    Fantastic Headset!!

I have the A50 for PC and the sound is amazing. Bass is actually felt even though it's just a headset. Highs will give you chills, and mids are perfectly balanced. The wireless connectivity works flawlessly. battery life could be better, but if it's a necessary evil to acheive this sound, then it's okay.

These headphones are so nice. i had the turtle beach 800x and the a50 sound so much better. Granted the turtle beaches have more features like Bluetooth but when it comes to superior sound the a50s beat a lot on the market for the price in the gaming world. if your spending 300 on headphones it better have good sound quality.

    Cost Vs. Quality?

    Posted .

These headphones have really great sound and the volume to back it up. Obviously, they're tuned for games, but I enjoyed movies on them as well, and even music to some extent. You only have one wire for Xbox One, from the headset to the controller, and that's only when you want to use the mic. It's a non-issue, in my opinion, and it's nice to not have to buy the Microsoft chat adapter on top of your headphone purchase. You don't need any wires at all if you use them on PC. But I'm returning them. Two reasons: humming/buzzing in the right ear, which gets louder on occasion in connection with the mic. It's always there to some extent though, even when the mic isn't making it louder. While I'm certain it is due to being a wireless headset, there are other manufacturers out there that have solved the problem AND cost less. Which brings me to my second point. As good as these sound, they're not worth $300. It's as simple as that, subjective as it might be. Oh, and the optical pass-through stopped working after about a week or two. AND, I don't like that the ear pads in the marketing shots look more comfy than the ones they actually shipped with. So -1 star for malfunctions, and -1 star as the quality versus cost equation comes out in the negative.

I love these headphones and I'm glad I picked them up on Black Friday for 25% off. Managed to get the headset, 2 years of geek squad, and with all my certificates and gift cards I only had to spend $80. That's a steal! But the audio is amazing and everything about these is perfect. I thought there was no wires at all going to the headset from the controller but there are if you want to chat with people which is kind of annoying. If you're on the fence about buying these like I was, it's worth every penny.

    BEST SOUND/WEIGHT/LOOKS. CONS-Scuf One Paddles

So just received my headset today. I own other headset such as Tritton Warhead, Turtle Beach Seven and Atlas. This headset is by far the loudest headset ive ever used. And the weight of the headset is great compare to my trittons which were kinda on the heavy size. And the ear cups so comfortable on my ears/glasses. Also people that wear gauges in ears mine are 5/8 and the earcups still felt great. So no need to take your gauges out. My only problem was my scuf one elite hybrid w/ 4 paddles when u connect the chat adaptor the edge lifts up the two center paddles making them useless. So had to cut the corners off to make it use able. Still works but for being a pro gamer headset the should have made it compatible for pro gamer controllers. But thats the only problems i have with it. Fits perfect on regular xbox one controller.

When choosing this headset, I was concerned about the sound quality of the headset. However, upon trying them on and messing around with the mix amp, I’ve found that there were two settings with the sound quality. I could either listen to the sound using the 5.1 channel or I can utilize the full potential of the headset by listening to sounds in a 7.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound. When I turned on the 7.1 Surround Sound, I was amazed by the sound quality that these headset produced.

    Astro A-50 wireless headset

These things are definitely the top of the chain. I first bought a set of polk 4-shots. Gamestop had dropped the price on those from $180 to $80 and I had told myself I wasn't going to spend a lot of money on a gaming headset. I enjoyed a headset so much that I returned them for some Astro A-40's. Then, I was so blown away at the sound and quality of the Astros, that I had to find out how the pricier and wireless, dolby surround 50's were. I am very glad I did! The 50's are so cool in a lot of ways. They get very very loud with outstanding sound quality. You definitely get what you pay for. If you are thinking about buying some of these but aren't sure because of the price, all I can tell you is you WILL be very satisfied!

    Excellent in some regards, but....

