Potentially great headset, ruined by design flaw

I used a gen 1 Astro A50 for close to 10 years, and it was a dependable headset with great sound quality. When it was time to finally update to a newer headset, there was no question it was going to be another A50. It's super easy to set up and use. The battery life seems to be plenty long and I never ran into a situation where I had to take a break and charge, even through full-day music sessions while working from home (though I only used for a few days before returning them - who knows if that holds up over time). The headset was very comfortable when I first put it on, which lasted for about an hour, until the pad on the headstrap suddenly snapped out of place in the middle of a game. It doesn't look like anything is broken - this piece is meant to come out by design, so you can buy Astro's $40 mod kit! However, this piece is impossible to hold back in place. You think you have the clips in where they need to be, go to put it on your head, just for it to fall out again. I finally gave up with it and used the headset without the pad, but within 10 minutes it becomes uncomfortable. I check online to see if I'm just missing something but there's so many people with the same problem that I feel stupid for not being aware of it before I purchased it. The only "fix" available is to glue/tape it, buy a mod kit, or fight with Astro support to get a replacement (hopefully it doesn't have the same problem). I would expect design issues like this from a cheap headset, but for $300? You're better off with a Corsair or Steelseries. Really disappointed to see that Astros aren't what they used to be.

Great quality but too many issues

This headset has so much potential because it produces great quality sound, has a good microphone, good range, and is comfortable. It has too many issues though and seems like Astro does not have a quality control department for their firmware or design. I purchased a headset and it kept freezing up which frequently required a hard reset (plug it into the USB cable directly then hold dolby and “game”). I exchanged it with another new headset and the second one would not even turn on after a few hours of attempts. So I had to exchange it again. The third set has not required as many hard resets but did upon unboxing and after 1 night of use. You have to press the top headband into place hard or it keeps popping out as well. I would not expect these issues with a cheap headset, let alone a $300 one.

Amazing when they work 100%. Have a common problem of having connection issues and also having a part of the headband popping out of place. BUT…when you have a pair that works perfectly. It’s a game changer.

The best gaming headphones you can buy. I’ve owned several different headphones and nothing compares. Pairs with Xbox series x seamlessly. Negative is the cost.

First off I love this headset and I love AG. They are durable and have great sound. I decided to upgrade and the dock is sometimes a little hard to get the headset situated to charge and the quality is just as great as other AG headsets I've had. I can't say I have ever regretted spending the extra money just not sure what I got for it.

I recently upgraded my headphone set from the turtle beach 700 You can definitely notice a difference either with the high quality of sound at clarity or the light weight frame when it surroundsYour head The only downfall to these headphones is a doesn't have a great Equalizer setting on the actual headset where you can adjust for optimal listening and herring in a party it's one or the other other than that phenomenal headset and I would buy them again Sigh no I did buy the Gen. 4 edition so it is the newest addition out I have heard other people say that they've had fallen MC Weathers shutting off or just not linking up I haven't had any issues with mine for the 1st 3 weeks of my new headset

I had previously had Astro A40’s and loved using them for about 3 years. This year, I wanted a wireless pair so I bought a pair of SteelSeries Arctis 7x’s. After my 7x’s were accidentally broken, I decided to buy a pair of these. After about 120 hours with the 7x’s, I can say the Astro A50’s blow the 7x’s out of the water. Great audio, great battery life, and the charging stand/receiver is great. The only gripe I have is that they are sensitive to WIFI signals. There is a faint clicking noise that comes through when it’s next to my PC and it’s on. I wish I would have never wasted money on the 7x’s and just went with these straight away.

Been using multiple brands of headsets for over a decade and this one tops them all. It’s my 2nd A50 since i traded my first one in before the two-year deadline. This newer edition (redesigned with improved battery life and range) is just plain excellent with amazing sound clarity and bass. Will be trading this one in again soon with my current protection plan. Disappointed that Best Buy now charges $125 for a two-year protection plan when it used to be $60 for two years. Ridiculous.

