My $450 3 year old HP screen died while on vacation, I went to BB and the geeks confirmed the HP was OK I just needed a monitor, The price of a decent monitor was $180 and for $249 out the door it made more sense to get the Asus. About a year and a 1/2 ago I asked a tech at another store which laptops are returned with problems the most and least and she said she'd never had anyone bring in an Asus with a problem, HP and Lenovo were the ones with the most problems. I bought an Asus for one of my kids that are on the thing all the time and it's been flawless and I think I paid about $350. So I hope this one works as good, my only complaint is windows 8 is a pain in the butt, I put a full version of office 13 on and deleted the windows 8 email program and go directly to the desktop whenever I use it but it's still annoying when navigating and the windows 8 bar gets in my way. It's so fast that sometimes my poor typing skills and the sensitivity of the mouse pad mess me up but that's user error. It would be nice if it had a lot more usb ports a mouse and keyboard uses them both up.

Asus has built an economy laptop in this model. It serves it's purpose once you learn the clunky interface. Customer service is probably the worst problem I have had, they are not informed at all. What is annoying is there is no caps lock or num lock notification, not even on screen. Plastic is used as much as possible, even the disc drive is almost completely plastic and loose, leading to noisy performance. Can run basic programs, maybe an entry level game.

This was a CHRISTMAS present for my 8 year old daughter and she loves it. The size is perfect for her to carry from her room to other rooms in the house when she has questions. She had no problems getting to know the computer and was able to bring up school related apps with ease. She loves it!!!!

It's a great buy for the price, but it does run slightly slow. Sometimes the response time lags but it does what it needs to as far as the basics. If your doing a lot of downloading I would get something else.

Good laptop for just under 200 dollars. windows 8 is tough learning curve but good to have for a laptop upgrade from 2000

Battery life is good. Boot is very sluggish. Windows 8 blows the big one. I reformatted this and installed Ubuntu on it and it runs much better. I got this on sale but I would have paid full price for it.

Pro: Low price for a big screen laptop. Easy setup. Great laptop for daily browsing. Very good battery performance. Contra: Cheap plastic and no keyboard light.

My old Asus laptop is still working but slow and out of date (over 6 years old now). I really liked it so I decided to go with Asus again as my previous one was great. I totally love this new one. From the picture quality on the screen, screen size, laptop is light weight and very fast. Great laptop for a great price!

I was researching laptops for a few weeks when I came across this one. I needed an optical drive and web cam ( for school) and was having a tough time finding one at any price point, until I found this. It was such a great price I ordered two. When they arrived my husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality. and the easy set up of the free Web Root anti-virus. After a week we ordered another for the in-laws and they couldn't be happier. We have all been using our laptops for over a month and none of us have had any trouble or any regrets. They are more than I hoped for at this low, low, price point. The only thing I miss is the back lit keyboard but no one else even noticed until I mentioned it. This is a great machine for a great price! PS I'm not a fan of Windows 8 but it's not the computers fault, everything it does, it does well and it's very quick and responsive. It's probably not good for gamers but if you are just using it for surfing, email, videos, and household use, then I highly recommend.

Learning all the "moves" with the touchpad is a challenge without a written manual,. Didn't realize the paucity of software applications in laptop and will have to acquire WORD or equivalent (as other computers always arrived with a Starter word processor and spreadsheet. Fast enough for my applications and seems to have some nice features. Windows 8 hard to get used to but it's a learning experience.

I bought this to replace a 7 year old Acer Aspire 3680 running XP/Xubuntu (dual boot). Windows 8.1 a BIG improvement over XP! The computer seems solidly built, but still light to carry. I appreciate the full-size keyboard. I'm not a big fan of touchpads in general, but this one is at least useable. Very quiet; I think it has a fan but I can't hear it. I love the larger display with the bright clear images! The DVD-RW is a nice extra not usually found on laptops in this price range. There is only an audio-out jack for headphones; no input jacks for microphone or line in. The built-in speakers are only OK; fine for speech but not up my audiophile standards for music. The N2830 CPU is very new and it still has a few bugs; it won't boot Ubuntu 14.04. But, Intel is working on a fix to the microcode, so this is only a temporary problem.

i got this laptop on sale. it is lightweight. good basic laptop for checking email and surfing the web. have not had an issue with it so far.

At $179.99 its an excellent buy went to buy another one the following day they sold out. 3 days later back up for $229.99 sold out in 24 hours. Went back about 4 days later it was on sale for black Friday for $249.99. Great computer but I wouldn't pay more than $179.99 for it.

The touchpad makes me crazy! First of all, it's not in the center (its slightly to the left of center), so I am forever accidently clicking the right side. Also, there is no clear definition of the area that is supposed to be clicked, ie the area that replaces the mouse clickers. And because of these two things, the base of my right thumb is constantly hitting the touchpad and sending me to who-knows-where. But for $229, I shouldn't complain!

I have had this for a year now, and it is still going strong! It's no powerhouse or gaming rig, but just right for normal online use. Great Value! I don't like Windows 8, but that will soon be replaced by Win 10 anyway.

After 8 months of use there have been absolutely no problems with this laptop. Runs smoothly and quickly and has never locked up. It is used for e-mail, web surfing, MS Office, and Netflix and handles all equally well. Battery life is also excellent.

I really like this computer and for the low price I really cannot complain. All low end laptops feel cheap anymore but this one was one of the better options. The only negative thing I can say so far is that I am not a fan of the way that the touchpad works and I opted for a wireless mouse and do not use the touchpad.

Had an issue with an update getting stuck in limbo and affecting the operating system. Took it to the Geek Squad and they wanted to charge me $129 to reload the operating system or I could take my chances leave it plugged in and see what happens. I chose the latter and it resolved the problem. The computer is less than 30 days after purchase and it was the 2nd time I had turned it on. If I purchase a computer with an OS I have purchased the OS. Either give me a disk, or the product code that if the OS does become corrupted I can reload it myself. The computer is great, the OS sucks and the GS was a disappointment

I have learned to like this computer. Big learning curve from MAC to Windows 8.1. Have a long way to go but , for news ,emails amazon ,and e-bay can not be beat. Slow but got out of store for $300 including 1 year warranty, and webroot. Learning to like it Microsoft .Microsoft censors most of drudge report. Must use Yahoo to stay on longer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
