We're sorry to hear about the unfortunate experience you're having with the unit running slow and the fan being loud. The noise that is emitting from the computer is known as coil whine. When the electrical current is increased to a certain point, the magnetic field around the coil can cause it to vibrate, which produces the whiny sound. We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused.
If the laptop will not power on, or boot up or it's just black screen, please do the following.
Verify if the AC adapter is connected properly from the laptop to a known good power outlet or AC source. Try another power source.
Try to press and hold down the power button to shut it down completely, just in case laptop is not in hibernate mode, wait for at least 10 seconds then power on. Please wait, if the system is applying updates in the System Registry, it will black screen temporarily. If it still black screen after a few minutes, at least 10 minutes, please repeat the power cycle process again.
Also, please try to disconnect the power cable and let the unit drain for at least an hour to clear the memory. This will reset the hardware to default settings. After doing this, please reconnect your AC adapter then power on the laptop.

Great 14" laptop for a sale price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Even if you left Windows 11 on this laptop, it would still be impressive for such a low sale price, ($139.99). Within 3 hours I was fed up with Windows, (had to set up MS account to remove 'S' mode, which was last straw for me). Decided to install Linux Mint OS, and even found a web site with good instructions on installing the driver for the cool touchpad/numpad feature. I always missed the number keypad, and this 'numpad' works fine, allowing me to enter numbers into spreadsheets easier. If contemplating installing Linux, Asus doesn't make it simple, so I suggest installing Ubuntu first, which makes installing my favorite, Linux Mint easier. At a point, you will be asked whether to allow the Linux Mint installer to fix the partitions. Say 'no' to both times that is asked and then agree to the next choice, and the install will continue and complete. Worth the effort. Had similar complicated install of Linux on another ASUS. Now that I have Linux Mint on this little laptop, it runs like a scared rabbit! Very fast. Hard to believe it is a Celeron. I have not yet tested it to see how much of a load it can carry before bogging, but so far it is great for a 4GB machine. If you can get this price, and don't need a high performance computer, (just web browsing and light work, and games) this is a very good choice. Almost forgot... there is one con to share. It does get quite warm on the bottom, but the temps are showing right at 50-52 C, while playing YT videos, which isn't terrible. Sound is decent. Bear in mind that I have not tested the battery life yet. Will mark it 5 stars to give it benefit of the doubt.

Waste of money

ASUS-14 Laptop N4500 (Holiday Purchase)

Required a lighter inexpensive laptop for travel purposes. It has done the job. All the reviews help with my decision. Only suggestion, if you are little more computer savvy, it benefits you to add SSD and take it out of S Mode. Be sure to get a good Anti-virus program. Great inexpensive start-up laptop for your children.

Not for Seniors

However, having said that, there are a few shortcomings. To start with, the track pad is total garbage. It has a numbers only feature with an on/off switch, but when you are typing it is easy to enable the numbers, which is really annoying. Maybe this design was a good thought, but in reality, it is poorly designed and cumbersome. Out of frustration, I ended up purchasing a separate wireless mouse, and I would strongly recommend this to anyone purchasing this machine.

Santa Gift

Great Christmas gift

So far so good!

Only had one system crash and it wasn't the computers fault, was running an app still in development. Would recommend do someone that needs a work laptop. Wouldn't recommend for hard games lol.
