Wonderful wireless headset for Xbox
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Black/gold with base station for Xbox Series X Pros • Footsteps and gunfire in CoD/Apex pop with punchy bass and precise Dolby Audio – pairs perfectly with Scuf Instinct Pro. 72 • Boom mic is broadcast-clear; no complaints in party chat. 59 • Velour pads + adjustable fit = all-day comfort (5+ hr sessions, no sweat). 77 • Base station auto-charges, low-latency wireless, solid 15-18 hr battery. 99 Cons • Series X setup: Optical from LG C2 TV (PCM mode) – 10min hassle, no direct console optical. 50 • Battery trails newer headsets; charges overnight. 101 Bottom line: Xbox FPS beast at this price in 2025. Skip if you want Bluetooth/multi-platform – otherwise, grab the refurb and dominate.

Best Gaming headset I’ve used on the Xbox One X
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used all sorts of headsets for the Xbox over the years and I thought I was sold on a different brand until I tried these A50s. I suffer from a high-end hearing loss so where most standard gaming headphones would sound great to most people, I end up missing a lot of nuances. These headphones get the job done! The ASTRO A50 Wireless Headphones are provide absolute immersion into your gaming experience. The bundle I have comes with a base station for charging and wireless transmission from your gaming system to your headphones. The headphones provide Dolby Headphone Surround Sound. They are engineered with spatial placement for a three-dimensional audio experience. They are fully wireless and have a 15+ hour battery life. The A50 will automatically shutoff when inactive and power on when it detects motion (i.e. if you pick them up and place them on your head). The microphone is a precision mic. Flexible and durable it offers clear, low noise communication and is optimized for gaming on the major gaming platforms (Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC and Mac). The mic’s boom arm operates the mute/unmute function. A simple flip upward mutes the mic and when you pull it down, it unmutes. In addition to the simple mic operation, you have the ability to adjust the ratio of game audio to voice chat. There is an Astro Command Center that is available for download for free that allows you to customize mic levels, EQ settings, and even share audio settings with other gamers. Getting started with the A50s wasn’t too difficult. In order to update the firmware you will need to download the Astro app — Astro Command Center. To connect to the software, you will need to plug your headphones in using a USB cable. You will need to make sure the base station is switched to “PC Mode” and then click the “ok” button on the prompt that states “A firmware update is required”. Once the update has finished you switch the base station back to “Xbox” and plug it back into the gaming system. With the Astro Command Center you also have the option to change settings for the devices. I connected them to my Xbox One X to start my first gaming experience with them. The first game I played with the A50s was Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. I was just blown away. The sound quality was wonderful and for someone who has normal hearing, these are probably such a game changer that it’s almost like cheating when playing against others. For me, I am hearing other players footsteps and gunfire from the direction it’s coming from. This is something I’m not used to being able to hear so it was like a wake-up call for me. The ASTRO A50’s are insanely good. So how about comfort? When I play I play for hours at a time, I’m not getting any headaches or sore ears. The ear cushions are super soft to the touch and they connect by magnets to the headset so they can be replaced super easily if they wear out or get damaged. These have been the best gaming headset I think I have ever owned. I don’t think I have ever been this happy with any other headphones…ever. I have some wonderful ANC headphones I love for music but even as great as they are, I have never been as happy to use them as I am the A50s. The A50s have honestly been a game changer for me. Are these worth buying? Absolutely. ASTRO has made incredible gaming headphones that are built well, feel great, and most importantly sound amazing!

The 2019 A50s are GOATd!
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had these bad boys for a little over 10 months now, and I have yet to find fault in their design and execution. I've owned a pair of the original 2012 models as well as the 2014 model that followed it, and imo the 4th gen here, designed specifically for both the Xbox One and Series generations? It has truly surpassed every competitor in the wireless gaming headset arena and has blown me away with its level of fidelity, comfort, and reliability. I game fairly frequently, at least 6-8 hours during a busy work week, and I may have to charge once every 2-3 weeks? Not to mention the fact that im notoriously horrible at remembering to shut them off when I'm not using them. Thank God for the fact that theyll power themselves off if they detect thar they haven't been worn for I wanna say 10 minutes? I've never experienced any issues with latency, interference, or voice pick-up at any point in time. I'm literally able to step away from my console and the A50s base-station and run to the restroom on the other end of the house, approximately 120ft away from the base, or go out to the mailbox to chrck for mail, about 60 ft away, and not lose connection. Even with multiple, multiple interior walls between the bathroom and base, as well as a brick exterior wall and 3 interior walls between the base and the mailbox. Needless to say, Astro has truly outdone themselves and have set the bar insanely high for other top teir gaming headsets. I personally have yet to find another headset that comes even remotely close to any of their latest models. So I'm truly eager to see what they release next! Oh btw, we both know you'll get over the price at some point so why bother stressing over it?

