this pair!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been using astro for over 7 years and never had anything like this. The instructions in the box do not state that you need to update the mixamp to use it in the xbox nor does the setup video. Problem is the update does not work at all for the mixamp therefor i had to return the item. Customer service does nothing to help but send you a reddit link on how to fix the issue which also doesnt work

It’s okay
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s okay. The product is good but I think it’s kind of ridiculous that there is pretty much zero instructions on how to use the mix amp. Gotta look up YouTube videos

Nice headset aesthetically
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Astro headsets are nice but expensive to say the least this is the second pair of a40s I've owned figured I would try them out because it looks like they upgraded from the last edition and they didn't even last 10 days the aux cable that goes from the mixer amp to the headset got scratchy sounding after about 7 days and then just stopped working altogether so I returned it promptly. For a price tag of 249.99 usd and then a 60 usd warranty it should have lasted a lot longer. But I will no longer be purchasing astro headsets anymore they have too many problems for the price.

Really comfortable with a good sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My main takeaway from these headphones is they're quite comfortable for extended sessions. I use these on PC while I stream and it's a very big change from my AudioTechnica headset that has leather cups that clamp to your head a lot firmer. If that's what you like, this headset may not be for you BUT you may be able to change that so keep an open mind. Setup is pretty simple for me. Just plug my Astro A40 into the same jack I had my old headphones plugged into. End of story. A couple of volumes needed to be adjusted but that was basically all of the setup I really needed. I'm not currently using the MixAmp as I'm streaming on a simple PC and I don't generally stream my consoles so I just haven't found a use for it yet. I will be looking for a reason to use it in the future as it feels very well made and having those volume adjustments without tabbing out of whatever I was doing. I'm not certain how great the MixAmp sounds but the instructions provided give you a good idea of how to connect it depending on the setup you're looking to achieve. So setup is pretty easy. Sound is pretty good. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile or anything but I haven't noticed any decrease in audio quality. The volume gets loud. Games and music both sound pretty great to me. This is a wired headset so you're not worrying about latency and other bluetooth caveats. They feel really good! This may just be personal preference and some people may like the headphones that really clamp to your head and kind of "seal" your ears in. These are very breathable and and very light. They feel a lot lighter than they look and they fit pretty loosely over your ears but I don't notice them sliding around or anything so they seem to stay pretty secure anyways. After extended sessions, I don't have to worry about my ears getting sweaty or anything. The cups that are included are large enough to completely cover my ears without squishing them at all. Again, this could just be my personal preference, but coming from a style of headset with "leather" cups that clamped down on my head a lot harder, these felt miles better to me. If this fit isn't for you, one of the neat features I noticed was that the panels and cups are all held in place with magnets. You can pop the ear cups and the side panels right off of headphones and just replace them with what they call a "Mod Kit". I haven't tried this as I don't own one of their mod kits but supposedly they have one that's geared more towards tournament play that may isolate your ears more and let less sound in from outside. So you appear to have options if the looser, breathable ear cups aren't your bag of tea. All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this headset. I've only tried it with my PC but considering that the hook up to connect it to an Xbox is just to plug the 3.5mm headphone jack into your controller, I can't image it being very difficult. I also suspect that the standard analog connection should work with a PS4 as well but I have not tested this. The MixAmp is probably the thing that will only work on Xbox in the version that I have so keep that in mind if you're planning on using the MixAmp. If you're looking for a nice, comfortable pair of headphones to use for extended periods of game play, I definitely recommend these.

Best wired headphones
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hate wireless headphones because something always goes wrong with them. So I was looking for a wired set and found these. You do have to update them on a computer first if using on Xbox.

Get the Mixamp version
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mix amp version is worth it. Had the the A40 without it and the edge it gives you to be able to adjust in game volume on the fly is unbeatable.

It's alright I guess
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're planning on buying this for the new Xbox series X or Ps5, they don't support optical ports, so save your money and get a different headset

Most problematic headsets
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried the a50 for a month , those kept disconnecting even after updating, returned them to try out the a40s with mixamp pro for also about a month and one side barely output any noise and again I tried updating them and new cords but nothing. Finally tried these a40s and still giving me problems with one side outputting barely anything and it they don’t detect about half of what’s going down. So after 3 pairs of Astros I wouldn’t recommend at all. Most problematic headsets I’ve ever used.

