Mix amp is not worth it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The headset on its own is really solid but I’d advise on not getting the mix amp I’m not sure how it is on ps4 but for Xbox I was not able to get the mic to work so I returned it the day I bought it

Great Sound, Great Connectivity!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had originally picked these up to use with my PC. After setting them up (which required downloading software from Astro's website) and plugging in the control box I was up and running! Sound is very good, especially for gaming. Good, deep rumbling bass and a movie-theater like sound. Included in the box is a code for Dolby Atmos for headphones. Even without the Atmos they sound great. If you're looking for headphones exclusively for music, you're probably better suited for something else since the highs are a little harsh (burn in may fix this) but for gaming and movies, you'd be hard pressed to find anything better. While gaming you can control the mix of game sound and headset chatter, and the headphones have a good amount of sidetone (the ability to hear yourself talking), which I appreciate a lot. The control box also has buttons to turn the Dolby effects on and off and toggle through EQ curves, which you can set up in the software on your PC. I started experimenting with the box and found that you can use it as a DAC to pulg in other headphones! I was able to use my trusty Sennheiser headphones to listen to music. More interesting was the fact that I could use the headphones, mic and all, with my Mac Pro using a USB-C to USB adapter! With all of the improvements in gaming on the new iPadOS this was a welcome discovery. Comfort is amazing, and they feel like they're going to take a beating and last a long time. The box itself also feels sturdy and has a nice weight to it so it doesn't move around on the desk while you adjust the volume. I can't recommend the A40 more. Definitely a solid gaming setup!

Superb Sound and Comfort
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones are simply Superb! My biggest con is the reliance on the little mixamp device that means you need to use them with usb. My gaming laptop's usb ports come at a bit of a premium, but aside from that there really aren't any cons to speak of. You can pull that out of the mix and use the 1/8in jack, but I'm not so sure what functionality I really lose by doing this. I suppose there's one small thing to complain about with regards to the ear cups. They only came with fabric cups and not leather or other materials as an option. But that's really not that big of a con. Chances are there are options out there to add that on. I don't really notice an excessive problem with heat and discomfort wearing these fabric cups, so to me it's not a huge problem. Aside from all that, the sound and comfort is simply superb. They fit really good and have a nice rigid slide for adjusting the size to fit. So no accidental size changes mid-use. I love that the boom mic is removable and can be adjusted to either side of your face. There are some pretty fun little aftermarket mods you can pickup that let you chance colors and such. The sound quality is just fantastic. They work really well with Windows Atmos support and have a fantastic bass response. I've noticed no real distortion or problem with the sound. They are just really nice headphones all around. I was playing Assassins Creed Odyssey recently with these on and pretty much got lost in the game. Between the visuals, the rich sound, and the noise isolation I was completely ignoring the outside world. Would highly recommend them to anyone!

Don't Listen to Technically Challenged Reviewers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setting these headphones up to work with an Xbox is extremely easy. Do not allow some of the "reviews" to stop you from buying these because of fear they will be a pain to setup. It took me 5 minutes. Switch the Mix Amp to PC and connect it via USB to a PC. Download Astro Command Center from the Windows Store and when the application opens you will be prompted to install the newest firmware. Unplug it from the PC, switch the Mix Amp to Xbox, plug it into the Xbox as directed and power on. You should see an a message stating the headset is assigned to your user profile. If your Xbox ever does not recognize a mic for chat, hard start your Xbox by holding the power button until it powers down. Sound quality and comfort are great. I have not had any issues, and they are an improvement over my 1st Gen A50s.

Great set of Headphones for the Serious Gamer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had heard about Astro Gaming's quality headsets but never really wanted to spend the extra money, but man am I glad I finally did! This headset is AMAZING! Compared to my old Logitech these things blow them out the water. The presentation is amazing and they really feel like a quality set of headphones. They are a bit heavier than normal headphones but you get used to that within a few minutes. The ear pads are very very comfortable and don't make my head get overheated like others. Playing Apex legends on these headsets I could hear where everything was coming from. They are very good at differentiating distance so I could tell when enemies were close or far which is very helpful for First Person Shooters. The Mixamp is probably a little bit more customization then I really need, but I could see how they would be useful if you're a streamer. The headphones come with a Dolby Atmos subscription which is a nice touch. Listening to audio on my pc the headphones sound really nice as well and them being wired allows you to use them with other devices like an older iphone or Xbox or PS4 just simply by using the 3.5mm jack. Another feature is they're moddable and the pieces can be switched out magnetically which I thought was pretty cool. All in all I would highly recommend these for the serious gamer in your life, they're really well made headphones and will probably last for years to come on future systems so they're definitely worth the investment.