Awesome headset, lacks some competitive features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought a pair of A50s and I'm very impressed. They sound great, especially in first person shooters where localizing a sound is very important. The microphone is receptive and the headphones are very sturdy. The best thing about this headset is that you don't need a chat puck or a 3.5mm connection of any kind from the controller to headset. I absolutely love love love that! Few headsets actually do that. The volume adjustment dial is pretty addicting to fidget with, it's very tactile. Having contact charging is awesome! No more plugging things in unless you have to. The removable earmuffs are a nice touch too: Very magnetic. The metal frame is robust. A few gripes: The headband isn't comfortable, it pulls your hair. The removable pad on the headband is difficult to remove. There is no obvious voice monitoring button to prevent you from shouting. Sadly it also has some lacking features that could be implemented: -The ability to update the headset via the Xbox One, rather than through USB connection to a PC. -A sound mixing app for iOS and Android so people can use Bluetooth. The Turtle Beach PX51 is a good example of the multimedia technology that mobile users strongly desire. -Include the mod kits with the purchase of an A50 series, so that customers feel like they got their money's worth. -a flexible microphone boom with a windsock Like Microsoft uses on their stereo headsets. Tl;Dr it's great but not quite exceptional. Going to do some more "research" :D

Immersive Audio, Great Comfort
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.---SETUP--- The setup of the Astro A50s was quick and simple. These are replacing a competitors headset which also had a base. The same cables from the other headset worked for this one, but I still switched to the ones included in with the Astros. Set up took about 2 minutes. ---FEATURES--- Pros: - Astro Audio V2 - Dolby Audio - A free Dolby Atmos code for 2 year subscription - Voice vs. Game audio balance from headset - 15+ hours of battery life - A base with input and output optical cables - Chargeable headset via base or micro-USB cable - Magnetic, replaceable ear cushions and headband - Adjustable head-to-ears sliders - Adjustable mic - Mic monitoring - Xbox and PC compatible - Over-the-ear muff cushions Cons: - Does not have an auxiliary port for use with other devices outside of base. ---PERFORMANCE--- The performance of these Astro 50s was phenomenal. In games like Apex Legends and Call of Duty, I could more clearly hear footsteps or gunfire from the direction they were coming from. For movies, activate the included Dolby Atmos Code and look for a movie on Netflix that uses Dolby Atmos. You will be amazed at what you’ve been missing out on in terms of sound. However, even shows that don’t have Dolby Atmos, the sound on the headset is amazing. ---EXPECTATIONS--- The product exceeds my expectations. My previous headset was beginning to garble. This headset makes all sounds nice, crisp, and clear. My teammates hear me clearly and the range is impressive, which is good to keep on communicating during snack refill breaks. An underrated feature is that the base has an input and output for optical cables. What this allows you to do is to connect the base to the Xbox but still connect a separate device that uses optical cables. What I was able to do was to connect the optical out with my own optical cable and plug that in to the TV. This allows me to listen to anything else that I have connected to the TV, including my PS4, my Nintendo Switch (when docked), and my PC without having to switch any cables. Of course, you can’t use the microphone with that hook-up, but my other consoles are used mainly for story-driven, single-player campaigns, so I don’t need the mic in those instances. ---VALUE--- The price for the Astro 50s in terms of value are well worth the investment. With replaceable ear and headband cushions, you wouldn’t need to buy a new pair again, just replace those parts that have shown wear and tear over the years. ---APPROVAL--- I highly recommend this product for gamers whose main console is the Xbox (or PC) but also own other consoles that you want to listen to things on. Now, I can play my video games or watch my Ultra HDR 4k movies with theatre-like sounds without waking up my neighbors or my wife.