These headphones are awesome! It does suck you need to buy an additional piece for you to use the full potential of the headphones on PS5. Otherwise, very impressed with the quality and durability.

I gave this headset a 3 star rating for one reason - the mic. Now, you might be wondering how I give it such a low score for only the mic, but as a gamer that plays everyday with friends, the mic is important. I previously had the generation A50 before this and hated the mic. So I though the Gen 4s would have fixed that. They didn't. Mic is robotic sounding, even after messing with all the settings in the software and my ps4. Nowhere near the quality of many of the less expensive headsets I have owned. On the flip side, the sound is great! As you would expect. Comfort is top notch and I love the bass. But in the end, when my friends tell me the mic quality is bad, that is a deal breaker. Especially for $300. If you don't need the mic, these sound great. But there are options that have comparable sound with a better mic for cheaper.

Tad expensive especially for ps5 owners. I would really expect them to do a bundle with the adapter that’s needs but nevertheless it works well. Sounds great. Comfortable. Wish it had 2 knobs instead of 1 with buttons on the side. One of the last *new* headsets around that can still split voice and game volume since consoles are losing the optical port. Great buy overall

Meets every expectation exceptionaly especially intentionally conventionally. Great brand, great sound, great comfort, great user interface. Comes with free software. Adjust how well you hear your own voice as well as unlimited EQ adjustments. Loudest wireless headset I've ever used of 167 headsets. Wireless connectivity is very strong. Adjustable microphone monitoring. Optical audio cable included. Dolby Atmos/Windows Sonic ready. Glasses friendly. Flip up microphone to mute. Independent volume control. Easy 'set and forget' charging dock. This will be your last gaming headset for a long time.

I've had them for a pretty long time. After having them for quite some time I would say they're really annoying on top. What I mean specifically is that the headset doesn't sit properly on my head. It's also pretty bulky but as far as sound quality I don't think there's anything better on the market. I've tried all of the newest headsets and I still give these the greatest sound quality. Also it has a phenomenal long lasting battery and a huge distance as far the wireless capabilities.

These headphones exceeded my expectations by a long shot. I love showing these off to people because the sound quality is of the charts. I have tested and returned headphones before, but these were keepers for sure. They pair automatically with the signed in profile on the console so there isn’t any hassle switching between settings ever. They click into the charging port easily and are by far the quickest charging headphones I’ve owned. I play a lot of first person shooters and hearing the exact position of each player in these is amazing. Love love LOVE the sound. I would definitely gift these as well.

Originally, purchased as a gift. I liked the quality so much, I purchased it again for myself. Headset audio is rich and clear, wouldn't quite say noise-cancelling, but pretty close. Mic quality is also great. Plus, headset sits comfortably. ONLY downside is it does occasionally catch and pull a hair in the swivels on either side.

I hear you! It sounds like the Astro A50 Gen 4 turned out to be a fantastic surprise. Those features you mentioned are definitely high points - rich, clear audio, a comfortable fit, and a great microphone are all essential for a good gaming experience. That's awesome that you liked it so much you got yourself a pair too! The occasional hair snagged in the swivel is a bit of a bummer, but it sounds like a minor inconvenience compared to the overall positives.

[Employee of bestbuy] Bought these looking to upgrade from my A40s mostly wanted to go wireless. The audio is great I could hear where things were and almost pinpoint, however the headband cushion snapped out of place the second I put it on, seems a lot of other customers had the same issue. The microphone quality is also bad, I expected better however considering how good the quality is on the A40s. Despite how great the sound quality is I personally think the other two issues outweigh that. I will be happy sticking with my A40s thank you.

These are extremely comfortable and the sound is perfect. the cloth ear cups are soft and don't make ur head sweat, also they are easy to clean as the cups just pop off and on. my only complaint is that when playing on xbox, everytime I turn on my xbox I have to unplug and replug them in as to reset them. at this cost that sort of thing should be worked out. otherwise, perfect. no issues on pc.
