I have always been a wireless headset kind of person and have been using a wireless headset of a competitor for some time now. The old headset seemed to check all the boxes, but I was excited to get to try the wireless Astro A50s as I was very familiar with the Astro name and had numerous friends with their older sets. Right out of the box, the headset required me to update the firmware. No big deal. Plug the USB into my computer, download the Astro Command Center app, and click update. Easy, right? Well...not so fast. Every time I attempted to update the firmware, at the 25% mark I kept getting an error. Frustrating, but I have a gaming laptop also, so I moved it over to that and tried to update the headset using the second computer. Same issue. 25% then fail. Just in case this was some fluke, I tried a third computer. Same story. This had me pretty frustrated with these Astro A50s. Luckily, I was able to get in touch with tech support for this headset and after some hard resets, uninstalling the Astro Command Center app and reinstalling, and for some reason letting the head set go completely dead and recharging it, the headset finally took to the firmware update and I was up and running. The very first thing that you will notice is that this headset is EXTREMELY comfortable. I could wear these all day. The magnetic earcups are replaceable, but I don't know why you would want to. These things are amazing. Also, its a good thing that the comfort level would allow you to wear this headset all day, because that is about as long as the battery lasts...all day! I have not ever had these run low on battery and it is really easy to keep these charged thanks to the handy docking station. When it comes to sound, this headset really shines, with some assistance. Initially I was getting echos in the headset, but after altering some of the sound settings in the Command Center app, the echo was gone and I was off to gaming like a pro! Sounds are very specific to the directions they are suppose to be coming from thanks to the advanced Dolby Surround settings and they will supply all of the volume and bass you could ever want if that is your thing. When it comes to mic quality, I didnt record any sound clips as I have in the past with reviews, but I received zero complaints from friends in my Discord channel and it seemed that the range of this headset out did my previous headset. This is especially helpful if you are stepping away from your computer between games and still want to talk to your friends. Overall, these Astro A50s are a thing of beauty. I was a little worried when I had to jump through hoops and do the hokey pokey to make them work, but after making it through the troubleshooting, I can't see myself ever needing another headset. PC or Xbox, these are great!

For $300 this headset should not be having these issues. The sounds keep cutting in and out. I checked online and people said the 5ghz wifi router can cause interference. I have followed and done all the troubleshooting but still having issues. I have also updated the current firmware as well but no luck. You are better off getting a lower priced corded headset to avoid these issues.

Fix your quality Astro. These lasted 2 hours of game play and that was it. No sound at all. Wont work on Xbox or PC. The top piece consistently pops off when I wear them as well. I’m returning and will not buy another pair from this company.

I have been using the Astro A50 for a few days trying to decide between 3 or 4 stars. I decided on 4 because of the following: PROS - 15 hour battery life - clear, smooth audio playback - equalizer settings so you can prioritize chat vs game sounds - incredible build quality and comfortable for extended game play - comes with all you need in the box, including an optical cable - flip mic to mute CONS - base station size makes this better for PC vs console gaming - mixed ability to charge on base station vs direct USB There's no disputing the sound quality of the Astro A50 is amazing and they rank high on comfort and build. These are without a doubt the nicest wireless gaming headphones I have ever used. I have never appreciated just how much effort goes into mixing game audio and playing CoD and Destiny was like playing games for the first time (and more terrifying!) What I love is the Astro A50s are the ONLY headphones that let you take straight optical out of your PS4 and feed it into the transmitter for the wireless headphones (via the base station) What I am still working out is why the Astro A50s have to have the base station and don't also offer a slimline transmitter in the box. I only wonder because on my desk next to my PC, I have heaps of room and can accommodate the base station. But my PS4 sits in a cabinet under the TV, so you end up with a relatively large base station (about half the size of a standard mouse pad) that you need to unplug and plug in somewhere else if you want to use the base station as a charger. Otherwise, you can charge with any standard micro USB (wish it was USB C). This is where I start evaluating the Astro A50s vs something like the Logitech G935s. The latter being a better headset if you want to switch between PS4 and PC use. Don't get me wrong. The Astro A50s are incredible and I love the sound, fit, features. They will definitely be my everyday PC gaming headphones. If they came with a smaller dongle/transmitter then I would use them equally between my PC or PS4.

I'd purchased this for my daughter to game chat while playing with her siblings and friends on Fortnite Xbox system. Unfortunately, she can not hear the chats while playing Fortnite. Seems to be an issue googling online. I am returning this and exchanging this for the SteelSeries Arctis 9X, which I have purchased two for my other kids and they have no issues.

I’ve had nothing but problems wish I could return it but they only do 14day return, headset has to be reset constantly unplug power and plug back in and it still freezes up on me, a lot of the time the mic doesn’t work to, ive been in contact with Astro about this, but they will just send me a replacement headset after cutting the wrasses wires, I would rather get my money back and buy a different headset

Since I got the headset the base station would on occasion need to be power cycled for it to work. Over the last week it's happened near every day and now it refuses to power up at all with multiple ports and cables tested. This is too much money for any product to last half a year.
