Awesome Computer for the low price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer on tax free weekend in Massachusetts. at the time I was choosing between this and the Toshiba Satellite 15.6 C55-B5201 both are the same price and have virtually the same specs. I needed a laptop before school started so I went to Best Buy to compare them in person which i would highly recommend. The main difference between this and the Toshiba is the battery life is one hour longer on the Toshiba and the keyboards are different. Other than that they have virtually the same height and weight and all the same specs. I like the keyboard on the Asus better and the battery life at 4-5 hours was not a problem and was definitely an upgrade to the half hour I was getting on my Lenovo net-book. The start-up is super fast (less than 5 seconds in most cases) and the processor is fast enough to do light to moderate computing and gaming. I had a little problem with my wifi adapter however that may not be the computers fault but rather my routers. I would have liked to see one more usb port, bluetooth compatibility and a blueray player/burner would have been nice as well. I also like the power adapter as it is sort of like a macbook adapter rather than the bulky blocks that you usually see with PC's the build of the laptop is cheap (all plastic) but that is to be expected as it is an extremely low priced computer. This computer is extremely under-priced and you should take advantage of that as it is the lowest price around right now. I would recommend this to almost anyone as it runs basic and moderately heavy programs with no problem. Even Adobe Lightroom runs relatively smoothly. but overall this is the best computer for its price and for most non-touchscreen computers up to about the 500$ price range the screen resolution is better than average for a 15.6 and the speakers are not that bad although i barely use them. the track pad is multi-touch and works great except i prefer mice so I use one whenever i can. the only semi bad thing about the laptop is the keyboard which feels a little cheap but works fine and the webcam could be better but overall it is a great laptop and I highly recommend it.

Great Student Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To start, I recently bought an expensive Surface RT tablet and was completely unsatisfied with what I was told versus what I received. Therefore, I needed a laptop that was able to stand up to the wear and tear of a two-degree education in science and the everyday use of a computer user. Being budget conscious and a student, I needed something cheap, reliable, and fairly simple. This laptop has been the very best at what I wanted originally in a laptop. Although it has some minor exterior blemishes, it is the best laptop I've owned so far. I wasn't excited about Windows 8.1 being on it due to my horrible experience with the Surface RT and Windows Store. Once I got the laptop and realized that not all products are equal, I'm happy enough with the OS to keep it and learn it a little better. As for the track pad, it's definitely not what I had expected. It doesn't work well, and while mostly accurate, the buttons are hard to push in. Also, the USB ports are located extremely close to the resting place of my left wrist, and when I bought a wireless mouse to solve the track pad problem, I gave no thought to how sharp the edges of the USB connector was, and now it's painful to type with the USB connector in. Otherwise, for the price, the computer is amazing, and I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Very Nice for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because of it's low price. I needed a new laptop and since I paid a lot of money for my last one I didn't want to go big bucks on this one, so I bought this model. The girl who waited on me tried to talk me out of it but I stood fast and I am glad I did. It's perfect for what I need, it loads faster than any computer I've ever had, it runs videos nicely and Windows 8 is pretty slick. I wish I would have bought another one for my son.

Runs World of Warcraft on Fair-Good Settings
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is worth more than what you will pay. It says 2.16GHZ processor, and turboboost up to 2.41. Well, the turboboost kicks in automatically when needed. 4 gigs of ram and a good sized hard drive. If this were an HP, it would be sold for close to $400. Only downside is there are no removable panels to change out the hard drive or ram. But that's minor. I'm a gamer, but the only game I ever really play on PC is World of Warcraft. This laptop runs it just fine. Obviously it won't work on max settings, but they are all set to 'fair' settings with a few set to the next step up. This laptop is beyond great for the price. It's speed will surprise you. It's virtually silent, and I can boot up and be ready to go in no time.

Great for Price and Simple for Everyday Uses
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for my wife because she likes to store, arrange and order pictures of our daughter. So instead of using my desktop that is way to much for her, I got her this laptop so she can bring it where ever she goes. She takes pictures from her camera and easily transfers them to the Asus laptop. Yes, any laptop can do this but the price makes it worth it. I like the design of it and surfing the web without to many applications open is a breeze. I installed iTunes,Word 2010, Chrome, and other programs that make this a useful laptop. If you are looking for a simple family laptop this is it. If you want to take over the world with this laptop, this isn't for you. You will only get 444 Gigs out of the 500 Gig hard drive which is the norm for a less expensive computer. Most people don't like Windows 8.1, but I like it because I never use the "Metro" section. I use desktop only and I love it. Yes, there are Start buttons out there you can install. What I don't like: The battery life is acceptable. The Speakers are barely acceptable, I plug in our JamPlay to the output and it works like a charm. Can't expand the memory. I'd buy another one, all in all you can't beat the price.

Little Money, Well Spent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was one of the least expensive laptops in the store and a brand I was not familiar with. I have had no negative issues with this computer what so ever. It has no fancy appeal, all plastic, very lightweight but has everything most people need and that is dependability. I would recommend this laptop!

Great Starter PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PC is great for students or just people in need of a computer looking to get online! This is a STEAL for new buyers looking for a laptop that will last them for at least a year! The Display is very average, Max resolution is 1366 x 768 weird but will do! Display is bright and looking amazing with windows 8.1. Sound is great this is great for watching movies or just jamming out to music! This computer is not for gaming! Minecraft barely get 15 fps so don't look this way for portable gaming! Pros: Great Price, Fast start up, Light weight, Good Display(Not Great), & Sounds Great Cons: Battery life will make you sit there and want more, and the keyboard feels a little cheap. Overall The Pros out weight the cons & this is a great buy! Overall Rating 8/10 Needs more, but its a great starter laptop. Twitter: @Blyri Ask me any questions you may have!

