I’ve owned prior generations of the Astro A50 and they were always good. This current generation ( the 4th) is no different. I’m not going to go too much into every nitty, gritty feature but I can tell you it checks the boxes on nearly everything you would want in a gamer headset. The sound is crisp, clear and powerful. The construction is top notch, although there are a few competitors that are a bit more streamlined. The fit is very good and comfortable and should be fine for people’s heads of all sizes. The mic design is perfect and has the nice feature of flipping up to mute, no need to fumble for buttons. It comes with a charging dock so no need to plug it into a USB port to charge. The Astro Command Center software let’s you customize to your heart’s desire . For me, I really think sometimes the myriad of customization is a bit overkill but some may love it. So what is not to like? Well, the $300 cost. At one time, Astro (owned by Logitech) was the only player to offer a premium headset of this level. But then came Turtle Beach, Razor, Sennheiser, Arctis, Hyper X and more. Now the field is blurred with a lot of great sounding headsets. Feature for feature you will be close to price with some of the competitors. However, there are some that are less than half the cost that sound just as good to me; or pretty close. I own a Turtle Beach headset and I am hard pressed to find any differences in the sound and it is a third of the price. But then I see little differences in fit, finish and quality on the less expensive headsets. I still like the Astro 50 and would still buy them over nearly any competitor, it is just a question of is it worth it to you? If you want the best of the best, the Astro is definitely the one for you.

These are a nice pair of gaming headphones. The comfort is good and along with excellent build quality. The wireless charging dock makes it easy to charge them while not in use. It took me a minute to get them up and running. It included a colored pamphlet, which appears to be somewhat of a quick start guide. I was a bit puzzled on how to set them up due to lack of important info. I then cam across a large folded manual, but it just included a description of the various parts of the headphones and charging stand. I then came across some instructions on the back of that which described how to connect them to your PC or Xbox. These instructions seemed to be the most important, yet they were in really small print. The sound quality of these headphones are awesome, and the battery is great as well.

After awhile you assume you've seen or heard it all when it comes to gaming headsets - there are so many choices out there and what Best Buy offers are all decent. But, I have to say I'm shocked at how absolutely amazing these sound, how they have been engineered, and no details have been missed. These are truly groundbreaking. The sound is amazing. That is the first thing you should know. I feel like I'm in the middle of the games, music, etc. The highs, the lows, the mids, everything. Seriously, everything. The headphones come with an optical audio cable to allow you to hook up and go with optical audio. Wow...included and it is worth hooking up to get the most sound possible. Sound is amazing, they are worth it just based on sound. As for engineering, this is not some junk that will break. Not a chance. The adjustment rails are very sturdy and well thought out, allowing the headset ear pieces to swivel freely. The ear cushions are soft and fabric, easy to wear for hours. No pressure against glasses, if you happen to wear them (I do), and the upper band has a very soft cushion to allow them to rest on your head with no pressure or feeling they are slipping/moving around. The controls were well thought out, a flip to mute microphone boom, a dolby on/off switch, an equalizer switch to move between presets, and on/off button. There is a push panel on the side of one ear that moves from voice to game. Not too many buttons to remember what each is for - had that memorized in about 10 seconds and they are easy to access and adjust. Volume wheel is sweet, easy, and in a perfect spot. The base is what you plug into your source - I started using with a MAC. I put the switch on the base over to PC and used the included mini-USB to standard USB on the computer, good to go. Flip over to XBOX and use optical audio. Easy. Want to plug in an aux device? It has that too. And it has a USB charge and play slot as well. To charge these, simply drop into the base, and charging starts immediately and without plugging anything into the headset, or having to take batteries out, etc. Just drop them in the base, the power light turns amber to show it is charging, and the base shows the charge level as well, also shows if PC/XBOX mode is selected, and the number 1 assuming it is the first learned headset or user 1. I haven't gotten that far yet but since it is only me using them it isn't an issue. One of the more impressive strengths that isn't normally the case with headsets, is this software. The control center software is full featured - and I mean full featured. You can tune the equalizer for your 3 presets - and you can not only tune, you can advance tune them. And you can save your profiles so if you muck it up, you can go back and just pull back up your saved profile and it is all fixed. Firmware updates are handled automatically through your PC/MAC. And using the software with MAC didn't leave me yearning for features only available on Windows. Software like this is very usual for things like headsets, so based on this, I'd have to say you'd be crazy to miss giving these a try if you want a high end headset at a mid range price. Even the packaging is top notch, the explanation of everything, and way the headset is packaged provides superior protection from damage. I can bet you if you try these, you'll be keeping these. They are worth it, they are the most feature rich set and well designed set I've seen. Coupled with the software and you have a complete package unsurpassed by anything else. Best Buy has a good return policy in the event you don't like them, but I'm sure you'll love these as I do.