Sound quality and volume is excellent. 7.1 surround works pretty well considering there are only 2 speakers. The microphone seems a bit "spotty". I had some complain of the quality, while others heard it just fine. The mic itself isn't really adjustable, and that may be part of the problem. The arm is permeable, and can move the mic closer to the mouth, but it always goes back to the original position. To use chat the included adapter must be attached to the controller, and is connected to the headset via a 3.5mm connector. It's only wireless if you don't want to use voice chat, another disappointment for a $300 headset. Also the mic does not seem to be noise cancelling as others could often hear background noise. For a $300 headset this is a bit of a disappointment. Build and feel is solid, and the cloth fabric is soft and breathable. For the most part they are comfortable for extended periods. The only comfort complaint I have is that the padding which rests on the top of your head should be wider. I can always feel it, and after a few hours this feeling was more pronounced, which was a bit annoying. Instead of a wide cushion to distribute the weight, it was thin and therefore 'focused'. These are excellent headsets, however for $300 I expected them to "blow me away", and they didn't. Perhaps I was a little disappointed due to hype setting my expectations high. I am also unsure of the longevity. After a week of use, this morning I pulled them off the charger and went to use them, and no sound at all. Power cycled the mixamp, restarted headphone, checked all connections.... and nothing. Not exactly confidence inspiring. As I go back and read what I wrote, I keep seeing "$300" come up, and I guess that's kind of the issue. These are the most expensive headsets I've seen for the XB1, and while the sound is excellent and it "feels" like an expensive headset, it has some shortcomings that just should not exist on what is the highest priced product in its category. I would consider these excellent at around the $200 mark, but while i would not recommend against them (again, the sound is excellent), I just don't feel they are a great value at the $300 price point. They need to have a "maybe" as a choice for "I would recommend this to a friend". Since there isn't, I will mark as "yes" but take that with a grain of salt.

    Solid Headset

The headset works well; the surround sound is great and the quality of the music and the action in the games is nearly unmatched, but why can they not make a truly wireless headset? It's wireless unless you want to game, then you have to connect the wired adapter. That makes no sense. Come on Astro.

Amazing game sound - terrible chat

I normally review the heck out of products I purchase but I didn't do my due diligence on this one. I saw some recommendations and endorsements and decided to pull the trigger. They were super easy to setup and be up and running. They look and feel amazing even when wearing they are extremely comfortable. I turned on my console after updating the firmware on the MixAmp and headset and the sound was startling. I love it, and the comfort was top notch. I received a party invite from some of my Xbox One friends and that is where things went downhill. First it was upsetting that they weren't fully wireless (chat) when Turtle Beach has two models that are. Then the barrage of comments about how I sounded like a tin robot and was talking from across the room. I checked all settings, re-positioned everything I could (mic doesn't really do anything except slide up or down) and nothing helped. I then went online to the Astro forums to find loads of the same issues that have been going on for over 6 months. If I pay $300 for a headset it has to perform the basic functions to the fullest. I returned them the very next day for the Turtle Beach Stealth 500x and love them. Please be weary of this headset and do some quick Google searches while also checking out their forums.

    Returned after 2 days

I was so disappointed in this headset having bought into the hype for them. I've owned the Turtle Beach PX5's for years now and was waiting on Astro to deliver an Xbox One Specific headset before I upgraded. I bought this headset day one when it was released and I ended up returning them for an electrical glitch 2 days later. First the Pros: - Very Comfortable. They sat a little tight on my head, but I have a big head. Other than that they were light, (12.8 oz) and there was enough cup padding to completely cover my ears. Very breathable. -Good Sound. Some would say amazing, but I won't. Very good bass, but only 3 non programable EQ modes really limit the sound output. Now the Cons -Super Sensitive microphone. Some may label this as a plus, but my friends could actually hear my button presses on my controller and my wife banging around in the kitchen behind me. There is no way to adjust the gain. Mouth breathers beware! -Very Low Mic Monitoring. I could barely hear myself through the mic....sometimes not at all. This is one area where Turtle Beach blows Astro away. There is no way to adjust this. -Wired Puck has no controls. Call me petty, but when they release the M80 puck that has all your controls with the A40 headset, I would expect something with the A50's. Every adjustment requires you to take your hand off your controller and tinker with the headset cups. Not even a mute button! Flip up the mic to mute. -Still had interference. 5.8Ghz or not, I still had signal interference when I was only 5" away from the Mixamp. I am not running a 5 Ghz network in my house. So the electrical issue I had was with charging. The indicator basically always showed yellow and would never turn red indicating a full charge. Astro support wanted me to RMA them. Sorry, but I'm not paying $300 for a refurb. Obviously not everyone will experience this issue. I just think for the insane pricetag of $300, you should get more than a moderately good sounding headset with next to no configuration options. Very disappointed.