Excellent gaming headset
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is a lot to like about this headset and very little to not like about this headset. First thing I noticed was how comfortable they were. These are easily the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever worn. By default these also have sidetone turned on (your voice from the mic is played back through the headset), which really helps with the question "can everyone hear me ok?". Initial setup of the headset wasn't an issue, just had to make sure the base station was plugged into a powered USB port. The instructions want you to set the PS4 audio settings in a specific way, but they seemed to work even without the settings set (but you might not get dolby surround). To change the settings for the headset you will have to plug it into a computer and download the Astro Command Center. But it loads the equalizer, sidetone, and other settings directly onto the headset/base station, so you get some of the advanced control usually found just on PC-only headsets available on your PS4 headset. I personally didn't care for the Dolby effects this headset produced, but that may vary with the specific game you're playing. It is nice however having different EQ settings to toggle between, so I can change it up depending on the game. The voice/game audio EQ didn't seem to make a huge difference for me, but I didn't do a lot of voice chatting during my testing. Mic quality was fine, though I found it was a bit sensitive to wind sounds, so heavy breathing, or a fan might get picked up by the mic. Volume control on the headset has a nice click to the wheel, which helps with precise volume adjustment. I kind of wish it was on the left hand side, but maybe that's personal preference. The buttons for selecting the EQ setting or toggling Dolby are exactly the same, and I don't remember if the Dolby or EQ button is on the bottom. So, would've been nice if there was some sort of differentiation between the buttons. But, the base station does show what you have selected (including battery life), so even those issues are very minimal. And the big question: does this work on Xbox and Switch? Answer: Yes! On the Xbox it worked in either PS4 or PC mode, and on Switch it worked in PC mode. Nothing special was needed. I didn't test the Mic on Xbox though since that's not my primary console, and the mic has no use on the Switch.

Best gaming headset out there!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had Astro A40’s for 6-7 years. Only thing i didnt like with the A40’s was being connected to the xbox by a cord and amplifier. As for the A50’s.. AMAZING! Comfortable, wirless, amazing sound and really good battery life. I will let you know you’re going to have to do the research to find out what setting you want as for game play. Took me a little bit to tweak the equalizer for sound but after, oh my god talk about how hearing everytuing in the game especially foot steps. Oh one more thing if you’re going to invest in a pricey headset do yourself a favor and get the replacment plan. So if anything happeneds you’re not out 300.00 - 400.00 bucks. Trust me its better to have the coverage just in case, instead of regretting it later even if the headset last for years past both warranties.

Amazing sound quality.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am really impressed with the Astro Gaming A50 wireless headset. And it's not just the way the box came, but the overall quality and performance, and the relative ease on setting it up. All these components have allowed an almost seamless set up and use of this headset. Pros: -Sturdy feel. Immediately when you see the box you realize that Astro went out of it's way to make sure that each unit comes in a safe packaging. They are nicely secured in there with no fear of being damaged. The unit themselves are nice and sturdy feel to it, but not too heavy when you ear them. Microphone is solidly secured on the Left side of the set. -Set up: Again. too easy. There is a switch on the charging dock for XBOX and PC. The USB cord and optical wire connect directly to your XBOX (or PC) for charging and use. After opening the box, I connected everything and took about an hour for the headset unit to be charged and ready to use. Again, too easy. -Sound quality: the sounds are crisp and clear, thanks to the Dolby Atmos. Playing games like Fortnite and Battlefront were amazing experiences for me. I didn't have to strain my ears to understand what was being said. Friends on the other side of the screen said that my voice was clearer then my old headset so that's a good thing! Wireless: Since everything in this world has become wireless, you come to realize how important it is to no be tangled with cords of all sort. It is so convenient, especially if you are trying to multi-task while games are loading and I can run into the kitchen or the restroom close-by without having to take them off and put them back on. Being about 30 feet away and a wall did not hamper sound quality or connection whatsoever. Cons: -sound button. Yes, there are some cons to this. On the right side of the headset is the sound button. It is on the lowest part of the right ear and for me, I felt it was somewhat awkward trying to either increase/decrease sound levels. Just a minor inconvenience for me, but not a deal breaker. Overall, I am well pleased with this headset. Thank you Astro for making gaming fun!

