But, after I got it I looked up its Auto Update End date and found it to be in 2024. Chromebooks have a life of at least 5 years. So its actual first issue date was in 2019. With only two more years to 2024 I decided to return, it.

It's regrettable to hear that you return the Chromebook. Since the OS is running from the Cloud, the security update is not a concern since Cloud Storage gets its security updates periodically. Without an OS update, the unit will still work properly. If you have any concerns about another model, feel free to reach out to me at customerloyalty@asus.com and provide this link for reference.
