Bad for Series X
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to pair with my Xbox Series X. Got everything setup and I can’t hear anything. $250 wasted on something that doesn’t work.

DOESN’T WORK WITH THE SERIES X/S
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This does not work well with the next gen Xbox. Since there is no optical port on the series x I would not recommend getting this headset.

loud sounding
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been wanting a astro headset for a while now. I am glad I finally got one. these are loud and when tuned right, sound great for playing games. I have a few different brand headsets and out of them all, I prefer these now. they are comfortable (when adjusted right), sound great and I like that with the amp you can pretty much control everything you need to. a few headsets I own, razer kraken pros, turtle beach elite pro 2, Sennheiser pc 360, and a Logitech G935. as well as regular headphones. the app allows a bit more customization for sounds. I play online and so I could not check out the linking part. supposedly if you have friends with the same amp, you can link them for chatting so you don't have to chat using software etc. the mic sounds great and I love that you can place it on either side. I like that you can rotate the mic up so you can have it out of the way like if you are eating. I wished that it would also mute it though which it does not. it mutes with a inline button on the cord itself. I like that the pieces can be removed so you can get custom pieces as well as mods to make this a closed back. some of the CONS that I have and why 4 stars. one big issue is that the mic sounds great, however now and then it seems to cut out for a second now and then. basically a big thing for gaming. like I mentioned I also would have loved that the mic auto mutes when you rotate it up. astro site also says it comes with a splitter cable for pc. it does not. which is not needed for the most part but if you stream, it can be a pain getting sound to streaming pc with a 2 pc setup, so you would need to get a third party software. where as when its plugged in thru the 3.5mm audio ports you can get it set up to not need other software. and I wished it came with a case. overall though being that I am partially deaf, these are loud and I love using them.

Cutting Edge Gaming Environment
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The cream of the crop gaming headphones just got reloaded with the 4th generation of the tournament ready Astro Gaming A40 + Mixamp Pro. The headphones came well packaged and documented in a sturdy “supply drop” style box. Setting up took only a few minutes without the need for downloading extra drivers. The A40 is designed for “marathon gaming sessions" and are “lightweight, comfortable and built to last.” They are easily upgradable with the ability to add Mod Kits which feature synthetic leather noise-isolating ear cushions, a voice isolating mic, a padded headband, and closed-back speaker tags. They also support Dolby Atmos and Windows Sonic on the PC which gives you a competitive edge with full 3D positional audio. The Mixamp Pro is an exponential upgrade from the original Mixamp, featuring 1 full-size optical, micro USB, aux, stream, and even 2 daisy chain ports. The two dials on the top of the Mixamp control the volume and the sound balance between your game’s sound and your teammates’ voices. Two buttons control the switch from Dolby Surround Sound to stereo and the four different equalizer presets which are customizable in the Astro Command Center software. Sound quality is the best I ever heard from headphones even with Dolby Atmos off. Music doesn’t sound great but is better than all other headphones I’ve tried. The A40 headphones are exceptionally comfortable but when I use them for 2 hours my ears start to get sore. The bottom of the headphone rests on my lower ear lobe, suggest if you are looking at the headphones to try before you buy. Microphone sounds crystal clear with a customizable noise gate in the Command Center Software. The only problem I have with the microphone is when I breathe it picks it up and I must move the microphone down a bit. Overall, if you’re looking for a top of the line, portable gaming headset the Astro A40 is a winner.

5 star once you get it up and running
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The controller and headset work great. The only reason I say it's less than a 5 star is because there is a learning curve, a couple of firmware updates and a few wires to figure out. That said, I got it up and running and it works great. With that said, first off the packaging is very well done. Both items come in a nicely designed box that has a place for everything. The controller furthers that with a soft case that holds the controller, the USB cable, the extra controller parts and a hex tool. The headset comes complete with USB cable, detachable mic, daisy chain cable, inline mute cable and toslink cable. The headset works and sound great. I tried it out with foobar2000 and played a number of flac songs. They all sounded wonderful although the mix amp didn't do much for the audio. If I had any complaints, they would be: 1. I started to sweat a bit with the foam ear pads. I think a different material would have been a better choice to start with. 2. There are a number of sharp edges on the black frame around the adjustments as well as the top of the adjustment posts. A bit of better finishing would keep fingers from getting cut. The adjustment itself seems a bit wonky, but it works great with my big melon. I didn't even need to max it out like I do on some other brands. Nice The controller. What a pain to get it going. I downloaded the Windows app like it said. It wanted to do a firmware update. I figure go ahead since the app didn't see the wireless controller. It finished updating and still didn't see the wireless. It just kept saying to switch to wired and install the cable. So I relented and did as it asked. It immediately wanted to do a firmware update again. I guess the first was for the transmitter and the second for the controller. Once I got that done, the app still didn't see the wireless. So I played a Steam game with it wired. I played Pinball FX3 and it worked great. I was able to maneuver through the menu and play the game without touching the keyboard. I then figured I'd try wireless even though the app said it didn't see a controller. Well, Windows did and again it played the game flawlessly. In fact I set my personal best on Theatre of Magic. The wasn't any lag on the flippers, wired or wireless. As I said in the beginning, once I got through the setup, the controller is a 5. As a combo, knowing what to connect to what is the learning curve. When I went from wired to wireless, I lost audio. I had the headset connect to the mixer and it worked wired, but not wireless. There isn't any real instruction on what to do, but I guessed the inline mute cable connected directly into the controller. Tada, sound again. Not sure if that's right, but it works and that's 90% of the battle. So for me, I'm done with setup and ready to play some more games. I haven't figured out how to use it with Twitch, but I Google'd it and see that others are in the same boat with controllers and Twitch. Something about their software. Anyway, for those more adventurous than me, you can unbolt the controller and move the thumb pad and sticks around to suit your liking. There are extras in the package as well as modules you can purchase. For a Windows 10 user, I'd recommend this headset/controller combo to anyone. I can't say one way or the other about xbox one as I don't own one. I'm a PS3 user and I don't see a need to get a 4. I'll skip it as it's long in the tooth and see what consoles come out next for both Microsoft and Sony.
