    Best sounding headset I've tried

First off, let me say that this is the 2nd pair of this exact headset I've bought. The first (purchased online from another retailer) didn't work - or rather, failed catastrophically after 2 days of use and were promptly returned. Secondly, I will say that I have subsequently tried almost every other "premium", surround, wireless headset compatible with the XB1, and none could compare to the beautiful and massive sound that these had. They all had their own problems, and I ended up returning them all. So I gave these a second chance because they were the best sounding, and have had no problems with them this second time around and am actually quite happy now. I've been using these now for a month and a half with no issues. Other headsets I tried: Steelseries Siberia 800 - almost as good sounding as these, but just not loud enough. Liked the design though. Turtle beach XP500 - this is the headset I came from, used for the last 3 years. Just not cutting it, got tired of the distorted bass and overall weak sound. Bluetooth was nice. Turtle Beach Elite 800X - in a word: abysmal. Sound was tinny. Chat was distant. My own voice echoed like mad. Not very comfortable. V-Moda Crossfade M-100 (w/V-Moda boom mic) - beautiful headset, absolutely incredible and detailed sound imaging despite being "stereo" with no dolby processing. Downfall was with wiring. Couldn't do what I wanted (like watch a movie and be on a phone call at the same time. Would keep these just for listening to music if I could afford it. CONS: I feel like I should list what I consider to be negatives though I'm not subtracting any stars (would subtract 0.5 stars if I could)... -Battery life isn't that great. 6-8 hours at higher volumes? Charging takes about 4. -Chat volume is pretty low. With my old headset I was used to about a 60% game, 40% chat mix. With these I have to do about a 80% chat, 20% game mix in order to hear anyone well enough. It's doable, it just feels weird because you actually have to crank the volume VERY high when you mix it this far towards chat. I found this to be true whether using the Astro supplied chat adapter or the XB1 official adapter with an old TB cable I have. Same goes for phone calls (requires the TB cable). -I'm told my voice is pretty quiet to others as well. I have to speak up more and/or munch on the microphone. Bottom line is that these were the best sounding surround headset, they are compatible with XB1, XB360, my home stereo, my PC, etc. I have a little box that takes all my HDMIs in and gives me an HDMI out to my TV, and an Optical out to my headset. There is an optical passthrough on the headset base that I run to my soundbar. So - no matter what source I'm using (cable, XB1, XB360, PC) I can listen with this headset, my soundbar, or both. Genius. I would definitely recommend these and when I'm ready for another headset in the future, Astro is probably where I'll look first...

NOT A BEST BUY ASTRO A50

I have now returned my 2nd pair of ASTRO A50 headset. I had my 1headset for 6mo before they started acting up they would cut out the chat function and make my controller disconnect from my XBOX ONE. I did the update on them and didn't help at all they would work off and on some days they would be great and i would use them the next day and they would stop working. I got my second pair and a week later had the same issue i kept them for 3 weeks. I e-mailed ASTRO to see if they could help me with the issue there is no live person to talk to or call chat it suck because you have to wait a day or 2 to get an email back. Well they had me go and change all my settings again that i had correct in the first place and do an update and still had the same issue as before. I took them back and will never go back to ASTRO again i will stick to a better working product i got Turtlebeach 800x Elite and i have to say a much better headset. Sorry but do not buy ASTRO!!!!!

I was torn between the Astro A50's and the elites 800's and after reading the reviews it was the mentions of comfort that leaned me towards the A50's and I purchased them . My first pair I had to return within a few days due to excessive static in the left ear. Prior to returning I did go through and verify that they had the latest firmware it was a headset issue not a firmware issue. Best Buy allowed me to swap them out with zero hassle . My second pair of A50's lasted a few weeks and the I lost game sound. Again I verified that I had the latest firmware and again it was a headset issue. Such a shame since they really were comfortable . I choose not to go with another set of A50's and this time swapped them out for the elite 800's for my xbox1. I will write a review on the 800's after I put some more time on them but so far I am glad that I did not give the Astros a third chance to disappoint .. Many of my friends are happy with their Astros however most of them have owned them for years so maybe there are issues with how they are being made now. Thank goodness for Best Buys return policy especially with the amount of $ these gaming headsets cost.

The best sound Xbox One headset on the market

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I absolutely love this headset. It sounds fantastic and is really well made. My only concern is the chat adapter. It fits really tightly into the controller and the wire is permanently attached, so if anything ever happens, you will need to replace the whole adapter. The chat adapters for the Xbox One are pretty bad in general, so I feel like this could be an issue at some point. That aside, I absolutely love them and use them religiously.

