Excellent Entry Level Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you buy this, you are not going to be doing any hardcore gaming. This is an entry level rig that actually runs Windows without hiccups (youtube and Excel). So far I've run various Linux distros in VMware on either partition and kept the CPU below 70C consistently. Upgrading the RAM with an 8GB stick was a snap because of the door on the underside and replacing the SSD with larger one wasn't very difficult. If you don't feel comfortable with it then hire a pro or pop in a SD card for added storage. Besides being cheap, the single largest reason for choosing this computer was the keyboard. Among the less expensive laptops that are out right now this had the most comfortable layout for me. This machine is very lightweight and some of this is due to it not having a CD drive and I almost gave it 4 stars instead of 5 but then I thought, "When is the last time that I used a CD drive on any computer?"

Excellent Product - Forget the free download
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am completely satisfied with the ASUS PC, a nice follow on to my ASUS Chromebook, both are excellent. Be very wary of the free Webroot Internet Security download. I received a free trial from BestBuy when I purchased my new ASUS PC. I decided to give it a try and it was a disaster. I installed it yesterday and today my new (as in 3 weeks) PC was partially inoperable and the performance was adversely affected. I was unable to access the tool bar, etc, etc. As soon as I was able to resume minimum control of my PC I uninstalled Webroot, which unto itself was a bit complex. As a one time experience, I would not consider using Webroot if they paid me. Nothing is free and in this case the trial was certainly not worth the effort. My one instance suggest one be to be very, very wary using this product. I in no way recommend it. I am very surprised that it performed so poorly, it does not reflect highly on Best Buy who I have high regard for.

Great laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased a week ago and am VERY pleased. Easy to setup, nice and fast. I am not a gamer so I can't vouch for that but it meets all of my needs.

Snappy Performance, Great Value!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it so far, replaced a four year old Toshiba. For $320, to get an 8mg memory and a 128mg solid state drive laptop is awesome. Easy set up, fast performance, nice features. No DVD drive or touchscreen, but my stuff is securely in the cloud, so this laptop is an ideal web surfer. ASUS has a good reputation. Thank you Best Buy!

Internet speed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This my third Asus laptop. My questions is why is it slower than my older Asus laptop on download speedson a speed test. Both are have been hooked to the modem direct. The older Asus gets 960 mbs and this new one gets only 650. A difference of 350 mbs.

Great product for its price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product like I said, budget friendly and gets the job done. Only negative thing is the flimsy metal surrounding the keyboard? You’re able to bend it even when just typing. Able to upgrade to 16 GB total RAM aswell and the SSD if you feel like it’s slacking. AMD 12 processor is nice but would be cool to be able to interchange easily if wanted. Question though, I know it’s recommended to upgrade to 16 GB, was wondering why not to 24 GB if you had a 16 GB RAM ready to put in?

Awesome Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ran into an issue with my laptop when it crashed & got destroyed. I needed a new laptop asap & when I went to look at some laptop's the salesman Alex was very informative. He helped me get a great laptop & explain it perfectly for me to understand the pros & cons of the laptop's in display. Very happy with my new purchase & would recommend to others.

Meh!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased for school only. It has a consistent static that emits from the speakers at all times which is annoying. And this is not a fast operating computer so be aware of that before you buy one. The battery never charges fully not sure if that is my settings power saver mode or not. If your just looking for something to get job done without high performance at a low cost it works. But the noise from speakers should be recalled by company for those of us experiencing this issue. And I know I’m not the only customer who has complained about this exact sound from speakers.

Good for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a cheap Windows laptop, it does pretty well, but don't expect anything great. It is a bit flimsy and can run slow at times, but it is not terrible.

Decent, but glaring issue from the beginning
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my girlfriend today. We like to do casual PC gaming but her previous laptop was going on 8 years old, and we were both feeling it. It had trouble running some pretty basic games (Borderlands 1 and some other games like that). Well so far this computer runs our games just fine. She also uses it for school and such. No issues regarding that either, so far. We're long distance right now, so Skype is also a big part of our relationship. This is where the issues come up. The webcam just refuses to work at all. We've been trying for 3 hours to get it to work and our record so far is 15 minutes, before it cuts to black. Sometimes it comes back on by itself for another minute or so, but it never lasts. We tried Discord and Facebook Video calling as well, both with the same issue. It's definitely the computer and not the applications. Extremely frustrating considering we brought it home too late to go return it the same day. We're trying a hard reset right now to see if maybe we did something wrong from the beginning but things really don't look good so far. It wasn't on sale either so we paid the full $400 for it. Her last computer costed half of that but at least the webcam worked. Definitely a disappointment. Maybe it is something we did wrong but I think in the 3 hours we've been fiddling with it and rebooting it, it's safe to say it's the machine, not the operator.

