Absolutely outstanding; a new standard in headsets
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After awhile you assume you've seen or heard it all when it comes to gaming headsets - there are so many choices out there and what Best Buy offers are all decent. But, I have to say I'm shocked at how absolutely amazing these sound, how they have been engineered, and no details have been missed. These are truly groundbreaking. The sound is amazing. That is the first thing you should know. I feel like I'm in the middle of the games, music, etc. The highs, the lows, the mids, everything. Seriously, everything. The headphones come with an optical audio cable to allow you to hook up and go with optical audio. Wow...included and it is worth hooking up to get the most sound possible. Sound is amazing, they are worth it just based on sound. As for engineering, this is not some junk that will break. Not a chance. The adjustment rails are very sturdy and well thought out, allowing the headset ear pieces to swivel freely. The ear cushions are soft and fabric, easy to wear for hours. No pressure against glasses, if you happen to wear them (I do), and the upper band has a very soft cushion to allow them to rest on your head with no pressure or feeling they are slipping/moving around. The controls were well thought out, a flip to mute microphone boom, a dolby on/off switch, an equalizer switch to move between presets, and on/off button. There is a push panel on the side of one ear that moves from voice to game. Not too many buttons to remember what each is for - had that memorized in about 10 seconds and they are easy to access and adjust. Volume wheel is sweet, easy, and in a perfect spot. The base is what you plug into your source - I started using with a MAC. I put the switch on the base over to PC and used the included mini-USB to standard USB on the computer, good to go. Flip over to XBOX and use optical audio. Easy. Want to plug in an aux device? It has that too. And it has a USB charge and play slot as well. To charge these, simply drop into the base, and charging starts immediately and without plugging anything into the headset, or having to take batteries out, etc. Just drop them in the base, the power light turns amber to show it is charging, and the base shows the charge level as well, also shows if PC/XBOX mode is selected, and the number 1 assuming it is the first learned headset or user 1. I haven't gotten that far yet but since it is only me using them it isn't an issue. One of the more impressive strengths that isn't normally the case with headsets, is this software. The control center software is full featured - and I mean full featured. You can tune the equalizer for your 3 presets - and you can not only tune, you can advance tune them. And you can save your profiles so if you muck it up, you can go back and just pull back up your saved profile and it is all fixed. Firmware updates are handled automatically through your PC/MAC. And using the software with MAC didn't leave me yearning for features only available on Windows. Software like this is very usual for things like headsets, so based on this, I'd have to say you'd be crazy to miss giving these a try if you want a high end headset at a mid range price. Even the packaging is top notch, the explanation of everything, and way the headset is packaged provides superior protection from damage. I can bet you if you try these, you'll be keeping these. They are worth it, they are the most feature rich set and well designed set I've seen. Coupled with the software and you have a complete package unsurpassed by anything else. Best Buy has a good return policy in the event you don't like them, but I'm sure you'll love these as I do.

You Will Not Regret Going Wireless
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product is an amazing piece of technology. Its ergonomic design fits perfectly on my head and does not create any pain from my eye glasses like most other headsets do.. Once you switch from a wireless to a wired, you will never switch back again. I always thought wireless would be an issue since I play video games and the delay would cause problems, but that is not the case with this headset. I do not even notice the delay at all and it makes gaming so convenient without a cord. The wireless range is efficient too!!! I was talking with my friends on discord from my kitchen, WHILE MY SETUP IS UPSTAIRS!!! The sound is definitely top tier compared to other headsets in the similar price range. You can really hear the full 7.1 surround sound with this headset The only thing I has a problem with was getting into the habit of putting the headset on the charger after use. Once I got that part down, this headset has been perfect