Well your probably reading these reviews on bestbuy because your not sure if you want to purchase these for your xbox one, my personal opinion of the astro a50s gen 2 is pretty low. Pros: Good sound , great bass, amazing surround sound Cons: mic is absolutely horrible, friends say i sound far and tinny when your paying 300 for an amazing headset you want a great mic as well unfortunately these do not have one.

    Not as good as expected

My mate got me these when we went to New York, I live in the UK. Once I got them I started using them. The sound is great but there are any things wrong with them. One being is that the mic is shocking, people can barely hear me talking and paying $300 for something you expect them to be perfect. Another problem I have is that I constantly lose game sound which is so annoying when playing cod and fifa etc. all they help I have been given is to drain the battery and reconnect them, which I done but doesn't work. Another problem is that in order to actually talk to people you have to plug the headset into your controller which then doesn't make them wireless. So overall great sound (when it works) and also really comfy but poor mic and constant sound issues. But not worth anything near $300

Literally the best headset I've owned. Going from the Turtle Beach X41's, I feel this was the right choice over Turtle Beach's current wireless headset. I decided to pay the extra cash for the A50's and I don't regret it. They are super comfortable, they have convenient features, and the 7.1 Dolby is great. I also love that they are rechargeable and don't require separate batteries. Glad I spent the money

I have tried turtle beach many times. I keep going back to astro. Nothing fits like them and the over the ear design truly emerces you I to the experience. I had the TB 500x for the Xbox one. I took them back due to low volume and could not make the sound seperate from the chat. Get them now!!!

This is a Great piece of tech, beautiful mids and highs. The bass is kinda floppy for my taste but all in all a Great product. My biggest issue is the short cables,There each about 1 foot long so dont expect to lounge in your chair in your living room while playing destiny etc. Over all its a great headset though!

    Great sound, disappointing control mixer

I purchased the headset for its wireless and chat capabilities for xbox one. It was disappointing when the headset has popping noise every once of a while as if there is a bad wireless connection even though im sitting right by the base. And the controls for mixing chat and game audio are just terrible. Absolutely bad, and sound volume control as well. the controls are delayed, you can turn it up and no change, then 10 seconds later suddenyl its louder. very disappointed for what was a 299.99 item when i bought it, but now is 259.99 7 days later.

    Great Headset

Pro: This being my 1st headset purchase from Astro and being my 3rd headset for my Xbox One, the A50 is by far "the most" comfortable gaming headset i have owned for a gaming console. ***If you are new to buying a gaming headset, after opening the box ensure you update the firmware to the headset first before using to ensure you have the latest update. Cons: -At times and very rare i get a pop, not a big deal just annoying when it happens and it doesn't happen often. I still gave it 5 stars. -In order to use the mic you will have to plug it into the headset, the downside is that it is not a 3.5mm jack but the older type plug in (that comes packaged). If you have a keypad you will have to remove it to use the mic. Just FYI.

    Not good enough Astro!

I never write reviews.... never, but this purchase gave me no choice. Sound from these headphones is very good, not great, but very good. There is no information in the box as to what the functions of the headset are. There are 3 EQ settings, what are they? What's the difference? Maybe Astro think I should just guess? The stand that comes with these headphones is plastic, cheapo, cheapo plastic. Not only disappointing, but totally unfunctional. They leave a fabulous dent in the memory foam on the headsets. Way to go Astro! But I've saved the worst until last..... the microphone. What did we do to deserve this piece of junk Astro? Other players complain of the distant tinny sound, not good, but even worse is the fact that there is no way to adjust the mike volume in your own headset. You can hardly hear yourself speak. I ended up playing with one earphone half on/off one ear so I could hear myself talk. I persevered with these Astro's, I wanted to love them.... I HAD to love them, they cost $320 with tax!!!!!!! I kept them for a week and ended up loathing them. If Astro was still at school, its report would read " Could do better. SO MUCH BETTER" grade F.

I'm a gamer. My first headset was a logitech g930. When I bought this headset to replace the logitech the price of the logitech was $80. I wish I would have saved the $220. This is the worst headset ever. When I first purchased it it was fine. Since then I've had connection issues, sound issues (which I can't fix) and numerous other problems.

My opinion I personally own the A50's used with my Xbox One and they sound amazing with a nice rumble but the chat function is HORRID! No one can ever hear me and tends to shut off my controller randomly. I will say I can get at least a solid 6 hours of play before these will die. The support for Astro is also horrible recently had to return for service after 6 months. All they did was replace the chat adapter!! Please dont buy these if you plan to play and chat at the same time. I'm completely dissatisfied with the A50's and will probably gift these to a friend that doesn't chat online.