Best Gaming Headset hands down, Must buy worth it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're like me you come to the reviews to see if you can get a indication if the product is good. Well let me tell you I love these new astro a40. My headset the Astro a50 TR were amazing but I've had them for 2 years and they were worn out a little and was looking into buying a new pair when these a40 came out of no where. I was hesitant because i loved my wireless a50 TR but after owning these a40 TR V2 i must say i absolutely love them. The sound quality is amazing i can tell the a slight different. I forgot how easy it was to lower the game volume or my friends depending on the gaming situation compared to the a50s. The new mix amp looks so cool like a DJ's turn table i love the design. since its an honest review I will tell you that the astro command center PC app doesn't work yet, but i bet astro will come out with an update soon. also when i turn my xbox on it doesn't pick up the mic right away you have to switch it to pc and then to xbox mode and it will pick it up and you'll be good to go. Also the mic quality is amazing, my friends tell me i sound better than ever like HD quality but its a little too good lol as it does pick up a little background noise. Not a deal breaker at all for such a great headset. PROS: -Amazing sound quality, I don't even have to have the volume all the way up and I can hear footstep perfectly and I'm an older dude lol -How easy it is to lower or raise the volume compared to my old fav headset the a50 TR. With these a40 you'll be able to control the volume like a pro. -New astro mixamp design, it just looks so cool like a DJ's Turn table. -Mic quality is amazing so my Friends tell me, They said I sound way better than any other headset I've had i was honestly surprised to hear them say that since I know they'll clown me if my mic was bad in the past but no they say its amazing, great quality. - These Astro a40 TR V2 comes with a Free code 2 years subscription to Dolby Atmos in the box and you redeem it through xbox marketplace.. Con Nothing major really -Small bug when you turn xbox on it doesn't pick up your headset right away even if its in xbox mode. you just have to switch it to PC mode then back to xbox mode and it picks it up and you'll be good to go nothing major. -Astro pc app is not compatible just yet Astro command center PC app. That is all I highly recommend this headset, I'm crowning the best Gaming headset, well worth it.

Horrible product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son. Mix amp won’t update as required. Should come already updated and ready to use. Customer service by Astro is horrible. Best Buy did a great job and my exchange was completely hassle free. I would definitely not recommend purchasing this product.

Junk
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Headphone quality and build is great. Support and functionality are garbage. Could not update mixamp to use with my Xbox at all. Company has apparently been plagued with this for over a year and offer no help whatsoever. Save the money and buy something else.

Complicated set up for XBOX
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These were really annoying to set up. We had to return them several times thinking the headset was the problem. At the end we figured out we needed to buy a separate adapter/ cable in order to work w/ Xbox. For the price and being wireless you would expect to be a simple set up but no. Worse experience.

Solid build quality, great sound, comfortable!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Astro headset, and I have to admit I am impressed. I have tried Astro sets in the past, and was never blown away by the build quality. They have always been comfortable, I just expect something at a higher price-point to feel less flimsy. Well I have to say, Astro really stepped their game up with their newest generation of headsets. They have a good weight to them, no creakiness, and over all just feel really solid. The included cables even feel premium. The ear cups are soft and can be worn for hours without fatigue. I notice my ears getting a little warm, but nothing unmanageable. Sound quality is crisp and clear, with tight and clean bass. Friends online have said my voice comes through loud and clear. Overall, I can't really ask for much more in a headset. Looks, feels, and sounds pretty great.

$250+no instructions +horrible tech support
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For 250.00 you expect for them to work and be plug and play. So they are not. No big deal right I'll just call tach support......wait they dont have one you have to email one which you'll get a quick response saying they respond in 2-3 days. Returning this junk not worth my time.

Love these Headphones
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall these are impressive headphones for gaming. Hooked up to the computer with no issues and I was off gaming. They sound great for gaming. Playing the Division 2, I felt like I was an agent in DC and the fact these come with a USB Sound Card (the mixer) is also handy, esp. if your sound card isn't up to snuff. Overall this is a simple presentation with the App (Windows 10 Store app for me) is simple and allows for adjustment of the 4 presets to dial in the sound the way you like it for different content from Games to Movies. The Headphones were comfortable and you can mod them to go from closed back to a more open back sound stage which is a nice change of pace. Again the sound of crisp and with the included code for Windows 10/Xbox for 2 years of Dolby Atmos sound is a nice touch to really enhance the game play. The mic can go left or right side (again a nice touch since I could position it the way I liked it and it picked up sound great. There are a number of streaming options to allow you to adjust voice/game play so if you do stream this can help you get the right sound and it will take an optical In cable(mostly for XBOX Gaming) will work on PC, but I found the USB Worked better. It was nice to see the cable included too. The only downside for XBOX (Couch) gaming is the fact this device is wired. The cords are long, but if you sit a distance from your TV just note it is cabled, if you want to use the Amp/Mixer. Otherwise I'm sure the headphones will plug directly into a controller, but you lose a bit I'm sure in the sound. Honestly though even trailing wires the sound was vibrant and alive and if I got this for XBOX gaming I'd deal with cables on my floor to enjoy the glorious soundstage. Astro really did but everything into this, as even the packaging was well thought out and looked great. The fact they took the time on the box shows the thought they put completely into the whole product. I am very happy with these and the sound and look forward to many hours gaming with them and enjoying being immersed in my game.