More than meets the eye
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially was wondering why this headset had a bigger base. I mean, the sound quality is great and the chat is crystal clear. Those are the reasons why we get these gaming headsets. It is a little bit of a pain to set up, both hardware and PS4 settings especially that I compared it to some of its competitors, both wired and bluetooth devices. Others simply needed to be plugged in (wired) and others had a dongle that's plug and play (bluetooth) and they all did the same thing. HOWEVER, more than this headset is VERY COMFORTABLE, it stays in place and I can put them on for HOURS, I wanted to understand why I have a bulky base and a little more complicated set up than the rest. So I actually watched real movies and quality documentaries. THAT MADE A DIFFERENCE. The separation of the voice to the supporting sounds and effects actually put this headset above others. Now I understood why it needed an optical out and a USB connection with that the not-so-big base (vs. a dongle). The quality IS different. I did play Fortnite and NBA 2K19 on both PC and PS4 and did not hear the difference in already good quality. But when I played 4K HDR Dolby and 5.1 on Netflix through PS4, I knew why this product is such. IT IS GREAT. Now I do have Red Dead Redemption 2 but have not continued my story mode in a while which I am sure this Astro will make the difference. It makes me want to play my story mode games again. Oh and you know what's the kicker? You can use it on your TV, DIRECTLY as a headset receiver since TVs do not enable bluetooth headsets. Gives me the flexibility to experience an epic movie without waking others up!! Sometimes, big things come in bigger packages. This product showed me what big really is. I am HAPPY!

Great sound and easy setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These headphones easily pair with a Xbox, as well as a PC. They are fairly large over the ear headphones, but they are light and comfortable. The earpieces don't seem like they would be super durable over a long period, however they are exchangeable. Two years of Dolby Atmos are included via a download code. Virtual surround sound works great in first person shooter games. The mic can be folded up to mute and keep out of the way when not being used and the docking station securely holds the headphones when charging. I've used them in 2-3 hour sessions of playing intense shooter games and I almost forget they are on. They may break easily if kids are using them, but should work fine for adults that are careful how they take them off and on and store. No travel case is included buy the charging dock works fine to keep them protected after use.

For those who are serious about they're gaming!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first Astro headset. At $300 for this headset the price alone sets this headset on its own level. But after setting up and using this headset, it's a well deserved spot above the rest. I've had numerous different brands of both wired and wireless headsets all used with PS4. ( I don't do PC gaming) And in all honesty this one is by far th best I've used hands down. A lot of "reviews" just spit out the specifications that are already listed. So I'm going to speak on personal experience. At first glance you can see the quality in both styling and build as well as materials used for this set. It's not cheap by looks or feel. High on the comfort level which is important to me because some sessions will last a few hours. The padding on the ear surrounds feels amazing. It's not too tight on the head again adding to comfort and long time playability I play a lot of first person shooter so the surround sound of foot steps being able to hear in each ear exactly where my enemy is walking around me is important for the upper hand. The sound from these are stupendous. Once you get everything dialed in on the settings. These simply can't be beat in my opinion. My team mates said the sound quality coming from my mic was crystal clear, no background noise, crackling or buzzing like you hear in some. Overall I'd highly recommend this for someone on a pro level, streamers or someone serious about their gaming. At this price there's no way I'd get this for a child though, My little brothers go through headsets like tennis shoes haha.

MUST have Gaming Headset!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used many headsets and had various feelings regarding them. When it comes to finding a good headset it comes down to build quality, sound/mic quality, and most importantly comfortability. It is often times hard to find a headset that has all of these. Especially in terms of wireless headsets. Many wireless headsets are heavy and after so long they become uncomfortable. All of that being said Astro makes some of the best quality gaming products and this headset is no exception. The build quality is very high end and it does not lack in comfortability. This headset can be worn for many hours and still be comfortable. The set up was extremely easy. All that was required was plugging in the base station and turning on the headset. The Base station acts as a charge for the headset as well. When it comes to build quality this headset offers top quality metals and plastics. I also like that all the buttons are easily located and easy to use right on the headset. This headset also has great sound quality and mixes in chat audio which sounds crisp and clear. I am a huge fan of this headset and when matched with an Astro Pro controller it makes gaming so much better. Another nice addition to this headset is that it allows for use on both PC and PS4. I also believe you can buy another base station if you wanted to use it for Xbox one. I highly recommend this headset.