Not worth the dough, Worse than the old A40
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My MA3X03 Mixamp went out on me randomly after 5+ loyal years of service and I opted to buy the entire TR headset again, so I could have it same day as opposed to paying roughly half for just a new Mixamp that would have to be ordered. You can immediately tell that the quality of the new headset does not compare to the old White TR. The new Black TR headset is smaller and feels cheap. When holding both headsets by the top cross support, and shaking them, the old White A40TR does not make any sound and feels solid whereas the new Black A40TR rattles... I kind of regret buying them, based on the quality I knew from prior Astro products that is no longer present vs the $250 price. The new headset is also smaller, which is bad for someone who is six and a half feet tall. If you have a great headset, keep it! and just by the Mixamp by itself.

Don't Even Read This -- Buy These Now!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an owner of 3 different sets of gaming headphones, the Astro A40 immediately became my favorite within 5 minutes of using them. Comfort, sound, and customization all immediately stand out as reasons you should just stop reading right here and buy these. Still reading? Okay, let’s get more specific. The A40s are as comfortable as they come. Fabric-covered ear pads and headband make these extremely soft and easy to wear for extended periods versus hotter leather or faux leather covers that end up making you sweat. The headband doesn’t just expand from the top, but the ear pieces actually slide up & down to make them fit perfectly with near-zero pressure on the sides of your head. The only downside is thanks to larger drivers and some metal components they are slightly heavier than many other headphones, something that you’ll likely notice right away if you’re already using another brand of headphones but acclimate to within a few minutes. Sound is absolutely incredible, even better when used with Dolby Atmos-enabled games. Even using these to simply listen to music is amazing. As a note, the headphones come with a 2-year subscription to Dolby Atmos for Xbox with a redemption code card in the box. If you’re using a non-Dolby game you’ll want to disable to Dolby mode on the MixAmp or you’ll get a weird echo effect in the game. I am a PC gamer, but also occasionally revert back to my Xbox One, and the headphones work extremely well with both. WARNING: Make sure if you’re buying these to use with a gaming console to purchase the proper one – there are different models for Xbox versus PlayStation, but either will work with PC (it’s a matter of how the sound mixer connects to the gaming consoles, with each headphone model coming with a different cable). The headphones come with a very professional-grade “MixAmp”, allowing the gamer to easily change the overall volume (large dial), as well as to tweak the mix of game sound versus game chat. Tired of the pre-teens chatting about unrelated garbage in the game? Dial them out and focus on game sound. Don’t want to miss another “Leeroy Jenkins!” moment? Dial up the chat mix and lower game sounds. On the MixAmp, the volume and game/voice knobs have an LED indicator to easily show where your dials are at a glance. The mixer also features a standard/Dolby toggle button and a 4-option toggle button for EQ presets (bass boost, tournament sound, etc.). All 4 EQ levels can be customized using the downloadable software from Astro on your PC or app on Xbox. On the back of the mixer, a 2-position switch changes between PC mode and Xbox mode. The mixer also features 2 “daisy chain” ports to connect multiple players together, a “Streaming” line-out to allow you to pump sound from the mixer and game to a streaming platform like Twitch or YouTube, and an optical line out for Xbox. The headphones connect to the MixAmp with a double-ended headphone jack cable, which also has an in-line mute switch which is beefy and easy to locate without looking. My biggest complaint about the cable is that the 2 ends are different, meaning if you reverse that connection they won’t work and the instructions fail to tell you that clearly when unboxing. (The longer end plugs into the headphones with the shorter end plugging in to the MixAmp). The boom mic is very long and flexes nicely to your chosen position. That same boom can be flipped around to allow a left or right-sided placement based on your preference. The headphones can also be “modded” out to your liking with mod packs available for purchase. The mod packs come with new pads and boom mics to change the colors (for example “blue” or “Call of Duty” colors). But, if you’re on a gaming team and don’t mind spending some additional money, you can even fully customize the colors and have your gaming team logo printed on the ear panels. As with just about any peripheral you buy today, especially for PC, you’re going to need the software for full ability to control the devices. The Astro software will allow you to update firmware, configure the EQ settings, and change other settings dealing with the sensitivity of the mic. I found the ability to change the mic sensitivity the best since I like to game with some background music in the room. Those changes allow you to control how much ambient noise is picked up, or whether it needs to be extremely aggressive for use in loud tournament or group settings. Bottom line is that yes, these are a little pricey, but you will be EXTREMELY pleased with the sound, durability, and usability of the headphones for all your gaming needs. Why haven’t you bought these already?