    Definitely not worth $300!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Summary/Intro: ---------------------- After using this headset for one week I can say without a doubt that this headset is not worth it's $300 price tag! The sound quality is weird and if you're thinking of possible using this on the PC you will most likely have to purchase an extra cable for surround sound(Should be included in a $300 headset). I also had a few problems with the microphone... Sound quality: ---------------------- I'm not an expert so I don't have a very good idea as to what would be considered worth $300 in terms of sound quality. Although, I can say that the sound coming from the headset is inferior(In my opinion) to say the G930's or G933's. Comfort: ---------------------- I think the headset is relatively comfortable, but again, not what I expected out of a $300 headset... The material, although you may like it, feels odd and just makes me ears uncomfortable. Plus, I have pretty big ears and it doesn't full fit over them and barely touches the edges of my ear making it even worse. Microphone: ---------------------- The microphone is great, for a headset I feel the quality of the microphone is actually pretty good. I do however have one complaint, if you have the microphone on(Pushed down) and it detects ANY and I mean any noise it will make a super annoying noise(Like a hissing or humming) in the background. To make it even worse I asked them about it and the response I got was "This was normal and I should just ignore it while playing games..." Are you serious? I can't be the only one that thinks that telling me I should just ignore it is stupid, right? Stand: ---------------------- I personally never used the stand that it came with because of an issue that many people reported. Apparently, using the stand for the headset too much permanently pushes in the material on the top of the headset... Which I assume would add to the discomfort I was feeling while wearing this headset. Conclusion: ---------------------- I didn't enjoy using this headset and it's not what I expected from a $300 dollar headset. In the end I ended up returning it to the store in exchange for the G933's and $100 back. That was definitely the right decision!

Sounds amazing, but the design is flawed

The headset sounds fantastic. The virtual surround sound is amazing. My issues with it have to do with the design. The off/on/pairing button is tiny and hard to click. Volume control is a bit inconveniently located. The sound mode switch is also tiny and hard to use. I understand that they want to make it sleek, but there is a point of diminishing returns between sleek and hard to use. I've had several other pairs of surround sound headphones and I have never heard any that presented as wide a soundstage and localized the sounds so well.

This is one of the best headsets on the market. Yes the price is pretty steep, but you get what you paid for. If you simply can't pay that much, buy it around the holiday when it's usually on sale. This headset is amazing for gaming. It sounds like everything is happening all around you and you'll catch yourself looking behind you occasionally. With one of the modes you can actually hear footsteps of other players trying to sneak up on you. The wireless is great because you don't have a set of cables running from you to the tv. You can use these to talk on your phone, listen to music, etc. on phones, tablets mp3 and more. It's a very well rounded headset which is why I spent so much on it.

I have had many wireless headsets and these are by far the best sounding set I have had yet. Have the Turtle Beach 500x and they don't even come close to this head set. Wanted to try the Elite 800X but not sure about the mic location on them. Astro A50 for Xbox One really worked to make these go great with the system.

Astro A50 2015 Xbox One Best Buy edition

    Posted .

First let me talk about how great this headset is; the A50's offer great sound and great features. The EQ's are pretty nice this time around: the 1st being Media mode, the 2nd being Core mode and the 3rd being Pro mode (my favorite). The headset come with a XG1 chat cable that allows one to chat over Xbox Live. It is an attached cable to the proprietary connection port on the XB1 controller and at the other end of the cable is a 2.5mm three pole jack the plugs into your headset, to enable chat. Now for the sound quality, the A50 headset delivers stellar 7.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound wirelessly from the TXD MixAmp transmitter. Also, the microphone on the Astro A50 headset is awesome this time around. It sounds a lot more clear and does have nearly as much feedback. The TXD MixAmp features a: USB port, 3.5 AUX port, a Optical IN and Optical pass-through port on the rear, as well as the Micro USB power port. The AUX port will allow one to use a phone that is plugged in and talk through the A50 wireless headset or plug in an MP3 player, iPod, and stream music through. All in all, I would highly recommend this headset.

Amazing sound, extremely comfortable. I can wear these all day. Not sure there worth $300. They have to be plugged in to the controller for the Mic to work which I use every time I play so there NEVER wireless for me. Also the Mic. Is Stiff and doesn't move closer to your mouth it just goes up and down and 90% of the time doesn't pick up my voice unless I'm talking loudly. Absolute worst Mic ever. So I'm taking them back until they come out with a true wireless headset.

I will be returning due to they disconnected randomly during game play which also causes the controller to disconnect. When they do this they create a very loud crackle noise that not only makes you jump but also hurts your ears. Aside from that they were amazing. They were super comfortable, when they did stay connected the sound was amazing. I'm really upset they have this issue. And I know this must be common because my friend got them with me and he also returned for the exact same issue.