Expensive for something that doesn't work properly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As good as this headset is, the cons outweigh the pros here. Theyre comfortable, last a long time, sound great and the mic is awesome. All of this would be perfect if it didn't have constant issues with disconnecting from the base while on. Any time i try to raise or lower the volume all of the icons on the base disappear except for the PS logo and the volume stays in one spot. Then I have to turn them off then on. Ever so rarely does it end there, most the time I have to go disconnect the base completely, reconnect it, set the headset on it to connect, then try and use them and that works half the time. For the amount of money these cost, having this issue is just unacceptable and I will no longer be purchasing Astro products. This review is being done after having the headset for 3 years.

Best headset out there
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Astro A50 headset offers an immersive audio experience with its impressive sound quality and Dolby Atmos support. The wireless functionality provides freedom of movement, and the comfortable design allows for extended gaming sessions. The base station for charging and customization is a convenient addition. However, the high price may deter some users, and occasional connectivity issues have been reported. Overall, the Astro A50 is a premium choice for gamers seeking top-notch audio and comfort, despite a few minor drawbacks.

Comfortable. Dolby can add slight metallic effect.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro: -Lightweight and comfortable -Freely adjustable height -Customizable sound profiles with Astro Command Center Con: -Dolby can have echoing metallic ting -Portability The A50 is one of the lightest headsets I have. The flexible band, soft earpiece, low clamp force, and the freely adjustable height (no clicks at certain intervals) make it feels lighter and a comfortable wear. The earpieces are magnetic making it easier to clean and swap out. All the controls (volume, profiles, dolby, and game/chat volume) are easily accessible on the right with big clearly distinct buttons. The mic is a bit soft but otherwise fine. The base station has magnetic charging and stays put reasonably well. It has idicators for the various modes as well as audio out for streamers. You need to switch it to PC mode when connecting to Astro Command Center. The sound is where I have a bit of an issue. With Dolby turned off, it sounds fine, but lacks the punch of surround. With it on, in most cases it still sounds good but it will have a bit of a hollow metallic tinge to it. Like walking in a big empty warehouse. It’s only noticeable if you really listen closely. However in select games (in particular Bloodstained Ritual of the Night) that metallic effect is overpowering and obviously different between having it on and off. Navigating menus and footsteps have a clear clang to them. That game sounded fine on my other headset and my speakers. The Command Center lets you download custom profiles. They update the firmware and profiles and is recommended to update the headset. I just stick to the default Pro or Studio setting. It’s easy to use and you can adjust channels and frequencies to your liking. Overall I think it’s a good headset. Definitely one of the most comfortable pairs I’ve owned. The Dolby setting can add some weird effect but with most games it’s fine.

Excellent Gaming Headphones!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Astro A50 Wireless Headphones are a great headphone for gaming. Here are some of the pros: Set-up was simple. Plug in and go. It comes with an optical cable or USB to use. The headphones are comfortable to wear for long periods of time when you are fully immersed in your games. The sound quality is superior. Playing on PS4 you can hear where the sounds are coming from whether in front, behind above, to the left or right. You know where the other players are coming from. The microphone sound quality is good. It has a flexible boom that you can raise up to mute. Charging base station will not overcharge. It has smart technology that won't let you overcharge if you leave them on the base for too long. Overall these are the best headphones we have used for the PS4. Highly recommend.

Premium Gaming Headset
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ll start by saying this headset is huge! Like aviation headset huge. It also feel pretty hefty weight wise. It’s just under a pound, but I don’t know the actual weight. Having said that, these are amazingly comfortable. These are one of the first over the ear headsets I’ve used where my ears don’t actually touch the cushions. They rest almost entirely on your head. Setup was easy. Just plug the USB power cord into either a PC, PS4 or a power brick and rest the headphones in the included charging base. I did notice that if I didn’t set the headset on the cradle just right, it won’t charge. You have to make sure that the charging light on the headset lights up to know it’s set in right. You can download the free Astro Command center app where you can tweak the EQ and other settings. I didn’t mess with that much, but plan to spend more time with it once I get used to the headset. An important note if you are buying these to use with your PS4. These require the use of an optical port for sound. If you own the newer PS4 Slim or Pro (as I do) those systems no longer have an optical port. I dealt with this by purchasing an inexpensive audio extractor. Still it’s a little annoying that Astro’s latest headset does not account for the new PS4 models. Almost as annoying as Sony taking away the optical port. As for the sound, the best word that comes to mind is “immersive”. The highs are crisp and clear, the base is powerful without making your head vibrate. The surround sound effect is incredible as well. I kept wanting to turn my head in the direction of the sounds while gaming. Overall, the A50s are a premium headset at a premium price. However, they are not overpriced for what you get.