Very good quality laptop for price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop came at a perfect time. I was just searching for a laptop on a budget and this popped up on sale. I trust Asus in general, I've never had a bad product from the company, so I sprung on the deal. The laptop itself is of fair quality. The plastic body gives me pause, as my last plastic-bodied laptop literally snapped at the hinges, rendering it unusable. This plastic feels more sturdy, but its still just plastic. The keyboard is responsive, the spaces between keys make for easy cleaning, and the numeric keypad is a nice touch. Sound works great, when you use the pre-installed AudioWizard to configure the sound to what you're doing at that moment (the lack of a notification icon for this program for easy calibration is annoying). The laptop does a fair job of staying cool, a surprising fact considering the quietness of the fan and the small fan grates. I suppose this can be attributed to its fan-grate placement and, if it actually has it, the newer, cooler-running Intel processor. I believe its the Baytrail. I'm using it in bed on top of the covers and its getting a bit warm, but running rather heavily on a flat, hard surface causes almost no change in temperature However, the case of this machine seems particularly suited to collecting fingerprints and the like. Wiping it down leaves streaks from the 409 (which I have used reliably on every laptop I have owned and did not adversely effect their case composition). The trackpad reads keyclicks oddly. Instead of having two contacts, one on the left and one on the right for reading the difference between left and right clicks, the trackpad senses which side of the pad your finger is on and decides which click you wanted that way. This means that, if you're like me and occasionally use your other hand to click, the trackpad will misread your clicks. However, the ASUS Smartgesture software is a nice addition. It won't replace a touch screen, but it works well for scrolling and light touch-oriented activities (mainly the Windows 8 Start menu). My biggest issue is likely the HDD. I was using it today, doing some fairly heavy gaming (Minecraft Tekkit Lite on lower settings). When I ended the session, I noticed the hard drive was making some relatively loud noises. This is to be expected from a HDD, the moving parts make noise, but this sounded like a computer that had been around for a few years trying to read off a severely fragmented HDD, not a 2 day old Windows 8 machine with a 7% fragmented HDD (OK level). I ran a defrag cycle (which took like 9 passes to complete, even though 7% fragmentation should have only required like 2 passes) and the HDD was still rather loud. I read the other review where the owners HDD crashed 4 days after purchase and then the replacement showed signs of HDD failure as well, and I got a bit nervous. I don't think the noises herald a failure, but they're certainly a bit loud for a new computer. This has been a very long, very detailed review of this ASUS 15.6" Intel Celeron notebook computer. Let it be noted that I have already recommended this laptop to a friend.

Great laptop for casual use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have only one issue with this laptop, and it is very minor. The screen finish is very glossy, which can be annoying in bright areas. A privacy screen will fix that though. Other than that, the laptop is perfect for what I want. I do game a bit, and the laptop will play WoW on low settings quite well. Since it's not my main source of gaming, that is fine by me. It's perfect for casual questing or farming. Windows 8.1 runs smoothly on this machine. You may hear a lot of negatives about W8, but it's most likely just the fact that it is so different from W7. When given a day or two, it becomes second nature. The track pad is a little clunky, but not unusable. I would recommend just tapping on the pad instead of trying to click the buttons. The battery life has been great for me so far. Make sure you give it the 3 hours it advises in the instructions before turning it on. I am a tech junkie, so that part was hard for me :) I have been getting 3-4 hours between charges with pretty heavy use.

Great computer, too many add ons
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most other computers I've bought just came with one antivirus program I had to delete. This one came with several programs that I had to unistall or they would pop up asking me to buy full versions of their software. Other than that, it's great. It starts up fast. It has a big display. It's really lightweight. Perfect for students or casual web surfers.

Price and value can't be beat
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the money this laptop can't be beat. I highly recommend this laptop to anyone wants to do a bit of everything but major gaming (I'm not a gamer so don't know how this would work.) I can't believe how quiet it is - I hear nothing at all when it's on. The lack of USB ports has been easily resolved by adding an inexpensive USB Hub with several additional connections when needed. The sound quality isn't great but adding an inexpensive speaker or headset made it perfect for me. I hope my luck continues since I've only had it two weeks, but so far I've used it 5-6 hours a day with no issues. As I write, there is no other laptop I'd want for my purposes and the price I wanted to spend. This is one heck of a good value.

Decent Performance for it's price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been in need for a good laptop for a long time and I finally decided to get a good look into what I should get. Originally this wasn't my first choice. I planned on getting a Toshiba Satellite until I read the reviews about a bad wifi card. I got this laptop on a whim not knowing anything about ASUS because of the price. PROS Overall I have been happy with this laptop's performance. I was able to run a Skype call (video) and FL Studio 10 at the same time and it did not struggle at all. The biggest thing I am impressed with is the overall quietness and how it doesn't get too hot. CONS The entire computer feels like it's made of cheap plastic but it's very sturdy. The speakers are half-rate (though I've never been impressed with laptop speakers). The biggest issue is the lack of USB's on here. There's only a 2.0 and a 3.0 and I like to keep my wireless mouse plugged in at all times.