Love the sound... Miss Some Features
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first headset from Astro and I can honestly say it’s one of the best headsets I’ve owned for gaming. It’s comfortable, stylish (gaudy to some), and extremely convenient. I mean, look at that charging dock for crying out loud! However there are a few features I didn’t like too much after a at least a month of use. For one, the headset cups have this super nice matte black finish, which would be unbelievably fashionable in the event that the buttons weren’t built into the ear cups. But that is just the case, design decided to put the buttons on the right and left side of the interior of right ear cup and unless you carry some Michael Jackson gloves around, the right ear cuff is going to show who you want to hear more, your friends in party chat, or those footsteps that are approaching you from thirty feet away to your five o’clock. Which brings me to my next point. This headset has such a great soundstage that not only can I hear which direction sounds are coming from, but how FAR! I’ll give you a situation. I play Destiny quite a bit and in Destiny there’s quite a bit of traveling through large spaces. In some of these spaces you have a vehicle that you can help cut down on the travel time from point a to point be. With this headset, I find myself smiling as I can hear gunfire coming from a specific part of the map, drive towards that part of the map and the gun shots get louder, and if I drive right past all the action I’ll hear every direction the gunfire is coming from loud and clear. If I continue to drive the sound will no longer surround me and I can hear it grow more and more faint behind me as I leave it in the distance. I LOVE IT! All of the things you want in a wireless headset are here. Comfort, great sound (did I mention Dolby Atmos support is here), and an amazing battery life of roughly 15 hours, aka “Steven, it’s time to go to bed” time. The only feature I do wish it had, and by the way it’s a big one, is Bluetooth pairing. Other than that, I love this headset, and I DO recommend it if you’re in the market for one.

Best Gaming Headset
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This headset is definitely one of the best you will come across. The audio is superb, the mic clarity is good, and it is very comfortable, even during long gaming sessions. The flip to mute mic is very nice. The audio presets are nice and convient, and you can also customize the EQ to your liking. There are a ton of things you can adjust in the Astro Command Center as well such as mic side tone, noise gate, and other things. These come in handy and are nice to have. The charging base is super easy to just drop your headset down into and it's nice to always have the battery at 100% when you start gaming. The wireless range is also very impressive. I can go downstairs to my kitchen and still talk to and hear my friends. I highly recommend this headset if you have the money to spend and want something that is arguably the best headset on the market currently!

Astro A50 Gen 2 to Gen 4 Upgrade worth it!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was using the Astro A50 Gen 2 since 2016 and they worked ok with the XBox, but as I played more and more online with friends during this pandemic they would tell me that my mic audio quality didn't sound great and it was difficult to hear me unless I was really loud or move the mic almost into my mouth. So I was skeptical about spending another $299 on a new generation and I thought I might be able to get by on my Gen 2 by getting audio out on my receiver after upgrading my console to the XBox Series X. But unfortunately with my audio setup I wasn't able to get a TOS link connection from either my Stereo Receiver or my TV. So my old headset clearly wasn't going to work. And since I had some gaming sessions planned for that evening I literally drove out to BestBuy right away to pick one up and they were closed (early) but the manager was kind enough to let me in an purchase the headset right away. Got home and I read that Astro A50s Gen 4 would work natively with the XBox Series X|S but would require a firmware update. I unboxed and quickly setup the A50s on my Mac and the software did a great job of detecting the base station and headset and did the upgrade, it was very painless. And I was able to test out the audio settings on my computer and play with the customized EQ settings for side-tone (hearing yourself when you speak so you don't scream in a gaming session) and other levels so I could get the best performance out of it in my Warzone matches. Once this was all setup, I simply needed to plug the base station into the USB on the Xbox Series X and it just detected it as an audio output source and just worked. No need to fuss with anything. Best of all, NO mic cable from the headset to the controller is needed so I am fully wireless! Once I got on with my buddies they were blown away with the vast improvement on my audio chat quality, they said I sounded like I had more bass in my voice, and I already have a deep but not Barry White deep, voice. My friend that I know says that my voice sounds deeper than in person like there's a nice radio talk show mix with my voice. The headset is loud and I play at anywhere from 1/3 to 60% volume, I feel like anything louder and I'll lose my hearing. The headset comes with a redemption code so you can unlock Dolby Atmos on your console, but unfortunately, the unlock is only for 2 years. So I guess I am deferring my Atmos unlock until 2022, probably wait for a sale on the Microsoft Xbox Store as they come every few months. But it's nice to compare using Dolby and Dolby Atmos. You do have to change the output settings in your General Audio settings on the Xbox to get this right and make sure you select Atmos and not Windows Audio X or whatever, otherwise sounds in the game sound sort of like you're under water. Also you have to turn off the Dolby on the base station as you don't need the base station to process the incoming sound and convert it to Dolby if you already have Dolby Atmos coming from the console. As far as comfort goes, these are very comfortable and I could and have gamed for over 12hr sessions in them. I have an average sized head (baseball cap size 7.5) The battery life is excellent (at least for now) I never once had a low battery warning off my longest session, and even charging up only takes a few minutes to get probably an extra hour of play. So those bathroom breaks and snack breaks will be enough charge time to keep these going for marathon sessions. Putting the headset down also places them into "sleep" mode to conserve power but once you pick them up you'll hear a tone to tell you that they are active. Charging is pretty easy as the base has a magnet built in, however, you have to make sure you get both sides to sit right and you see the indicator light turn from white to orange to indicate charging. All and all these are the cream of the crop when it comes to gaming headsets and you can use this on Xbox and PC gaming and probably get great audio for "work from home" scenarios on video conference calls. They do cost a lot but if you enjoy great quality audio and need/want to be wireless I highly recommend these if they are within your budget.