Loud and Extremely Clear
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Astro A40 TR with Pro Mixamp offered some of the most amazing audio performance I’ve heard from a gaming headset. As someone that owns a few pairs of “pro” level gaming headsets, these blew me away. Right from the package, you know these are made to impress. The box has an almost custom package feel to it. Very nice and superbly made. When not in use, the box is somewhere great to store your headset, or even when travelling. The headset is built with premium materials, very sturdy and offers a superb custom fit. The earpieces and headband are connected via a metal alloy system for opening and closing the pair for larger fits. I have a larger head, and these fit very comfortably. The headband is padded nicely, and the large over the ear cushions offered tremendous comfort, even during long sessions. They are open back, so they don’t give that quasi noise cancelling feeling that some other closed back models do, but the sound fidelity and quality is amazing, you won’t care they are open back, trust me. Astro almost makes lots of mod pieces for their headphones, so if open vs. closed back matters, they do offer closed back plates you can get. The ear cups are soft fabric, and after hours of use, my ears still did not get too warm. The flexible mic can be mounted on either earpiece, and can fold up vertical when not in use. The mic offered sound quality that was so crystal clear, some of my friends couldn’t believe I was on a headset mic. The Mixamp Pro is similar to a couple other brands that offer this type of feature, and it competes very well. Very sturdy construction with nice large dials that have a nice resistance to the knobs. The headset can get very loud with the mixamp but the audio is always clear. You can select to engage Dolby Audio or basic stereo, and there are 4 pre created EQ settings you can choose from. What’s great is that with the Astro command center, you can fine tune or edit completely all of the presets, or create your very own profile. The audio is definitely tuned for pro esports. From the moment you start a match, you can hear things that you couldn’t hear before with your current headphones. I loved having the ability to custom fine tune the audio profile, to add Bass if I wanted, or to lower some high-end frequencies, etc. I will say the software feels sort of glitch, and I’ve seen this in other reviews. Sometimes it worked, sometime I needed to reboot or reconnect the headphones, etc. Same when trying to update the firmware, very glitch at times. But that’s not a big issue for me because once you have your sound profiles set, I don’t see folks needing to access the software that often. The Dolby Atmos blew me away. They come with 2yrs of Dolby Atmos free on Xbox or Windows 10 and when using the Atmos, it’s a game changer. Hearing the audio in the 360-degree spacial profile just blows stereo or even normal 5.1 surround out of the water. It feels like total immersion it whatever you’re playing or even watching. Hands down, this might be the new best pair I own, not even close.

Amazing but... Astro Please Help!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Build quality, comfort, sound quality... all A+!!! But my PC does NOT recognize the mixamp when it's plugged in and therefore I can't change ANY of the settings. $300 for this setup, Astro should have this figured out BEFORE the release.

Amazing headphones
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got these headphones to use on PC. I was nervous the surround sound would not work since my PC has no optical port for the optical cable, but they give you a 2 year subscription code to dolby atmos for the full 7.1 surround sound experience. I have owned turtle beach stealth 500x, elite 700, and the old A40 mixamp pros, then I bought the $300 A50 when i switched to pc and hated them, so glad these ones came out, way better than a50s, plus cheaper. Out of all the headsets i've owned these are without a doubt my favorites. The mixamp allows custom sound for games and movies and its impossible to not like the sound in these headphones since theres so much custom-ability. The price is well worth it. Also, the mic quality is good and i get asked if im a streamer or youtuber a lot because of it.

Simple to use and high quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Astro A40's are a great headset for the price. They have a great level of sound quality and are very comfortable to wear. The mixamp provides an easy way to control the different levels of sound you'll be hearing whether you're gaming, watching movies, listening to music, chatting with your friends, or working. I highly recomend this headset as it's user friendly while at the same time is higher quality than most headsets. Set up is a breeze and I haven’t had any issues so far
