Astro - Out Of This World!!!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Astro Gaming - A40 TR Wired Stereo Gaming Headset (Gen 3) is ahead of the curve and probably one of the best gaming headsets on the market today. It’s loaded with a ton of features that many headsets already have and some that most don’t. Digital Daisy Chain, 3D Audio Ready, Game/Voice Balance, Swappable/Customizable Parts are just some of them. The design is impressive, sleak and the headset is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. It’s also customizable, tags can be changed to different logos, colors can also be changed with swappable parts as well, via a A40 TR mod kit. The ear cups are magnetized and can be swapped out as well. Where this headset really shines is in the speakers and MixAmp Pro TR device. The speakers are the best sound, highs, lows. When listening to footsteps or hearing shell casings drop to the ground after firing a weapon, it’s all there. Total immersion in the game. Where the MixAmp Pro comes in, you can balance or adjust the amount of game sound or chat sound to your liking using the dial on the right. The dial on the left is for total volume control. This headset is the loudest I have experienced, since you can control the sound through the MixAmp Pro and not software on the console or PC. The sound control is unmatched because of the dial, you can adjust it with precise granularity. There are headsets out there with controls for sound on the headset themselves but these don’t even compare to the MixAmp Pro. Along with the dials, there is a built in equalizer with four settings, ASTRO, Balanced, Flat 4 and Tournament. Each of these offer unmatched sound equalization for anyone’s liking. If you happen not to like these, they can also be tweaked using the Astro Command Center. Simply install the software and connect the MixAmp Pro to your PC. The software will detect it and you can edit, adjust and save the configuration to your headset. You can also use this software to update the firmware on the MixAmp Pro, which is also recommended. My only caveat, there is no power button. You’ll need to unplug the USB connection from the console or PC to turn off the MixAmp Pro. On the console, I set to power off USB when the console is off but this did not turn off the MixAmp Pro. Hopefully this can be adjusted in a firmware update in lieu of a power button. This should not deter you from this headset though. If you are a gamer, pro level or not, this is the headset to have. It has a base price of $250 but worth every single penny.
