pros fast, silient fast clock 2.4ghz has Ethernet and dvd drive cons hdmi & vga too close.I had to cut my vga cable end to fit both vga n hdmi. I now close the laptop monitor and extend to 2 external monitors. screen not the best 4/10 cheap material (but at this price no complaints)

I can hardly believe this laptop! A $249 purchase price that includes a bright screen, spacious and comfortable keyboard, CD/DVD player, and amazingly speedy performance. What is there not to like--except that there's no CAPS LOCK indicator? Previous enthusiastic reviews of this machine persuaded me to buy it. One week after purchase: NO REGRETS WHATEVER!

I bought one for my Mom. Put Classic Shell on it and that makes it seem more like a Win7 laptop. For the money, it is quite a decent laptop.

I purchased 2 of these laptops on 7/17/14. After 4 days of use, one began experiencing loud clicks from the hard drive (very audible). I returned it for exchange on 7/22/14. Now after less than 24 hours of use, I am again having the same sound from the hard drive. This is an indication of an eminent hard drive failure to come. While the price was great, I am finding that the hard drives in these units are likely of not so good quality, and therefor not so much a good value overall. If I return this one, I will be expecting an upgrade replacement for the same money I paid.

Good basic laptop that will do everything adequately.

Good for price, but again Spoiling factor is Windows 8 and it way too bulky. Otherwise has a good number of connecting ports. If you can live with these, then go for it. otherwise a strict no.

My friend purchased this laptop and I purchased it for $197.99 and I have yet to open mine but he said his was awesome. Hope to have the same result.

This laptop is good for internet and for kids or students - it does its job for this price. Also, the keyboard is very comfort.

I was just looking for something basic and for the price, this laptop is great. It has more than enough speed, power and memory for just the average user.

This laptop served well for a year, but recently the battery burned out and I can only use it when it's connected to the charger. Also the headphone jack does not work well. No matter what headphones I used I could only hear out of one ear. While it is pretty lightweight for it's size, it is still not ideal for bringing to class (or anywhere for that matter). I usually just keep it in my room. However I do enjoy the large screen for watching movies and multitasking.

Well it was about 2-5 minutes to set up which wasn't so bad. After a week or so from using it would slow down so would the internet. I read online to delete the browsing history and the DNS cache. I found out that all you have to do is refresh the computer and it will get rid of the unnecessary files that slow down the computer after that everything will be fine. Other than that it works perfectly fine, the bad thing is that the battery life is short its about an 3 hours and 30 minutes. It works fine with PC games. Also the sound isn't that good but you can go to the sound settings and boost it

The only way to determine if the caps lock is on other than when logging in, is to type a character and see what displays. The number of times I've entered the wrong password in the two days I've had it is ridiculous. Also, for those of you who are new to Windows 8.1, you can't use the DVD player to play a video, because Media Player has no playback in W8 and I've been unable to find a player in the Windows store that actually plays. All they do is open the folder and show you the chapters within the video. I then opened an Netflix account in order to watch a movie via the laptop on the TV, plugged in the HDMI cable and got an error message stating it couldn't play because of the resolution. Which by the way was displayed on the TV. Maybe I expected more from this computer than it is capable of performing, but dang, really?

the OS alone is $119 the laptop is $229 so it makes the parts $110 you cannot even make a cheapest complete desktop for that price $110 is Unbeatable!! even at 15.6" is really unheard of because the screen alone is like $80 and the design of the laptop is eq. to their gaming style laptop which is awesome

Very nice laptop for the money. A bit on the light weight side but definitely serves its purpose.

This was a good buy. It's slower than my HP. I have been waiting for 10 minutes for the restart, but overall a nice computer for the money. Good screen. It's a cheap plastic, but that what you get this price point. I paid $355.

For the price you're not going to find a better laptop this size that includes a DVD drive. The keys feel a little cheap and I'll admit it's not the best one I've ever owned by any stretch of the imagination and that the fact you can't even try to upgrade it is irksome but it fits my needs for everything I will use it for. Honestly, I have more problems with Widows 8 itself than with this computer. Really wish they had kept what worked with Windows 7 instead.

I bought this computer out of desperation, and it seemed to be a good price with good reviews. I am sorry to say that I returned it. You really do get what you pay for in this case! With nothing on the computer, it ran so incredibly slow with simple web browsing. I can't imagine what it would have been like had I had a lot of programs and files on it to bog it down! The computer itself felt chintzy; it was made of plastic, which made it weigh nothing, but it just felt cheap in my hands. The power cord was a joke! It was this little tiny cord that was ridiculously short. I couldn't find an outlet close enough to a place to sit that I could use the computer and sit comfortably at the same time while charging it. The battery life was too short, and from my experience, the battery life only gets worse the longer you own the computer. The weirdest part of all was that the computer had no speakers. The sound simply came out form the keyboard, allowing for difficult hearing and poor sound quality. If you are in a pinch and aren't expecting much, this computer might be great for you, but if you have high expectations, bite the bullet and buy a better, higher quality computer.

Let me start by saying I only use it for this for basic surfing, online purchases and emails. I'm also pretty computer savvy and I know my way around computers. I bought it, 20 days later, took back to exchange it for another because the screen froze, it wouldn't do anything, no matter what I did. I will say Best Buy was great about exchanging even though it was past the 15 day period. Well, the 2nd one wasn't really any better. The mouse took on a life of its own. It kept moving around the screen making a continuous clicking noise, at that point, I decided this was just not a good computer. When I took it back to Best Buy this time, they initially wanted to just give me a store credit and I told them that I was told (and I was by the manager# that if I had problems with this one #2nd computer# I could bring back for a FULL refund. Well....that is not the case. They will go back to the ORIGINAL date of the 1st computer, not the original date of the 2nd one #after talking with the manager, he finally agreed to give me a FULL refund#. I WILL NOT purchase another ASUS, I am sticking with HP. I ended up just replacing the hard drive in my 6 year old HP. I ended up coming out cheaper in the long run. Just a note, if this happens to you with ANYTHING you purchase, make sure they give you a FULL REFUND and just repurchase another item #even if it is the same item). That way you will get a full refund with no hassles in the event the 2nd one doesn't work either. REMEMBER - FULL REFUNDS - DO NOT EXHANGE!! I hope this helps.
