Certainly understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused you if the Chromebook stop working or it auto-shutdown.
In order to prevent this from occurring, if running with the battery only, please make sure the battery has an ample amount of charged life. Also, please do not run any power-hungry software or application. Running these applications will cause auto-shutdown when battery life is running low.
The Chromebook may go into hibernate mode when idle for a long time, pressing and holding down the power button will usually wake it up.

The laptop is good for school work.

I ordered this a month ago, and paid more for it to come quicker before school started. Sadly it came a month late, and I still got charged with the fast shipping.

Bad quality

What a bad experience. Worse computer ever.

We purchased this computer last August 2020. It died on us November 20,2020. The battery is completely inoperable. The replacement battery is almost as much as we paid for the computer. Make a better decision than we did. Take this computer off your list. You will lose your money. Or be lost in claims limbo. Avoid headaches. No one takes responsibility for returning your money on these scenarios. Plus repairs with the geeks are similar in price as the initial cost.

Usually, the following can be performed if the battery will no longer charge, or the Chromebook will not power on or boot up.
Please verify if the AC adapter is properly connected from the Chromebook to a known good, working surge protector or AC outlet. Try to connect it to another known good power source. If running it with battery only, please make sure the battery has an ample amount of charge. If this was tried to no avail, please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory and reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter, do not power on the Chromebook until the battery was charged.

Usually, the following can be performed if the Chromebook stop to power on or boot up.
Please verify if the AC adapter is properly connected from the Chromebook to a known good, working surge protector or AC outlet. Try to connect it to another known good power source. If running it with battery only, please make sure the battery has an ample amount of charge. If this was tried to no avail, please try to disconnect the AC adapter and let the unit drain for 24 hours to clear the memory and reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter, do not power on the Chromebook until the battery was charged.
If the Chromebook will power on but will not bootup normally in the OS, please try to do a Powerwash using the hotkeys, "Shift + Ctrl + Alt + R".

Bought this computer in July and it's already been in for repair. The charging port broke in Oct, thankfully it was covered under warranty. Now the headphone port is spotty. It works sometimes and other times it goes out. This computer sits on a desk all day, it is used by a 9 year old but I bought this as the schools recommend Chromebooks. Won't buy an ASUS again. Only good thing was I bought it when it was on sale.

Terrible software

I took it in to get some help but no one could do anything. So I swapped with the same kind of computer thinking it would make a difference but didn’t. I don’t know how these are even able to be sold if a window pops up every 30 seconds. That doesn’t make sense

Do understand your disappointment with the product and your concern about thermal issue and the system freeze, or stability issue.
It is normal for the Chromebook to be hotter while under heavy load. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal. It does decreases or normalizes once utilization goes down.
If the Chromebook is freezing up, please verify if it has access to a stable and a high-speed internet service. Since this is a web-based computer, poor internet connection or service will cause system freeze, stability and performance issue. So often, it's unusable. Breaks 3 weeks after purchase, which means I can no longer return it to Best Buy. Best Buy, you should make the return policy 30 days for returns. I shop through you because Amazon is killing you with their convenience and I hope you stay in business. However, I wish I had purchased this through Amazon so I could return the defective product.

Indeed, the Chromebook is a decent entry-level laptop perfect for running basic and light computing applications, without compromising system stability and performance.
Do understand your concern regarding the heat on the Micro-SD card. If a read/write activities is being processed on the Micro-SD, it does generate heat, which is normal. If the heat is excessive, this is a random hardware related issue.