This product is an amazing piece of technology. Its ergonomic design fits perfectly on my head and does not create any pain from my eye glasses like most other headsets do.. Once you switch from a wireless to a wired, you will never switch back again. I always thought wireless would be an issue since I play video games and the delay would cause problems, but that is not the case with this headset. I do not even notice the delay at all and it makes gaming so convenient without a cord. The wireless range is efficient too!!! I was talking with my friends on discord from my kitchen, WHILE MY SETUP IS UPSTAIRS!!! The sound is definitely top tier compared to other headsets in the similar price range. You can really hear the full 7.1 surround sound with this headset The only thing I has a problem with was getting into the habit of putting the headset on the charger after use. Once I got that part down, this headset has been perfect

I initially was wondering why this headset had a bigger base. I mean, the sound quality is great and the chat is crystal clear. Those are the reasons why we get these gaming headsets. It is a little bit of a pain to set up, both hardware and PS4 settings especially that I compared it to some of its competitors, both wired and bluetooth devices. Others simply needed to be plugged in (wired) and others had a dongle that's plug and play (bluetooth) and they all did the same thing. HOWEVER, more than this headset is VERY COMFORTABLE, it stays in place and I can put them on for HOURS, I wanted to understand why I have a bulky base and a little more complicated set up than the rest. So I actually watched real movies and quality documentaries. THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE. The separation of the voice to the supporting sounds and effects actually put this headset above others. Now I understood why it needed an optical out and a USB connection with that the not-so-big base (vs. a dongle). The quality IS different. I did play Fortnite and NBA 2K19 on both PC and PS4 and did not hear the difference in already good quality. But when I played 4K HDR Dolby and 5.1 on Netflix through PS4, I knew why this product is such. IT IS GREAT. Now I do have Red Dead Redemption 2 but have not continued my story mode in a while which I am sure this Astro will make the difference. It makes me want to play my story mode games again. Oh and you know what's the kicker? You can use it on your TV, DIRECTLY as a headset receiver since TVs do not enable bluetooth headsets. Gives me the flexibility to experience an epic movie without waking others up!! Sometimes, big things come in bigger packages. This product showed me what big really is. I am HAPPY!

These headphones easily pair with a Xbox, as well as a PC. They are fairly large over the ear headphones, but they are light and comfortable. The earpieces don't seem like they would be super durable over a long period, however they are exchangeable. Two years of Dolby Atmos are included via a download code. Virtual surround sound works great in first person shooter games. The mic can be folded up to mute and keep out of the way when not being used and the docking station securely holds the headphones when charging. I've used them in 2-3 hour sessions of playing intense shooter games and I almost forget they are on. They may break easily if kids are using them, but should work fine for adults that are careful how they take them off and on and store. No travel case is included buy the charging dock works fine to keep them protected after use.

This is my first Astro headset. At $300 for this headset the price alone sets this headset on its own level. But after setting up and using this headset, it's a well deserved spot above the rest. I've had numerous different brands of both wired and wireless headsets all used with PS4. ( I don't do PC gaming) And in all honesty this one is by far th best I've used hands down. A lot of "reviews" just spit out the specifications that are already listed. So I'm going to speak on personal experience. At first glance you can see the quality in both styling and build as well as materials used for this set. It's not cheap by looks or feel. High on the comfort level which is important to me because some sessions will last a few hours. The padding on the ear surrounds feels amazing. It's not too tight on the head again adding to comfort and long time playability I play a lot of first person shooter so the surround sound of foot steps being able to hear in each ear exactly where my enemy is walking around me is important for the upper hand. The sound from these are stupendous. Once you get everything dialed in on the settings. These simply can't be beat in my opinion. My team mates said the sound quality coming from my mic was crystal clear, no background noise, crackling or buzzing like you hear in some. Overall I'd highly recommend this for someone on a pro level, streamers or someone serious about their gaming. At this price there's no way I'd get this for a child though, My little brothers go through headsets like tennis shoes haha.

As good as this headset is, the cons outweigh the pros here. Theyre comfortable, last a long time, sound great and the mic is awesome. All of this would be perfect if it didn't have constant issues with disconnecting from the base while on. Any time i try to raise or lower the volume all of the icons on the base disappear except for the PS logo and the volume stays in one spot. Then I have to turn them off then on. Ever so rarely does it end there, most the time I have to go disconnect the base completely, reconnect it, set the headset on it to connect, then try and use them and that works half the time. For the amount of money these cost, having this issue is just unacceptable and I will no longer be purchasing Astro products. This review is being done after having the headset for 3 years.

I have used many headsets and had various feelings regarding them. When it comes to finding a good headset it comes down to build quality, sound/mic quality, and most importantly comfortability. It is often times hard to find a headset that has all of these. Especially in terms of wireless headsets. Many wireless headsets are heavy and after so long they become uncomfortable. All of that being said Astro makes some of the best quality gaming products and this headset is no exception. The build quality is very high end and it does not lack in comfortability. This headset can be worn for many hours and still be comfortable. The set up was extremely easy. All that was required was plugging in the base station and turning on the headset. The Base station acts as a charge for the headset as well. When it comes to build quality this headset offers top quality metals and plastics. I also like that all the buttons are easily located and easy to use right on the headset. This headset also has great sound quality and mixes in chat audio which sounds crisp and clear. I am a huge fan of this headset and when matched with an Astro Pro controller it makes gaming so much better. Another nice addition to this headset is that it allows for use on both PC and PS4. I also believe you can buy another base station if you wanted to use it for Xbox one. I highly recommend this headset.

The Astro A50 headset offers an immersive audio experience with its impressive sound quality and Dolby Atmos support. The wireless functionality provides freedom of movement, and the comfortable design allows for extended gaming sessions. The base station for charging and customization is a convenient addition. However, the high price may deter some users, and occasional connectivity issues have been reported. Overall, the Astro A50 is a premium choice for gamers seeking top-notch audio and comfort, despite a few minor drawbacks.
