    ASUS still makes great computers!

This is a great machine. Windows 8.1 is a decent experience, however; ASUS is awesome enough to include windows 7 drivers on their website, so you can easily downgrade this system to windows 7 if you have the media and product key. That being said, we use this system as a presentation device, so when we purchased it, we opened the system, replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive ( it will take either a 7mm or 9.5mm hard drive. The DVD drive we replaced with a Blu-ray drive, and the original wifi card we replaced with a wifi/Bluetooth combo card and reinstalled the system with windows 7 pro 64bit. This system runs phenomenally, and can handle being bumped around since it now has a SSD instead of a HD. This system is responsive ( Bay-Trail-M ) architecture and quick enough to play Blu-ray presentations without even so much as a hiccup. Well done ASUS!

    Great Laptop for the Money

I've been shopping for a new laptop for a few months. I've seen several in the $350 range that were acceptable but w$\en I saw this for $250, it caught my eye. It is as powerful as the $350's plus has a disk drive. I've had it for about a week and it has performed fine, even given the fact I'm learning MS 8.1! Setup was very easy and I was using it in minutes. Some have criticized the speakers and touch pad but they're fine for this price machine (I use a mouse anyway).

    Works great so far

I bought this because my old laptop I bought 5 years ago died. At first, I wasn't impressed. It took as long as my old laptop to fire up. After the third or fourth time I started it, it booted up in very little time. I guess the first two or three times, it was downloading new information which slowed the boot. So far, I am happy with the computer. The keyboard does feel cheap, but it seems to work okay. The computer is a great value at $250.

    Great little machine

I needed a Windows 8.1 machine around the house for misc. tasks. More for my continuing education for IT support. (I'm forcing myself to use this without classic shell) Currently there are 2 Macs in the house and a Windows 7 Desktop, so it was time to add Windows 8.1 to the mix. It has everything that I'm looking for, Windows 8.1, USB 3.0, 15 inch screen, and in Intel Processor. I'm very happy with the performance of the machine for what it is. Browses the web like a champ, MS Office works great (added myself, it only comes with a trial), the windows apps and store load up quick, and I love the keyboard and trackpad. It also has a DVD burner which saves me a from needing to use an external for the half a dozen times I burn a disc per year. The wireless card works well, I was using it through several walls and out on my deck with no problems whatsoever. Currently the battery is clocking in between 4-5 hours depending on how much work I'm doing. Laptop works well with my Plex Media server (local) and streaming Neflix and Hulu. This is a low priced, entry level Windows laptop. It will get the job done for all of your basic (and many intermediate needs). I couldn't be happier with this laptop at the price point, it was exactly what I needed.

The only good thing about this laptop is the price

    Posted .

This laptop is the worst I have ever had. It still turning on and the price was cheap, but that is all good it has. The DVD player did not work from the very beginning, always was giving me an error like there is no DVD in it when there is obviously one inserted and all those DVDs are working with no problems on my other devices. In retrospect I had to go ahead and return this laptop immediately after I noticed that issue. On top of that the wireless connection always gives me troubles and stops working for no reason. So I have to disconnect and connect back for it start working again. And updating drivers did not help to resolve the issue. All of my other devices I have if turned on at the same time always have fully working wireless connection and never had the same issue. HDMI connection is also not steady like my other devices have and turning off by itself quite frequently. And another thing which is very annoying is that it switches from the desktop to the apps without me even remotely trying to get there! It could be bearable because of the price, but even for those money I would not recommend it and regret not returning it and getting something else instead.

This in an amazing PC for $229.99. The Intel processor runs fast for the money. Hands down the deal of the century for a sub $250 laptop.

I knew I wanted a reasonably priced computer that was a windows 8, and when I found this computer I knew it was the one I wanted. Also, this laptop has a DVD/CD player, so that was a bonus. Easy setup was a definite plus!

    Good product except for touchpad

This is a minor issue that might not bother everyone, but the touchpad keys to click or right-click are very hard to push. It's annoying enough to make me return the computer. Best buy doesn't charge a restocking fee so I'm happy with my purchase even though I am returning. The keyboard itself is really nice and there is a ten keypad and an optical drive which is a plus, since manufacturers don't seem to be including those anymore. I was really hoping this would be a winner especially for the price, but the touchpad is just so irritating. Also, there is no way to scroll up and down on the side.

Best Value yet! Good job Asus

If you need a budget laptop that will work better than tablet or chromebook, consider ASUS. Solid laptop for 229. Don't let the Celeron fool you, it's actually a pretty fast machine. Don't compare it to a macbook please, as its a fraction of the cost But if you need a home laptop this machine should be considered Netfilx runs smoothly as well. Great bargain!

With Ubuntu 14.04 LTS installed it's great

Installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Windows 8.1 never even booted up once. No problems with the setup, no issues with WiFi networks. FN + Everything worked, except screen brightness and WiFi antenna ON/OFF. Other than that and the non-upgradable RAM and the work involved in getting to the battery, I won't hesitate to recommend this laptop. I paid $212 out the door. Chrome, FireFox, Netflix, Skype, DropBox, ThunderBird, LibreOffice, etc. all work fine. I paid more for my Chromebook.
