I purchased this ASUS X555QA laptop on 4/27 and I am very pleased with it. I bought it already on sale $100 off, and with a Best Buy $5 reward certificate only paid $294.99. You simply cannot beat this value for a laptop with 8GB RAM and an SSD. It runs very quickly and I am satisfied with the ASUS fit and finish which traditionally has been top-shelf. I highly recommend. I am not a huge fan of Windows 10, so I installed VMWare virtualization software. I am now running Windows 7 as a guest operating system and all my programs in a virtual machine. Long live Windows 7!!

    Fantastic Budget Laptop

I purchased this laptop with the intention of primarily coding (web dev with PHP/Laravel/Javascript/etc), with very light gaming (Battlefield and such). I use Visual Studio Code with a XAMPP stack and am amazed at how fast this laptop is. I have not tried any C++ code or any compiling yet, but I imagine it would handle it just fine. This was an upgrade from my desktop machine with was also a quad-core (Intel instead of AMD), but maxed out at 2.4GhZ. At a base speed of 3.4GhZ (I believe), this AMD A12 processor is all the power I need, and more. The 128 GB SSD and 8 GB of RAM combo is PLENTY of performance and speed I needed in order to increase my workflow and take it on the go. I know 128GB isn't much, but the cloud and external media sources should make up for the space lost (or, just upgrade the HD at some point). The battery lasts around 2-3 hours, depending on the settings. I have not yet ran it on the lowest settings to maximize battery life, however, its plenty enough for me to get a bunch of work done before needing to recharge( and by then, I usually need a break too). Its very light in comparison to other laptops I've had and stays very cool as well. You can comfortably use it on your lap if you prop your feet up without sweating from the heat. I can't say the same for other laptops I've had. I'm very surprised by the sound as well. For being a smaller, budget laptop, the sound is great and gets loud. I am extremely happy with this purchase and if you're a coder or web developer, don't hesitate to snag it if you need a tool in order to be able to take your work on the go. For $300 ($375 with a wireless mouse, a notebook bag, and taxes all together), I literally did not think I would be able to get such performance for such a small investment. If you're on the fence about getting a new laptop, don't hesitate to snag one of these.

    Great Laptop for the Price

It's a very powerful laptop, definitely worth the money I spent on it. Powers through many computationally heavy tasks and gaming. My graphics card died after just about a year of use, so I RMA'd the unit and got a motherboard replacement free of charge (thanks Asus!). Another concern is the battery life. It lasts just 2 hours of use off the battery, and got worse over time. Eventually (a year and a half) the battery just refused to charge, so I had to buy a replacement. If you intend to use this for studying etc, I would recommend bringing the charger. For LAN parties and hackathons though, it's great. The screen is pretty cheap, the colors are quite "washed out". For my needs (programming, gaming, video editing) this wasn't a big deal, but if you care about things like watching movies/TV or editing photos or doing digital drawing, that could be a concern. Overall, good value. 3 people found this helpful

    Just What I Needed

I bought the ASUS X555QA on clearance. In fact, it was sold out. I had to settle for an opened box special. Upon arrival the box was sealed with tape that read "Certified: Geek Squad". The unit was so clean and the box might as well have been factory sealed. Set up was easy peezy for this 65 year old. I did need assistance getting it to tether with my phone for internet access as I am accustomed to but a quick trip down to Best Buy and the Geed Squad had it going in no more than 15 minutes at no charge. I received it a week ago today. I ordered it the morning before. I had the option of paying an extra $36 for overnight delivery but declined. Several hours after order and shipping confirmation UPS sent a message saying there was updated shipping information and I would be receiving the package by 8pm the next day! Shoot, I'll take it. The laptop itself: I am not a gamer so I didn't need a laptop with those speeds. I watch YouTube, read and post on FB, surf the web, and do basic photo editing. I just read an article that pointed out 8 things you should look for in a laptop and this one has 'em all including 8 GB memory, an SSD, and the speed and graphics quality of the AMD A12 processor. The keyboard has a good feel IMO and the screen displays my photos beautifully. It boots up quick and shut down is way faster than my previous Lenovo Thinkpad and HP Pavilion 209. I think I knocked it out of the park and got the best bang for my buck. This ASUS retailed normally at $400. I paid about $275 + ambiguous fees. (Wasn't too pleased with those. Felt ambushed.) From what I just read the X555QA has features and performance a laptop that's more in the $600 range would have, again that 8GB of RAM. I'm more than satisfied with this notebook, elated is more like it. Couldn't be happier! Great choice for this frugal, value oriented, shopper.

If you want a decent performance notebook to run simple browser and office, this is really a good alternative. I bought this for my children school activities and it's enough at a really good price. 8GB + SSD give us some speed for basic tasks. Battery does not last for so long but considering it is a 15 inches, it is more like a desktop computer.

We got this laptop for $275 on sale. Its only for email, and web surfacing. It is a full laptop and can handle MS Office. Only draw back no back light on the keyboard and the buttons don't feel solid. But it is extremely light weight laptop. Again the price was very low so can't complain too much. Much better than my 6 year old laptop.

As compared to the HP Stream I had purchased before this computer, this one works pretty good and gets the job. This is a good laptop for students with lots of storage for documents and other files. However, this isn't the best laptop for entertainment whereas the speakers aren't the loudest, so listening with earbuds is definitely recommended if you actually want to hear what you're watching. Portability is also an issue because this laptop is a bit bulky with a plastic outermost build, so this laptop is a bit on the heavier side. Other than that, no problems at all.

I already own another brand with an A12 but with a regular hard disk. And I wasn’t very happy with it. But I was looking for another laptop for my plasma cutting table and saw this. After loading up fusion 360 on it it is pretty smooth and impressed me. YouTube videos load fast which is awesome. I definitely would recommend this laptop. The hardware delivers excellent speed for the price I paid.

This is a good laptop for someone who is looking to pay chromebook prices with better performance. The combination of 8GB RAM and SSD drive makes this laptop very responsive--booting up only takes a few seconds. For tasks such as browsing, working and editing documents, and other non-intensive tasks, this is perfect.

I purchased this laptop on sale for $279, and it was well worth it! It was easy to setup and is light as a feather (not really, but it is light). I love the solid state drive which keeps it quiet and cool, starts up in seconds and does what I need it to do. I'm not a gamer, so I wouldn't recommend this if you are one, but it works fine for word processing, e-mails, videos and the usual things that don't drag down a laptops resources. I highly recommend for a beginner or anyone who just needs a dependable laptop.

My teenager wanted a new laptop to help him create videos for his YouTube channel. We weren't going to spend a lot of money, which could have been an issue since we needed something with enough power and performance for editing and uploading. So far the ASUS has worked great. It's fast and does everything we ask of it. This was my first ASUS, and it's been a good purchase.

I needed a new laptop but wasn't wild about spending lots of money on features. This machine was the answer. It has enough memory and speed for the work I need to do. It is very lightweight and super responsive. So far, I have been very happy with its performance and the reasonable price meant that I could pay for it outright.