I tried it on and it fits so comfortably, enhanced sound (very clear not muffled) and can hear more compared to other headsets that might miss out on that extra sound. Very sturdy and he loves that it’s wireless so nothing gets in the way. And hours on end without having to recharge. Never seen his headset die mid game, it lasts a long time! he has never had an issue. 100/10 recommend. so worth it!

Great headphones, but I'm returning them...
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I was pretty pumped about these. They would be my first set of Astros I owned. I had used a buddies pair of A40's a fair amount and (despite the cost) was looking forward to these being wireless and worth it. Well, the sound is great, they're really comfortable albeit on the heavier side which is what I expected and doesn't bother me as much as some. In the end, however, it just didn't justify $300 for me. That may be different to someone else and that's fine. I found the mix amp to be pretty annoying and maybe it's something I'm doing but it seems to go all the way to one end or the other when trying to adjust. I also mainly bought these for the clean, minimal look of the charging dock. It's smaller than expected and not as easy as just setting them and they magnetize. If you're not careful they won't charge. Then when grabbing them to put on the base station will most of the time come up with it. Little things but, again, they add up to be annoying when you're spending this amount. I'm opting to cut the price in half and go with the Turtle Beach Stealth 700's. The 700's also offer bluetooth which I'm a big fan of and was disappointed these didn't have it for the price point. Look, if you're okay spending this kind of money, give the A50's a shot. They sound great and have that classic Astro comfort. I just didn't get feel comfortable on what I spent after trying them for a bit.

Most comfortable headset I have ever used.

I picked up this one and I have no regrets. Pros: -Extremely comfortable -quite adjustable; each ear cup can be raised and lowered, and they can twist -There are mod kits for customization -The earcups are magnetically sealed so they come off easily(the magnets are strong, and stay on unless you want to take it off) -Dolby surround sound 7.1!!! -Has a software mix-amp for equalizer settings. -Folding microphone(could be a con for some) -Pretty great highs and lows -Charging base station -Great battery life, has not died on me once -Very solid wireless connection, only disconnects if you go out of range For the cons there honestly aren't many, and many of them are pretty nit-picky Cons: -Base station can be a bit finicky to get the headset properly mounted on it -Microphone isn't the absolute best, but is still pretty decent -Range isn't the absolute best but it still is more than needed -No 3.5mm headphone jack(As far as I could tell) This is a very high quality headset, and the best headset I have personally used, the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star is because of the base station, still not a huge deal and still gets the job done, but the headset itself is phenomenal, and so much customization, I could not recommend any other high end headset more.

A50s = Superb!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had 2 pairs of Astro a50 gen 2’s but the battery life starting going bad on then both so picked these bad boys up. Love having fully wireless! I finally don’t have to plug a chat cable in to my controller anymore! Still same amazing a50 sound, comfort, & quality you come to expect from the Astro a50 brand. Only thing I don’t like is the headband isn’t as comfortable as the digs into my head a little but it’s not a big deal. Oh & also the ear Cushions & overall size of headphones are a tiny bit smaller, but im a big guy with big ears & they still fit over my ears well. Also, wish they had Bluetooth functionality so I could use them on my Xbox and also on discord on my phone at the same time like some of the other competing headphones at this price. But the only reason I want that is because I play with a lot of friends that play on PC who chat using discord so if that doesn’t matter to you then again it’s not a big deal. Overall they are SUPERB! I Have them hooked up through USB only to my Xbox series X and they sound great with Dolby Atmos! Have also tried them with optical cable to TV and sound superb that way as well! Would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for headphones. Enjoy :)