Posted .Dear Quasartist,
I do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience if you are experiencing issue with the webcam. It is a VGA camera so the resolution is decent. Please make sure WINDOWS Update current. Doing a video-conferencing requires a high-bandwidth internet connection, please make sure the unit has access to an established router and high-speed internet service is working properly since this will definitely affect the performance of the webcam. If you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to help.
Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

Note: This laptop does not include a built-in DVD/
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just bought yesterday and so far everything was going fine. Then this morning I go to put a dvd in to install a program I use. I had even told the saleslady which publisher program I use and discussed installing it on this laptop - and how much memory it would take. There is NO dvd port :(

No Function Lock Is Disappointing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While this laptop offers a good amount of features for its price, I was disappointed by the inflexibility ASUS offers in regards to its function keys and simple commands like screen brightness, volume control, and screen mirroring. Usually you can use FN + ESC to lock the function key bar, but this is absent where found on other computers as a standard. I will be returning this for this reason. The computer has space for a CD drive drive but it lacks it, even though the tech is cheap enough to add in for the $400 MSRP. The screen is standard HD in a time where 1080 should be the standard. YouTube and Netflix constantly stutter and the color quality could be better. Cheaper computers with better looks are out there. I decided to try something new by buying ASUS for the first time. I regret it, but luckily I'm still within the return window.

Posted .Dear Gary,
I certainly understand the inconvenience this may have caused you if the product didn't meet your expectations. The product was not advertised having a CD/DVD drive. However, if this is a requirement or becomes a necessity an external USB optical drive can be connected. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help.

DONT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Terrible experience. I got this as a gift before I started university. Within a year of having it, it showed many flaws and was basically useless. I used it solely to use word and watch Netflix. A week before the warranty was up the speakers decided to uninstall themselves from the laptop, I went through the appropriate trouble shooting with asus, which I was told I had to do prior to them taking it for warranty work, little did I know this was a week long go around and I was told at the end that they wouldn’t be able to fix it and I’d have to send it to them… which is what I asked to happen in the first place because I had already done the trouble shooting suggestions multiple times without success. Shockingly they told be that because my warranty was now expired, despite raising the issue prior to warranty expiry, I would have to pay to send it to them, and for them to fix it. The speakers were just the start, again only using my laptop for word (save my documents to cloud not even directly on the computer) and Netflix it would take Atleast 20 minutes to boot up and has progressively gotten worse. A co student of mine had the exact same laptop and also had several issues however hers decided to ditch the wifi instead. Never buying from asus again.

Cord broke and touchpad quit working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Three days after I received this, the cord, which I guess had a kink from shipping. sparked. It was completely broken through to the wires and quit working. Ordered another one. When I could use it again, the touchpad quit working. Sometimes it works at power up, but not after. Very disappointed, I don't have very much money but my kids needed a laptop for school.

Posted .Dear Rose,
Thank you for writing a comment for the product. I certainly understand your disappointment with the quality of the product if the cord broke after 3 days of usage and your concern regarding the issue with the touchpad. In order to improve the touchpad responsiveness and stability, please install all recommended WINDOWS Update. If you are accessing web applications, please verify if the laptop has access to an established router and internet service is working properly since this will affect the responsiveness of the touchpad. Also, try updating the ASUS Smart Gesture utility and try to configure the touchpad within the application. Should you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I will be more than glad to help.

Worst battery life ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is your average $300.00 laptop with no real bells or whistles but it gets the job done as long as you have a power supply nearby. The most life I've gotten out of the battery is 2 hours max. Otherwise, it's a decent buy.

Posted .Dear Richard,
Certainly, it is a decent buy. I do understand your concern regarding the short battery charge life. In order to improve or prolong the battery charged time, please try to do a battery calibration manually. To start with, please drain it completely then charge it fully without using the system. Once fully-charged, please use the system, without the AC adapter connected, and drain it completely again. Please repeat the charging process thereafter. Also, please verify if the unit is running with the most current system update and third-party battery draining applications are not running if not in used. If you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than glad to help.

Posted .Dear Vicki,
Thank you for sharing your feedback, We truly appreciate it. Firstly we would like to apologize for receiving a device that have a username and password on it. ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and final inspections for both hardware and software before we send it out to the stores worldwide. This is very unusual for any of our devices to be shipped with a username and password. Please allow us to make your experience with ASUS a better one. Please complete a Factory Data reset on the device to have the username and password remove.Turn the unit off then press and hold the F9 key >Press the power button to turn the unit back on(keep F9 held down) >Once the menu comes up, let go of F9 and select "Troubleshoot" > Select Reset this PC > Select remove everything. We certainly value your feedback. For further assistance please feel free to reach out to us by email: [email protected]. Please use a link to this review as reference. Have an extraordinary day.