Sorry Astro it's me, not you...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sorry Astro it's me, not you, I have been spoiled by Arctis Pro’s Bluetooth multitasking abilities...The A50s are not to blame here. I had been using Arctis Pro Wireless for 4 Years. They were out of warranty and the right ear cup died. I decided to give the A50s a shot this time. I lasted a week before realizing it was a mistake and I had to return them. The A50's were not bad, I was just used to so much more. Not being a stranger to Astro I had previously bought 2 pairs of Astro A40's with Mix Amp Pro. back in 2015 and still have them to this day and they work fine. Initially, I just wanted a wireless headset for playing Keyboard and Drums, and also games like RockSmith2014 with guitar wireless was the way. sSo much nicer not fighting with cords while jamming. There is nothing is wrong with the A50’s they are just lacking compared to the Arctis Pro wireless. The Bluetooth connectivity with my PC, cellphone, and tablets was CLUTCH. Swappable batteries. Better sound accuracy. Being able to use them with Multiple devices simultaneously like playing a backing track on my Cell while using the headset connected to my drumset or keyboard or just using them with the PC and seamlessly take a call on my cell. Being able to volume control audio, calls or music.. Sorry Astro maybe if you get Bluetooth I will give them a shot again next time?

The BEST Customer support PERIOD
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are not only fantastic headphones, they are unbelievably soft, on the earcups. High quality in nature and rely on a design with modularity so that in heavy use you can replace individual components on the headphones rather than the Entire thing. I have had a few issues with them over the years, such as a broken bridge piece on the headrest, a few broken cables and a broken mic. Astro has replaced all of them for free MULTIPLE TIMES OVER! Even when im out of warranty, they set the golden standard for custom service by FAR out of any company ive ever worked with

Like a Pro
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SUMMARY This is Astro’s flagship headset that is popular among pro-gamer's that has improved over time sound-wise with software updates, it is compatible with PS4, PC & Mac, has good battery life and can customize sound via an EQ on PC. THE GOOD: Easily switch between console to PC 15 hour battery life Quality Dolby headphone surround sound (NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE FIRMWARE!) Battery saver when placed on side Headphone has micro USB (charge while playing) Wireless base station THE BAD: Heavy & clunky Wireless range only around 12 feet The docking station that acts as a charger and wireless transmitter. The base station has inputs for optical audio, as well as optical pass-through and a 1/8” aux input in case you want to plug in another audio source. A switch on the side lets you toggle between your console and your PC, depending on which system you’re using. The headset itself has a 3 way EQ switch on the right ear that lets you toggle between EQ settings that you can customize using an included PC app. There’s also a power switch and a Dolby button for hopping between stereo and surround sound. The right ear exterior is a large rocker that you can use to adjust the game/chat audio balance, and there’s a volume knob located on the bottom of the cup. A chat microphone is attached to the left ear and will automatically mute itself if you swing it all the way up. FINAL THOUGHTS: Good sound and mic makes this a solid option, plus premium features but it does get a little uncomfortable while wearing it long term.

Worse than older Gen 2 A50. Skip these.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had an Astro A50 Gen 2 before this and this headset is worse in every way other than battery life. Sound is fine. Microphone is a big downgrade. The headset range is much worse. The headband is terrible just google "astro a50 h" and auto complete will do the rest. The dock is WHY? You have to remove any fit adjustment to the headset for the dock to actually charge and then readjust the headset every time to put them back on. I get the marketing, but Is that any time-saving over just plugging it in? The ear-cups don't tilt inwards as much, so instead of evenly applying pressure to your head it's concentrated below your ears and on the headband that will fall off unless you superglue or cable-tie it. Update the firmware if you dare, as it often results in a bricked headset, so if you're a risk taker at least do it within return period. I get it the older Astro A50 were more expensive and that's before counting inflation. But most of those cost cuts could've happened elsewhere because the design and software support failures seem like a ship it & forget it approach on behalf of Logitech.
